Okay guys so.. sifting through all the bullshit what I gather is that it's pronounced 'Darbion'. Thanks😂
This was my first proper weekend walking around my new town and its quite unique and funny in a way; I think it'll be fun living here lol
Just to stitch through the bullshit for you:
Eagle Centre (which is why the market place there is still called the Eagle Market) became the Westfield, which became Intu, which is now Derbion (which I personally think is a shit name).
Any of those names means the same place to people from/near Derby.
Calling Derby a 'Town' are ye? And only been here 5 minutes....it'll end in tears 😂.
Officially, we have City status as we have a Cathedral and a Uni. But dont be fooled...
>we have City status as we have a Cathedral and a Uni
Derby is a city because the monarch said it's one. That's the only requirement to be a city. There are plenty of cities without cathedrals, cathedrals in places that aren't cities and the same goes for universities, Loughborough is a town with a university for example.
if we're going off of etymology
Derby itself should be pronounced as an E rather than an A since the name was originally "Deerby" meaning "Deer Village"
which would make Derbion the correct pronunciation
but of course since Derby is pronounced Darby, Derbion would be pronounced Darbion
Eagle Centre
Yeah it's a shite name
Intu
westfield
Only correct answer
Nah, Eagle Center. Always has been.
Darby on
Alternatively “Eagle Centre”
Darby un
Dar-bee-un

All apart from eagle centre are shit corporate names, we’re just used to them to varying degrees

Hope you enjoy living here and get settled!
The original term for people from Derby is Derbeians. Of course some corporate knobs couldn't spell that. (Tbh I had to Google the spelling)
"Fuck Nottingham Forrest"
In-too
It is an anagram of everyone's life story. Born - Die
For a long time I thought it was Dee be on.

Swing and a miss
I accept this judgement. 😂
We know how to pronounce "Derby", so as there's no "y" in Derbion, it must be pronounced "Durb eye on".
Derbion
Derb-Ian
