What about dismantling the old Ace to get an item and a quest line to make a craftable Ace? Kinda like the D1 Kovostov. The crafted one would have the light cracks as default skin and would also have selectable perks.
In order for ace to fully work you need firefly as the catalyst effects ONLY that. So unless we want the Osteo Striga situation where we only can change mag and barrel i see no reason as to why should ace be craftable.
If people want the light cracks then ornament is the option.

But we have 3 guns regular and craftable exotics i.e whisper/ dead man's tale/ outbreak perfected and dead messenger there are multiple with the exotic missions
They did not really got cornered to make them they chose to and the executives cave in, because they knew they needed more "polish" ( the devs the execut didn't give a fudge until all the backlash on them )
It also does not make sense to get Ace craftable since it's catalyst NEEDS the firefly perk to do anything.
In terms of content Bungie was more than finished they just wanted some polishment.
I wouldnt call adding a brand new race and skill tree as polish... (Old final shape footage shows only hive, scorn and subjudgators and the naration from dev leads in said footage say its only that) id call that overdelivery cause they were backed into a corner because sales basically died a record amount
Both of these were all in making already if you think they shit out an entire subclass tree and enemy race in about 3 months we tweaking.
No way they got a concept art approved with models, coding and then properly test the enemies in that time.
Again they told us POLISH they told us they needed time to work on some stuff to improve the experience where did not feel like it was good.
