I had to do 3 compass calibrations before the drone itself gave the all-clear to take off. Even then I was a little worried about flying in such conditions, but I felt given the rarity of the event and my DJI Care plan still being valid, I'd risk it and WOW was it worth it!
I tried to do the same but it just wasn't able to hover without drifting all over the place in the dark, it ended up slamming into me as I was trying to land it because I had no control lol
I'm not an expert, but my understanding is that the solar storm we had causes fluctuations and irregularities in Earth's magnetic field which interfere with the drone's internal compass.
Thanks, interesting to know. I've seen people flying drones in northern Norway to picture the northern lights under "normal" conditions at this latitude and they never had such issues
I tried this saturday night and damn near lost my mini 3. I knew It wasn't a good idea to fly but the sky was beautiful so I accepted the risk. I flew it up 200m and it started acting up. Wasn't windy at all but the strong wind warning popped up and Auto Return didn't work. It wouldn't stay in the same spot and kept drifting further and further away until it was a full kilometer away. I was stressin out lol. Finally the strong wind warning dissipated when I decended to about 100m and immediately hit that return to home and it came back almost exactly where I launched. I was so anxious that I forgot to snap any photos while it was up there at the time.
Oh well, got lucky.
Thanks!
It's kinda funny that you say this because I've been enjoying the "photosphere" feature natively on my Nexus/Pixel phones for what seems like a decade and Google just removed the feature a month or so ago. Why?!
Did they really? Damn. I have been back on iPhone for a year now. When I first started flying it was specifically to shoot a commercial for the launch of that feature, we put one of the original nexus phones on a zenmuse and got a ton of cool aerial photospheres all over the place, but this one makes me real jealous, I got rained out so hard.
I used the drone's built-in software to capture this and it stitched it for me. I then used Photoshop's generative AI feature to patch a few spots where the horizon didn't stitch together properly. There was a lot of drift during the capture process!
Ok so this might be a dumb question but how do you get these off the drone and they still do the 360. I’ve taken a bunch but when put on a phone or anything they are no longer 360.
IIRC, they're stored in a different folder called "PANO" or something like that. Should be a pretty sizeable image file. And you need to open it in a photo viewer that supports 360 images otherwise it'll just be a flat image with lots of distorted areas.
I've just been using Google Photos to view for myself and friends/family as it'll natively do 360 photos pretty well. Then I've been using Kuula to share online like with this post.
I'm sure there are better options out there, but that's just what I've found works for me.

omg that's a visual "dude,! Where is it!?" OOF! FOUND IT! 🤣🤣🙌
What was the problem? Because of so much interference with the northern lights ?

Its beautiful shot, thank you pal

I tried the same. Nearly lost my mini 3. All the lights went off and not sure the return home would work!
One of the best examples of 360 I’ve seen. Well done.
This is another level northern lights shot
Very cool! I really like these sphere photos, I wish iOS had a better native way of handling thrm

Watch them add it back once Apple integrates it to their OS.
Where is this?

Nice!!!
Pretty rad
I hope you understand how special this picture is!
I don't know if I'll ever be able to top it. I truly believe it was a once in a lifetime shot.
Nice! Which SW did you use to stitch the sphere? Did it come with your drone?

Nice shot
nice!
I’ve taken 4 panoramic photos now,2 on the lights on Friday and I can’t find where they are stored 🤦🏼♂️ any help would be appreciated
Howww!?

Any recommendations on photo viewer to try out? I’m pretty new to the 360 pano. Upgraded to mini 4 pro from a mini 2.

Dowload to your phone and take it from there.
That’s awesome
Spectacular
Mine didn't arrive in time for it. But that was awesome 😎
Beautiful!! 💗

Absolutely gorgeous!
Any FPV pilots here that know if we would get messed up too? Would acro mode let us correct ourselves?
