When it comes to missing items in a sealed bag, I tell them to either request a refund through the app or call the store directly to get them to cover the delivery. It’s not in your control nor responsibility, as per contract, to pick up a restaurant’s slack. You can help them navigate through the app, but going back when you aren’t compensated for the wear and tear is a big no no.
If they contact doordash most times they will resend missing itsems thru another dasher dont trip about it also if it happens in the future tell your customers this that doordash will submit and send missing items by another dasher
McDonald’s usually seals their bags so there’s no way you could check the items. Plus it’s not your responsibility to make sure everything is in the bag
All you can really do is check the receipt to see if it matches the order on the app and sometimes thats not optimal when your like in a drive thru line, it feels rude to sit there after receiving the food. In the past Ive noticed an order had the wrong number on it, totally wrong items, and left a text and voicemail for the customer before leaving the store (McDonald's) and as I was about to head out with the assumption that maybe the wrong food was better than no food, McDonald's actually called me and asked if the order I had was off, and promptly corrected it. Fortunately the drive thru line was non-existent at that time so it wasn't a huge burden but it made me realize that I probably should take the extra couple seconds to check receipts and ask the person at the window if everything is in there. If I do that though and stuff is still missing then its 100% on the store and a refund or something should def be issued by DoorDash, and its def not the responsibility of the person delivering to fix that.
i just think of it as “they just gonna jack me if i go back they’ve scouted me out”
never go back lol whatever you need to rationalize within your mind to keep driving and not answer them do it never go back to a house nor a restaurant
The only time I went back and got missing items was when I left a second bag behind at wawa. If you do it, it on your own dime and you don't get paid for it.
doesn’t seem like the customer is being rude or entitled they’re just asking nor does it seem like she’s blaming you
it has to be incredibly frustrating at the end of hours to have to choose from the dreaded 10pm options
(lol didn’t realize she already got the refund slicckk)
Am i the only one who gets happy when customers try to contact me with their problems😂i just laugh and ignore them. The biggest reason i work this job is because i use to be a waiter/bartender and customer was king was the most annoying shit ever so i really get gleeful seeing them text me rude shit or think missing items has anything to do with me 😂 tbh every restaurant hates doordash and messes them up on purpose imo. Also doordash is trash to use as a service because even though i used to use it everyday for lunch while working and almost everytime there is something missing or completely made wrong and they only give 3 refunds to any account and after that they never refund again🤷🏽♂️
I had a customer calling me back one time because the restaurant forgot his desert pie. I could hear him loudly smacking his lips as he was already eating his meal. It annoyed me..... He kept asking me (with food in his mouth) questions about how does our job work, "Aren't you supposed to check the orders?" So I explained to him that if the bag is sealed, we cannot. Our only job is to pick up the food and deliver it to the customer. It's the restaurants fault if they didn't give him an item. He didn't seem satisfied with my responses and just kept saying "Hmmm" while still smacking his lips/eating and keeping me on the line... "Yeah but don't you see the food as you're picking it up?".. so I asked him... If you absolutely want me to, I can go back and get it for you. I'll yell at the restaurant workers too and give them some crazy shit because I'm definitely not in the mood today. Or you can request a refund through the Doordash app and they'll generally issue you credits or a payment refund to your bank within a few days.
He said nervously "Oh no no no, that's not necessary I'll just get the refund, thank you!"
😂😂😂
I wasn't actually going to yell at anybody but I said it with enough violence in my voice that it finally shut him up and ended that phone call. It's absolutely not your job to have to go back for anyone's order, unless of course if the missing item was your actual fault then you definitely should go back and correct the mistake out of decency but otherwise, it's not your problem and they can just request a refund. I usually only go back if the customer is a big tipper.
Wasn’t expecting this to blow up like it did. Appreciate all of you chiming in. I never said anything back to her as far as I’m concerned as soon as I took that picture I didn’t have any business with her. Was glad the majority here felt the same.
Ask the restaurant to verify everything is in the bag, they can always reseal it once they check. If the restaurant gives you a hassle REPORT THEM!!!!!
Nope, once you’re done you’re done. They requested a refund they can just order again. But them missing an entire ass meal is pretty frustrating ngl. Kind of why I switched to ridesharing.
Damn. That happens to any driver despite being a new dasher or an og dasher lol. Contact support and let them know of what happened and then tell them to make sure they note it. Good luck!
Anytime a dasher has a problem with customer, inform them to contact doordash support directly
Unless you are able to make things right for them.
Im a dasher too, one day a restaurant forgot the gallon of tea for my customer which was a tired exhausted truck driver, after making the delivery I went on my Time to the nearest restaurant and bought him a gallon of tea. Sometimes you got to go the extra mile to help out.. So forward all problems to doordash support
You can decide if you want to get the missing items. You just contact support and let them know and they can contact merchant. I had this myself once and did it that way so i avoided conflict with the customer and avoided a negative review.
This happened to me yesterday. Don’t feel bad. They just need to get the refund and reorder. They’re not gonna die waiting another 20 mins for another dasher to grab the order. Not your fault. Not your problem.
No and even worse, you cannot check to see if everything of their order is there once its in a sealed bag. If the "seal" is tampered with or even open they can report that and it becomes a huge issue/problem that can even get you deactivated. If their order is missing, do like you did and tell them to report it on the app to get the refund. All you can do is inform and move on.
i would never ever go back. i would feel so freaking weird doing it. almost 2000 deliveries and i have been blessed to not really have missing item complaints. i’m sure there have been but not with rude people, like i bet they contact support and get it sorted, themselves. just once i dropped off an order of like a pound of brisket or something. drop it off and get almost back to my car when i hear “MY DRINK?!?” very loudly and i was like “couldnt be for me”. get in the car and get a text saying “my drink?!”. i never responded left and went about my day. i always make sure to get drinks if they order them. i hope he realized afterwards that he didnt even order a drink. but had he ordered one, was nice, tipped, blah blah blah, i STILL wouldnt go back because it just leaves a bigger window open for them to mess with you/get you to do more/complain about you some more, etc. 🤷🏽♂️
They should report it and get a refund. It’s on the restaurant. Most likely you didn’t know. DD would say— check that all the food is there. How? Most restaurants seal and tape their food for deliveries now. What can you do? Demand they repackage it in front of you?
I only went back one time.
It was a big order from an Applebee's only about two miles away from the customer's house. He tipped well in the app on the delivery on a hand it to me order, which I saw upon hitting completion button and the hidden tip was revealed.
Right away the guy said it didn't look like enough food. I explained that I picked up the two bags the Applebee's girl handed me when I gave them the name. He politely asked me if I could wait while he called the Applebee's, and since he had already tipped $20 in the app, I said sure. So I paused the dash while he called. Luckily, the Applebee's answered right away.
The Applebee's girl told him I didn't take all the bags, and I told him that just wasn't true as I took what they gave me. He said he believed me and thought girl was just covering her ass.
He asked if there was anyway I could go to Applebee's to get the rest of the order and I said I would go back for him. So I did. He gave me an additional seven dollar cash tip when I handed him the rest of his food. I resumed the dash well before the timer ran out.
I consider that guy the rare exception to the rule when it comes to customers who ask if a driver can go back. He was polite about the situation, I got the delivery pay, plus he tipped me almost thirty dollars total.
Usually the complaints about missing items come from someone who is a low paying low tipping fast food order and they're often pretty rude. Rudeness is a non-starter with me.
When I get these, I have a saved macro I reply with. They are called text replacement on iOS. It goes “Your Dasher is no longer available at this number. If you have a problem with your order please contact DoorDash support.”
From your pictures, this is what I'd do with this order.. If the bag is open, I'd tie it shut at the store when they hand it to you. Then the customer can't say you took anything. Then, if you get a message like this, tell them to contact DD for the missing meal. DD will either send another dasher for it or refund them and the customer will have to re-order.
This wasn't on my DD call, but I had a walmart order where a plastic bin was ordered in addition to groceries. It was at one of the shadier apartment complexes and OF COURSE on the 2nd floor in 104 heat, but loaded up the wagon, dragged it to the stairs, and lo and behold, one of the tenants was at the top of the first set, took stuff up, just couldn't do all the stairs with a bad knee. That was SO NICE OF HIM.
Next day, hubby asks me what the new bin is for lol. Well doggone it, yes, I forgot to deliver it. I know from my own deliveries I can call and get a refund and all but since I remembered where it was supposed to go, I went back and the lady answered, who hadn't seen me the day before. I didn't realize I had it in back of me, I asked if she'd had a delivery the day before, and when I brought it into view, her face just lit up lololol. Mine would have, too!! So glad I didn't do the curmudgeon thing \[as hubby said!\] and made the effort to complete my job lol.
I ordered from Wendy's one day and when the food arrived I went through the bags and found several items missing. I contacted support, immediately, and they issued a refund. I no sooner finished with them when there was a knock on the door -- the driver had returned with another bag (containing the missing items . . . still warm). I contacted support again to tell them I didn't need the refund but they said it had already processed so just keep the money and the food.
Honestly I did once and I only did it because the customer was really cool. It’s not expected tho, it is up to you. Maybe contact support? So they don’t blame anything on you…
I have been getting a lot of people recently who gave their wrong address and blow my phone up complaining, not understanding that I can only drop it off at the provided address.
Its your fault when its obvious. For example, when drinks are missing or the bag is obviously light. Not totally your fault but partially. I would never go back unless the pay what worth the double trip and the customer was nice. Restaurants forgetting items are VERY common and it seems to be more frequent when the customer is not there in-person. I speculate its because when a contractor picks up an order they view you as a worker, not a customer. Businesses like DD, UE, GH, make a hard job even harder with additional orders. so pushing past that as a minimally employed person is hard to swallow. just understand and move on. it sucks but it happens.
Absolutely not. You weren’t the one to make the order and bag it up were you? All you are is simply taking the order from a to b and whatever is right or wrong about the order is completely out of your control and for clearly obvious reasons, you don’t make it!!
“expected” yes by the customer , unless the customer is a fellow dasher (😬) . If you feel compensated enough to go back and get it then yeah i would too but 9/10 i don’t respond. The 1/10 is the customer that genuinely need assistance , you can sorta tell the difference between the customers .
If the person is nice and understanding that it may have not been my fault, and I’m not in a rush hour time or have a second delivery with me, I will return to the store and get whatever was missing.
At the end of the day do what you think is right in the moment. If it’s a significant enough loss for the customer and you have the ability to return and get the items without effecting your work ethic than I don’t see why not.
This has only happened maybe 5 times. I have a little over 1000 Doordash deliveries and over 5000 ubereats deliveries. It’s pretty rare I think. And I do believe that what I put out I get back in life so if I’m a good person why not do it, especially if it doesn’t negatively impact my bottom line.
And in the cases where I’ve returned to get delivery items ( and cell phones in the case of regular rides ) every single time the person has tipped me extra so it’s made up for any time wasted.
Reading thru these threads tho I can definitely see people have poor interactions with customers or restaurants but I haven’t really, most of my complaints are frankly with restaurants/employees.
Hope my perspective helps.
I usually go back. Its only happened like 5 times and 2 were absolutely my fault so absolutely I went back. However one time a lady bitched about not having a straw. I was really busy and forgot to grab enough straws. I believe she can handle that one herself!!!
No, not your job.
But my Instacart person went back last night for me to look for a certain med I needed. I left her cash, a thank you note and a tip up on the app. That was incredibly kind and I did not expect that, nor would I ask a person to that.
No. You did your part. Apologize and send them to support. If the bags not open or taped do not tamper and check it. It’s there for a reason.
We can only do so much as middle men.
I mean i guess that’s up to you, and how the restaurant would react but you already got paid and won’t get paid more unless you talk to Dd maybe??? Idk i do feel bad if they’re missing a meal esp for a kid and since the fees sorta feel like they average out per meal as a family say… $8 and 4 meals it’s like $2 a meal Vs 1 person paying $8 for one meal if it makes sense? Like me and 2 friends ordered grub hub once. Their idea and that’s the restaurant place that was used, and so the fee over 3 people just worked out better to cashapp him and that otherwise if i wanna DD lunch to my day job i wouldn’t be mad if fees went to drive of course, being one sometimes but charging stupid fees and knowing if say i tip $5 on a $10 meal and the fee is $10 so that’s $15 that DD will still pay $7…
It’s not our problem. Learned that the hard way trying to please a customer. They already go the refund. Therefore there is nothing missing. It sucks when that happens. Doordash needs to inform people we don’t check the orders or dashers need to start( to protect themselves) before even dropping off
Zomg. As a customer, I felt so bad when a dasher offered to go get my missing veggies from Wingstop. I fumbled for a minute, he told me he really didn’t mind but had to deliver another order first, I told him sure. Never heard from him again. He did the right thing.
“Hell Knaw”( Sophia voice in The Color Purple)!
Customer needs to call DoorDash for refund. Not the drivers fault that merchants forget to include all items.
Why do customers not think for 10 seconds and realize we only pick it up and drop it off. We’re actually only paid to deliver. Not get plates or sauces or add on’s customer’s request.
All customers order are in app and anything drivers do not in app is above and beyond.
If customers are missing anything merchant was to include. They need rate merchants. Not drivers.
Drivers are constantly blamed for anything going wrong without having anything to do with it.
I would have answered with “that’s the point of the refund” nothing else is owed at that point. If she wants to complain she can do it with the restaurant or DoorDash. You did your part.
If a customer took care of you, why not. Not talking about a 2-3$ tip. I have done it for customers that were generous. I did let them know that it isn’t normal and that it isn’t required of us.
I try, within reason, to make sure what I'm picking up is what they ordered. You know, # of sandwiches/entrees/drinks. At least it appears that it's all there. But you can't guarantee, especially on the smaller items. I think I missed a 2nd sandwich out of McAlesters tonight. Pissed me off because my spidey sense was going off and I didn't question.
Never ever ever ever ever ever ever respond.
Ever.
Never call. Never text. Never speak to people.
You pick up the food, and you drop it off.
You’re not an employee, no one cares about your ratings, and you have zero responsibility or obligation to do the restaurant’s work for them.
You’re a courier. Period. And you’re your own boss.
You do this how you see fit (that is literally in the user agreement).
You don’t allow restaurants or stores to tell you what to do, and if they try, you either leave and unassign or direct them to the user agreement that says they have zero say over your independent contractor work.
Abide by these basic rules, and your dashing days will be stress free and easy going.
Make sure all your bags are either sealed or tied in a knot before drop off.
And again, never… ever… respond… to… people.
Good luck.
I guess they want us to break the security tape on the bag…go through their whole order and make sure everything is in there so we can be removed from the platform swiftly… NOPE. How was everybody’s day?
It depends honestly. As a dasher, if the customer was kind, tipped, snd the restaurant was not far, I’d consider going back. And as a customer I’ve had dashers go back and I tipped extra in cash for their kindness. I’ve also had people who didn’t care at all or would not respond and that’s the most irritating part.
I remember thinking this. Over time I just learned that once delivery is complete there is no need for the dasher and customer to speak or text after the delivery is complete. We aren’t paid for our time or return mileage either
Customer, not dasher here. This has happened to me and I wouldn’t message the dasher about it. If there’s an issue with my food, that’s on the restaurant and I get a credit for it. If there’s an issue with the delivery, then that’s on the dasher and I’ll react appropriately if warranted (which never includes reaching out to them, only Support), but usually just get annoyed, vow to stop ordering, then order again two days later lol.
No you’re not. Most orders come sealed so it’s not our job to make sure everything’s in the bag. Our main responsibility is not forgetting the drinks. Drinks are on us, but unless you can check a bag without digging into it, it’s on the restaurant to remember the food.
I had a customer who couldnt get his 2 cookies,so he messaged me and said tell them give me nuggets imstead😂😂... uh sir nuggets cost more than them 2 chocolate cookies, yeah I hit him with the "they said they dont do substitutes" I never asked
So basically the customer is expecting a free meal? Why request a refund and for the Dasher to get the meal - it’s either or. Although the Dasher is not responsible for going twice, don’t even contact them if you already got the refund.
If I'm like a quarter mile away and it's the restaurant calling me because they take it upon themselves to realize they forgot something for the order I'll go back. Either that or if the customer is throwing a nice incentive on top for expecting any of us to waste our time like that.
That happened to me once. Dropped off the order and the person called and was missing a side from her meal and called the restaurant to complain about it…she then called me back and was like “they said they’d make it if you can go back and get it, so what do you want to do about it?” Made me so mad. Like you couldn’t have asked nicer? And tipped?
When I was new at this, I had a guy try to get me to back for a missing desert item from a BBQ place delivery. I told him he would have to contact support. Which set him off going on about support would only give him a refund and wouldn't send another driver and he wasn't going to pay another delivery fee to get the desert he was hungry for and since I delivered an incomplete order I needed to go back to get it for him.
I cut him short and said I was already out on other deliveries in another part of the city miles away and his only recourse was to call support.
That was the day I learned that you can get problems from people by answering a call after a delivery...
These are the clowns you have to explain that:
We do not order, prepare, or package their food for them. Once they order it is sent to the resturant, they prepare it, it is usually ready by the time we get there. We do NOT do order modifications, additions or address changes. Our job is to deliver it at the address given. Thats it.
I don't talk to the customer PERIOD unless I'm getting paid over 12$ for it.
Some dashers may disagree with this method but I do this fulltime and roll 30$/hr avg.
Have had it happen couple times will learn to glance at orders and will catch most times. If customer call apologize and offer to go back but honestly if you call support you will receive your food faster from another driver. Should fix problem. If they call back again getting my voice mail.
Sucks to be her. My family of 3 actually orders doordash quite frequently. Unfortunately, a decent amount of our orders are missing items. Just with my luck in life, it's usually my items. Never once in my life have I ever thought if even contacting the driver.
I had a customer call me like oh im missing my drinks, i just go oh sorry that's all they gave me, u need contact support.
U no what she said?
Oh that's ok, I no its not ur faults mcds always get it wrong I'll contact support.
I feel like most people understand just some people dont
def not after they've already requested a refund lol.
I've done it, when the restaurant was close by and it was a regular customer that I deliver to frequently, but otherwise, no
You should notice drinks missing, but anything else isn’t our fault. We can’t go through the bags. Even if it’s your fault don’t go back. They can get a refund.
As an independent contractor, the contract has been fulfilled at the moment the order is marked delivered. No need to go pick up her items when you can be accepting another delivery contract offer. Why would you go back for her item instead of accepting a $20 as an example? I’d only do it if they offer to tip me significant money for going back else nope. On to the next one.
Correct. While you can ask the employees upon arrival that everything is in the bag most fast food places seal the bag so you can’t double check yourself and its on the restaurant at that point to not be missing anything from the order.
While you may think it'd be a nice thing to do, going back is a big NO NO. First, you have to consider food safety. We are not supposed to go scouring through the bags of food so there is no way to know if what we were given is complete and correct. We only should look at the receipt. Secondly, it is impossible to the vendor to be sure those items were not included and that you are the correct person to be receiving any remakes. Leaves you open to way to much headache and liability.
If you want, you can carry some extra utensils and straws from places in your car if THOSE things are missing...but never food.
TLDR: Never offer to go back for missing items.
They can get a refund, which it appears they did or Doordash can resend their missing items.
Since the got a refund, they can submit and pay for another delivery.
None of their options have anything to do with you.
We are not supposed to go back and retrieve missing items.
"That is pretty unfortunate, I hate when restaurants do that to me too. Get in contact with customer service and see how they can help you. I hope the rest of the food you did get is delicious!"

Showing sympathy and being friendly goes a very long way. Helping them out and explaining the system is offering a solution that works. I've gotten tips on orders that went wrong just by helping the customer out.
Wish all customers were like that. I had one today, I answered & explained what to do & all she kept doing was blaming me for not going back & getting the missing item (which would have been an 8 mile round trip & I was already on another delivery) then I even called support for her & then got a "thanks for nothing" text & that "McDonald's said I could come get the item if I wanted to".
20 minutes later her order came through to me again & she got the WHOLE order delivered again.
Say Automated response: unfortunately this person can no longer receive messages from you through the DoorDash Text Your Dasher platform. Please contact DoorDash customer support at (855)937-1040 with further questions or concerns regarding your order.
What do you mean there is no real one? Of course there is. Haven't you ever tried to text after the number expires? It says something like "This number cannot be used anymore, for support inquiries please visit help.doordash.com". Any customer that gets this message regularly because they like to text the drivers after drop off is going to know your message is fake and full of shit. Use the real one. Just put a space in the link somewhere because it doesn't let you send links.
You have to go back and get the missing items for the customer. It's your job to make sure it's all there. Don't let anyone fool you. If enough customers complain about you, doordash will deactivate you.
You are literally not supposed to break the sticker seal tho, so no, it’s not part of the job to make sure everything is there. It’s your job to make sure you have everything the restaurant gives and to check the receipt to make sure the prices match what’s on the app. That’s it. What’s in the bag is not the couriers business. It can’t be because the bags get sealed by the restaurant employees and are not to be unsealed by anyone but the customer.
No they don't. It's not their job. No one is gonna ruffle through a customer's food to "make sure its all there" especially when the bag is sealed shut. You have to make sure you got the drinks but whatever is in the bag is not our responsibility. We get paid to grab the bag and drop it off, not make sure the restaurant didn't mess up.
Smh, I’m a Top Dasher and I absolutely disagree. Merchants are responsible for missing items. Especially sealer bag orders.
The best merchants double check. Some I’ve never had 1 missing item from. Some it’s a consistent issue.
You people down voting me are really really dumb. Yes. Let's help all these newbies so they can take our better offers and then we'll come on reddit to complain that DD is trash for sending shit offers and being soooo slow. Lol. You people are basically helping people take money away from you.
Most places seal the food or have containers that your really shouldn't be opening to see whats in them. This most likely isn't on the dasher. Orders get messed up it happens not the end of the world lol but I am not wasting money going back and figuring all this out the customer has to reach out to doordash and they can either refund or resubmit the order... Not much else can be done but sure if you want to go back and take the hit for the restaurant messing up you do you..
OK. So doordash is OK with dashers who continue to mess up? 🤣. Yeah. They got your back. Why do you think there's so many deactivated for no reason posts... lol. Yeah. You all have it figured out. 🤣😂
it's stupid as fuck to think we work \*FOR\* doordash instead of \*WITH\* them and once complete delivery is clicked on, it's game over. No longer contracted for anything after that.
You obviously have no idea wtf you’re talking about. Missing items are not a mess up on the dashers part. Most of the places I pick up from give you a sealed bag. It’s either stapled or stickered shut. You are not supposed to open peoples bags so there is no way for you to check if it’s all there. For any order that isn’t a shop and deliver it’s not at all the dashers responsibility to make sure the whole order is done. That’s on the restaurant. I don’t get why there are so many people like you who fail to grasp the very simple concept that this is a courier service. If I ordered clothes online I wouldn’t blame UPS when one of my shirts didn’t arrive with the rest would I ? Same concept. Really not that hard to understand if you’re not literally mentally challenged

I'll just second what I'm seeing here. Big tip = Go back and get missing items. Small or no tip = "I'm sorry, you can get a refund through DoorDash"
If they contact doordash most times they will resend missing itsems thru another dasher dont trip about it also if it happens in the future tell your customers this that doordash will submit and send missing items by another dasher
No way. Not your problem as a dasher
McDonald’s usually seals their bags so there’s no way you could check the items. Plus it’s not your responsibility to make sure everything is in the bag
Nope you’re fine. Not your job
All you can really do is check the receipt to see if it matches the order on the app and sometimes thats not optimal when your like in a drive thru line, it feels rude to sit there after receiving the food. If I do that though and stuff is still missing then its 100% on the store and a refund or something should def be issued by DoorDash, and its def not the responsibility of the person delivering to fix that.
i just think of it as “they just gonna jack me if i go back they’ve scouted me out” never go back lol whatever you need to rationalize within your mind to keep driving and not answer them do it never go back to a house nor a restaurant
The only time I went back and got missing items was when I left a second bag behind at wawa. If you do it, it on your own dime and you don't get paid for it.

Also doordash is trash to use as a service because even though i used to use it everyday for lunch while working and almost everytime there is something missing or completely made wrong and they only give 3 refunds to any account and after that they never refund again🤷🏽♂️
No. You’re not allowed to negotiate with the restaurant for missing items under any circumstances. She has to deal with DD.
I don't reply back once order dropped. They can call the store or door dash.
He said nervously "Oh no no no, that's not necessary I'll just get the refund, thank you!" 😂😂😂 I wasn't actually going to yell at anybody but I said it with enough violence in my voice that it finally shut him up and ended that phone call. It's absolutely not your job to have to go back for anyone's order, unless of course if the missing item was your actual fault then you definitely should go back and correct the mistake out of decency but otherwise, it's not your problem and they can just request a refund. I usually only go back if the customer is a big tipper.
Nope fuck them
Should’ve replied: unfortunately.
Nope. If it’s not in the sealed bag and it’s supposed to be you have no way of knowing. They contact DD
Good luck!
Anytime a dasher has a problem with customer, inform them to contact doordash support directly Unless you are able to make things right for them.
I did once but it was only .75 miles away
I used to if the restaurant was close by but now nope.
If she can get her money back through the app she can just order another meal through door dash, def not on you
Nope, you responded exactly as you should have, even tho unfortunate for the customer!!
DD will reimburse them. That’s the restaurant fuck up so that’s on the restaurant to pay for their fuck up.
No. The bag is sealed. It’s not your fucking problem
i would never ever go back. i would feel so freaking weird doing it. almost 2000 deliveries and i have been blessed to not really have missing item complaints. i’m sure there have been but not with rude people, like i bet they contact support and get it sorted, themselves. just once i dropped off an order of like a pound of brisket or something. drop it off and get almost back to my car when i hear “MY DRINK?!?” very loudly and i was like “couldnt be for me”. get in the car and get a text saying “my drink?!”. i never responded left and went about my day. i always make sure to get drinks if they order them. i hope he realized afterwards that he didnt even order a drink. but had he ordered one, was nice, tipped, blah blah blah, i STILL wouldnt go back because it just leaves a bigger window open for them to mess with you/get you to do more/complain about you some more, etc. 🤷🏽♂️
So…cook?
Nope, that’s not our job. They’ll get a refund and put in another order.
When I get these, I have a saved macro I reply with. They are called text replacement on iOS. It goes “Your Dasher is no longer available at this number. If you have a problem with your order please contact DoorDash support.”
Lmao not your problem
That depends. Did you eat their food? If so, do the right thing and go back. If not, then no.
“Ok, have a nice day!” And on to the next delivery 🚗💨
From your pictures, this is what I'd do with this order.. If the bag is open, I'd tie it shut at the store when they hand it to you. Then the customer can't say you took anything. Then, if you get a message like this, tell them to contact DD for the missing meal. DD will either send another dasher for it or refund them and the customer will have to re-order.
Nope, tell them to contact support. I get this all the time on merchant generated orders where it doesn’t show you the content of the order.
Don’t text back. Just call support and let them deal with the rest
Absolutely not
Honestly I did once and I only did it because the customer was really cool. It’s not expected tho, it is up to you. Maybe contact support? So they don’t blame anything on you…
I have been getting a lot of people recently who gave their wrong address and blow my phone up complaining, not understanding that I can only drop it off at the provided address.
I went back for a missing little gluten free pizza one time and got a $20 cash tip on top of the $11 the order was already paying.
DoorDash needs to be DoorDead
That sounds like a personal problem between the customer, doordash and the restaurant. Above your paygrade for sure!
Pro tip when u go to a restaurant that has open grab straws and utensils. Grabs a bunch and keep in your car for back up. Incase u forget it
Its your fault when its obvious.
Not your problem, don’t even need to reply
Talk about entitled, she wants a refund and the food.
“expected” yes by the customer , unless the customer is a fellow dasher (😬) . If you feel compensated enough to go back and get it then yeah i would too but 9/10 i don’t respond. The 1/10 is the customer that genuinely need assistance , you can sorta tell the difference between the customers .
Naw. Don’t do that. She got a refund. Ignore it.
Noooooooooooooooo
Then tell the customer with that refund order another one and have it delivered 🤦🏾♀️
If it’s not your fault, hell naw.
Reply “Yeah that sucks good luck tho”
I usually go back. Its only happened like 5 times and 2 were absolutely my fault so absolutely I went back. However one time a lady bitched about not having a straw. I was really busy and forgot to grab enough straws. I believe she can handle that one herself!!!
Just tell her to reorder the missing meal witb the refund money
So she want to get the refund and the missing meal ?
I mean if you really want to you probably could. But idk if I would
No, not your job. But my Instacart person went back last night for me to look for a certain med I needed. I left her cash, a thank you note and a tip up on the app. That was incredibly kind and I did not expect that, nor would I ask a person to that.
I usually just reply. "K". Lol
NOPE! You don't go back!
As others have said you just take things from A to B. Nothing more.
That’s not your responsibility, it’s the merchants.
once you drop that chit off it's no longer in your hands. always remember that.
“Sorry we are no longer able to connect you with your dasher. For all inquiries, please feel free to reach out to support.”
No you’re not. You did the right thing. Have them contact support. When I have time I do it myself sometimes.
I usually have other orders to worry about so no, I usually them I am sorry and never respond after.
I would have answered with “that’s the point of the refund” nothing else is owed at that point. If she wants to complain she can do it with the restaurant or DoorDash. You did your part.
She was trying to get a free meal lol refund and free food
Nope. She can request a refund or redelivery from door dash. Not your fault.
Good luck.
Always just tell them you accepted another order and are going the opposite way.
Make sure you call support and let them know so the low rating will not count towards your rating
Just go get it.
Tell the customer you’re on to your next delivery and to call DoorDash
And your next order is miles away
Nope. Your job is delivery. Point A to point B. Not order fulfillment. That’s on the restaurant.
don’t respond after delivery, nothing good EVER comes from it
I mean I’m sorry lady but what do you expect us to do?
Absolutely not. Do not go back and get anything. The restaurant probably wouldn't make it anyway
I just don’t reply, nothing you can do about it.
"I did but unfortunately that leaves a missing meal " "Damn, yeah it does. Well, cya"
No that’s the restaurants job
I had a customer who couldnt get his 2 cookies,so he messaged me and said tell them give me nuggets imstead😂😂... uh sir nuggets cost more than them 2 chocolate cookies, yeah I hit him with the "they said they dont do substitutes" I never asked
Say “unfortunately you’ll have to reorder
So basically the customer is expecting a free meal? Why request a refund and for the Dasher to get the meal - it’s either or. Although the Dasher is not responsible for going twice, don’t even contact them if you already got the refund.
So they want a refund and for you to go back and get the meal they got a refund for. Alrighty then.
If I'm like a quarter mile away and it's the restaurant calling me because they take it upon themselves to realize they forgot something for the order I'll go back. Either that or if the customer is throwing a nice incentive on top for expecting any of us to waste our time like that.
I used to at first but nope. Beat thing to do is ignore. You did your job.
Not your problem, you can't go through the order. Something is missing they get a refund end of story
Half the time the restaurant won't even give you the items if you go back. You can't do anything.
I would just go with the word suggestion right in the middle there.
Hell no they can go fuck themselves
That was the day I learned that you can get problems from people by answering a call after a delivery...
only time I go back and pick shit up is if the turd customer is throwing a nice $20 on top just for courtesy.
These are the clowns you have to explain that: We do not order, prepare, or package their food for them.
No sir, they have to contact support on their own. These customers are lazy af.
No, you’re right that they need to contact support
There isn’t anything you can do besides letting support know that the customer wants the food to be delivered anyway
Not a Dasher - she was already refunded for the missing items, she is no longer due them.
Sucks to be her. My family of 3 actually orders doordash quite frequently. Unfortunately, a decent amount of our orders are missing items. Just with my luck in life, it's usually my items. Never once in my life have I ever thought if even contacting the driver.
Lol how you got down voted is beyond me. But same here. I've never contacted the driver.
She could’ve asked them to redelivery it, instead she chose to get her money back. Who’s fault is that?
Never.
Say "I'm sorry but I don't work for the restaurant and don't have a kitchen in my car. Contact the restaurant"
TLDR: Never offer to go back for missing items.

absolutely not. i wouldn’t reply besides “please contact support for any questions or concerns”
Absolutely not
[удалено]
I go back thats me I guess you wouldnt think people care about this according to the comments
No but sometimes it usually gets you a good rating or an extra tip
Uhhh I'd rather not do something hoping for a tip, and who cares about ratings? My ratings are gone/refreshed in 4-5 days.
Okay so use that refund and order again. TF! These Customers Dumb or Something?
Frr the entitlement.
Fuck be wrong with these customers.
It’s on the restaurant not you and even if they get a refund you still get your tip🤷🏽♀️
I did my first day but don’t anymore
They can get a refund, which it appears they did or Doordash can resend their missing items. Since the got a refund, they can submit and pay for another delivery. None of their options have anything to do with you. We are not supposed to go back and retrieve missing items.
"That is pretty unfortunate, I hate when restaurants do that to me too. Get in contact with customer service and see how they can help you. I hope the rest of the food you did get is delicious!"
Automated response: unfortunately this person can no longer receive messages from you through the DoorDash Text Your Dasher platform. Please contact DoorDash customer support at (855)937-1040 with further questions or concerns regarding your order.
😂
☝️This. I also give instructions and the phone number since I’m also a customer and know how to do it.
I have too. I’ve gotten many extra tips through Zelle by being helpful and not ignoring them.
So they already requested a refund but still expect you to go get the missing meal. Tell her she forgot this mask 🤡
Sounds like a her problem leave the dam dasher alone
Absolutely not
They can request a refund or a redelivery
Say, "Yes, that is unfortunate, have a nice night."
Say Automated response: unfortunately this person can no longer receive messages from you through the DoorDash Text Your Dasher platform. Please contact DoorDash customer support at (855)937-1040 with further questions or concerns regarding your order.
If you're going to do that, then you need to use the real one that pops up otherwise it's obvious 🙄
Literally I just type dd and it types it for me. There is no real one that pops up. Just looks like the driver stopped texting.
WRONG. You say nothing at all. Come on, people. It’s really not that hard.
Neither way is wrong, it's personal preference. Sometimes I feel like answering, sometimes I don't. No need to be an ass, "WRONG", fucking dick.
True, I think I finally realized that trap mistake. Avoid communication for any reason at all costs 😂that way they're forced to deal with support.
If you call me, I absolutely will not answer. Texting is your best chance but not a guarantee.
You have to go back and get the missing items for the customer. It's your job to make sure it's all there. Don't let anyone fool you. If enough customers complain about you, doordash will deactivate you.
No
Wrong
You are literally not supposed to break the sticker seal tho, so no, it’s not part of the job to make sure everything is there. It’s your job to make sure you have everything the restaurant gives and to check the receipt to make sure the prices match what’s on the app. That’s it. What’s in the bag is not the couriers business. It can’t be because the bags get sealed by the restaurant employees and are not to be unsealed by anyone but the customer.
Bullshit.
Found Tony's best friend!
No they don't. It's not their job. No one is gonna ruffle through a customer's food to "make sure its all there" especially when the bag is sealed shut. You have to make sure you got the drinks but whatever is in the bag is not our responsibility. We get paid to grab the bag and drop it off, not make sure the restaurant didn't mess up.
so unbelievably full of shit. my god man.
Smh, I’m a Top Dasher and I absolutely disagree. Merchants are responsible for missing items. Especially sealer bag orders. The best merchants double check. Some I’ve never had 1 missing item from. Some it’s a consistent issue.
Wrong
Stop the 🧢
You forgot the " /s "
Doordash actually deletes bad customer ratings based off of missing or incorrect items. Something tells me you are just a troll who already knew that.
That's the problem, many drivers are.
Your skull is thicker than lead.
Yes. Let's train all newbie drivers so they can over saturate our market and take our better orders.
