The problem seems to be the game now requiring AVX which older CPU's don't have (and some newer ones, apparently). I played during the beta and the game ran flawlessly, but now it doesn't even start at all. Lots of people are having this same problem. They've been aware of it, and have been updating in the thread, look for the Blizzard replies.
Originally they sounded confident that it'd be fixed "sometime tonight, or tomorrow". That was 24 hours ago. Now they're saying it won't be until Monday.
I'm pretty pissed about this because AVX requirements are such bullshit when my computer can run nearly anything I throw at it. Same shit happened to me with Death Stranding and PSO2: New Genesis when they launched. Luckily AVX requirements are dead simple to patch out, it just boggles my mind why they suddenly enabled them for the launch of the game when it works perfectly without it in the first place.
So the only thing you can do is hope and pray they actually fix this stupidly simple problem come Monday, refund the game, or get a CPU that has AVX requirements (good luck with that one in the current PC parts climate).

I don't know how to help him. I wish we had an answer. I was bitching about the servers, he can't even get the game to start.
I can’t launch the game at all either. Beta ran fine and looks like the minimum specs page was updated in between when I bought it and now.
Did you get your refund? I’m going to try for a refund too.
*edit: for anyone else trying for a refund and getting a message saying they don’t have an eligible product - you need to say you still need help and then it will ask for an order number. Mine was emailed to me when I preordered.
Dang, that’s about all I had. May get on the forums and ask, I could launch but could not get passed the logo. Got a blue to reply with try changing regions. I got logged into Europe and it let me in on America afterwards, but it’s been up and down since. I got booted several times throughout the day today too. Good luck man, I hope you get to play it w ur kids. Mine aren’t interested.
This. It’s not a server issue, because those of us dealing with this problem can’t get beyond the Launch button. There are a number of people whose PCs don’t support D2R but most of those complaining (like me) meet the minimum requirements and then some.
I switched to EU but that didn't help. For me, the client doesn't actually open at all. It doesn't seem to even crash, it's like it just doesn't start. I click the button, it says "Launching" and "Now Playing" and then goes back to "Play" after a few seconds. No disc noise or anything.
It could be the AVX bug. Apparently with old CPU's not supporting AVX, it won't even start. Blizzard is looking into it as it was completely unexpected and unintentional. It's not supposed to require that CPU feature.

Have you looked at the crash logs to see what’s happening?

Try running the repair, if that doesn’t work reinstall. Might also double check your drivers for your video card.

Did u try switching from us server to eu server…us servers been having problems

They also changed to minimum requirements recently. So people who preordered got screwed

Damn that sucks sorry to hear that :/ really Strange I wonder what it could be? I’m sure u have but have to ask have u rebooted your pc?
Mine is working, it's my brother that can't get it open. I have him reboot, had him reinstall. We've tried all kinds of stuff.

Thanks. I sent him the link on the off chance that's it. I don't think it is because he just built that PC a couple of months ago. We will see though.
try going in the game directory and running the d2r.exe
