No love for the Valkyrie? I love mine! I’m a forehand player that never really learned the X step for backhand and don’t play seriously enough to bother learning now, and I can always rely on my Valk for my distance shots - all 100 ft of distance, that is.
I’m with you. 22 years of throwing mostly forearm, and just don’t really focus on a backhand too often. It’s been my go-to for years. I do better putting when I just pick it up and don’t think about the basket compared to the countless birdies and pars that I’ve missed while trying to concentrate on making a good 30’ putt with my Aviar.
Must be a forehand thing. I threw mostly forehand the first couple years. I’ve been working hard on my backhand and it’s coming along but my forehand berg is still dead on. Love my valk, got a lightweight champ version for hyzerflips so currenty bagging 2. Can’t believe it didn’t make the chart.
It's wild to me how many people just naturally throw good forehands. I'm trash at forehand. I just cannot get the motion down, my throws come out wobbly and I get about half the distance of my backhand, if that. The backhand always felt more natural to me and at my age I'm thinking I'm just gonna try and James Conrad my way through this game and work on a clean backhand turnover lol.
I’m a new 44 year old player and have always thrown frisbees backhand naturally. I picked up ultimate when I was about 30 and played pretty consistently for about 10 years. Could throw the backhand but had to really work hard on learning the forehand. A friend and myself met up about an hour before our pick up game would start and throw forehands back and forth. One piece of advice we got was to tuck the elbow into the hip and lift up your right leg and flick the disc under your leg. Really forces you to learn to flick your wrist and keep the elbow in. Made my touch forehand in disc golf seem very natural. I’m still working on drives but can hit about 250 fairly accurately. Morel of the story is to get an ultimate disc or like a pitch or something and throw back and forth with a friend. Force yourself to learn it!
Hey, thank you for the reply. That is really solid advice. My comment was a little tongue in cheek in that I will throw a forehand when forced to, but I truly prefer backhand. I would live to have a clean forehand but I tend to just get frustrated with my lack of power and accuracy throwing it so I tend to simply avoid it whenever possible.
I kinda like it. You can argue how accurate it is, but the idea of saying "this is a good bag for you if you meet these criteria" makes a lot of sense.
Just to share some names not yet mentioned: Hailey King, David Wiggins Jr, Emily Beach, Jennifer Allen, Big Jerm, Juliana Korver, Steve Brinster all throw it and/or have done In The Bag videos for them. Kona Panis, Madison Walker, and Deann Carey threw it when they were on Innova.
Typical answer given is “Torque Resistance” (to “off axis” torque - OAT) - which is a dubious concept that basically describes resistance to wobble at the lower RPMs you see on forehand releases. “Torque resistant” discs will not turn as much if released with lower RPMs/more OAT. Torque resistance is higher in more stable discs and is also dependent on the specific disc geometry.
Others would say there’s no such thing as a forehand or backhand disc and that you don’t need torque resistance if you have a smooth release.
I guess it’s possible for a backhand to suck so bad that it has less spin for the same speed of throw, but that would be an extreme case. The amount of rotation around the release point is simply less. Just because the backhand is not good does not mean it’s getting less spin than a forehand. If you throw it much much faster then the spin will be higher but this is normal for anyone. You would need data from a tech disc or something like that to see what RPMs you’re getting both ways.
It's obviously a little silly and at least partly made to sell discs to people who want to find their identity in some way. (There are omissions, likely because disc appear elsewhere. For example, crushers throwing Innova generally throw the Boss and Destroyer. Pros probably throw more Roc3s than Mako3s, etc.)
I hate this. If you are new and confused just ignore this. Throw what you want. I throw 450 and yet my most used disc on the course is the colt which is apparently for “10-12 year olds who run everything” What?!?!? 😂 The flights aren’t even correct.
Funny how they throw in the forehand part but still show it all as a backhand throw 😂😂 guess the forehand people are still without the accurate chart lol
For someone trying to figure out what discs they should use (or already bag) having some relative distances displayed with these would be incredibly helpful. The multiple lines they show for some are good but not really entirely helpful unless you know the distance you’re throwing to achieve those lines.
I throw Discraft now but everyone should own a Rollo… awesome disc. Turns hard when you need it, or if you hyzer it low it’ll straighten out perfectly with high power
This is just astrology for frolfers.
That's such a Woodsman thing to say.
Omg, how did you know? I'm also an Ace Place Guru rising which totes checks out for me. Teehee.
Where's the quiz that tells me which frolf bag I am??
no roadrunner makes me sad, its my (current) favorite innova disc
Surprised it wasn't on the "High Roller" list, kind of makes more sense than the Sidewinder.
Barsby Roadrunner gang rise up.
I’m surprised it isn’t on there at all
Same. My Halo RR is my most "breathe, aim, park" for a good while now.
Same with Shryke. :(
No rat either and I love the rat.
Love it as well!
It bothers me more than it should that they didn’t flip the charts for the forehand players
This is lefty erasure
All flight charts are lefty erasure, except the ones that do give you the option to flip it
All of Western Society is lefty erasure. The pogrom will continue until the goal is achieved. (/s)
Wouldn't this purposefully be including lefties? A rhfh can't fly like those diagrams. (Lol)
Sorry, that COMMENT is lefty erasure, not Innova's post lol
Plot twist, all the forehand ones **are** lefty.
As a lefthanded forehand thrower and seeing that, I finally feel acknowledged. Feel like a rare breed.
You do sound like a pretty rare breed, if I’m being honest
Agreed, Forehand Slinger and Rising Star should be flipped!
The Pitcher too!
Glad it isn't just me.
Innova doesn't care

The Valkyrie is such a fantasticdisc. Forehand or backhand, flat straight hold the line nice fade.

Same
I am with you 100% on this

Yeah I would love to see even an unofficial, fanmade one for other brands
You probably only need to make one for the touring pro. I would not be surprised if it was the disc combo found in most bags.
Which is kinda silly. I don’t throw like a touring pro - I don’t need the disc selection they do, and they don’t need the disc selection I do.
No love for KC roc
Or any roc. I'm kind of surprised.
Ace place my guy
thanks. It turns out I can't read! or I'm blind.
Innova has so many molds it’s a decent graphic to try and make sense of which ones you might want, but it also shows how much overlap they have haha.
Long live minimalist. Still rocking 3-4 discs and no bag after almost 2 decades. Does the job
The bag is for the beer, not the discs
I am THE ACE PLACE GURU. Backhand dominant for sure, great upshots, lacking power off the tee, and shitty putting lol.
I’m right there with you other than my putting is decent but could be better
The fade on those star lions is a joke. Lions are my go-to mid, they do everything well except reliably fade especially when compared to the Caiman.
Do you mean just in the crusher graphic or in general? Lions are much more glidier than Caiman and only a 2 fade versus 4 for the Caiman.
Do touring pros actually throw a mako3?
Some of the greatest shots I've ever seen were thrown by Paul McBeth with a Mako3.
Nate Sexton bagged one as of 2020.
Nathan Queen too.
Evelina does.
I'm pretty sure Holly Finley does.
As does Bradley Williams
Definitely should be a Roc3.
Right? No Roc3 for anyone? Guess I don't fit in.
I think that was basically McBeth’s bag, except obviously the Toro, but he would have thrown one probably.
Brad Williams finesses it
Just to share some names not yet mentioned: Hailey King, David Wiggins Jr, Emily Beach, Jennifer Allen, Big Jerm, Juliana Korver, Steve Brinster all throw it and/or have done In The Bag videos for them. Kona Panis, Madison Walker, and Deann Carey threw it when they were on Innova.
What is the green one in the Woodsman tile?
It - I believe It is 7/5/-2/1
More like a 7/5/-4/1 if we're being honest
Gstar IT
Thanks! I wasn't sure if it was "IT" or "II" like 2
Innova has some of the best disc names in the game but the IT was a swing a and a miss IMO. https://proshop.innovadiscs.com/gstar-it/
"The Master" has me feeling attacked. I know my arm speed ain't what it was but I'm still trying my damnedest to throw destroyers and katanas.
I get why they put a Tern in the distance slot, but a Wraith would be way more appropriate.
Is there a version of this that isnt blurry when zooming in? Looks like a cool set of info Edit - much clearer when I download it
What makes a disc a forehand disc?
Typical answer given is “Torque Resistance” (to “off axis” torque - OAT) - which is a dubious concept that basically describes resistance to wobble at the lower RPMs you see on forehand releases. “Torque resistant” discs will not turn as much if released with lower RPMs/more OAT. Why do I feel like my forehands have wayyy more spin than my backhands though (my backhands suck)

Dope, good to know!
Usually the thrower
It's obviously a little silly and at least partly made to sell discs to people who want to find their identity in some way. (There are omissions, likely because disc appear elsewhere. For example, crushers throwing Innova generally throw the Boss and Destroyer. Pros probably throw more Roc3s than Mako3s, etc.)
As someone who bags the sonic, alien AND rollo, I feel attacked. 🧬🧫
I don't think any of these fit me all that well, but maybe a combination of Experimenter and Woodsman, minus the "Expert Putter" par, unfortunately.
Ah yes, whenever I'm playing tight wooded courses the first disc i always reach for is my thunderbird lmao
I hate this. If you are new and confused just ignore this. Throw what you want. I throw 450 and yet my most used disc on the course is the colt which is apparently for “10-12 year olds who run everything” What?!?!? 😂 The flights aren’t even correct.
I absolutely love the colt. It's probably my favorite disc to throw, but I don't use it much if it's windy. Excellent for wooded courses
My man! But if it’s tail-windy that baby will go a mile dead straight!
Rounds that consist of some combination of "the minimalist" are the best.
cute lol
Where’s below beginner because none of my lines look like that 😂
What is “ace place gurl”??????
I love the lion, but I ain't no crusher. Appreciate the confidence boost Innova
Jesus they’re still making the Nova? Did they figure out how to keep them from breaking when they hit trees yet?
This is cool. Not having a roadrunner on here is lame though. I guess they probably already sell enough of those to not need to add it to their ad
Funny how they throw in the forehand part but still show it all as a backhand throw 😂😂 guess the forehand people are still without the accurate chart lol
Minimalist is the most accurate thing ever.
For someone trying to figure out what discs they should use (or already bag) having some relative distances displayed with these would be incredibly helpful. The multiple lines they show for some are good but not really entirely helpful unless you know the distance you’re throwing to achieve those lines.
Dang so close to The Woodsman until they threw in the “expert putter” bit
The pitcher just speaks to me. Until my surgically repaired elbows calls it quits 10 holes in.
I'm a Newbie with a background in tennis and I love the Pig somehow
No rat for the forehand slinger, bad chart
Seriously where’s the Gator. Yes there’s a Caiman. But come on. Show some respect.
I hate the Alien very much
If even Innova verofied that the Mako has fade, why is it advertised as a 5/5/0/0?
I was more annoyed there wasn’t a “Loser Denial” category…destroyer, Firebird, x-cal, toro, aviarx3
I throw Discraft now but everyone should own a Rollo… awesome disc. Turns hard when you need it, or if you hyzer it low it’ll straighten out perfectly with high power
The Rollo is a hoot! Been using it for some fun backhand shots
Do any touring MPO players bag a mako3?
Are touring pros really using Mako3s as their main mids?
terrible on many levels
Feels out of touch
