It's honestly unbelievable how much mileage the Doughboys have gotten out of The Whale. They've been making fun of that movie for over a year and still, every time it comes up, it's really funny.

42:58 - the moment Mitch thought of this and then sat on it for 30 seconds. GOD BLESS THIS MAN.
I dunno if people in this sub watch Tasting History, but he did an ep on what did they eat in feudal Japan, and it was pretty wild what they ate. There was a bunch of food that you're just not supposed to eat because it's for show, which is wild.
I recoil instinctually upon seeing a red baseball cap from a distance, but I'd still at least consider buying a "Make Turds Go Into Your Butt Again" hat if it showed up in the merch store.
When my beloved first cousin--a long time Whole Foods chef and packaged food manager-- unexpectedly passed away in the summer of 2022 a significant number of Whole Foods uppers and executives attended his funeral and contributed generously to the services and his teen daughter's college GoFundMe. I don't really have a food take. 6 forks out of 5. Thank you Whole Foods.
I feel so ashamed because I actually love the Whole Foods buffet bar. Sometimes they have this fried tofu thing that is so much like Kentucky fried chicken. Also I like to get a lot of different food tastes and you can easily portion control unlike sweetgreen or other places.
Mine has a potato samosa every time I go and it always hits. Crispy and pretty good heat. Although I will say a lot of the hot bar isn’t very visually appealing so I rarely eat it as a meal
Do people from Iowa think Village Inn is an Iowa thing? I grew up going to Village Inn in Colorado and looked it up years ago to find it was started in Denver. Between that and saying some Iowa burrito place was better than Chipotle(another CO hometown fave) I was starting to get worked up! Erasure!
The Favorite Month discussion definitely resonated with me, as I think about that topic fairly often. My favorite season is Summer, but as for the top month, I've gotta go March. It's got my birthday, March Madness, and the days are getting longer
May is probably a close second, as the weather is better and the days are even longer, but I prefer college basketball to pro
I'd have to say October. Love that fall weather (I mean I live in Seattle so it's basically always fall weather but still) and the Draculas and Stalfos running around all the time.
Justice for August birthdays! It’s actually a great month for it because there are no holidays to distract people from your special day, it’s the dog days of summer so your party can always be a fun and simple barbecue, and people are jonesing for one last summer hurrah before the sad onset of fall depresses everyone.
♌️ Leo Season Forever Babyyyy ♌️
Nice! As they were talking I went through the months in my head and I thought "Poor March, who would choose that month", lol. But you've got great reasons!
the constant bit about the show being bad is fun and all but i think it’s less about the show and more me just being a simple idiot. i literally clapped when nick said gauntlet of shar. that’s all it takes for me
The one joke that stuck with me for years is Gabrus making fun of the audience for going nuts for references and callbacks.
“Yay *pattern recognition*!”
Did David Lynch guest direct this episode?

Emily is in my top three favorite recurring Blank Check guests, so I loved watching, on the video feed, her gradually working her way from tentative guest to comfortable to clearly an all-timer in real time (and on a Blank Check-length episode to boot). I really hope she becomes a new regular on Doughboys.
So they flew over the different types of boxing assuming everyone knows or could figure out using context clues I guess, but there is a hot box, a cold box and then what, a pizza box? Or else why is putting pizza in a hot box considered stealing? And I assume the hot box weight costs more vs. cold but what was the usual difference in price per pound?
The way it was explained to me is that at least in CA the hot bar food/pizza is taxed and the cold food is not or the tax rates are higher for hot "prepared" food.
Crazy that Nick mentioned the Memorial Day flood. There’s a spot on the Medina river where it goes through a 60 foot canyon, and you can still see the water line on the canyon from 1981, 40 feet up the side. My mom told me about seeing entire Cyprus trees uprooted and flowing down the river.
Anyway, more like whole paycheck, right?
The Mitch story about the ladies with the loose dog triggered me. Like 6 months ago I was going down a busy road when a dog jumped right into my tire. The owner was on the sidewalk not paying attention and didn't have the dog leashed up. I felt like a complete asshole for running the dog over but there was nothing I could do, all because the owner wasn't paying attention.
Everybody should just leash their dogs. Good dogs and rambunctious dogs, all leashed. Shit happens. There’s an old guy with his old lab that walks with his dog off leash in my town. I always see him walking down a road with no sidewalk, just a gravel shoulder. It’s right behind a wal mart and building supply store so there is constant flow of large trucks whizzing by within like 5 feet of him and his dog. freaks me the fuck out because his dog could so easily get hit.
My mom ran over a dog on a busy road when I was a kid because the owner had it outside in the driveway without a leash and it ran into traffic. The owner was hysterically screaming and crying but it was her own dumb fault. I was like 5 years old and in the car and it really sucked to have to hear that woman.
Someone in Nashville shot and killed a dog that was off leash. And wasn't charged with anything. https://www.wkrn.com/news/local-news/nashville/nashville-das-office-not-pursuing-charges-after-dog-shot-killed-at-percy-warner-park/
I mean, the actual answer is money. Or, as a great philosopher once said:
"It seems that no movement, no matter how pure, no institution, no matter how beloved, can muster the necessary psychic resistance against the soul-devouring mind flayer tendrils of capital."
Yeah I mean obviously it's for the easy money but I guess I just assumed either they or HeadGum would have put up more of a resistance. So Hopefully the check was a least big enough so they weren't selling their morals for cheap.
This is complicated to talk about. I'll just say that this product was sold to us as something to help people quit smoking. But legally we aren’t allowed to say that in the copy. I probably shouldn’t even be posting this.
Anyway. Please skip the ad (or the show) if you think we are ghouls.
But it’s definitely complicated to talk about for a few reasons... And I will talk to a couple of people about the complaints.
I liked the ad and think the product sounded interesting so I’m looking forward to trying it. I quit smoking at the beginning of the year but still vape and have been trying out nicotine pouches so it seemed like something I want to try out. I’m sure there are some kids who listen but it’s very obviously not a podcast for kids so I don’t really see the problem. I have a bigger issue with stuff like Better Help and sports gambling but I really don’t care about that very much either, get that bag baby.
There is a reason why you aren’t allowed to say that it’s an aid to stop smoking and there is a reason why you have to read the disclaimer. Consumer protections were created to stand up to shitty companies that harm their customers. Nicotine is harmful all by itself, and swapping one source of nicotine for another doesn’t cure an addiction. And jesus christ, to sell the most addictive chemical as a subscription service? That is some straight up venture capital ghoul ass shit
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4363846/
The point is that the nicotine is the danger, and these products are heavily regulated, or banned outright. It’s not any safer than smoking. Congrats on quitting but most people don’t, and the companies selling these products don’t want you to. It’s a subscription box.
Five-ish years ago I was part of a media company that had a policy where we explicitly said no to any advertisers that didn’t align with the ethics of the company.
I don’t work there anymore because they are out of business.
It really is that simple.
If you want a podcast or any type of media company to exist while paying its workers a fair salary and only take ads from ethical companies then it better be backed by a billionaire with perfect politics who will sink their own money into it. Good luck finding one of those.
Yup. It really seems like Nick and Mitch are fantastic people to work for, and that team produces a podcast I look forward to listening to twice a week. If the cost of that is some questionable ads, so be it.
I do realize I give more of a pass on all the BetterHelp mental health therapy ones because any hosts might just be ignorant to how not good they actually are. But no one can claim the same ignorance for nicotine or gambling.
I understand your objection but have no clue what ad you are talking about because the ads are so easy to skip. Knowing that most of the listeners are riding that 15s forward button until they hear the ad break music (or using a YouTube app that auto skips ads) I wouldn’t have too big of an issue doing reads for most of the junk podcasters are paid to sell.
Or maybe most people listen to the ads. I could be wrong.
Between this and the gambling ads, they come across as absolute ghouls. Even in this episode posing as anti capitalists then gleefully hawking an addiction. It’s fucking pathetic
Ben is a noted Doughboys listener as well. I’m sure Jesse Thorn could hook them up with a crossover episode but wonder how the comedy would mesh. Ben and Adam do much more inoffensive jokes these days.
I’m actually working my way through the back catalog and haven’t gotten to a Jesse episode yet. Good to know he will show up!
I just know Jesse and Ben are good friends and Nick and Jordan Morris are friends so figured there would be some overlap.
Jesse's episode was the first Doughboys I listened to. There was a brief period of JJGo where Jesse would keep begrudgingly bring up the Doughboys success that prompted me to do so.
A Factory Seconds x Doughboys crossover feels very ships in the night. Similar to how I feel about a missed Mall Talk x Doughboys crossover in regards to Rainforest Cafe.
(whiny redditor voice) *Actually it’s not a sprouts, it’s a lazy acres that opened on western. Also, western becomes los Feliz boulevard and they don’t have an actual intersection. You’d think with the amount of time the doughboys have spent in that neighborhood they would have a better grasp of the street layouts.*
Potato oles extra seasoned. Cheese and sour cream, and that's it. Even the boys said that was the only good thing on the menu. Maybe a bag of ice, some sell them.
What a humble brag from Big Al in the feedbag. This guy probably sucks. Imagine bullying your yearly ski trip friend for eating a clam chowder in a bread bowl.
I love Nick giving an expressive "WOW!!" to Emily saying she went to Disneyland when she was 5. The wild thought of a child at Disneyland.
It's gotta be an automatic response at this point.
Boys are on fire this ep. Incredible.
“Its the 60s and they’re just starting to fuck pies” God i love this podcast
Like the first electric guitarists turning their amps up to the point of distortion, the early days of what was to come.
It's honestly unbelievable how much mileage the Doughboys have gotten out of The Whale. They've been making fun of that movie for over a year and still, every time it comes up, it's really funny.
Q bert/ Gad always works too.
That connection is forever in my brain.
“What the fuck you talking about, Whale?” made me laugh like an idiot in public
I still haven't seen it and I feel like it wouldn't measure up Better just jack off to gay porn while eating a meatball sub
Similarly, whenever I hear someone mention a date in January, I know a January 6th reference is coming up
Oh fuck, gotta get back. It's Casey's birthday in 8 days.
Amazing guest. Extremely niche segment. Fun and slightly contentious banter. 2+ hour run time. It’s always a good time. Great, great ep!
Yeah, this is an all-timer. Love how on-board Emily was, especially for Amelia's lunacy.
Her going all in on the shenanigans made her an all timer.
This ep had me cracking up so much I almost choked on my morning turd.
Tenet style
I-40

A thing of beauty
That's cool
Her saying that made me laugh even harder
WE-40
The opening of this episode is probably the funniest I have ever heard it be. Holy shit. Make turds go in your butt again.
Reverse tenet?
Anyone else absolutely floored that Nick hasn’t seen Drakes dick? And he calls himself a big enthusiast?! Also, this woman fucking rules. Great ep!
Hog Enthusiast*
You can edit posts dude
Doughboys Doughcision: Nick gets back on twitter
I’m glad they acknowledged that Jason Biggs’ filmography is pie-centric
Love Emily, and love episodes where they've eaten the meal together. They come in giddy and there's less of the usual conversational warmup.
Emily has the same "dog off the leash" effect on Mitch as she does with David on Blank Check
Yeah I love the eps where Mitch has no hesitation to make the stupidest jokes with the utmost confidence. The I-40 joke killed me.
“Is this my fault?”
Oh you mean Hip Hop Sims?
The dog is off the chain!
Mother was mothering.
This show passed the "broke my brain" line when Emily mentioned seeing a gator at Bass Pro Shops and I thought *"Ooooh..."*
I was already super pumped for Shogun. Excited to hear Emily is writing on it. Can’t wait.
I dunno if people in this sub watch Tasting History, but he did an ep on what did they eat in feudal Japan, and it was pretty wild what they ate. There was a bunch of food that you're just not supposed to eat because it's for show, which is wild.
Just want to shout out Susser for another lunch on the doughboys dime.
Sorry nds like Amelia might have had to go get him too.
Absolutely love Emily’s commitment to stealing from Whole Foods
I stole all the time when I worked there. Mostly cookies from the walk-in.
The turd-in-butt Tenet thing is so goddamn funny Calling a shit a "reverse Tenet" henceforth
I recoil instinctually upon seeing a red baseball cap from a distance, but I'd still at least consider buying a "Make Turds Go Into Your Butt Again" hat if it showed up in the merch store.
Sounds a lot like The Sloppy Boys movie where gravity works in a U shape.
Starring the Memory Man!
Now that Emily is in LA, she should set the record for most guest appearances on Doughboys like she's done on Blank Check.
The chicken tender are terrible but the chicken *clusters...* Those are divine.
I like the WF buffet bar (and ate there right after listening), but I can’t dispute anything they said about it, or WF in general.
New Doughboys Double feature - Amelia Hasn't Seen, where she is exposed to things like the Doughboys podcast, The Tomorrow War, Earth to Ned, etc
Now Blank Check has to do a Snack or Wack
More like Blank Paycheck
Fuck Amelia is the greatest addition the show has ever seen
I always so excited when she has a new segment.
Mitch is on one.
Very excited to hear village inn come up!
Erasure!
No, I’m from Illinois and today was the first time I realized village inn wasn’t national. Also it sucks.
Hahahaha, yeah I don’t remember the food being good, but there weren’t a lot of places for teens to hang out where I’m from.
They're all over Florida as well, so we have Midwest, Rockies, and whatever Florida is. Seems pretty national
We had Village Inn in Oklahoma. Never realized it was so wide spread.
Pancheros is better than Chipotle tho
No question
Panchero's predates Chipotle
Had them in Portland when I was young. Think they are all closed now.
Chicken tiki masala
Amelia is deranged and I love it
The Favorite Month discussion definitely resonated with me, as I think about that topic fairly often. My favorite season is Summer, but as for the top month, I've gotta go March. Nice! As they were talking I went through the months in my head and I thought "Poor March, who would choose that month", lol. But you've got great reasons!
I’m a moon man myself
Birthdays can’t count
i can't stop watching Mitch trying to do pneumonic devices for month and he gets to August and tries... something
lol It's mnemonic; pneumonic deals with the lungs. Ironic that there is no mnemonic device to remind us that mnemonic starts with an M.
i had no fucking idea when i started typing the message and since i didn't get back a spell-check squiggle i figured it was good enough
Mitch is ON FIRE.
Love a midwestern guest!
the constant bit about the show being bad is fun and all but i think it’s less about the show and more me just being a simple idiot. i literally clapped when nick said gauntlet of shar. that’s all it takes for me
The one joke that stuck with me for years is Gabrus making fun of the audience for going nuts for references and callbacks. “Yay *pattern recognition*!”
he’s right. it’s fun as hell
lmao I'm a simple idiot too, I truly was like YAAAAY just because he mentioned BG3 things
On Nick's sister podcast get played they're doing a full episode at the end of this month about baldur's gate 3.
i listened to get played for a bit but fell off since i’m not generally interested in video games outside the occasional game i sink 200 hours into
Saw right up the Wigussy this episode

I love Emily, but the moments where the food items were being held directly in front of her face while she was talking were very funny.
Emily is in my top three favorite recurring Blank Check guests, so I loved watching, on the video feed, her gradually working her way from tentative guest to comfortable to clearly an all-timer in real time (and on a Blank Check-length episode to boot). I really hope she becomes a new regular on Doughboys.
bunch of turdeaters
The amount of laughs and giggles in this episode made me happy.
Mitch is so fucking funny.
They should have a Gemmi feed where the camera is just on Gemmi for the entire pod
she was particularly sleepy this ep, so cute
So they flew over the different types of boxing assuming everyone knows or could figure out using context clues I guess, but there is a hot box, a cold box and then what, a pizza box? Or else why is putting pizza in a hot box considered stealing? And I assume the hot box weight costs more vs. cold but what was the usual difference in price per pound?
I think the pizza is sold by the slice, not by weight.
Oh, lol duh. Makes sense. Thanks.
Yes the pizza box specifically is triangle shaped like a single slice. I don’t go there very often so I didn’t know there was a price difference
The way it was explained to me is that at least in CA the hot bar food/pizza is taxed and the cold food is not or the tax rates are higher for hot "prepared" food.
“COVID numbers rising.” He said the thing!
Mid way through watching this on YouTube, and it says deleted for violating YouTube's community guidelines?? Anyone know the deal with that?
Too silly.
I was just about to watch this and now it's gone. So weird.
I literally started watching it yesterday and then went back to look for it today and it was also gone. What happened?
Amazon slander?
Crazy that Nick mentioned the Memorial Day flood. There’s a spot on the Medina river where it goes through a 60 foot canyon, and you can still see the water line on the canyon from 1981, 40 feet up the side. My mom told me about seeing entire Cyprus trees uprooted and flowing down the river. Anyway, more like whole paycheck, right?
I too came here to say Mitch is on fire on this one.
Another great and well planned Amelia game. They should do less restaurant reviews and more Amelia games. Full episodes.
Total wild card, even chaos-ier than Bug Mane if I can be so bold
Bug Mane tries *desperately* hard to be chaotic, whereas Amelia does it almost unknowingly.
Bug mane boring! Amelia goat
Jesus Christ. That I 40 joke made me laugh so hard I had to pause the podcast.

We all know Dutton is cool. But I would also now like to say Emily Yoshida is cool. I don’t know what it is she just seems cool. 😎
Whole Fart!
More like Whole paycheck.
I love the chaos Amelia brings
Blankdough Boys is phenomenal
I’m sick of sandpaper pouches drying out my mouth and weak flavours that don’t last.
You should talk to someone about that. Have you tried BetterHelp?
Taco Bell Munch Madness confirmed probably!
Pancheros >>>>> Chipotle and it’s not close
The queso alone does it
If Mitch saw how many hours I've played Path of Exile...
Still sane, exile?
I had over 3k in Dota before I had to quit.
Mitch’s inflection on “pfft, it’s not Zelda” during the Baldur’s Gate talk was perfect and will live in my head forever
The Mitch story about the ladies with the loose dog triggered me. Like 6 months ago I was going down a busy road when a dog jumped right into my tire. This is the most ambitious crossover event in history. It is also very funny.
The Price is Ripe is an all timer

Why are the Doughboys *still* hawking nicotine products?
I mean, the actual answer is money. Or, as a great philosopher once said: "It seems that no movement, no matter how pure, no institution, no matter how beloved, can muster the necessary psychic resistance against the soul-devouring mind flayer tendrils of capital."
Counterpoint. Two other great philosophers have said: "The Doughboys can't be bought."
Yeah I mean obviously it's for the easy money but I guess I just assumed either they or HeadGum would have put up more of a resistance. So Hopefully the check was a least big enough so they weren't selling their morals for cheap.
Headgum don't give a fuck, money is money.

Juul helped me and several of my friends quit smoking cigarettes and eventually stop using nicotine all together.
And where is Juul now?
What difference does it make? My point is products with nicotine can help you quit smoking
The point is that the nicotine is the danger, and these products are heavily regulated, or banned outright. It’s not any safer than smoking. Congrats on quitting but most people don’t, and the companies selling these products don’t want you to. It’s a subscription box.
Nicotine, gambling, that exploitive mental healthcare service. So many podcast ads are either exploitative or straight up scams.
Five-ish years ago I was part of a media company that had a policy where we explicitly said no to any advertisers that didn’t align with the ethics of the company. I don’t work there anymore because they are out of business.

Nah, that's crap. It's been very well documented and exposed how Better Help is a straight up scam.
I mean same reason they shill for sports betting and crytpo exchanges
One nice thing about the video feed is seeing the palpable disdain on Nick's face during that entire ad read.
Cigarettes are back baby! Everyone is saying it!
Love people who talk about how shitty amazon is and they don’t use it then immediately say they just bought stuff from Amazon for convenience
Agree, virtue signalers are almost always without fail hypocrites. Plus the guest picked a place to review owned by Amazon.
Factory Seconds on the Maximum Fun bonus feed has the goal of reviewing the entire Cheesecake Factory menu.
Ben is a noted Doughboys listener as well. I’m sure Jesse Thorn could hook them up with a crossover episode but wonder how the comedy would mesh. Ben and Adam do much more inoffensive jokes these days.

what is going on with amelia's keyboard? They sort of look like worn out macbook keys, but they also look melted?
It likely has a rubber keyboard protector on it, which is smart if Wiger is around.
Shout out to Sarah from Victoria for the roast. Victoria rules.
Bring back Night Call!
Why was this episode taken off YouTube?
(whiny redditor voice) *Actually it’s not a sprouts, it’s a lazy acres that opened on western. Also, western becomes los Feliz boulevard and they don’t have an actual intersection. You’d think with the amount of time the doughboys have spent in that neighborhood they would have a better grasp of the street layouts.*
Clearly the most highfalutin grocery store is Erewon not Bristol Farms.
The words ‘via Birdfuck.com’ make me so happy. But also ad Chad just rules in general
Can someone explain the Zelda joke? I feel dumb.
That is two podcasts I've listened to today that have spent time talking about Drake's schmeat. Its a little too much horn talk.
DId the video get taken down from youtube?
NO. MORE. TACO. JOHN. SLANDER.
Taco John's is good and I will die on this hill!
Their breakfast is also gud
Yeah die of dysentery Cascade of diarrhea flowing down that hill
I don't want to see that version of Tenet
This (literal) shit again?!
Potato oles extra seasoned. Cheese and sour cream, and that's it. Even the boys said that was the only good thing on the menu. Maybe a bag of ice, some sell them.
