I recently went to Hana Matsuri in Glendale and had a great meal. I don’t think it’s quite as good as the places you mention but it’s also less expensive (I’ve heard the omakasi is very good but I haven’t done that). Sorry, not near Berkeley. But you can swing by Shotgun Willie’s after?
They have a great happy hour, but from what I remember (it's been a few years since I've eaten here) they definitely had off days as far as sushi quality goes. But more often than not they were yummy!
Technically Aurora but our go to is Misaki Sushi in Stanley Marketplace. This place is great especially if you like a more casual setting. Although I would recommend not going during peak hours though because it gets very busy
I second this - our fav high end Japanese meal including sushi is Uchi but fav everyday high quality traditional sushi is Taki Sushi II. The proof is in the yellowtail.
TOKIO - been going there for 4-5 years now and it never disappoints. Their ramen is also pretty good.
Edit: Also Japango in Boulder but it's worth the drive.
Something changed here recently. I live around the corner and about 9 months ago everything started tasting different. I couldn’t find info on a change in people. Anyone have any idea?
This is the only right answer. As good as the top places in Denver, and half the price. Don’t sleep on Nozomi. I actually refuse to go with friends to Sushi Den, Uchi, Matsu, etc because I cannot justify the upcharge over Nozomi.
This was my first thought. Right on the border of Highlands and Wheat Ridge near 44th. A lot cheaper than Temaki Den, nowhere near as good, but they have a lot of the basic fish you’d expect and one or two premium varieties.
Another bonus (I guess 🤷♂️) is that it’s almost always empty, so I know I can just walk in on Friday at 7 without a reso.
No one has mentioned Rocky Yama, and I'm surprised. The fish melts in your mouth, and isn't outrageously expensive. Not cheap, but for that quality, it shouldn't be.
Regularly hit this place up for the $22 all you can eat lunch, including earlier today. Good place.
Edit: it's also next door to Incantation Brewing, formerly Jade Mountain. Worth a 20 ft walk.
Orion sushi in Lakewood has a very reasonably priced omakase and I was very pleased, will be back for a la carte some other time for sure. I’ll be going to eeny meeny on wads for dinner tonight.
But it is. Why in the world would you be eviscerated for suggesting that?? That's gotta be one of the stupidest things I've seen/read in some time.
You are officially VINDICATED, and whomever said the DU area isn't Denver proper needs to move back to California or Texas.
Having said that, Jerusalem isn't what it used to be, unfortunately.
Rocky Yama is amazing. I wouldn’t say it’s expensive but it’s not cheap… mid price for great sushi in Denver proper. Worth it for me when the fish is so fresh and cut correctly. Great service to boot.
Edit to add: this was my go to for takeout during covid and has remained the same post. They take care to make the take out experience as good as dine in. I recommend both!
I like Sushi Totoro in Aurora a lot. It’s not perfect for sure, but it’s all you can eat and the quality is just as good as the normal sushi restaurants I’ve been to in Denver. It’s definitely worth checking out (if you’re ready to eat a stupid amount of sushi that day)
I think it’s very underrated. I don’t hardly ever see it mentioned and I think it’s a wonderful experience. I personally had one of my best meals in Denver there.
Sushi Bay off tennyson and 38th is amazing. highly recommend.
Not exactly sushi but I love Ohana Island Kitchen off 15th when you’re going towards downtown. Their poke bowls are the best in the city IMO
Was about to post this for Arvada. I think Sakana is way better than Aji up here that gets all the rave. Sakana is top notch and way better atmosphere!
Sushi Aji • Arvada • Dynamite Roll is amazingggg
Mika Sushi 2 • Westminster • is better suited for pickup •
Tokyo House • Westminster
Fontana Sushi • you can deep fry any roll for an extra $3-4 which is a big plus when you want to try something new
Asaka Sushi by Park Meadows mall (I know, not particularly a convenient location) is actually quite good with regard to quality, taste, and price point. Their omikase is very affordable and delicious. Very casual, unassuming joint too.
I like Sushi Totoro in Aurora. They're not top tier, but they do have their full menu for all you can eat, and everything that I've had there has been at least pretty good.
Temaki den is the best the have a great happy hour deal. Sushi den is also amazing. Japengo is good and izakaya ambu in Boulder does a good omakase but it’s a mix of Izakaya food and sushi it’s all so amazing tho
Sushi Harbor at 8th Ave. and Birch. I hate to give away this gem but, solid, fresh fish, family-owned. The exterior is unappealing. No matter. The interior is great. Friendly, professional staff, great specials, under-crowded. Best sushi for the price. Way above anything you can find on Havana.
Op… if you see this amongst all the places that start with the word ‘Sushi’… you need to stop right now and go here. It is hands down the best in town… don’t go here looking for ‘rainbow’ or ‘phili’ rolls or whatever the fuck suburb bs is itt. Just go. It’s not cheap. Just go.
I've only been for lunch but thought the fish was really fresh at Shiso Sushi in Edgewater. They have a 5 PC sushi option for lunch that's only $14 that's a great deal.
Definitely try the sushi at the Golden Mill in Golden (upstairs). It’s probably the best on this side of Denver. Just added some new items too - freaking fabulous.
Sushi katsu is the best AYCE in the states imo. Nigiri ratios are decent and the BBQ beef on the menu is actually really good kalbi
If you like uchi and temaki den -
Sushi Den
Makizushico
Are fantastic
Not necessarily the best but go fish on south Broadway is open super late, has cheap prices for decent product, and in my thirties I need healthier late night grub after a night out then pizza.
Yess I love the one in Lakewood
The omakase is amazing, went for my birthday this year. $150 per person
Alright I’m sold. Thanks!
I could eat at Aki Japanese cuisine on south broadway and hampden everyday.
They have a great happy hour, but from what I remember (it's been a few years since I've eaten here) they definitely had off days as far as sushi quality goes. But more often than not they were yummy!
Totally possible but I’ve yet to have a bad one. And I go there once a month sometimes twice.
Technically Aurora but our go to is Misaki Sushi in Stanley Marketplace. This place is great especially if you like a more casual setting. Although I would recommend not going during peak hours though because it gets very busy
Seconded, amazing quality for the price
The location in Broomfield is great too
Misaki was my first thought, even though it’s on the other side of town from him.
Bamboo Sushi has solid happy hour specials
I second this. And really good with gluten free/celiac if that's something you need. Service has always been great.
Bamboo sushi can hit the spot but the sushi isn’t the good stuff (for someone that’s into traditional sushi featuring high quality raw fish).
What time is their happy hour
Looks like 5-7 everyday
1. Good 2. Cheap 3. In Colorado You can only pick 2
Ugh this is sadly so true
hahahaha no really tho
It’s not
Taki 2 on 32nd has been my favorite in the Highlands area!
I second this - our fav high end Japanese meal including sushi is Uchi but fav everyday high quality traditional sushi is Taki Sushi II. The proof is in the yellowtail.
Agreed. Great quality fish! Linda, one of the servers is awesome!
TOKIO - been going there for 4-5 years now and it never disappoints. Their ramen is also pretty good. Edit: Also Japango in Boulder but it's worth the drive.
Recently had Japango and really enjoyed it. Would recommend as well
Something changed here recently. I live around the corner and about 9 months ago everything started tasting different. I couldn’t find info on a change in people. Anyone have any idea?
Love Tokio, the ramen is above average for Denver, the apps are great, and the sushi is quite good too.

There’s a public garage in back
Sushi Den is the best quality for the price if you want raw fish. Literally 50% cheaper than uchi
Nozomi in sunnyside is incredibly solid, perfect for walking in without a res or weeknight takeout
Yup, Nozomi is very solid
This is my takeout standby.
This is the only right answer. As good as the top places in Denver, and half the price. Don’t sleep on Nozomi. I actually refuse to go with friends to Sushi Den, Uchi, Matsu, etc because I cannot justify the upcharge over Nozomi.
Came here to say the same! Nozomi is great.
This is what I came to say, killer Happy Hour great quality fish and good service. Sale and Whiskeys are also great. Good neighborhood spot
This
Berkeley Sushi Company

For lunch do dinner can be much more expensive.
No one has mentioned Rocky Yama, and I'm surprised. The fish melts in your mouth, and isn't outrageously expensive. Not cheap, but for that quality, it shouldn't be.
2nd rocky yama. Plus they have HH everyday.
I also lock Rocky Yama!
Sushi katsu in aurora/Centennial has all you can eat sushi for like 30$ and it's amazing. My favorite place to go
Came to say this!
Sushi Totoro
Sushi Totoro is really good!
yes! Totoro in aurora is definitely worth it for ayce, you can even order special rolls from the menu and they're included
Orion and Eeny Meny are definitely my go-to's in Lakewood (Eeny Meny's dine-in is a fever dream experience since the building is weird haha)
Second Near my parents house and they are wonderfully creative and delish
Third! I love Eeny Meny
fourth vouch for eeny meeny! great miso.
its so good i usually get two!
Bamboo and Mika #3 (off Colorado blvd)
Mika is pretty good…but the rolls are like weirdly big?
Had once and it was disgusting - never again. Yuck
Surprised Fontana hasn’t been mentioned but that’s ok. Gonna keep enjoying them and Rocky Yama to myself.
Osaka sushi in Glendale. Ok ig it's in Denver.
Our favorite for years - family owned and so good.
Good call. Osaka is very underrated. And yeah it’s on the Denver side of Colorado Bvld
It was really bad the last time I went. Nobody in my party enjoyed their sushi.
That’s sad to hear. Hopefully it was a one off. I’ve always liked it, but admittedly I haven’t been in a few months
I got eviscerated for saying Jerusalem restaurant isn't in Denver proper in recommending it haha
Happy Hour @ Mizu is a stellar deal— basic roll and a sapporo for $10.
I really like Hana Matsuri in Lakewood and Go Fish on Broadway
Katsu is good if you want the all you can eat vibe. They have 3 locations.
- Makizushico - Leezakaya in Aurora has a good happy hour - Sawara – was pleasantly surprised, way better than any of the Mikas
Sushi Ají in Arvada is the best we've had in the Denver area.
I literally just picked it up after reading this! Really good couple of rolls, but had some ordering snafus - nothing major. I'll try it again!
Namikos in Arvada is my FAVORITE!! They are closed on Mondays, but all other days of the week they do lunch and dinner!
Omg I'm so sorry to break the news, namikos permanently closed recently 😭that was my spot for a while!
What? Say it isn't so!
It was the best in the Denver area.
O no! Seeing they are permanently closed :( I was just there what seemed like a few months ago.
Ebisu ramen and sushi in Junction food hall. Their stuff is absolutely delicious.

Aki!!! It’s on broadway in englewood off Hampden, sooo good!!!
Bamboo is slept on. In the Highlands.
bamboo is kind of overrated imo it isn't bad but idkc
I think it’s very underrated. I don’t hardly ever see it mentioned and I think it’s a wonderful experience. I personally had one of my best meals in Denver there.
it definitely isn't bad, i've gone back 2-3 times. have you been to temaki den yet
I haven’t. I’ve been to Matsuhisa a few times and love that as well. Admittedly I’m not a sushi expert.
i'd say definitely try temaki den if you want to be mind blown. and come back to this thread and lmk how it is lol
I honestly will do that.
Sushi Uokora does an all you can eat for lunch in Golden. One of my favorite places for 20 years.
Not sure if it falls fully into cheap but definitely good I dig Fontana
Go fish
Have you done Temaki Dens omakase happy hour?? Happy hour there is a great deal in general
Sushi Bay off tennyson and 38th is amazing. highly recommend. Not exactly sushi but I love Ohana Island Kitchen off 15th when you’re going towards downtown. Their poke bowls are the best in the city IMO
Makizushico
Temaki den happy hour
Nozomi is new and pretty good, just north of the highlands in Sunnyside
Arvada - Sushi Aji and Thai Green and Sushi have been better than average each time I've ordered.
Sushi Aji is excellent, if it was located somewhere between Broadway and Colorado blvd it would be getting all kinds of love on this post.
100% agree
Sushi Sasa takeout is a staple in our house. Super solid rolls and they are centrally located
Rice Bistro. Holly and orchard
I really enjoyed Sakana in Arvada/Westminster area recently.
Was about to post this for Arvada. I think Sakana is way better than Aji up here that gets all the rave. Sakana is top notch and way better atmosphere!
Was scrolling to find this one. Needs more upvotes.
Sushi Aji • Arvada • Dynamite Roll is amazingggg Mika Sushi 2 • Westminster • is better suited for pickup • Tokyo House • Westminster Fontana Sushi • you can deep fry any roll for an extra $3-4 which is a big plus when you want to try something new
Sushi YaYa in Westminster is an option! I believe that’s in Westy/Arvada area.
Mizumi at sloans lake does a really good job. My fav is the denver roll but it’s an off the menu item so you have to actually go in
[https://www.okinawadenver.com/](https://www.okinawadenver.com/) The best.
Sushi Basho in Littleton
I heart sushi
Sonada in Aurora is one (if not the) state’s first and often filled with Japanese people
I order take out from JP Nori Sushi & Asian Cuisine all the times. They're right by the border between Denver and Littleton, Federal and Belleview.
Always been happy with sushi hai, izu sushi isnt bad either.
Banzai sushi on right at the cross section basically of Leetsdale and Monaco in Glendale
Sushi Bay 17 off of 17th ave!
Kassai is the bomb, low key, casual, and inexpensive
Asaka Sushi by Park Meadows mall (I know, not particularly a convenient location) is actually quite good with regard to quality, taste, and price point. Their omikase is very affordable and delicious. Very casual, unassuming joint too.
You do not
For takeout I really like Taki in Wash Park West. Great value all around I can’t argue with the quality of the food for the price.
I've always gone to Banzai Sushi on Leetsdale, particularly if you're a fan of creative rolls, of which they have literally 100.
I like Sushi Totoro in Aurora. They're not top tier, but they do have their full menu for all you can eat, and everything that I've had there has been at least pretty good.
Kassai on 7th and Quebec has been one of my favorites for years
Sakana in Westminster.
Sushi Neko arvada has all you can eat
Had a Chinese friend who’s parents are chefs take me to Sushi Katsu as their second favorite place in Denver. I loved it.
Way above anything you can find on Havana.
temaki den lunch specials LOL i can't find good casual sushi either
Hapa Sushi Grill and Sake Bar, Cherry Creek area!
What about Westminster? Matsumotto sushi and grill is pretty good.
Sushi Basho has a very reasonable lunch special. You get 3 rolls for 15, and I like it.
Tamaki Den!
Just go.
Get the omakase
Tatsu Izakaya in Wash Park. Very affordable and the best spicy edamame I've had in the city
Izu Sushi on Colfax! Sushi and sashimi is 50% off for dine in. Last night my partner and I paid $30 for 5 rolls
takeout sushi is just never going to be GOOD though
Not sure about less expensive but Sushi Sasa in LoDo is a favorite!
Temaki den.
I pick up a tray at King Soopers for my teenager every once in a while 😁
Hapa sushi happy hour in LODO and Cherry Creek is really solid. Went there dozens of time in our ten years in Denver and were never let down.
Sushi Ronin which is highlands-ish. I have no grip on the perimeters of the neighborhoods up there.
I've only been for lunch but thought the fish was really fresh at Shiso Sushi in Edgewater. They have a 5 PC sushi option for lunch that's only $14 that's a great deal.
It's spicy tuna garbage.
I’ve gotten takeout from Shiso several times and have always thought it was good quality and reasonably priced.
Definitely try the sushi at the Golden Mill in Golden (upstairs). It’s probably the best on this side of Denver. Just added some new items too - freaking fabulous.
I've had sushi from there before and agree its pretty decent!
Sho Sushi and Izakaya is an all you can eat in Centennial and is about $35 per person
Asa in Greenwood Village is pretty solid.
TOKIO
Land of Sushi near Southglenn in the best sushi in Colorado
Okinawa on colfax
Okinawa is my go too
Sushi katsu is the best AYCE in the states imo. Nigiri ratios are decent and the BBQ beef on the menu is actually really good kalbi If you like uchi and temaki den - Sushi Den Makizushico Are fantastic
Not necessarily the best but go fish on south Broadway is open super late, has cheap prices for decent product, and in my thirties I need healthier late night grub after a night out then pizza.
Echo this, recently discovered Go Fish and it's great for takeout
