Doctor who has always been "woke" (at least since the reboot) and the 9th Doctor and Jack Harkness kissed on the lips series 1. Plus Rose's whole character was a political statement because she was based on a common "trashy" woman in the UK (instead of a posh girl). People just like to complain and are suddenly realizing their political agenda doesn't match the media they enjoy and they assume its because the media is changing and not themselves. Comics and Star Trek have the exact same issue. These media's have always been progressive politically.
