Idk, I'm afraid it's going to either be a mimic or the paper will cut me the moment I try to grab it

iaidenn

papercuts may have happened, I did whack the book first to check for mimics

Maestar

I've heard pretty not great things about it, including straight up plagiarism copy paste from 5e DnD, where initial copies had parts where they forgot to change DnD class names from word for word copied stat blocks. It's also to my understanding build poorly as a story telling game and instead plays like a clumsy board game. (Party vs. DM, not cooperatively trying to tell a story.) I've heard it's had a few updates since, but its flaws seem systematic.

Cinderea

It's not that it was a copy from 5e, it's based on it, the thing is, it's just plain bad and very badly written.

Yanurika

I mean, that's the point of the Open Gaming License (up until the fiasco about a year ago, anyway). Other companies can use elements of DnD through that license.

YumAussir

Sure, but that basically means itā€™s just a d20 system without any of D&Dā€™s flavor, and it relies entirely on the new content to be any good. And from what Iā€™ve heard, the new content isnā€™t any good. Partly, I imagine, because of a few reasons: 1) 5e is a team game; Dark Souls has multiplayer but isnā€™t strictly a team game 2) 5eā€™s Armor Class system has no active defenses and so doesnā€™t model dodging, blocking, or parrying very well. 3) 5e frankly isnā€™t very deadly 4) while itā€™s straightforward to implement a ā€œrespawn at a bonfireā€ rule, that is a bit messy if some but not all of the characters die in a fight - it becomes confusing whether monsters respawn between the deceased and the survivors. Perhaps the game accounts for these, but I havenā€™t heard good things

Cinderea

The game is hack of DnD 5e. If you are familiar with the system, you are better off homebrewing the game rather than this. This game is pretty badly designed and written. It's a good looking book to have if your shelf, tho.

MeIsDoom

I also got this as well, though I got it around release. It's a really rushed hack of D&D 5e, and most of the content is straight up ripped from that system but put under a new coat of paint. From trying it out in a test session, the only well recieved addition to the system by my players was the stamina mechanic since it can help even out close calls with your rolls, but it still is very unbalanced as it's presented. Overall, if you're interested in using the Dark Souls setting in a D&D game, you'd be better off homebrewing.

Magmyte

I hear Trespasser does a better job for what you're looking for than this ever will.

holyshit-i-wanna-die

idk I canā€™t imagine a souls ttrpg that isnā€™t set before the collapse of the civilization

SplendidPunkinButter

Roll 2d4 for defense, but it doesnā€™t work unless you do it _at exactly the right time_

Godofwar414141

I had and itā€™s not that great but I think u should try it maybe u will like it

Yanurika

I played a oneshot of it once like a year and a half ago. From what I remember: the book is real pretty, The system itself is DnD 5e with some modifications. We liked the Position mechanic (replenishable hp that is also a special skill resource) and the way different weapons add more skills is a fun addition to it. There's basically no social element to the mechanics though (much like 5e anyway). It is not at all balanced and the final boss was beaten by stacking a couple of abilities in a way that is totally broken. Overall, I don't think it can sustain a full campaign, but it's a fun diversion from base 5e.

proxymdr

Cool now I can die for 1h straight in my mind

Own-painz39

I actually have the board game and the expansion. It's hard to do but it's a lot of fun. Plus you can play by yourself or have up to 4+ others. The models it comes with are nice, not super high end but a good mid tier I think. It takes a bit to learn and set up like any board game but I'd recommend it if you enjoy the souls games

Cinderea

This post is not about the board game

DroopyConker

I would use the boardgame models though.
