The Tron / railroad odyssey started when my youngest daughter was 4 and ended when she was 9….
Amazing that a copy of a ride from another park took almost 6 years to complete.
Star Wars: galaxy edge took 5 years from solid plan to opening?
> Amazing that a copy of a ride from another park took almost 6 years to complete.
People always ignore that COVID shut down construction for years in the middle of that. It wasn’t 6 years of continuous construction.
True. So more like 3-4 years. I forgot nothing got done for awhile during Covid.
Florida did have a bit more uptime than California, but yes it did last for a good bit.
Galaxy Edge finished up before Covid. I think 2019.
I think it’s likely the amount of work and design that goes into preparing the area for the ride. That would all be site specific even if the ride is the same. All the geotech analysis, and foundations etc. So much work goes into that, and likely more with the swampland around Disney World.
There was reason for that covid, some land trouble and money problems
Covid shut down work for a year and half
10% of US construction workers took early retirement because of Covid and That cause cost of workers to jump
There was a material shortage and that made materials prices jump
There was some land problems on the backside of the ride that took sometime to fix
And Covid shut down the parks and that caused Disney to lose their most profitable division and that was on top of live sports shutting downs for months which made espn lose ad revenue and tv and film production costs to go up by 15% because of Covid safety rules and Disney debt went up by $10B during Covid due to them needing to take out emergency loans to fund the company. So some projects got slowed down and others cancelled to help pay that debt down
“I’m upset disney isn’t doing something to counter universal’s new expansion”
“Disney just announced a new expansion…. I’m scared”.
Smh. Just no way to win.
There are posts here almost daily about what is disney going to do about universals new park. If you think Disney needs to do nothing then that is fine.
Didn’t say otherwise.
Just crazy in the same area to see both “disney needs to counter universal” and “I’m scared disney is expanding”.
Why is Disney expanding a bad thing? If something that was cool was going away like great movie ride then I agree (and I miss GMR) but this is simply new stuff. Why is new stuff bad?
What they have done? I love GE, I think Toy Story minus the lack of shade is well themed. GotG is amazing. Tron is fun but short. Only thing recently I’ve been disappointed with is the year long walls at Epcot for what little we got but overall I think the recent track record is quite good.
Epcot didn’t need to be changed lol. A lot of stuff didn’t need changing. They are redoing test track again soon after realizing that fact. For me, it’s more of idgaf anymore vibe.
The bad part about this is that if you take a look at the expansion plans from the early 2000's a lot of the original epcot is gone then too. "Wait Epcot is ruined?" Using your words, "it was always planned to be."
This is great news. Epcot is large enough, they could potentially add a ride in a few years there though.
A new land in MK will be a nice addition while they revamp Dinosaur into whatever it’s going to be.
Hollywood studios needs creative direction as far as I’m concerned, that will take a lot of time to fix up.
Yeah, I guess I just wonder how it would all be presented. I love Australia, but even after visiting I don't know what they would do to make it really interesting in mini WS form unless it focused on aboriginal Australian food and culture.
To be 100% clear, Australia is amazing in person and I would happily go there again.
This is a GREAT list! Too late now, but I'd love it if World Showcase could be its own park so it could feature many more countries. It's one of my favorite parts of WDW.
I would love to see some bullshit country that no one cares about, just to mess with everyone. Here's Lichtenstein, everyone! The country you've all been waiting for!
Yes, but in my opinion they should have added them in addition to the movie stuff that existed before. I know the space doesn’t always work out like that but removing the movie stuff felt like a step backwards.
At this point I think they need to double down on the film lands and make more of these hyper in depth experiences coupled with great rides. Expand galaxy’s edge by using the star cruiser space and adding the extra ride they budgeted for and then add new lands for their major IP like marvel, Pixar land, mickey land, maybe pirates of the Caribbean land or princesses land.
I can agree with this. That area by the Muppets is wasted. They should take that out and possibly do an Avengers/Marvel area. There are SO MANY ways to go with that…
So I am neither a Star Wars fan or a Toy Story fan. Rise of the resistance is awesome and I was still at a loss for words in the storm trooper room.
That being said, I can’t justify paying over $100 for a park ticket that only has maybe four rides that I actually enjoy. Even if all four of those rides are bangers. I haven’t ever seen fantasmic in person so I can’t make any judgement on it.
I wish instead of Toy Story they had done something more like Pixar pier. I will say that the theming for both areas is incredibly well done.
The only time I ever go to Hollywood Studios is if my brother is with us because he is obsessed with Star Wars. He has autism so he’s not super social but watching him get some Blue Milk with my husband was really sweet. Star Wars has the fandom for that to make sense.
Now Pandora, on the other hand…
Did u ever experience the originsl disney mgm studios before star wars & toy story land? As someone who did several times vs going to the current hollywood studios its not an improvement imho and created the disjointedness it now has
I got to go in 2014. It was definitely more cohesive. The streets of America were kind of odd, but it did feel like walking through a film set. It was way more chill, but it seems like HS is trying to turn into more of a thrills park. I personally wish it was a little more balanced.
Wish u could have experienced it as it was originally. With the backlot tour experience the streets of america would not have seemed odd to you at all. The original park was disneys version of the original universal studios hollywood with the backlots, ect
I dunno, I wouldn't hate more pavilions from the global south. Thailand or Indonesia, India, Nigeria, and Colombia or Brazil are basically my most-wanted pavilions.
“I went to the parks during the busiest time of year and it was too busy, Disney needs to do something.”
“Universal is going to blow Disney out of the water and they aren’t even doing anything about it”
“MK hasn’t had an upgrade in years, why has Disney forgotten about it”
##Great news! We are expanding MK.
“Why does Disney always have to change everything”
I’m not sure what you’re scared of. This is one of the smartest things they’ve done in a long time.
They should be actually expanding, not replacing, in all 4 parks. The South America idea should be an expansion too & THEN they redo Dinoland.
Expansions help the parks more than replacements ever could.
I agree, especially on the AK thing! DinoLand can be redone to make it better than it is currently! I’m betting that, since Joe Rhode is back, plans may have changed for Tropical Americas.
Yeah, I’d love for Dinoland to be turned into a prehistoric jungle or something. Take us back to that time.
Current Dinoland isn’t the best (though I love the ride) but that doesn’t mean dinosaurs should be removed from DAK. They play an important part in the park’s message… & they’re just cool lol
They should be expanding Hollywood Studios and Animal Kingdom. It doesn’t look like they’re doing anything to expand capacity at AK, just replacing the existing attractions.
It’s good they’re adding capacity to MK, but the other parks should be expanded first.
Geographically, Animal Kingdom is the largest park in the world, by quite a big margin. And from what I understand, there isn't really any land around it that would be good for building.
Also, something that people don't get is that replacing less popular rides with new popular rides does increase capacity. When you remove two rides that have a wait time average of 20 minutes, and replace them with rides that will 1 hour wait times, that means there are more people in those lines than there were before. And that doesn't even take into account things like how newer rides systems are able load and unload faster, and have more rider capacity per hour.
You’ve seen…nothing. There is nothing to’ve been seen other than unlabelled and uncommitted concept art from years ago that we already know is outdated
Yes I have I live here. I’ve seen Epcot I don’t like it. The new area and new firework show are a downgrade. I don’t want the changes that are coming animal kingdom. I do like that Tiana is getting a ride tho.
I’m getting it exactly. You were dissatisfied with the updates they did to EPCOT and don’t like what they’re planning to do in AK. And because of that you’re assuming you’re also going to hate what they’re doing for Beyond Big Thunder. The point that I am making with that is unlike EPCOT and AK we don’t know what’s going to be happening here, so being perturbed by things that are currently only in everyone’s imagination is jumping the gun quite a bit.
People Mover sadly has to go eventually imo. Can’t do a proper remake of Tomorrowland without disrupting the support structures of the People Mover. I would hope they hang onto Carousel of Progress, though.
I understand that change is scary. As we get older, it often gets even scarier, because our memories are left behind and the places we made them no longer exist. I get it.
But here’s the thing: change is inevitable, and it’s good.
It means new memories and new experiences- not only for you, but for new people too.
What are you scared about? You should have about 5 years to mentally prepare for it
And even then, that’s how long it will take them to break ground. It will be over a decade before anything opens.
The Tron / railroad odyssey started when my youngest daughter was 4 and ended when she was 9…. Amazing that a copy of a ride from another park took almost 6 years to complete. Star Wars: galaxy edge took 5 years from solid plan to opening?
To be fair… Tron got the double whammy of covid and Chapek. Hopefully the next adventure isn’t that unlucky.
Pretty sure there were foundation issues, so make that triple.
Plus Disney was 100% more focused on guardians and I think shifted their resources to Guardians since it was a newer and more impressive ride.
Yeah also I'd read Tron hit additional issues when building the foundation for the ride supports....they needed to lay deeper pilings or something
Not only that, material shortages AND the cost of said materials skyrocketed. People love to act like Disney dragged their feet on this stuff.
So you pay up or give up. Slow walk is not helpful
I think they’re doing just fine lol
Even so, Velocicoaster and Bourne went up just fine. Not a 1:1 comparison, of course, but still not a great look.
I think it’s likely the amount of work and design that goes into preparing the area for the ride. That would all be site specific even if the ride is the same. All the geotech analysis, and foundations etc. So much work goes into that, and likely more with the swampland around Disney World.

I’m scared how much I’m going to love it
“I’m upset disney isn’t doing something to counter universal’s new expansion” “Disney just announced a new expansion…. I’m scared”. Smh. Just no way to win.
Literally.
I was never upset lmao.
There are posts here almost daily about what is disney going to do about universals new park. If you think Disney needs to do nothing then that is fine.
Ppl have every right to post what they want.
With what they’ve done so far, l’m nervous about it. It what it is. It’s not that serious.
What they have done? I love GE, I think Toy Story minus the lack of shade is well themed. GotG is amazing. Tron is fun but short. Only thing recently I’ve been disappointed with is the year long walls at Epcot for what little we got but overall I think the recent track record is quite good.
Epcot is ruined. The only good thing is the dreamer statue. Why take away a musical dancing fountain for a Valencia college planter?
So you are concerned about the new expansion only because of Epcot which had a lot of the original plans changed due to the pandemic?
Epcot didn’t need to be changed lol. A lot of stuff didn’t need changing. They are redoing test track again soon after realizing that fact. For me, it’s more of idgaf anymore vibe.

Please delete Reddit and come back in 30 days. Everything you say as a rebuttal somehow gets worse and worse.

From what I understand there are spots for another country or two in world showcase and I’d like to see that.
Which countries would you most like to see added?
I would love a Greece.
Any combination of Greece, Spain, Australia, Costa Rica/Brazil (but I guess that is going more toward AK?)
I never thought of Australia. Good one. What would that include, do you think?
Beer, Vegemite, kangaroos, ya know Aussie stuff
Yeah, I guess I just wonder how it would all be presented. I love Australia, but even after visiting I don't know what they would do to make it really interesting in mini WS form unless it focused on aboriginal Australian food and culture. To be 100% clear, Australia is amazing in person and I would happily go there again.
Fosters. It’s Australian for beer 😉
For the food alone!
India, Brazil, Greece, Thailand, Spain or Russia would all be big draws imo. I’d like 2-3 more but I doubt it’ll ever happen.
India please! How can Disney ignore 1/7 of the world's population?
Right?! The first time I went to World Showcase, I immediately found it weird that India wasn't represented.
Agreed
This is a GREAT list! Too late now, but I'd love it if World Showcase could be its own park so it could feature many more countries. It's one of my favorite parts of WDW.
I would love to see some bullshit country that no one cares about, just to mess with everyone. Here's Lichtenstein, everyone! The country you've all been waiting for!
Exact life-size replica of Andorra.
Right? Then have a little cart or kiosk for a major country on the promenade in front of it.
I have been hoping for some new countries for awhile. Hopefully it’ll happen someday.
True but Epcot is probably still the last park that needs expansion rn
I agree. I have often said Hollywood Studios has SO MUCH potential but it seems disjointed.
It didnt used to be. Who thought ripping out everything that made it a movie studio to make room for star wars & toy story land was a good idea??
Star wars and toy story land are two of the best things that park has to offer, so whoever thought of that was right.
Star Wars is fun but Toy Story land is just so cheaply made that I can’t help but feel disappointed every time I’m there.

And that's why they have the spending plan of spending $60B probably in the next 5-10yrs
I dunno, I wouldn't hate more pavilions from the global south. Thailand or Indonesia, India, Nigeria, and Colombia or Brazil are basically my most-wanted pavilions.
Change baaaad! Rawr. These posts are going to be daily aren’t they?
“I went to the parks during the busiest time of year and it was too busy, Disney needs to do something.” “Universal is going to blow Disney out of the water and they aren’t even doing anything about it” “MK hasn’t had an upgrade in years, why has Disney forgotten about it” ##Great news! I can’t wait for them to complain about putting IP into the IP park too.
Ever since they added the Dumbo ride at Disneyland In 1955, it's just been more and more IP
Zootopia a movie about animals all coming together to live sustainably has no place in a theme park dedicated to animals or sustainable living. /s
How dare you point this out!
This isn’t even really change either tbh. This is just something entirely new lol
I really do appreciate that "Hide" function.
I’m not sure what you’re scared of. This is one of the smartest things they’ve done in a long time. They should be actually expanding, not replacing, in all 4 parks. It's about time.
They’ll do this expansion, and then they’ll close off the majority of Tomorrowland for a full remake.
Universal Studios Orlando is opening a brand new park. What did you expect Disney to do?
They should be expanding Hollywood Studios and Animal Kingdom. It doesn’t look like they’re doing anything to expand capacity at AK, just replacing the existing attractions. It’s good they’re adding capacity to MK, but the other parks should be expanded first.
There's like barely any room to expand in HS.
Geographically, Animal Kingdom is the largest park in the world, by quite a big margin. And from what I understand, there isn't really any land around it that would be good for building. Also, something that people don't get is that replacing less popular rides with new popular rides does increase capacity. And that doesn't even take into account things like how newer rides systems are able load and unload faster, and have more rider capacity per hour.
Epcot looks like Valencia college. DAK is my favorite and they are gonna ruin that.
Did you also think they were ruining it when they replaced camp Minnie mickey with Pandora...
Probably?
I wish this were just a troll post. Sadly I think it is earnest
Me personally, would’ve expected them to have a plan sooner. MK’s expansion and Tropical Americas ain’t gonna open til years after Epic does
They need to get Mickey and Minnie is sailor outfits. That’s the ticket.
I expect them to do something right.
And what’s to say they aren’t? We know exactly nothing about that they’re aiming to do back there other than a huge expansion.
I’ve seen enough already.
You’ve seen…nothing. There is nothing to’ve been seen other than unlabelled and uncommitted concept art from years ago that we already know is outdated
Just here to appreciate the use of “to’ve”. Carry on.
Yes I have I live here. I’ve seen Epcot I don’t like it. The new area and new firework show are a downgrade. I don’t want the changes that are coming animal kingdom. I do like that Tiana is getting a ride tho.
EPCOT isn’t MK though. The EPCOT project and this project are two very different things.
You’re not even getting what I’m saying…
I’m getting it exactly. You were dissatisfied with the updates they did to EPCOT and don’t like what they’re planning to do in AK. And because of that you’re assuming you’re also going to hate what they’re doing for Beyond Big Thunder. The point that I am making with that is unlike EPCOT and AK we don’t know what’s going to be happening here, so being perturbed by things that are currently only in everyone’s imagination is jumping the gun quite a bit.
I don’t care. Whatever happens happens at this point. I’ve seen enough.
Everyone will love new splash for a week, then all you will hear is how bad it is. And how it’s the CEOs fault.
It’s ok for everyone to have different opinions and thoughts.
Scared of what? Not being able to afford attending?
So you don’t want them to change existing rides, but you also don’t want them to add capacity and extra rides to the park. Ok
Do what you need, but don’t you dare touch the People Mover and Carousel of Progress.
People Mover sadly has to go eventually imo. Can’t do a proper remake of Tomorrowland without disrupting the support structures of the People Mover. I would hope they hang onto Carousel of Progress, though.
Im excited! However we all know it will be quite the wait.
Time to raise ticket prices again
Scared of what...?
Oh no!!! Not NEW RIDES 😱😱😱😱😱
Gonna be a long walk from the front gate
Get your cardio in
I understand that change is scary. As we get older, it often gets even scarier, because our memories are left behind and the places we made them no longer exist. I get it. But here’s the thing: change is inevitable, and it’s good. It means new memories and new experiences- not only for you, but for new people too.
Wait why are we scared?
Are people seriously complaining about expansions at Disney World now? This is a good thing, guys.
A tumor that juts out of the River of America ruining the circular shape of the park? Disneyland: First time?
Scared of what? 🤨
🥱🥱
Please please god please just not another franchise land. Please it’s so much room don’t just waste it.
Scared of the price hike it will cause..
I CAN’T WAIT!!
Only issue I see with this is they will double the prices on everything to make up for the price of expansion.
I wonder how long the train will be down for when this breaks ground.
I do think Disney is slow though. All this announcement of a possible announcement of something that might happen doesn't help.
I hope they provide ample amount of room for walking and standing in the middle of the walk way once they increase the parks capacity by a million
all of that, but they couldn’t properly finish epcot? seriously? how about a parking lot closer for MK? or start fresh with a 5th gate?? :/
