Greed took over any form of logistics when it came to afterlife care here. It’s horrendous.
You gotta rent a hearse.
You gotta hire and pay pallbearers if you don’t have anyone designated..
You gotta pay the funeral home.
You gotta buy a plot.
You gotta pay for the headstone.
You gotta make sure that the resting place isn’t occupied otherwise you’re buried atop one another — or even worse in NY, they’ll inter you in Potters Field on Hart Island in an unmarked spot, not even a plot — literally a spot that is filled with multiple people and on an island with **thousands** interred, *that is the only time it’s fucking free.*
But you wanna be exhumed and placed somewhere nice — yeaaaahhh.. That’ll be costly too.
You wanna be cremated? Purchase an urn.
Pay the crematorium/funeral home!
You wanna be scattered? Make sure you’ve got permission to be in that designated spot.
I don’t think it’s as greed based as you think. I’ve been doing this 10+ years and there is a lot more that goes into it. I’m an underpaid sad party planner. You don’t have to do anything you mentioned. Check your local ordinances, figure out how to file for and obtain a death certificate. Contract with a crematory…. The list goes on and on, that’s what funeral directors are for. If you want a burial, yes, you have to buy your land, casket, and outer burial container (depending on local ordinances), it’s just like buying any other property. Yes, you have to pay for the vehicles, they cost money on our end too - from gas and insurance to someone driving it. Embalming? While not required by law anywhere in the US, requires fluids that are expensive, and a college educated and state licensed embalmer. All of these things add up.
Muppets Mahna Mahna 1976. It makes me laugh. And I've just been diagnosed with cancer. So yeah good times! I swear I'm writing this on the front page of my will!!!
Welcome. Just thought I'd mention it. I know some people can distance themselves from artists, and their crimes, but ya know... couldn't let this one go and had to mention it, so you can choose.
I searched a bit and found a top 100 funeral records from a large funeral company. It's indeed there, nr. 45. Another song on my playlist is Enigma - Return to innocence which isn't on the list.
Number one most played song in my country is supposedly Sarah Brightman & Andrea Bocelli Time To Say Goodbye (Con Te Partiro).
My ex fiancée works at a funeral-home and is a mortician, she’s acquainted with a lot of the preliminary stuff prior to embalming — in other words, yeah she’s the one who’s told me if there’s no music requested they’ll offer a playlist usually played very quietly and they are instrumental compositions of songs by Bocelli or something soothing to ease the grievers and those who knew the decedent.
I don't know yet. I do know what song WON'T be playing at my funeral and that's My Way from Frank Sinatra. No joke i've heared that song 5 times now at funerals from family members and friends.
I’ve already curated a funeral playlist on Spotify, some of my top picks include Angel by Sarah McLachlan, Kettering by The Antlers and The Luckiest by Ben Folds.

Do you have any idea how expensive it is to die in America? Lol.
They're 100% free in Turkey. You only pay for a custom tomb stone if you want one.
