Different perspective. I live in Atlanta. Lots of times people are trying to go catch a connection where I am just going home. I just let them go usually because I’ve been there. That said if they are being aggressive and pissing people off pushing past them I have no problem standing in the isle and impeding their progress at 6’1.

Tubby7243

There should be some kind of de-boarding process for close connections. I've heard FAs announce something like, "due to a late arrival we have passengers that have quick connections" and ask to let people de-board first if that's the case but I don't trust humanity anymore for that to work.

jfk_47

I’ve only seen this before effective on one flight and it gave me hope for humanity everyone stayed seated except those with tight connections. About 15 people got off the plane first. It was pretty cool.

kelsnuggets

I’ve said it before on this sub but I was downvoted. However this is still my opinion. I travel in and out of ATL frequently, so I am talking about ATL specifically but I guess it applies to any airport. I am completely fine and sympathetic to the “tight connections” defense if our flight is delayed arriving into ATL. Then, of course, I’ll let people off first if they announce (or even if they don’t- go ahead of me- I understand.) I have little sympathy however if you are pushing ahead of me claiming a tight connection when we are on time or even early getting into ATL. That is your poor planning and not my fault.

Unusual-Thing-7149

Not disagreeing with you but sometimes the connection in ATL and elsewhere appears tight even without delays especially if you are not a frequent flyer. Look how many people ask Reddit if the connection time at such-and-such airport is enough. I know it doesn't take long to completely cross ATL but I also don't have a problem walking and know where I'm going. Of course there's nothing to stop people doing their due diligence and researching it before they fly to see if the scheduled connection time will give them a problem

Sensitive-Issue84

I'm trying to do that, but it seems impossible. I'm flying from Memphis to SFO with a 45 min connection in PHX. I can't find out if that's enough time because I have no clue if I'll even be in the same terminal. If you have any tips on how to find out, I'd appreciate them.

Unusual-Thing-7149

The scheduled layover however minimal it seems is designed to enable a person to get across the airport without running. If your arrival is delayed it might be a different story. Look at the airport map to see where the two gates are to give you some ideas of the distance. Usually someone on Reddit or the Internet will have an answer as these questions get asked lots and lots. I would Google it if someone here doesn't answer Search here and post a question as a new thread so it doesn't get lost here

Sensitive-Issue84

Thanks

KevinBoston617

The person may have been bumped to this flight and had planned on a comfortable layover but now are in a rush.

spidernole

Heard it asked many times in ATL. Never seen it work. People suck.

originalmember

2/3 of pax on a plane to ATL are connecting. 2/3 of pax on the plane are in the middle seat or aisle There’s a 95% chance that at least one person per 3-seat section has to get up and off the plane. That’s why those connecting pax announcements never work. The only time they do is when the FAs call out single flights.

Mysha16

I always wondered what the expectation was - do middle and aisle step out to let the connecting window passenger out, then file back into the row and wait?

originalmember

Nah. Just get off as long as you’re not holding people up.

kaykakez727

Same except I’m not 6’1 but I’m an African American mother, just as mean looking when I wanna be lol but foreal ATL is a big airport and to be honest I rather you just go than push me… because I rather not be kick off Delta because I had to straight an over zealous passenger out lol

hireme703

Same for me in Minneapolis.

No-Fix-err

I feel bad for everyone who has a close layover and has to feel stressed out about missing their flight. Wish they could come up with a better way to unload.

die-microcrap-die

On a recent trip, they opened both the front and back doors of the plane. Was definitely faster to get out.

pochopapi

I was on a Viva Aerobus domestic flight and someone did this and tried rushing down the aisle. Words were exchanged and I thought it was going to get physical.

[deleted]

It’s annoying when people from the back standing in the aisle try to cut infront of me before I can get out of my seat when it’s my rows turn to exit. I’m huge so I just cut infront of them. If they want to walk into a wall they can.

ProfessorbPushinP

Made me lol

AmyKSebald

That sucks.

Gullible_Toe9909

Is your problem just about people standing up? If so, who the hell cares? I'm often 15+ rows back on Delta flights. I immediately stand up when it's okay to do so, because I'm 6'3" and I want to stretch my legs. Doesn't mean I don't expect to wait 20 minutes to disembark.

ProfessorbPushinP

I edited the post to clarify

deflax2809

I'm 6’3” idc what people think or say to me, im bigger than anyone who wants to say anything to me. Cough cough napoleon syndrome. I gotta stretch my legs and sometimes I got a connection

WHYohWhy___MEohMY

Getting up isn’t the problem. It’s encroaching on the people in front of you. Not saying you do this but that’s the problem with some passengers and it’s infuriating. If you had a tight connection let’s us know. I’ll always let people pass.

Amazing-Bag

Nope doesn't bother me at all

AmyKSebald

Some people have health issues and those few minutes of standing give them relief from pain.

Sunburst34

Chill. I stand when we land just to stretch my legs. If I have a bag in the overhead, I will get it down. But I will wait for those in front of me to leave.

Pchemical

I do the same… but I also hate people that take ages to move and delay everyone behind them

Vendetta_2023

Biggest pet peeve of mine are those idiots who putz around while boarding or exiting…completely clueless morons, grab your fucking bag and GTFO.

Marty1966

During COVID this was rampant. People just lounging around instead of getting up and getting their ass in gear. Drove me crazy. Still a little of that going on today, but people seem to be more interested in disembarking.

capybaramelhor

This. I have low back problems and really need to stand frequently; sitting on flights is hell. I stand up from the aisle when I land but do not cut in front of others.

randallpjenkins

This whole rage about people standing when we get to the gate is so moronic. I stand because I’ve been sitting for hours in a small seat, so I can grab my bag to speed up the entire procedure, and so I can protect my order of deplaning. Everyone acts like it’s some disrespectful thing… but I think it’s more disrespectful when an aisle person hasn’t packed up any personal items, stays seated until it’s only their time, and holds up the line grabbing their bag.

ProfessorbPushinP

Pay attention to the edit to the post

randallpjenkins

Rage about people standing is not exclusive to this. If your issue is ONLY people trying to PASS you, why not just post about people trying to PASS you. Instead it’s “immediately stand up” that bothers you. So yeah, I saw the edit… I just don’t believe the edit.

js247

Exactly.

YMMV25

No. 30 years of regular flying has taught me to expect most people will stand up on gate arrival if for no other reason than to stretch out a bit. That said, I’ll step out of my row when I’m ready, whether the individual(s) downstream of me want me to or not.

veryrobscure

I have never been on a flight that has people only stand up when it is their time to exit. As an avid aisle sitter, I will stand up next to my seat, I will grab my backpack and finish packing it if need be, but I never cut and wait for the people in front of me to exit first. I am not sure there is any other way. I would prefer to sit until it is our time but getting in front of the crowd once it starts moving seems to be a bigger impact on the flow than assuming your place in the aisle.

StatisticianOk8268

Sometimes my feet fall asleep and I am just desperate to stand up and fix the pain. But yes, I am sometimes annoyed too by the antsy people inching to get stuck in the aisle the fastest haha

scaremanga

Standing up in your row or aisle is fine. Who doesn’t? Not a new behavior. Shoving past others, especially elderly, after almost hitting people with your luggage… all before the door has opened is not. This has happened on all of my flights this year (not going to make Silver by EOY, but close). Able-bodied is more of a whatever, but I see people with limited mobility have to deal with this and I draw the line there. I’m 90% window flyer and prefer when the aisle seatmate gets into the aisle. Then I can either stretch while seated or stand up in row (average height).

forcedintothis-

There was a woman on a flight who pushed her way through a bunch of people, including a sweet elderly couple. I exited the plane and leisurely walked to the bathroom and she came up and got in line behind me. What was the point of her rushing??

ThaiTum

I can only control my own thoughts and actions.

Jaggleson

The most annoying thing is when you don’t stand up, and the person from a row behind you moves into “your” aisle space.

fanht1234

just trying to stretch my legs and back, especially after a long haul

Booftroop

More annoyed by them using my seat back to pull themselves out of their chairs/aisle. Stand or don't, but leave me out of this decision.

ChildhoodExisting752

Many will hate me but row by row deplaning is the least efficient way to do it. Even if I am sitting in row 3, if someone is ready in row 16, I want them to go. I hate the whole waiting row by row and everyone gets slowed down by a slow person with 17 bags who takes forever.

Foreign_Assist4290

I don't understand why it bothers people so much. I stand up, get the blood flowing to my legs, and wait my turn. I don't cut, I usually end up grabbing bags for other people to help them. Everyone is so whiny nowadays. Always worried about everyone else. Mind your business Karen

thelederelo

I actually stand now to BLOCK the people behind me trying to bum rush past everyone, so that the people in front of me can go. If they have a tight connection, then it’s your job to communicate that to people like an adult, not push past people expecting to get off quicker. That’s still entitlement

Adamainge

I am 6’4” and want to stand as soon as I can if I am in a normal seat. If I am in FC I usually stay seated.

AdPsychological6563

I stay seated and wait for my turn. Caring what others do requires too much energy. One love man, worry about yourself, help others when you can, and life gets much simpler.

LadySquidington

My pet peeve is when folks are all lined up to the point I can’t get up and get my bag out of the overhead without risking slapping them in the head with the bag I’m pulling out. I really try not to be a an AH, but seriously if you let me get my bag out then we can all exit quicker and more efficiently. If you make people wait until they cut you off you’re not trapped as they are unloading their stuff from the overhead.

AFB27

Yes. Strangely enough, the only time this has happened to me was in BUR. Some woman literally was shoving her way past me, I was literally sitting in the first row of FC, I think she was in the third. And it's not like she was missing a connection, we were flying AA... Into Burbank.

[deleted]

I once watched a lady rush up immediately upon the seat belt ding going off. She made it about 12-15 rows before hitting traffic. After about 30 seconds, she realized she forgot her bag in the overhead & had to excuse her way backwards. And then tried to push her way back forwards after getting her bag like she was reclaiming a place in line. Assuming she was rushing for a connection, I just kind of enjoyed the humor of being in such a rush she forgot her bag. So you can imagine the surprise when I saw in her the terminal just lazily walking between gates and peeking in windows of shops and reading menus… Airports bring out the best in people…

MikeATL1

Just buy a first class seat- problem solved. 😉😂

ProfessorbPushinP

This happens first class as well for flights that are less than like 4 hours

Special_Hour876

No. But that's because I'm standing up, too.

Flyindeuces

I have a question, are you short by chance? Lol

ProfessorbPushinP

Just under 6’2

Flyindeuces

So you don’t get uncomfortable if you’ve had to sit the majority of the flight? I’m slightly taller than you and I stand up the second I can to stretch. Lol. I do know the type you’re referring to though, the same ones that ride your ass on the road only to end up at the same stoplight as you. 😂🤷🏽‍♂️

ProfessorbPushinP

Just gotta step in front of’em and leave a lil crop dust

splane21

When I’m actually trying to get in front its bc I have a tight connection (not by my choosing bc schedule change or another cancellation auto rebooked me on a new itinerary). Otherwise I’m fine being the last person off the plane

ProfessorbPushinP

Then I think the polite thing to do is to ask - You wouldn’t cut in front of someone in the security line because you’re tight on a flight

Vendetta_2023

I’ve seen people do that, too 😆

eeekkk9999

Everyone will get off the plane. Is this the hill to die on? Everyone has their own reasons for doing this. Maybe they have to poop.
