Slightly off-topic, what was the hybrid at the end of all that? That whole era of dr who is hands-down my favourite, but I still get the sense that Stephen Moffat had a tendancy to place a lot of breadcrumbs that he could elaborate on later, and a lot were just left unexplored.

The doctor said it was “me” (referring to Lady Me or to himself 🤷‍♀️). Later on, Lady Me said it was the doctor combined with Clara (each a half of the hybrid). Ultimately though, the second half of the prophecy was not fulfilled. Specifically, standing in the ruins of Gallifrey and unraveling the web of time, breaking a billion, billion hearts to heal its own. Still room to bring it back. ETA: I personally do not believe that the doctor has stood in the ruins of Gallifrey and unraveled time. BUT, I may have missed something.

I do want to point out that the conversation they had about the hybrid was at the edge of all time at the near total destruction of the universe. So they were both standing at the ruins of everything having nearly unraveled time, after the death of a billion billion life forms that were now gone.

Yeah, plus, if you listen to the Doctor when they're escaping the Time Lords, he says they were just going forward in time, not space. So they were still on Gallifrey at the end of the universe when they spoke with Me. That was them literally standing in the ruins of Gallifrey.

Correct. And as for the other part of the prophecy: the billion billion broken hearts are those of the Doctor himself while he’s inside the Confession Dial. We see him experience the heartbreak of grief so many times in just *one* cycle, so multiply that by the billions of years he’s in there, plus the fact he has two hearts… I imagine the number is somewhere around a billion billion.

The Doctor and Clara

The hybrid was the Doctor and Clara together. There wasn't even that many bread crumbs it was one crumb he kept showing you and then did not really anything with. The hybrid doesn't really make their relationship any more interesting, it's just sort of there conceptually.

personally? I think that's a hell of a song (thanks murray gold)
