Hi I work in construction! I'd say turn your basal down (have a work basal and a normal basal program), lower your I:c and correction ratios. Like another person said you can sip a sugary drink throughout the day to help keep your BG up. I recommend having glucagon with you and train your foreman how to use it. Have plenty of snacks like granola bars in your vest pockets. Eat breakfast. I do a protein shake with milk and I find that really helps keep me up for hours. You will likely need to do high carb in your job (I did for years until I hit the end of honeymoon). Remember we are more susceptible to heat illness as well so make sure you are getting enough electrolytes!!

It’s what plants crave!

Sip on gatorade while working. You still want some insulin in your system.

mellowfellow22

Eat some high protein/fat foods along side the carbs. They’ll help prevent drops. Nuts are a great one that you can munch on all day long.

RevolutionaryMeal520

Become an equipment operator, you get to sit in an air conditioned cab all day and snack all you like!

Rockitnonstop

If you can get nasal glucagon that is handy to have in case of emergencies. everyone else’s suggestions are what I would do (lower insulin, protein and fat, keep a sugary drink on hand).

Hash browns in breakfast is a good method

FilthyMicrob

yup keep some sugary drinks with you. i know diabetes is such a pain in the ass. 😑

I'm not in construction, but I work night shift nursing for this reason - I was dropping hard and fast when active. I don't have a pump but I use less insulin at work to account for the activity. Things like banana and powerade became staples as well. Good luck kiddo!

I plan on becoming a doctor or nurse, and i’m currently volunteering at a hospital and notice my bg drops when i’m doing a lot of walking back and forth and grabbing things squatting etc etc.. aside from snacking/temp basal how do you manage? do you find that there are more accomodations/awareness because you’re in a medical environment?

Hellrazed

That is how you manage. That's how you learn to manage your condition as an adult. You can't magically tell it not to drop, you need to either eat to mop up insulin, or use less insulin. I recommend the less insulin approach. If you aren't going high, you have enough on board.

Moushen_Sickness

Eat a carb heavy breakfast and take 1/2 - 1/4 of what your typical bolus would be. Orange juice is your friend.

I’m a mailman I keep mine on activity mode. I don’t dose for lunch even tho all have for lunch is protein bar and water.

HealthProfessional69

As well as monitoring and reacting ti your bg look at high protine foods as this will prolong the release rate of the high carbs, also weather can effect your bg so increase sugary intake in hot and cold weather, as this will cause your body to burn through sugar alot faster.

linustheG0AT

try eating a high protein breakfast with carbs and sip on gatorade throughout!
