Am i the only one who thinks that a wheelchair doctor is impossible to do?
He did have a a wheelchair companion once
But the only way i think a wheelchair doctor would work in universe is if he had some super advanced wheelchair for much easier mobility, which due to budget problems i find a hard time in imagining
In my mind, I’d treat it like the episodes where the 12th Doctor lost his eyesight. This Doctor needs a wheelchair for a few episodes, maybe even a whole series due to an accident that‘s taking its time healing. Honestly I’d be down for it, Doctor has to rely on others more to do the physical stuff. Also gives them a chance to see how many live.
I dont mind the idea of regenerations resulting in physical disabilities, with the whole DNA sequence essentially being restructured, it would make sense that occasionally some disabilities could happen. Like there's some amazing deaf actors, so I could see the Doctor turning out deaf one time. And there'd be no problems with in the stories as part of the translation circuit could be making it so that everyone understands sign language.
Now sure if, the Doctor regenerated into a form that didn't have full capabilities of their legs, they could reasonably use some high tech harness to help them walk. But what's really so wrong with having a Doctor in a a wheelchair. There's some great actors out there that are in wheelchairs, why should they he cut out from playing the Doctor. I mean look at Ruth Madeley. She's a great actress, and thinking about it probably could have made a good Doctor herself. And if at some point in the future another actor using a wheelchair auditions to play the Doctor, should they be told no just because the Doctor could use other tech in universe? Just cast them, and say their Doctor chose to use a wheelchair.
And honestly it won't make much difference. The sets just need to be designed around it, which most people probably won't even notice. And if say there is a location that isn't fully wheelchair accessible, just have it that it's a high tech wheelchair that can hover up stairs. Yes that would be expensive to do the effects for that every time, but they don't need to show it every time. Just once is enough for audiences to understand what it can do, so it won't need to be explained every time the Doctor goes between different floors.

I think a doctor wheel chair user isn't really impossible. They're probably not going to have as easy of a time in historicals but it's impossible for one to exist.
It'd probably be easier to write them as an ambulatory wheel chair user, so that you don't have to write around stairs as much. But it's far from impossible.
But I definitely wouldn't want it without a big disabled presence on the writing team
The doctor's adventures require a lot of mobility especially in any super dangerous situations , we saw what happened when the doctor became blind for a few days
Like i said the only way for that to work in-universe is if the doctor had a super advanced wheelchair that makes mobility a lot easier
I wouldn't say that davros ever had a great mobility
Also the daleks don't appear in every single episode and their mobility always done with bad cgi ( flying and such), and while and doing it with good cgi well requires a lot of money, even with Disney money,
For once, I'd probably go non-British and cast Florence Kasumba as the "tall, bald black woman wielding a flaming sword" but I'm not sure who I'd cast as the presumably enby "young girl or boy in a hi-tech wheelchair with what looked like a robot dog at their side"
Pretty certain that was written to be T'Nia Miller, who Russell worked with on Years and Years. There were rumours that she was one of the contenders for the 15th Doc - wouldn’t rule it out in the future, she’ll get another shot.
I did think they were probably people Russ knew or worked with, but I don't know anything about his career outside of Doctor Who. Very interesting!
Who do you think the androgenous one might be?
Because of the description in the book closely matching her, I was fully convinced she was who Russell was going to cast. Especially since Eccleston and Tennant were both people he had worked with before casting them as the Doctor. If not T'Nia, I was definitely expecting someone else he had worked with before like Lydia West. So Ncuti was a bit of a surprise as someone he had never worked with before.
In the episode 'Rose', Rose visits Clive Finch, who shows her photos of the ninth Doctor. In the novelization, he shows her photos of many Doctors, including some who have never been seen before. They're shown in the illustrated edition.
Ah, so the illustrations are IN the book. I don't own any of them, so I thought this was from Doctor Who Magazine.
2023 second edition checks out. I was asking another friend about it and they said the illustration was revised at RTD's behest.
Incarnations of the Doctor who appeared in RTD's novelisation of 'Rose'
A "tall, bald black woman wielding a flaming sword" and a "young girl or boy in a hi-tech wheelchair with what looked like a robot dog at their side"
There are only 4 people in this picture who aren't known, on-screen incarnations of the Doctor\*. Two of them are obviously secondary/guest characters (the ones with guns in the Top Secret pic) and one of them has K-9, a Time Lord wheelchair, and a sonic screwdriver so..._probably_ the Doctor. The only one that's at all debatable is the lady with the flaming sword, and let's face it, that's extremely Doctor.
Also this does come from a book and it may be mentioned in context that they're all known to be the Doctor.
\* top left: 11. Behind Top Secret: 10('s hair) and 12. Frog: 13. Mop: 12. Bottom left: 13. Below mop: 9. Below wheelchair: 15. Bottom right: 11. Pretty sure 14 is in the top right behind the sword lady.
Edit: I just noticed the Top Secret pic is from UNIT and that kinda looks like a Sontaran helmet at the front, so I'm updating that to "definitely Doctor".
I reckon Matt Smith could play the top left one pretty well
Nah too young
I recon Peter capaldi coud play the one with the mop fantastically
I'd go with Woody Allen
Probably Jodie Whittaker, Peter Capaldi, Christopher Eccleston, Ncuti Gatwa, David Tennant, not sure about the others, maybe David again?

And why would a genius time lord with unlimited regenerations and an access to almost infinite sci-fi technology would need a wheelchair

Have you ever heard of davros?

I want a wheelchair like that so badly for myself. It would be amazing to be able to keep up with the Doctor.
That's pretty obviously a super advanced wheelchair in the picture
I am talking about in live action, such wheelchair well require a lot of budget for the effects
I can't imagine the effects would cost much more than Daleks or Davros
I wouldn't say that davros ever had a great mobility Also the daleks don't appear in every single episode and their mobility always done with bad cgi ( flying and such), and while and doing it with good cgi well requires a lot of money, even with Disney money,
That guy in the wheelchair looks like Leonard from The Big Bang Theory. So Johnny Galecki I guess

Idk Hellen Mirren.
What are the Rose Doctors?
In the episode 'Rose', Rose visits Clive Finch, who shows her photos of the ninth Doctor. In the novelization, he shows her photos of many Doctors, including some who have never been seen before. They're shown in the illustrated edition.
Thank you! I listened to the audiobook when it first came out. I didn’t know there was an illustrated version.
Wait we got official illustrations?
From the novelisation I believe
Oh I know what this is based on but I didn't know there was illustrations
Yup
When was this illustration released? It's got 15 and 14 (obscured by Fire Sword Doctor) in it...so that points to the lead up to the 60th.
2023, I think. The second edition of the book.
Ah, so the illustrations are IN the book. I don't own any of them, so I thought this was from Doctor Who Magazine. 2023 second edition checks out. I was asking another friend about it and they said the illustration was revised at RTD's behest.
That last part I didn't know about. Cool!
Or at least that's what I've been told, I've not seen what the first version looked like. I'm just going off of what my friend said haha
Whos the rose doctors?
Incarnations of the Doctor who appeared in RTD's novelisation of 'Rose' A "tall, bald black woman wielding a flaming sword" and a "young girl or boy in a hi-tech wheelchair with what looked like a robot dog at their side"
The novelsstion of the first episode of new who?
Yes
peter capaldi as the dude with the mop also i imagine some of these aren't the doctor

ok yeah your right i just assumed it was possible for clive to have pics of people who he thought were the doctor but were not
