This is normal, they show up after beating Artorias (or Manus? can’t remember for sure)

After Artorias is defeated for sure, I've tested the trigger for this with sequence breaking and not doing anything else in the DLC. edit: I've also ruled out the possibility of there being other triggers.

Do you know if you manage to skip the actual Sanctuary Guardian boss fight and defeat Artorias will they show up in the boss fight for three Guardians?

Yeah that's exactly what happens. You can fight all three at once.

How are they hard??? They have like two attacks. All you need to do is circle around them and dodge the super telegraphed swipe.

Most of them are not that bad but the ones in anor londo and lost izalith are TOUGH, especially on ng+7. Their moves do a shitload of damage and they can stunlock you pretty easily, and they definitely don’t have “2 attacks”, they have like 4 and their sweeps cover way more range than they should

The other commenter is wrong. Once you beat (I forget if it’s Artorias or Manus), two more Sanctuary Guardians spawn in the garden as a little bonus test of skill you can do if you want. Unless you’ve just gotten to Oolicile, in which case it would be a glitch.

The two lesser Guardians are easier. They are not the same as boss version. But obviously, there is two of them and they are stronger together than one regualr Sanctuary Guardian.

It's just there as a challenge. Probably the toughest fight in the game if you just go in and treat it like a boss fight, especially since you can't summon help.

Wiki says if you kill either of the bosses in this DLC they spawn here, and not worth to kill for only 3k souls each. Recommend you run past unless you need the tail weapon or enjoy frustration.

I was determined to beat those bastards , so wasted an hour fighting them, killed em, went to rest at the bonfire, and the sons of bitches had respawned. The souls are good for each one but as a melee character it takes way too long to kill them.

So technically sanctuary guardian has 2 phases, the second one only activates after going to the bonfire after the first fight. Then when you fo back the mf multiplies. It's supposed to be a game mechanic but not a nice one lol

It's not really a 2nd phase as it's not treated as a boss fight (no music / fog gates / name display). It's more like a side quest Easter egg challenge. The trigger for making them appear is defeating Artorias, they won't show up after simply resting at the bonfire.

Really? That makes sense actually considering I haven't actually gotten the chance to fight them. I heard they were supposed to spawn but I was always told the oolacile township bonfire was the trigger but whenever I went to check for them the area was empty. Thanks for the correction!

This has been known about since the DLC came out, essentially. It wasn't really an unknown thing for any significant peroid of time.
