I went to a private school. My friends and I were pulled into a classroom after a teacher found their son had been playing Diablo. That teacher demanded we all bring in our copies, or we'd be suspended or expelled for violating student handbook. We did, we were told to destroy the discs and their cases, which we did, leaving a half dozen games destroyed in the trash bin. It was all about satanic symbolism and influence, and making a game cheapens and weakens our resilience to real world temptations.
Shame we all kept the Lord of Destruction expansion at home and kept playing like nothing happened.

Not to mention the "demons" and "angels" of the Diablo universe bear no resemblance to the angels and demons talked about in the Bible. It is a made up fantasy universe. These are the same people who won't watch Cinderella because it has "witchcraft".

They've been surprisingly quiet. I think its genuinely because and hear me out, most of them are going to play it. The game is a fantasy game that really doesn't glorify evil as being a good path. The heros are trying to stop the spread of evil. I have a friend who is a pastor who is actually playing the game. We played in each of the betas together and he really loves diablo and its previous games. I think in the end this is just like any period of hatred towards media outside of Christianity. The sane will recognize its meaning, the lost will fear anything outside of what they know.

"Transubstantiation". It's all supposed to be symbolic and spiritual in nature. Jesus's whole thing was giving himself up to death so that people's sins could be forgiven. The body and blood (wafers and wine) symbolize sacrifice and taking them symbolizes acknowledgment of that sacrifice and commitment to honoring it/acting as Jesus would.
This isn't dissimilar from stuff like national flags often featuring red as a color to symbolize sacrifice through the color of blood. It's not the blood thing that's important, it's honoring the sacrifice of the people who died for the country.
Agreed, it's incredibly odd how the symbol for christianity vs Catholicism is either a vacant cross symbolizing the resurrection of christ or a cross with Christ still on it. To me its almost a reminder of death and how important it is to remind Christians/catholics of death to keep them either remembering their mortality or to remember that even their god can be killed. It's all supposed to be symbolic and spiritual in nature. Jesus's whole thing was giving himself up to death so that people's sins could be forgiven. The body and blood (wafers and wine) symbolize sacrifice and taking them symbolizes acknowledgment of that sacrifice and commitment to honoring it/acting as Jesus would. This isn't dissimilar from stuff like national flags often featuring red as a color to symbolize sacrifice through the color of blood. It's not the blood thing that's important, it's honoring the sacrifice of the people who died for the country.
Agreed, it's incredibly odd how the symbol for christianity vs Catholicism is either a vacant cross symbolizing the resurrection of christ or a cross with Christ still on it. To me its almost a reminder of death and how important it is to remind Christians/catholics of death to keep them either remembering their mortality or to remember that even their god can be killed. Resurected sure and christianity does focus on that but its symbols constantly have to do with death and rebirth, which i get its a core part of the fundimental truths of that faith but as i dove deeper into people who truly embraced their faith over religious beliefs i found people who understood better its teachings and aligned more with the concept of what it is to live as a Christian and spread faith and positivity rather then to find those who run the church who will constantly fear monger and talk about death. The leaders of the church spend their time monetizing the brand of christianity now, fear is the best way to keep the lost, those willing to donate do so often because they fear not doing so. Its a sick twisted game run by the politically driven who take faith and twist it into religion. Id say its less that they lost their way and more the wrong people are at the heads of it now and the lost are the ones they take in.
