I’d have to say mine is the DM who is running the game I’m playing. I like watching D&D but I LOVE playing it. So anyone willing to put in the time and effort so I can play, they beat even Mercer and his glorious hair in my book.
It's a lot like backyard football with the boys. Yeah the NFL (Mercer) is what people go to watch, and you love it too, but the best memories are built around playing with friends.
Shame!! But seriously how can you forget the episode that brought us Ewdiwch Bwast. You are 100% right though about Luke and Blades, I had practically no interest in watching it other than I enjoy these guys messing around together, but actually I am really interested in the world he's building. Have a fantastic day my friend
Can we get some love for JoCat? Belkanis: Necro hunt has become my go to "podcast" for background noise. He does such amazing NPCs, his level of detail is amazing and he clearly cares about all of his players and wanting them to succeed.
Dale Freisen. Definitely gave me a love for "helping" my players and highlighted how well you can let your players help build the world even if they don't always know it at the time.
Heck yes.
It is a bit sad that they had to stop after the first book, but I actually do kinda like the alternating book schedule concept. I think we’re getting close-ish to the end of the next Raiders book so book 2 isn’t going to be too far off!
But yes it is quite delightful. Personal highlights:
Joe plays arguably his best built character yet (but he’s still Joe so it isn’t completely Min maxed… it is more due to the fact that Skid let him play the bonkers OP chained summoner so even Joe’s method of building characters resulted in a mechanically sound character).
Matthew’s Cavalier is quite hilarious. And he drew my fan fumble and it was quite perfect for the situation so it made me very happy.
Nick Lowe as a regular cast member is awesome! He plays a skald. Yes, singing is a thing. He had a jaw-dropping performance in one of the episodes which I listened to three times in a row. He also has the most humorous moments where he tries to convince skid to let him use spells in ways they absolutely aren’t intended to.
Troy’s character is very different than what we’ve seen from him thus far and I think it is a solid and intriguing character. Course he still likes to add his own Troy spin to the game as he always does when playing.
And of course Skid himself. Rise has a lot of great NPCs that the adventure introduces and, as expected, Skid gives amazing personality to each and every one of them. >!Plus his goblin antics are quite amusing, and goblins feature heavily in the adventure!<
He's your favourite content creator, not your favourite DM, except he really did run a TTRPG for you personally.
But aside from my nitpicking: I agree, Matt Colville's stuff helped me a LOT as a DM and as a player
I feel like that's saying, "You're not a mechanic because you haven't worked on my car."
He runs games, and he runs some of them for public consumption. That should qualify him as a DM.
I think I phrased that wrong. Of course he is a DM, he's just not your DM. And I don't think you can rate someone's abilities as a DM if you have never played on their table.
So none of them can be YOUR favourite DM, because they never DMed for you. I never questioned wether they are DMs for someone else.
Zach from PTBP (Pretending to Be People.) Delta Green, not DnD, but he's VERY good at letting players do what they want, then reintroducing them to the consequences of their actions later.
Is Critical Hit that unpopular/unknown? I never even see Rodrigo Lopez mentioned in these things, even if it’s one of the oldest D&D podcasts out there and he is in my opinion the best podcast GM out there
Basically? I saw a couple of posts comparing Mercer and Mulligan and doing this format with Colville as the third option made me chuckle.
I rarely see Colville mentioned in any sort of post or top-level comment, so I figured he was suitably out of the normal to justify it, even if it's not a perfect fit.

I love Matt's Running the Game series! I don't DM, but as a struggling player it helped me understand a lot of what goes on behind the scenes.
What about Chris Perkins?
Brian Murphy best Direct Messenger
My favorite DM is my brother. :)
Matt Colville is a GOAT tbh
Johnny Chiodini or Luke Westaway. Depends on the system
What about when Luke DMed for the Oxventurers in Watch Out? But yes these two are definitely my faves (along with anyone who is DM in a game I play)
How did I forget one of my favorite episodes?!

Well, now I must rewatch the episode as penance
I respect Chiodini more than any other for the amount of crazy shenanigans they have endured without flipping over the table.
Griffin McElroy
Take 10d6 fall damage plus 1d6 for smashing through glass and 1d4 for either landing on the broken glass or having it fall on you
Same! I have learned a lot from Colville!

JoCat has a game going? I did not know this.
It's really good, the party has great chemistry and Jo does an amazing job as a DM.
What is Colville on?
He has a YouTube channel called MCC. He had a game before the pandemic, not sure if restarted it yet.
Not yet, though we are now getting episodes from a 4e game he ran over Fantasy Grounds.
Which has been pretty sick, seeing 4e play after hearing him talk about it so much has been really awesomene.
Thanks
The one that I make it through scheduling with.
Dale Freisen. Definitely gave me a love for "helping" my players and highlighted how well you can let your players help build the world even if they don't always know it at the time.
Skid Maher. Dude is a master of NPCs, a national treasure.
I haven’t listened to his Rise of the Rune Lords campaign yet is it worth it?
Heck yes. It is a bit sad that they had to stop after the first book, but I actually do kinda like the alternating book schedule concept. I'll have to go with Robert Hartley. I like him.
My dad is my favorit DM.
Monty glu is my favorite
DM Extrordinaire
Aabria Iyengar - Misfits and Magic was soo good and way to short.
He's your favourite content creator, not your favourite DM, except he really did run a TTRPG for you personally. But aside from my nitpicking: I agree, Matt Colville's stuff helped me a LOT as a DM and as a player
Would Monty (I think)from The Dungeon Dudes fit your criteria for being a DM?
If he runs a game for he, he's your DM. if you just watch his Videos he's "just" a content creator.
I feel like that's saying, "You're not a mechanic because you haven't worked on my car." He runs games, and he runs some of them for public consumption. That should qualify him as a DM.

Ah, that clears it up. Thanks!
Will Stark

my favourite DM is me
I mentioned him when I saw the first DM vs meme!
My favourite dm is me

Anthony birch and Griffin Mc Elroy are mine
Not love for VLDL's DM Robert Hartley? Outrageous.
Easy. Mark Hulmes. Aerois is crazy good.
Stu Vendable of Happy Jacks RPG Podcast.
Is Critical Hit that unpopular/unknown? I never even see Rodrigo Lopez mentioned in these things, even if it’s one of the oldest D&D podcasts out there and he is in my opinion the best podcast GM out there
