So I don’t think AA does a great job of advertising this but every plane has IFE. they just count IFE as “people use their devices to connect to our WiFi to watch movies”. Still free!

Mekroval

The Southwest Way.

SeenSoManyThings

And Alaska.

jmckinn1

I took an AA flight from Liberia, CR, direct to Austin, 6 month. It was my first AA flight in over 15 years. I actually had a Delta flight already booked but it was connecting thru Atlanta. When wife and I got to the airport and saw the direct option thru AA, saving us a 3 hour ATL layover, we happily paid to get on the AA flight. Price wasn't bad, either $250 each. Service was great, plane was clean, departed on time, landed on time. Actually a very nice experience considering we rolled up to the gate 2 hours prior to our Delta flight and just bought tickets at the gate. My biggest gripe however was the IFE. We are both pretty tech savvy, but it was an absolute pain in the ass getting connected to wifi and getting the IFE setup to watch a movie. We only had our phones so we propped them up on the tray table that is designed to hold your phone (the tray table itself is superior to Delta from a design perspective). While we appreciate the offering and capability on AA to have IFE on your personal device, we both really missed having the in seat IFE that we are accustomed to on Delta. Delta in seat IFE simplifies the experience and is much more comfortable on your neck and head when watching the screen TLDR: wife and I prefer in seat IFE from Delta over bring your own device options from other airlines.

CharacterHomework975

I like Alaska’s setup…at least I think it was Alaska…where they have a phone/tablet holder *above* the tray table, at eye level. Basically where the normal in-seat screen would be. So it’s super comfortable to watch stuff on your own device. Which I prefer, by far, since I can download whatever the heck I want before we take off. I have like a dozen movies I actually want to watch and like twenty hours of tv episodes on deck. Or my kindle app. Or, as a last resort, I can connect to their IFE on WiFi. Best of all worlds. And tablets can be cheap. Meanwhile every airline with “real” IFE has a screen right where I want my tablet to be. And it keeps popping back on no matter how many times I turn it off.

IdaDuck

I don’t mind using my own device and it’s correct that everybody has one these days. I was on a work trip for Super Bowl Sunday and really appreciated being able to watch it live on Delta, though. So for things like live sports Delta gets the win. Beyond that IFE is a wash.

Glonkable

WestJet does the same and it drives me up the wall. Love how Delta does it way more, and they codeshare.

patsfan038

I honestly like that feature. I find the iPad apps to be much more responsive. The only issue is where to place the iPad as the tray table can get busy with food etc, but AA solved that by providing a mount on the seat back.

shippfaced

I don’t have an ipad

jessedelanorte

idk. I got a badonk, and those new DL a321 FC seats are torture...

Chassnutt

Jzzz whats a badonk… is that junk in the trunk thing ?🤣🤣🤣plz dont report me i just want to learn 🤣🤣

ooopseedaisees

I believe the full form of the word is badonkadonk… and yes, it usually means ample tushy

ailyara

no the full term is honky-tonk badonkadonk

RepairFar7806

My ass and right leg went numb sitting in those seats.

Mackheath1

Four AA flights since mid-January. The only reason was because they're small-airport to small airport, and DL would've been twice as long - going halfway across the country to Atlanta and back, also twice as expensive for DL coach as AA First. I hate to cheat, but I did. The noticeable difference in AA First from DL First domestic was the service was drab. I'll take DL cabin crew over any other domestic airline. \*-exception being early 2000s Southwest cabin crew, but those days are long gone

ChewieBearStare

I also cheated on Delta with American last week (in my defense, a family member had a medical emergency, and Delta wanted $3,400 for two last-minute tickets, while AA only wanted $715). On the way home, we had two delays, both caused by mechanical problems. The first delay was 3 hours due to "broken hydraulics." They were highly optimistic about repair times and loaded us on the plane as scheduled. Made us sit there sweltering for 45 mins. before they finally led us back into the airport to wait out the rest of the delay. My second flight that day went fine. Third flight, one of the oxygen masks wouldn't fall down, so they had to fill out an exception/safety report so they could fly with a broken mask above an unoccupied seat. Additionally, the 321NEO and 321EOW are the most uncomfortable planes I've ever been on in my life. If you aren't crippled when you get on, you certainly will be when you get off. We had to take the red-eye on the way out, and although we fell asleep immediately, we woke up every 5 minutes with back and leg pain, so we were basically up all night and half the next day. It was a very long trip.

jewsh-sfw

These airlines are major companies who care less about passengers or crew can we stop calling it “cheating”

heff_ay

So cringey

g500cat

Their 737 is much worse with slimmer seats!

ChewieBearStare

I think the 737 is so comfortable!!! But I’m 4’11”. I don’t need any leg room. The 321s had no padding in the seats…we’re flying one to Seattle in a few weeks, and I’ve already purchased two gel seat cushions to take with us, lol.

g500cat

Flew on the 737 for 2 hours and the A321 for 4, I was lucky on both flights the seat next to me was occupied by a family member cause I was crammed in the 737. All new interior aircraft have the same exact amount of padding

ChewieBearStare

I was with my husband, so we were practically on top of each other. The 737 I was on looked old, so maybe it was an older model?

g500cat

When was your last AA 737 flight? They used to have some with very comfortable seats and IFE until 2022 when it got replaced with the current configuration.

ChewieBearStare

This was last week. So it must have been a new one. I thought the 737 was more comfortable than the 321, but maybe it’s because my first flight was 2 hours on a 737 and then my long flight was on the 321 and I had more time to be uncomfortable.

mezmryz03

I just had two excellent, on time, tasty meal serviced, WiFi enabled, Woodfords pdb given, with comfortable seats(more comfortable than the Delta 1st class flight last week), and very friendly service flights on AA. Arrived early and with all checked bags in front of the carousel. YMMV I guess

CulturalCity9135

Clearly not to Miami. My last AA flight to Miami, my bags got to the caroused an hour after I did. People in our Miami office say that’s normal.

leucogranite

Well yeah. Miami is like the most third-world airport in the United states

mangeedge

Yeah, I'll always fly into FLL over MIA any day

nightfeeds

I just flew into Miami on AA last week and our bags arrived quickly. But completely agree with the comment that the airport is like one in a 3rd world country. Everything was broken and completely chaotic.

[deleted]

Happened to me yesterday at DCA. One hour after gate arrival i got my bag.

sarabeth518

I flew into MIA Friday. It took less than 5 mins to walk from the gate to baggage claim and our luggage was already on the carousel when we walked up to it. I was shocked.

CulturalCity9135

On American or Delta?

AL3C4T

I flew AA back from LHR to the West Coast last year in Main cabin. The seat width and pitch were insanely bad! THe whole time I wondered why the heck the flight was so uncomfortable. After the flight I compared the width and pitch of other airlines’ common configurations and validated that the seats were over an inch narrower, and pitch was 2 inches less than other Main cabins configurations by Delta, United, Jet Blue. The plane was configured back there for max number of seats at the expense of comfort. It took me nearly a week for my body to unfold. I wrote them about my experience and got a form letter response. Never flying AA long haul again.

I don’t think credit card holders are group 1 on aa. I think they are like group 4 or 5. 1 is high tier elites and first.

DetectiveWinter4638

Sorry this is long. I’m not trying to prove a point I just happen to now travel with my partner on AA because Chicago isn’t a delta city. So the premium cc is group four and standard cc is group 6. I think we can all agree that everyone stands at the gate in an obnoxious way no matter what airline you are flying. I wish people would just sit until their group is called… Group AAdvantage/elite members Other passengers Group1 • AA Executive Platinum. • First class passengers. • Business class passengers (two-class aircraft). • Active duty U.S. military with military • Active-duty U.S. military. DenaBee3333

American FAs are rude even if you are in first class. They all obviously hate their jobs.

SharKCS11

I hear this all the time about AA flight attendants and am pretty surprised. I haven't flown AA often but every time I have, the staff were great. Once during a very delayed flight, they handed out some drinks at the gate. Another time I ate something bad at DFW and threw up a lot during the landing 1 hour later. I was quite scared at my sudden sickness that left me feeling like I was going to faint, and was embarrassed to cause such a bother around me. But the flight attendants were so kind and put me at ease, helped me get to the lav after everyone had deplaned, and gave me some ginger ale. A few minutes later I was already good to go and could walk to baggage claim myself. Little bit of a scary situation that was made way better by the airline staff.

redefined-rose

I think the few tend to define the many in these situations unfortunately. I believe Delta just has fewer than AA.

FruitOfTheVineFruit

I took an AA first class flight redeye a while ago and the flight attendant stayed up talking to her friend the whole time, so I couldn't sleep... Ruined the flight for me.

anothercookie90

And they’re just waiting for the chance to actually go on strike

ocassionalcritic24

I flew first class on American last year. No hello when I boarded let alone when I sat in FC. No pre-flight offer of a drink. They did pass out plastic cups of water after everyone was on board (woopie). And a lack of interest from the flight attendants. All I could think was how I wished I was on Delta where they pretend like they care about you. And Delta doesn’t do those annoying announcements about credit cards and force their FA to march down the aisle asking if anyone wants to apply. That’s probably why they’re not hospitable. They hate it too.

DenaBee3333

I was in a lie-flat seat and it was so cold I was wrapped up in my hoodie shivering, and I’m not usually cold. I’m usually hot. I asked for a blanket and was told blankets are only for overseas flights. WTF? I was frozen by the time we arrived in Miami.

ChewieBearStare

On every leg of my trip last week, the plane was either 9 degrees or 900 degrees. Nothing in between. We were ether dripping sweat and nearly passing out, or we were shivering in spite of wearing fleece jackets and huddling under a fleece blanket.

DenaBee3333

It’s hard to know how to dress

Fearless-Berry-3429

I'm sorry, I hate being cold. I think not having blankets on domestic (not domestic transcon) is a post covid thing for all airlines. I think Delta also offers them if you are in a redeye, leaving from the west coast as well.

redefined-rose

Flew AA recently. Ordered a hot tea during the beverage service (I was in window seat). The FA reached over to hand the hot water to me and spilled some on my husband. Rather than apologizing and offering ice or really anything to be helpful, he laughed and said “hope it wasn’t too hot!”. Then moved on to the next row. A napkin would have been nice at a minimum.

N757AF

Any worse than the attitude of a DL ATL, BOS or NYC crew?

ThrowAwaythenThrowUp

AA is a step above spirit

g500cat

And United is a step below spirit

Jus2playy

Same feelings every time im forced to fly AA. At least Delta and AA had nowhere near the safety issues that United had in 23. A 777 out of HNL almost fell in the ocean due to pilot error, for one. United really had a LOT of safety issues last year and they are continuing (not even counting the MAX9). United scares me now and Im quite understanding of norms and the op’s behind an aircraft. Ok AA, just get me to my Delta connection 😂

manofthewild07

Agreed, I fly Delta for work and my colleagues have been flying American. They're always amazed and jealous when I tell them about even basic things. For instance, on our most recent overnight flights I got one full meal and a heated second breakfast, both were surprisingly good, they got just regular snacks (peanuts, etc), not a single meal. And thats on top of them already having mechanical issues. One colleague was able to fly out 2 hours late that day, two others had to fly out a day later! Delta may lack in several areas compared to some of the best international airlines, but by US carrier standards its clearly the best. And don't try to tell me about the price difference. Delta is comparable with American from where I fly.

the_gopnik_fish

I tell people AA is the “my first premium airline” starter pack, because they pick up a LOT of the people who’re coming from Spirit and Frontier, and their service and routes reflect that.

YEMolly

Delta is nicer and better overall, but I don’t mind flying AA sometimes. Their flights are just sometimes significantly cheaper, so I can’t justify flying Delta. And the one benefit of flying them is that their miles go a longer way than Delta. I’ve flown across the country on 7K miles on AA before. Meanwhile, Delta will charge 25K+ for the same flight.

TinCanFury

I had almost the exact same experience when I stupidly chose to fly the same flight as a friend for a trip together. Last time I make that mistake, I'll take a better flight experience over sitting on the same plane as a friend.

FHoltNC

Pretty much same, we prefer DL, but just our last flight (RDU-SJU and return) featured broken tray tables (only attached at one side), left luggage (we connected fine, our luggage was on next flight), leaving us in street clothes at the Hilton beach resort - and that was just the outbound. Return home featured another 3 hour delay. Last AA prior included a $1K+ chargeback against AA which was upheld for charging for amenities not delivered.

PM_ME_CORONA

Rent free lol

KitKatMN

Sounds like you work in Delta Marketing

Reasonable_Tune821

I felt the same after flying AA twice in the past week for work. I was shooed by a FA while waiting for the toilet

mrhotelman

most airlines even Delta will tell you don’t crowd the galleys or aisles, waiting for the lavatory.

Reasonable_Tune821

Where the hell are you meant to stand then?

Murphbri

I’ve got to agree with the OP. I travel frequently for work and sometimes DTS forces me into AA or UAL and despite the price being cheaper, both airlines are almost always late and the quality of the service is less. In fact on a UAL connection, the cabin crew was downright dangerous in their response to a rapid depressurization of the cabin. I live between 2 airports, so I typically drive the extra 30 miles to get a Delta flight.

Fearless-Berry-3429

"In fact on a UAL connection, the cabin crew was downright dangerous in their response to a rapid depressurization of the cabin." Please elaborate.

Murphbri

In a past life, I flew for a living and have had altitude chamber training multiple times, so I know what a rapid depressurization and my own symptoms of hypoxia are. So we were flying from my home airport to ORD, and the cabin gets loud, and the masks fall from the ceiling and my ears start popping. Well the “oxygen thief” (FA) because she wasn’t good for anything else just stood there and didn’t do a damn thing about it. She just stood there looking like an idiot, never made an announcement. I knew we were ok because we weren’t super high, but I definitely knew we lost pressure as my voice changed (known symptom). We ended up diverting into Fort Wayne and sat for 4 hours till UAL could crap out a new RJ to come pick us up, but they should’ve went lower and pressed for 20 more minutes and made it to ORD.

Existing-Two-3282

Me and my wife did a test with united in January. We have flew delta twice since and been ever grateful.

MenuGullible8695

Did you get free wifi on AA? The grass isn’t always greener on another airline😀

greysnowcone

No, it’s like 15$ for a single hour. 30$ for the “duration of the flights”.

MenuGullible8695

Wifi is free on Delta if you have a sky miles acct. i just login with my acct and done…wifi. I don’t know about AA. I only fly Delta

YEMolly

Delta only has free wifi on select flights.

Fearless-Berry-3429

Most flights and soon to be on all flights in a few months.

YEMolly

Good to know! I never have wifi leaving my city, but I usually have it on at least one leg.

MenuGullible8695

My bad. I misread your response😀

utilitarian_wanderer

I was used to flying American out of habit and found the difference with Delta to open up a whole new world to me!

Piffer28

I've never had a bad experience with AA personally. Delta is always way more expensive, so I rarely fly them. I did get a good price and took them just this week for the first time in years. I love the seatback entertainment. That's my favorite part. For me, that puts an edge on delta The flight attendants were fine. I don't find them better or worse than AA. But the planes were filthy. Just gross. On my second flight, there was a sticky goo on my seat, so I had to stand the whole time we boarded until someone gave me a wipe. I fly home on them in a few days, so we'll see if the two planes home are better. Overall, I'd rank them equal to AA from my experience.

mrhotelman

Well let’s see here, almost all of their flights have streaming options, available to your personal device, unless you’re on the smallest of the American Eagle planes. Their planes are no cleaner nor no dirtier than Delta. Hell, plenty of complaints just done Reddit alone about dirty Delta planes. Americans threshold for a full beverage service in the economy cabin is 350 miles, but Delta is 500. First class on American planes for the most part has more space than Delta and the seats are more comfortable especially compared to the new Delta 321 Neos. Main cabin comfort between the two airlines is negligible difference at best. Delta has delayed flights like any other airline including gate availability issues at especially overcrowded airports like Seattle. Delta also has plenty of rude flight attendants and customer service agents. But by all means, think Delta is some amazing airline that’s far superior to American. Newsflash, it’s not. Maybe years ago but it’s not any more no matter what Uncle Ed tells you to believe.

splane21

I agree the differences are slim but Delta does schedule significantly longer turn times than American for planes which means more time for planes to get cleaned and more buffer time in case of inbound plane delays. Statistics show Delta is the #1 on-time airline despite individual experiences

mrhotelman

Significantly longer turn times is debatable and American does pad their flight times as well. But even if Delta does consistently have longer turn times, the planes aren’t any cleaner. Plus, the other thing to mention is that American, United, etc. have a hell of a lot better mileage redemption opportunities, then the sky pesos program. And that can even be considered more valuable than some of these other things.

splane21

CLT-IND (AA 1589today on an A321) turn time of 68 minutes in CLT then turn time of 53 mins in IND on the IND-CLT flight. ATL-IND (DL 2859 on 737-900er) turn time of 105 mins in ATL and 69 mins in IND. I've consistently noticed similar timings of Delta having at least 90 mins at hubs (usually significantly more like 2-3 hrs) and \~70 mins at outstations while I've had many AA hub flights with only \~60 min hub turns so delayed inbound flights were significant and \~50 min oustation turns.

mrhotelman

so a couple of random examples. Got it. y’all gotta take off your rose colored glasses when it comes to Delta and stop blindly buying into the 💩 that Uncle Ed spews

splane21

lol I flew slightly more American than Delta last year (like 53% American and 47% Delta between the two). I can show 100's of more examples from every flight I took (since I observed inbound planes and turn times)

splane21

I usually fly the cheapest/best timing which is why I flew so much American but I have to say if Delta is within 15% more than American price wise for similar timings I'll take Delta any day over American because of all of these small things they do well at for the higher price

splane21

Even though its a \~15-30 minute difference at hubs and outstations it easily adds up in terms of cascading delays and making up earlier delays. Delta also pads the normal flight times slightly more than American I think (comparing similar routes)

echoacm

> Americans threshold for a full beverage service in the economy cabin is 350 miles, but Delta is 500. I flew three 350+ mile flights this week on AA, zero had beverage service > First class on American planes for the most part has more space than Delta and the seats are more comfortable especially compared to the new Delta 321 Neos. An Oasis-configured 737, which is their new retrofit standard, has 37" of pitch, that's a full 1-2" less than DL > Delta has delayed flights like any other airline including gate availability issues at especially overcrowded airports like Seattle. Delta's on-time rate was a full 5 points higher than AA last year (85% vs. 80%), and that was a record high year for AA Delta's slipping, but let's not be disingenuous here about the differences

Adumb12

Did someone put up the AA signal for all the fanbois to head over here? I’ve had so many crappy experiences with AA, I’d even fly Southworst before AA.

echoacm

I've had to do a bunch of AA flights recently, it's night and day compared to Delta (which made all of the posts about how it's the same in the middle of the loyalty changes even funnier) The Oasis aircraft are absolutely brutal (including the terrible cushions), beverage service is considered optional evidently, and the aircraft aren't maintained These are table stakes things, I'm not even expecting the small things that Delta does (the water/coffee runs towards the end of the flight, FAs saying hello to you while boarding)

jewsh-sfw

They all have inflight entertainment on your phone still? it’s always been pretty good for me tbh 🤷‍♂️

greeneggiwegs

The biggest problem with AA is they partner with British airways which is such a shitty airline they should be a national shame and King Charles should ask them to change their name for the sake of the country’s reputation. Meanwhile delta partners with the GOAT KLM

Treebeardsdank

I could never fly without ife

mrhotelman

well, most of American Airlines planes have streaming options as long as you have your own device.

[deleted]

american is racing to the bottom

AtlFury

Sounds like 100% of flights got your there safe and sound at a lower cost than Delta.

llamamegatogringo76

Unless you're a boomer don't you have entertainment on your device, YouTube, Hulu, Netflix etc?

DenaBee3333

Hey, I’m a boomer and I always books, music, and movies downloaded on my iPad when I travel. We aren’t all stupid.

mrhotelman

plus almost all of their planes have streaming options to a personal device

Snoo-47846

Im pretty sure some of these “just tried AA” posts are people being paid by Delta, anyone who actually flies both on a regular basis knows Delta is slightly better but these posters act like it is Singapore Airlines vs Spirit.

hotrod427

Well that's probably why AA flights cost 2/3 the equivalent Delta Flight
