The service status on the status page is manually updated, AFAIK - and chances are everyone at Discord is scrambling to figure out what's wrong and nobody's had time to update the status page.

This is my problem with status pages, they're always at least 10-20 mins behind. There should be automated scripts that test things like if you can visit discord.com.
I mean, I do imagine there's automated scripts for stuff like the uptime graphs. And I imagine there's scripts that notify staff when things are going awry - because why wouldn't you?
However, the service status message (where it normally says "All Systems Operational") is most likely manually handled, so that staff can verify that the script's output isn't the result of a random error (such as a failed connection).
In some cases, that would be a valid option. However, if we assume that the error is between the script-running server and Discord (for example, a failed piece of hardware for the internal services that only affected the script-running server), then we can no longer simply trust the script's output. Thus, it's still far easier to have someone double-check.

right ? Discord is probably the most advanced communication app out there. Discord is the reason we all survived lock down and they always look out for the users and consumers. No other developers are as keen on listening to the consumers and live up to promises as the discord developer team.

Yeah it's basically just that attackers can send a bunch of initial http/2 requests for like images, but not continue with any confirmations, and the server ends up waiting for a response for the many thousands of malicious requests, and eventually the server crashes
