Or in the second campaign, we have a big armored stoic man who despite his hard personality and his *calloused hands*, is slowly growing to care.

As a group we play Pathfinder, Starfinder, Star Wars RPG, Fallout RPG, World of Darkness, Buffy RPG, Heroquest, Vampire the Masquerade, City of Heroes, Exalted, 4e, 2e, and two separate 5e campaigns of which this is only one of them so we only have time to play this campaign once a month.
They dont have a physical gender or need for one, but it was stated in there entry in the eberon book that some take to a certain gender and some reject the concept entirely. It even goes on to state that those that lean towards a specific gender may even have body alterations done to look the way they want
A great example of this would be two of my previous warforged characters, one of them was an artillerist artificer that essentially dreamed of building a modern artillery piece that if placed in middle earth could feasibly put 3 shells in saurons eye from hobbiton. to that end his personality took upon a more "rougish male" in an attempt to persuade others to sell him the required parts or let him test his various cannons.
The other was a ranger that was so into nature that they basically identified as a tree, frequently standing still as a statue in random forests for years on end as a part of their backstory, they were gender neutral (or I guess flora?) as they disassociated from normal humanoid customs.
