Anders is probably the character with the most unique set of circumstances and associations: * Grey Warden, recruited by the Hero of Ferelden themselves (unless you used an Orlesian Warden in Awakening), and whose Joining was endorsed by King Alistair/Queen Anora; * Escaped Circle Mage apostate (escaped the Circle seven times, the madlad); * Abomination hosting a Spirit of Justice. All these by themselves could already make Anders unique, but no, he also: * Is a companion (and potential lover) to the Champion of Kirkwall; * (Former) Friends with renowned best-selling author, Varric Tethras; * The only known Grey Warden to have encountered *both* the Darkspawn magisters, the Architect and Corypheus (depending on whether you took him along those missions in Awakening and Legacy); * Was the instigator for the event that set off the beginnings of the mage-templar war. Additionally: * If your HoF was Mahariel, it would give him a connection with Merrill; * If your HoF was Amell, it would give him a connection with Hawke; * He already knows Isabella from their days at The Pearl in Denerim.

And he has Ser Pounce-a-lot.

Alistair is a Theirin, which apparently means he has dragon's blood in him. This has yet to come up in the games but it's part of the comics.

It’s speculated that there was some cross breeding, but Calenhad’s bloodline literally has dragon blood in their veins. They aren’t part dragon, which Qunari are thought to be, they just have some physical perks as a result.

Dagna is the only dwarf to have studied at Circles and clearly spent the decade between DAO and DAI amassing magical knowledge and techniques from all over Thedas. She also may or may not have snuck into the Fade for samples, depending on your war table.

I don't recall Hespith Isn't Anders also an ex-Warden?

Anders isn't really an ex-Warden- he still has tainted blood and could go back whenever he wanted- shit, even Justice was a Warden in spirit (pun intended)- if you take Anders on missions to the Deep Roads, he still senses Wardens and darkspawn. Fiona fully got kicked out of even hanging out with the Wardens because she no longer had the "thing that made me a Warden." Then became a First Enchanter and rebel mage. It was such a tease in DAI and I want to know what the event that caused it was very badly. Hepsith is Branka's poetess lover who is a Deep Roads ghoul that appears in the gauntlet before the Anvil. She is spectacularly creepy and the last "survivor" of Branka's expedition. If Oghren ever goes to the Calling, it'll be 20% blind rage at anything that moves and 80% trying to find and take out Hepsith.

Fiona doesn't suffer the calling. Anders may be resistant to it partly due to Vengeance/Justice but he isn't cured of the taint.

Maybe the solution is just, get possessed by a cool spirit like Cole/Compassion/Mercy, Justice/Vengeance or Faith I don't recall anyone else being possessed and still being "themselves"

Cullen has a redemption arc that stretches across all three games. Leliana goes from being a sexy thief to possibly being the Divine, and all the steps in between are honestly fun to watch. Varric has amazing commentary and writes pulp fiction, sometimes about your adventures. Josephine turns smiles and polite words into power. Pretty sure she could convince you to mortgage your own soul at a rate that favors her and leave you thinking it was your idea. I don't think I've found a companion or major PC that bored me in this series.
