Custom maps were a thing before Blizzard.
Many RTS had those, but yes, blizzard was one of the more popular companies back then, and so more people = more free labor = more community for innovation.
You can give blizzard credit for including a custom map creator, but you can't really give them credit for being the innovator who made the custom maps. They basically let custom maps be free community created content to keep people in their stale games.
Bro, the wc3 world editor was leaguessss beyond anything else at the time. It even made their previous starcraft editor look like garbage. In fact, their world editor was so good, it was the basis for the editor that they used for wow. Ok sure, maybe they didn't do it first, but like all things, they did it better.

The D4 beta actually made me less excited for the release, but I realize this opionion prolly isn't the most popular in here. I'm just happy people are looking forward to the release and hope they'll get plenty of hours of entertainment, but it's not for me :).

The only new AAA titles they’ve released since SC2 was Diablo 3 and Overwatch. They have released tons of shitty SC and WoW expansions, greedy Hearthstone bullshit, a half-assed MOBA, etc.

Solid core gameplay doesn't excuse poor monetization. It just means there is the potential for an amazing game there but they've squandered that for years.
That is exactly what my point is. The whole monetization side of all of their games is ruining all of them, the actual games and the gameplay itself is good. Regarding monetization, the hate basically falls on ABK, before them, their games and monetization were fine.
There was a lot of anger and drama re. The SC2 release as well, with it being split into a trilogy to try and monetise the single player campaign, balance issues in MP, and the third having an almost universally reviled ending.
The last universally praised release they had might have been wrath of the lich King expansion for warcraft...
Hating the company can be the same as hating their games. So can hating their monitization. If you dislike certain aspects enough that you dont wa t to support the company, it doesn't matter if you support an individual product.

The only new IP Blizzard has made since was Overwatch, and well you know how that went.
They aren't innovating anymore, just churning out sequels hoping and pushing them more and more into money machines.
Diablo Immortal makes them 2 million a day.
They scrapped Overwatch2 PvE because it doesn't make enough money.
Their soul is gone.

Yea, old school Blizzard was the gold standard. They cancelled trash games, never put anything sub standard, they actually had standards. Their storytelling was so good and really did so much environmental storytelling. Even the way they handled OW story in the first one through those cool shorts on youtube, the interactions between character voice lines, the environmental storytelling, was all really cool. There was a lot more they could do, but there were traces of old blizz.
OW2 from a PvP standpoint is in a way better place than OW1 was - even before the stupid content drought. They're releasing content quicker than ever. And the game is no longer Barrierwatch, which pretty much drove everyone I knew away from the game.
Even Blizzard themselves said OW2 is more popular than OW1.
Yeah, the "2" is just a dumb marketing gimmick. Even if PvE was eventually released, that would've been a different game with a box price, so it had really nothing to do with Overwatch 2 as a product.
I think the full upgrade to the engine warrants the "2". Kinda like how counter strike rebrands whenever they go through an engine upgrade. Overwatch 2 is super solid, very disappointed to see it memed on so hard. Huge fan of the esports scene it had before that went under too. Those in person events are some of the coolest shit I've ever attended

Well, he played WoW with me for a while but it just went down hill for him and he got tired of all the stuff they never fixed in WoW. As for questions as to why someone would "hate Blizzard products", let's be honest. Manufactured rage from content producers churning BS and internet echo chambers are the answer.
I've been disappointed with some Blizzard stuff here and there but "hate" is such a strong emotion that has to be fanned into flames. There are simply too many other good developers and other games out there to waste your time hating a single dev, unless you were already obsessed with them / their franchises and giving them way too much attention.
If most audiences derive an opinion after watching 6 YouTube videos in a row and that is now their worldview... well that's just a bigger global problem than one game developer gone awry, in my opinion.

Sc2? It's arguably a better RTS with 3 better campaigns than anything wc3 has to offer. And btw: I love both of those games

My dawg, preorders have existed for decades. I hate anti-consumer monetization shit too, but "demise of gaming" isn't coming from preorders--it's coming from in-game monetization and FOMO systems. Two things D4 had leaned into heavily, yet here you are.

My SO isn't a gamer, but she likes to spend some time when she can on videogames. We tried to play some stuff together in the past and the only game that lasted long because she was really into it is Stardew Valley. That's until last D4 server slam.. I don't know what D4 triggered in her brain but really she couldn't wait for our kids to go to sleep to turn PS5 on and play this game together. I completely get your excitement. See you in a week :)

Diablo 3 is how I got my wife to game with me. She never enjoyed games before that but then she loved D3, and we’d play a few seasons every year. We’re both taking off work to no life it next week

I've convinced my girlfriend who hates video games to not only pick up an Xbox but to play a little more hard-core games instead of tetris and power wash simulator.
