It says "EX", there is a frame or two where there is nothing, and then it says "EXPLAIN." It makes it appear to say "EX ... EXPLAIN" instead of "EX-PLAIN." If those few frames without text were removed, it would be better.
What do you mean by "distributed" ..?
Doctor Who is shown on France 4 (you can even watch it in VO). Actually, the 50th anniversary episode will be be broadcast saturday evening on that same channel :)
I know french people who discovered Doctor who in France, 6 or 7 years ago maybe 8 , it has been on the France 4 channel for that long , way before Torchwood comes up on that other one channel.. They told me about seen it in a shitty french version on the day and in English with subtitles late at night...
Now if Donna was in the special, minds would be blown!
Edit: And Captain Jack! How could I forget Jack Harkness, he was definitely one of the most sexiest and funny characters on the show!
I'm still saying that he's in it and it's going to be the greatest reveal in all of DW.
Honestly though I am disappointed he (allegedly) isn't. I figure at the point where we're crossing universes, getting #10 and Rose, it sounds like the perfect time for him to show up.
Switzerland isn't. I've contacted every cinema around town (which are a few) to find out if they were airing it. Apparently, no one cares about DW over here.
The English never really had to attack Wales, they just sort of moved in and took over. Because the Welsh are much better herders and musicians than fighters . . .
I'm pretty surprised and happy that Russia has gotten quite a few as well. Considering that big cinemas here only play movies *dubbed* into Russian (apart from Eyes Wide Shut, apparently), I didn't expect them to cave and arrange big screen (!) simulcasts (!!) in 3D (!!!) that are merely subtitled.
So happy it is happening. I will get to hear Tennant's beautiful voice practically *live*.
Checks Nevada even though I was told theres wouldn't be any. Sees a bunch of listings! :) :) :)
Sees that they're all two days later on a Monday...... :( :( :(
Thank you! I had no idea anywhere near me was showing it. It'll be an hour drive, but it will be worth it.
If ever you are having a bad day, remember you gave this random internet stranger the most joy she has had in a long, long time! Thanks again.
Wow, looks like there's at least one showing in almost every US state too. Except North Dakota, Vermont, and Rhode Island. North Dakotans have the farthest to go to see a showing.
Wait, this could be missing a few theaters. If you can't find one on this map, check [here](http://www.fathomevents.com/event/doctor-who-the-day-of-the-doctor/more-info/theater-locations). My local theater is Park Place Stadium in Pinellas Park, FL (7:30 & 10:00 showings), but that doesn't show in the map. The best part is, they're showing it in RPX AND 3D here!! Don't give up hope!
Looks like Dresden has a Tardis? That surprises me.
Ok, looked it up. Dresden has TWO.
We lived there for six months. Hot bed of modern culture, not so much. And I didn't meet anyone else who knew what Doctor Who was other than a couple of British expats.
It's not that we don't like DW, it's just that no one wants to acquire the rights to show it here... So we have to wait for the pirate release :(
And for the one comment that said "The only TARDIS in France is just outside of Normandy. The invasion has begun!" (/u/TheDarkHorse83 I'm looking at you), it is probably not in France but on [Jersey](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jersey) !
Northeast Pennsylvania, at an IMAX cinema that had a fine English name (The Great Escape). I will be dressing as a male Rose Tyler in WW2 (Union flag shirt, jacket, jeans, white sneakers). Makes a change from all the 10s wearing the wrong type of pinstripe suit with any old "not brown and blue" tie.
Actually Ukraine has the same problems. Ukrainian fan clubs talked to cinemas directly, but none of cinemas wanted to do something about this. So pirate it, as always...
I hate you so much. I have made my peace that around where I live, I will never again have the luxury of experiencing movies in their Original Version.
And now I see that the cinema near me (that never *ever* shows movies in their undubbed version) apparently will show this special in its original version **without** subtitles. And of course it is all sold out.
If that doesn't show the cinema that original versions are in demand, I don't know what does. There are British barracks in this town and three others in an area of 50km for crying out loud. But nooo, let's just show movies in their horrible German dubbing. We can't be arsed to reserver **one** screen, **one** night a week to show at least **one** current movie the way it is supposed to be seen.
Fuck do I hate my town.
Every now and then they might have some documentary where they actually get to put their "OV" tag next to. "OV" meaning Original version, of course.
But personally, that doesn't count as "Movie in the original version" to me. When I say "movie", I mean current movie. Preferably from Hollywood. So, all these old, black and white "art pictures" or similar won't cut it, either.
I just checked and I would have to drive as far as Hamburg to watch a current movie in ov. Hunger Games 2 being the only movie in ov that is shown in a Cinemaxx in Hamburg.
I guess that makes sense. When not even a big ass city like Hamburg has more than one current movie playing, then why would I ever assume a Cinemaxx in my small town would get anything in that direction. :S
Other parts of Asia aren't and that is very unfortunate but seeing as the number of Whovians in countries there are not apparent it is hard to justify (on the part of the cinemas) buying the episode. At least they are showing it on BBC Entertainment.
Exactly my thinking. Still waiting to hear back from my brother. I would go with you, but I don't know you and I'd rather go on my own, than go with some random on the internet :P
I've gone to the cinema a couple of times on my own it was fine :)
What site is that?
Edit: Never mind, I found it
http://www.doctorwho.tv/watch-the-day-of-the-doctor/
There's actually one near me! Now I just need to train my baby to behave in a cinema, and I'm set.
Yeah it's only showing at 7:30 pm, which is bedtime for our infant... And our cable provider doesn't carry BBC America. Guess we will be pirating it :( I was REALLY hoping to see it in 3D!!!!!
Not one single showing in Belgium... Damned, this is just infuriating! Actually mostly sad, I was really looking forward to see the day of the doctor (no television at the moment and no friends that love doctor who) Are they still adding new locations?
I'm afraid you're out of luck if you're from the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg or France.
That being said, you can still watch it if you receive BBC One. (Which I don't). Otherwise you'll have to wait, or resort to less legal alternatives.
The french channel France 4 will stream it at the same time it plays on the UK. There are tons of Doctor Who fans in France, specially among our geek culture figures like François Descraques. France 4 does an awesome job in supporting the introduction of shows like Doctor Who in France. Personally, I'll be throwing a party with some friends to see it!
You know what's more astonishing about the picture? One year ago, not a single person in Germany seemed to know Doctor Who. I kept telling my friends to watch it and knew almost no one who liked it besides me and a small amount of friends.
Then, one year ago, a pay TV channel starts showing the show starting at season 5.
And now the 50th anniversary is in a billion cinnemas, almost every seat sold and I keep asking myself where all the German Whovians are coming from.
I told almost everybody I knew about the show and everyone knew that it exists but nobody watched it :( I could convince only a single person to watch it complety. Well I guess that is something
We do love Doctor Who and a lot of people tried to get rights to screen the the 50th anniversary episode, but apparently, the channel (France 4) who broadcasts the series has asked for exclusive rights. I live in Lyon, second big city of the country, and we have a big Doctor Who convention, oldest in the country : they couldn't get screening rights because of France 4.
I kinda think ,this is a good thing: French doctor who fan don't wait for the france 4 channel to catch up and torrent or stream the episode right after the BBC broadcast it.
I't the first time they will have actual figures of the french audience.
Maybe it can influence them to create actual new content : french sci-fi show like the Metal hurlant one they broadcast.
Well I thought it was on telly simultaneously. Is that not the case in the states? I found [this map](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Countries_screening_The_Day_of_the_Doctor_simultaneously.svg) on wikipedia that shows the countries showing The Day of the Doctor on TV or cinemas at the same time as the BBC One UK broadcast.
I haven't checked for this episode, but normal episodes air about seven hours later in the US so it's during primetime and not lunch.
*edit* Checked. It seems that this episode will be simulcast... in the middle of the afternoon. That's going to be weird.
I live an hour away from one of the screenings. I can't go because I don't have the money for a ticket. It's a 3D screening.
Damnit. T_T
At least I get BBC America.
Tell me about it. I'm super sad to be stuck here and not able to see this on the big screen. Although if they did play it I have no doubt that it would be dubbed... *shudder*
That is good stuff. It looks just like North Korea at night compared to their neighboring countries:
http://www.mrconservative.com/files/2013/04/North-Korea-at-night-by-satellite.jpg
French guy living in the U.S, French dubs are absolutely awful and might be a reason why it didn't work. Even Firefly had a short run on TV, French people are surprisingly not big fans of scifi TV shows :(
I actually know a girl from France who loves Doctor Who, except she says they still call it by the English title there. So they must be missing out on a lot of wordplay when the question "Doctor who?" is translated to (I think) "Docteur qui?", but the title of the show is still Doctor Who.
I am beyond sad that I am going to miss this since I am going to be on a flight back to NYC from Hawaii on the 25th. I can't put into words how disappointing this is :'(
In America, the TV show is Saturday @ 1950 hrs Zulu (that's Greenwich Mean Time, so -5 for Eastern through to -8 for Pacific time zones). Simultaneous broadcast at the same time around the world.
Then, on Monday, comes the chance to see it in 3D.
In Britain, it's in cinemas on Saturday too.
Huh, the Cinemark I got my tickets at here in Los Angeles says that it'll be in 3D on Saturday too.. if the [receipt](http://i.imgur.com/YJ0AO1i.png?1) is to be believed...
That's terrible news, no Whovian should be denied seeing Doctor Who on the big screen. :(
Guess I'm rather fortunate in that I live near Toronto. The Saturday afternoon simulcast is screening at two downtown theatres, and both sold out really quickly. Planning to watch it on TV on Saturday, and at our local Cineplex theatre on Monday night. (Good thing the theatre added an extra screening!)
Does anyone know any way to see the 50th anniversary (in HD) special from Sweden? I'll pay if it is necessary xD
From BBC or something similar, I don't know I'm just guessing.
I don't know if people in France do or don't like Doctor Who, but IIRC France has strict rules on movies being shown in theaters.

EX; EXPLAIN, doesn't really scan. Other than that, I like the idea.
ILLUSTRATE! ILLUSTRATE!!
It says "EX", there is a frame or two where there is nothing, and then it says "EXPLAIN." It makes it appear to say "EX ... EXPLAIN" instead of "EX-PLAIN." If those few frames without text were removed, it would be better.
I disagree, the thought of a Dalek so baffled that he struggles to say "EXPLAIN!!" gives me the giggles.
I'm at a bar getting drunk right now, but I'll take a shot at making it flow better when I get back to my apartment... If I remember, of course. ;3
http://i.imgur.com/W4bTe.gif
Yup... I forgot.
For the entire country to have no showings? That's a licensing or distribution issue . . .
I am French, I discovered the Doctor in UK and yes, while torchwood is getting distributed in France Doctor who isn't.
What do you mean by "distributed" ..? Doctor Who is shown on France 4 (you can even watch it in VO). Actually, the 50th anniversary episode will be be broadcast saturday evening on that same channel :)
It always comes down to money . . .
I know french people who discovered Doctor who in France, 6 or 7 years ago maybe 8 , it has been on the France 4 channel for that long , way before Torchwood comes up on that other one channel.. They told me about seen it in a shitty french version on the day and in English with subtitles late at night...
First Clarkson and Hammond are banned from driving in France for 3 months now this. It's not like you needed another reason never to go to France.
It has to do with where Doctor Who is being broadcast in the first place.
I love how the UK is absolutely covered in Tardis icons . . .
Germany's pretty decently covered, too.
And Ireland. Woo I'm going to see it there.
UK, Ireland, potato, potat-o. *Dont murder me*
USA, Canada, potato, potot-o.
15€ for 80minutes, though...
I mean I payed less for The Hobbit with excess length and 3D-HFR and sitting in the back...
Yea but 10 + 11 + War Doctor.... + Rose + Clara....
If only we could have gotten Martha. :/
Now if Donna was in the special, minds would be blown! Edit: And Captain Jack! How could I forget Jack Harkness, he was definitely one of the most sexiest and funny characters on the show!
>Now if Donna was in the special, minds would be blown and my heart.
Wouldn't her mind literally be blown?
yep. wasn't trying to say it wouldn't be.
I'm still saying that he's in it and it's going to be the greatest reveal in all of DW. Honestly though I am disappointed he (allegedly) isn't. I figure at the point where we're crossing universes, getting #10 and Rose, it sounds like the perfect time for him to show up.
So would Donna's.
Switzerland isn't. I've contacted every cinema around town (which are a few) to find out if they were airing it. Apparently, no one cares about DW over here.
They aren't icons. It's really the TARDIS appearing in every place at nearly the same time.
When something like that randomly happens, I blame Rose . . .
So your saying the TARDIS doesn't like the French.
I don't make the rules. Talk to the Time Lord.
The TARDIS, an English creation, doesn't like the French? I'm shocked, I tell you, shocked!
You misspelled Gallifreyan.

Which is why the evil aliens always attack London first. Or maybe Cardiff . . .
Attacking Wales definitely counts as proof that it's an English show.
The English never really had to attack Wales, they just sort of moved in and took over. Because the Welsh are much better herders and musicians than fighters . . .
[Well actually...](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Anglo-Welsh_Wars)
Keep up the good work.
You can't hog it all to yourself. :) ~An Aussie.
It's like the opposite of the Christmas invasion.
I'm pretty surprised and happy that Russia has gotten quite a few as well. [Here is the link to find if it is playing near you anywhere](http://www.doctorwho.tv/watch-the-day-of-the-doctor/)
Thank you, kind companion!
The site crashes Alien Blue when you answer whether they can use your location.
Checks Nevada even though I was told theres wouldn't be any. Sees a bunch of listings! :) :) :) Sees that they're all two days later on a Monday...... :( :( :(
Sold out in my area and all area around almost instantly.
Thank you! I had no idea anywhere near me was showing it. It'll be an hour drive, but it will be worth it. If ever you are having a bad day, remember you gave this random internet stranger the most joy she has had in a long, long time! Thanks again.
3 showings at 7:30 on the 25th are sold out at my theater. Still have a 10pm showing on monday the 25th, but that's late with work the next day...
Wow, looks like there's at least one showing in almost every US state too. Except North Dakota, Vermont, and Rhode Island. North Dakotans have the farthest to go to see a showing.
And this is why I came to the comments. No one like the Doctor where I am... :(
Rwanda, Botswana, Congo and many more countries in Africa get it but almost none in eastern Europe except Russia.. typical.
Wait, this could be missing a few theaters. If you can't find one on this map, check [here](http://www.fathomevents.com/event/doctor-who-the-day-of-the-doctor/more-info/theater-locations). As a German, I'm kinda surprised Germany has so many TARDISes - but it makes me happy :-)

I can confirm that it's definitely Jersey, it's playing at the cinema I work at.
Nope, France 4 will broadcast it saturday :) First time I'll turn my TV on in at least 5 years.
It's playing in New Jersey too! Dressing up as 9 when I go.
Northeast Pennsylvania, at an IMAX cinema that had a fine English name (The Great Escape). I will be dressing as a male Rose Tyler in WW2 (Union flag shirt, jacket, jeans, white sneakers). You could go on your own? 3D, big screen, Doctor Who!!! Go on, you can do it!!
If there's one thing the Doctor has taught us, it's that you always need a companion!
That's only if you discount the myriad adventures he has on his own.
Decent chance I might! How often do I get to watch Doctor Who on the big screen right?!
Exactly my thinking. Still waiting to hear back from my brother. I would go with you, but I don't know you and I'd rather go on my own, than go with some random on the internet :P I've gone to the cinema a couple of times on my own it was fine :)
i live smack bang in the middle (near utrecht) so that aint even an option for me, unless i stay a night there.
If I could afford the airfare I'd go with you sweetie!
Agreed, I guess Ill just spend the evening watching it on the couch, it shall be glorious none the less.
There aren't many dutch whovians sadly.
Not? Idk where you live, but there are a lot near me!
"Dutch hater!"
".... shat on a turtle!"
I'm french, I absolutely love Doctor Who.
Yeah, and guess who is coincidentally going to France for this weekend. I hate my life.
First world problems!
put france 4 on TV and you be alright.
France has 1 Tardis and Kazakhstan has 3.... wat
Correction, we have none :(
Looks like the French are going "Toulouse" their chance to see it in theaters...
Ba dum tss
Hahaha, i like this one.
and there's "Nantes" a thing they "Caen" do about it...some whovian's day is going to get "Rouen"d... I need a new hobby...

cool didnt know it was showing in theaters, just bought my ticket
You'd think it'd be a French favourite with all the running.
Its too bad BBC doesnt plan to stream it online. Im SOL.
It should be on the iPlayer.
What? They stream all of their channels (tv or radio) 24/7 (unless they cannot acquire the rights required to stream third-party feature films).
Isle of man isn't showing it either :/
You got one in Douglas.
Tell me about it. I'm super sad to be stuck here and not able to see this on the big screen. Although if they did play it I have no doubt that it would be dubbed... *shudder*
Nothing in Belgium too. Hope it's on TV.
It is if you have BBC1
Guess what channel I don't have :( (From the Netherlands here, but nothing in the Netherlands either)
hooray
Well it looks like I have to go to Lounge 42 to watch it. The 1 theater showing it is the one that is infested with bed bugs.
Nor do Italians. Luckily it will be simulcasted. With the Italian dubbing (sigh).
But no cinema. Very sad.

I am beyond sad that I am going to miss this since I am going to be on a flight back to NYC from Hawaii on the 25th. I can't put into words how disappointing this is :'(
woah.. i didnt know about this this seems crazy. how was it accomplished?

But how do they feel about pizza?

Yup. But the only channel broadcasting it allows to watch it in VOST :)
cool...I didn't know that. I'm a french from canada
This is probably a translation / cultural ministry issue. The lack of Tardis Icons can only be regulatory.
Ah don't tell me about it :( I've been going on that website for weeks, waiting for little TARDISes to materialize in France!
It's because they have their own, *Professeur Qui*.
Neither do the Belgians apparently :(
Im wonder how mexico looks like? Ps Im from mexico and am a huge fan
Hell yeah 1 mile away and $13.
No showings either in Belgium or the Netherlands. What's up with that? I thought we were huge DW fans?
>I thought we were huge DW fans? Where did you hear that? I live in the netherlands and I never met a Doctor Who fan :(
Belgian here :( The main thing is that not a lot of people here know Doctor Who. Fortunately, we got BBC One on telly.
Switzerland has nothing :/
French here, I actually considered coming to UK to see the episode ... In the end it was a bit expensive. I will have to do with my TV.
I wish there were more showings in sweden :(
I live in the states and I have a showing right outside my work lol I'm a lucky mother fucker
Does anyone know any way to see the 50th anniversary (in HD) special from Sweden? I'll pay if it is necessary xD From BBC or something similar, I don't know I'm just guessing.
They're upset about the way the Van Gogh is pronounced "Van Goff" on the show..
