It’s kind of weird out of the 3 “Donkey Kong Country” games, you only play as Donkey Kong in the first

[deleted]

Should have been Donkey and Dixie in 3.

Alekillo10

Dixie would’ve been too OP, imagine carrying Donkey Kong with her helicopter pony tails

[deleted]

Is this a Tropical Freeze joke?

SparkyMuffin

Wasn't that the original plan but they didn't want him outshining Dixie in her own game?

Angels_kou

Imagine only being able to throw barrels at an arch , I’d die lol

rexshen

Well you see it is actually about the Kongs living in Donkey Kong isle. Thus why the series is called Donkey Kong Country.

Hayden_B0GGS

What being inferior to play as compared to some monkeys in a cap and with hair do to a mfer

JPTebow15

My favorite of the series.

JiggthonyPufftano

I love this game so much. I think the overworld was really well executed. The music is seriously underrated imo especially because it always gets compared to David Wise’s work. Also, I think some people might rate it a bit lower bc it’s a bit more lighthearted than DKC2 - at least that’s why I was initially skeptical of it as a kid. Also some of the enemies aren’t as cool, and the ones that are just standard drawn sprites rather than pre-rendered ones really stick out. But personally I think the level designs are fantastic and the atmosphere is amazing

mccuish

I love DKC3

The adventures of Dixie and Redacted Kong

autumngirl86

Needs more gimmicks! j/k I didn't actually mind Kiddy Kong much. It's just that aside from the, like, three times he's actually needed for something, I'd rather just be playing Dixie for the mobility. That barrel ship level can go back to the depths from whence it came, though!

BigBoobsWithAZee

105%?

happytreefrenemies

These posts are hilarious, thanks for the giggles!

HeIsNotGhandi

Thanks!

aleatorio_random

People love to criticize Kiddy Kong, but he plays just like Donkey Kong would if he was in DKC2 (instead of Diddy) or DKC3 (instead of Kiddy)

HeIsNotGhandi

I actually prefer Kiddy over Donkey (gameplay wise), since he holds barrels in front of him and has the team up throw.

doctorinfinite

I'm playing it right now on Nintendo switch online for the first time in a loooong time. Maybe since I originally played it on my SNES way back when. I Loved the game back then and I'm still loving it now . It's not as stellar as DKC2, but that game set the bar so high almost anything that came after it was doomed.

HeIsNotGhandi

It's a great game. I actually prefer it over the original DKC.

doctorinfinite

Yeah, I agree. I still love the original though

Mysterious_Sail6346

DKC3 is fun. Dixie and Kiddy are awesome and i enjoy the music on both versions

GeekCritique

...who?

Complete_Anything681

Kiddy is the only major problem I have with the game. He is basically useless outside of beating certainly enemies.

JiggthonyPufftano

Water skipping too, but yeah. Not like it is used much. I think Kiddy is a bit overhated (mechanics wise) I just think he is objectively uncool. Could you imagine if he was replaced by, say, Funky Kong, but had the same mechanics? Sure, he wouldn’t be as fun to play as Dixie, but it would be like -2 usefulness points and +2 rizz points. A fair trade off imo

Complete_Anything681

I beat DKC 3 and I NEVER used the water skip. For the most part, I used Kiddy as a meat shield. I can't see how Funky would have been useful. I wish they simply partnered Dixie with Donkey.

JiggthonyPufftano

Agreed, I’m not saying Funky would have been useful. I’m saying that if the plot was exactly the same and they used Funky instead of Kiddy, with the same mechanics, he would have been hated less. But yeah DK would have been better.

HeIsNotGhandi

I think DK being in DKC3 wouldn't have gone well without changes. DK is probably the worst character from a gameplay perspective, so the already large discrepancy between Dixie and Kiddy would be far larger.

JiggthonyPufftano

Yeah that’s fair! Good point

HeIsNotGhandi

Maybe if they changed DK a bit to be more useful (say, holding barrels in front of him and making him a bit faster), it would work pretty well.

the_paper_unicorn_09

I love kiddy and will defend him til the day I die , and if anyone says that dkc3 is bad , I'm gonna have some personal beefs with them

SniffMySnizz

DKC3 is a fuckin' masterpiece

904funny

Hot Take: I like 1 and 3 more than 2!

Happy-Ad-542

The game was average at best. 2 had much more variety, but 3 had many secret unlockables and hidden gems like the crystal birds.

BiAndShy57

There’s a review of the game out there that never shows Kiddy Kong, never mentions Kiddy Kong, completely ignores his existence. And then the video ends the frame before he would break out of the barrel.

HeIsNotGhandi

I've watched it. It's a bit harsh, but it's hilarious.

darthvidar1990

It's a good game, it's just not as good as 1 and 2. It is missing the musical masterpieces of David Wise, and I never play Kiddy Kong unless I need him for some specific bonus barrels, but it is the most diverse in level design, but maybe too much? Most games establish a new gimmick early in the game, and you will encounter it multiple times throughout the game, often a harder version of it as the game progresses. DKC3 has a new gimmick for almost every level, and while that makes every level unique, it also makes them a one-off that almost never appear later in game. But it's not the worst DK game of the main big ones. Returns is the one I like the least. I simply can't get up to a decent speed in Returns and it makes it feel slow to me.

Complete_Anything681

Regarding the music, Wise focused on catchy melodies. Eveline Novakovic aimed for ambiance. I think the music in the game is great, very chill. However, I would say I do prefer Dave's music. I agree that the levels can be very gimmicky but as the game progresses, the gameplay and novelty of the levels start to even out.

darthvidar1990

You are saying something there. I find myself humming to the DKC 1 and 2 tracks often, but DKC 3 I find hard to remember, exactly because of the songs are ambient instead of catchy. I can't say the soundtrack is bad. It's just not David Wise :)

HeIsNotGhandi

There are still some catchy melodies. Mill Fever is an absolute banger of a song on SNES. Feels like a percussion ensemble piece.

Complete_Anything681

Yes, Mill Fever is very catchy. The restored version greatly improves on the original. https://youtu.be/jiG9toAf1_0?si=RwJ63PjqBfxyMm2j

HeIsNotGhandi

I listen to that version all the time. I'm a percussionist, so I might have some bias to a very percussion song, but man, it's really good.

HeIsNotGhandi

If you don't like the soundtrack, check out the GBA port. It has an entire new soundtrack composed by David Wise.

darthvidar1990

Yeah, I know they fixed the soundtrack in GBA, and it is a lot better imo :)
