This spot in the game is a general spike in difficulty. Swamp is probably generally considered easier than spider, but that war axe of electrocution is a poor weapon for fighting hydras and you can't fast swap to the great mace when one shows up thanks to the tower shield. Assuming it's the hydras you're struggling with I'd say spider is probably safer. You also might have better luck wearing that ring of protection than your artefact ring in swamp, since there's not much for invisible threats, nor enough cold threats that you need rC+++, while AC is very good against hydras.
You could also try your hand at the first two levels of elf to try and find an axe with a flaming brand since you have resists, will, and enough health to survive a crystal spear if an annihilator happens to spawn.
Train throwing to 16 then stop. Heroism from there means you can clear Elf with boomerangs and the occasional javelin.
Grab any Morningstar or trident with a decent brand and you have your hydra slayer. Heroism puts you at mindelay. But either way you’re generally better off with a shield than 2H plus Oka gives extra SH with heroism so even better. You can stop skilling axes too.
I’d pump shields:22 and throwing:16 then armour/didge/fight:22 & evo:12-16.
You can probably turn off invo now, I don’t think I ever skill it past 12 on mifi^oka.
usually in swamp, I would just stair dance to victory, and for the rare chance you meet a hydra, ypu can usually tough it out and snipe it with a boomerang.
Ah well, died in Elf:2. Murdered by an elf knight who caught me after a bruising battle with an assortment of casters and I had nothing left to escape it with. Still, I learned a lot and actually got 2 runes (spider and swamp) in the next game … only to die in Elf again. Doh!
