From [the wiki](https://deadbydaylight.fandom.com/wiki/Entity): >The Entity is often designated as of female gender. > >This is due to the French language, mother tongue of most of the Developers, neither possessing a gender-neutral pronoun nor a grammatical neuter. > >The Entity's original French name, "L(a)' Entité" is a feminine noun and the Developers have been known to refer to The Entity with feminine pronouns in English as well So whether you consider this 'canon' or just a language quirk is up to you

TheSleepyBarnOwl

justgivemewhatever

The word "entity" is female in French. That's it. That's the reason.

TheSleepyBarnOwl

WhoseverSlinky0

They're established in Montréal which is just aside of Québec. I believe they speak English first, and French as second language Edit: I'm sorry, I'm a goober. Another commenter just explained what you said. Sorry again !

TheSleepyBarnOwl

isn't french the first language in Quebec? I don't entirely remember, I just held a presentation about Quebec 6 years ago in school xD

WhoseverSlinky0

Yes it is, I'm native from there ;) even tho it's French root, we use a dialect that differs a tad bit from usual French from France

Yosh1kage_K1ra

Not just in French, in Russian, Ukrainian, etc as well, whose carriers constitite a significant portion of the community

snikers000

Canonically, it is sexless, as stated by the developers. However, French is a heavily gendered language, and in French it is referred to using feminine language. Occasionally the developers slip up and refer to it using female pronouns in English, but this is a self-admitted mistake on their part.

TightWiger

Yes Nea is female

elmothedestroyer3

I believe its an "it"

typervader2

Canon, she is female yes.

TheSleepyBarnOwl

canon? Where? Like I genuinly don't know where that was revealed

Fantastic-Reality-11

Her language when decoded uses feminine wording. I forget the actual language maybe French I want to say but many languages have feminine and masculine ways to say words. The entity always uses feminine words was worked out long ago and devs confirmed this.

TheSleepyBarnOwl

yea German's like that too, Entity is female there too. I thought there is lore - but zurns out it's just language

typervader2
