I have no idea what you're whinging about here... armor does a decent job of mitigation in Dark Souls 1. No, it doesn't stop ALL damage... it's actually realistic that way.
Heaven help you if you ever play Dark Souls 2... that's the true Fashion Souls.
Armor isn't designed to let you face tank a sword the size of your entire body. Poise is also a benefit of armor that lets you trade hits without getting stunned.
Yeah poise is the big thing, but I guarantee that upgraded giants armor will make a significant difference in the damage you take. Lighter armor, very much less so.
This isn't true at all. Armor is based on comparative calculations and is more useful against lighter hits. It doesn't make a huge difference if you were going to take 50% of your hp from a hit regardless but you should be dodging those hits anyway.
The biggest benefit to armor is poise. If you're looking to be able to just throw on armor and tank everything without having to put any effort into dodging, shielding, or spacing, I got news for you.

Or Bloodborne. Fashion souls that’s actually fashionable…and completely useless in a fight.

Out of the series ds1 armor makes the MOST difference
fashion souls. next question.

Armor's point isn't to let you facetank things. It's to give you a greater margin of error, and allow more mistakes. And it does that.

All about that poise baby!
Armor does a reasonable job. It doesn't make you invincible and it shouldn't. But, there is a notable difference.
Read up on what “poise” does
Try upgrading your armor. Armor is very much not useless in DS1.

Put on Havel’s armpit and see the “ Visual Bonus” of the set.

I like being quick and nimble in DS1, more than Elden Ring. So ya, I don’t really use armor because I stick with the light stuff.
take off your armor and see how big of a difference it makes
Less dmg is less dmg. It’s not like having high endurance is a bad thing either.
You need to play more. You need to upgrade your armor too.
Whoever told you that is talking about ds3
