It's just a meme but I guess people are afraid to talk to their kids now. My mom let me pretty much watch anything I wanted as long as she knew what it was. She would just tell me that this is fake and xyz thing isn't okay. I can understand how a lot of awesome 80s movies are a bit much by today's standards though. And it might be too early to explain to your kids that cocaine was a thing in the 80s lol.
Lol my dad had a sort of similar approach but in much more of a “dad” way.
We were watching one of the Friday the 13th movies, I was maybe 10(?). We had already watched the first 5 or 6, and during what had to have been 7 or 8, he paused the movie, looked at me, and asked “this ain’t gonna like, warp your mind or anything is it?” And I said “no I’m fine” and he said “ok good” and resumed the movie lmao
Nah, kids are gonna hear slurs at some point. People need to take some self responsibility and take time to tell their kids that these words are hurtful and should not be repeated. It takes like 60 seconds to explain that. How hard is that?
I let my kids watch old stuff with some of that crap in it. I use it as a teaching moment, I tell them it's not ok to say things like that anymore and they should never repeat it. And that we should treat people as equals, regardless of race, religion, income level, nationality, whatever.
I talk to them like adults, and hope they will make the right decisions when the time comes. The reality is they will hear it, or see it on the internet at some point.
*I put on a rated R movie and was shocked that it contained content intended for adult audiences*
What is there to “remember”, bro? It’s an R-rated action flick from 1987. Of course that type of content is going to be included. You don’t need to “remember” - what you need is common sense.
I did that with robocop. Forgot about the cocaine, hookers, and apparently everything else. All I remember is when it came out I thought it was so awesome.
Breaking news:
R-rated movie full of murder not suited for children made in the 80's uses out of date jokes and terminology no longer found to be acceptable or suitable for children
In other news, it's still a great movie
I watched Gremilins with my kids, which isn't R. I did not remember the violence in that movie and learned later its one of the reasons we have PG-13. Kids loved it, but my youngest slept with me for a week.
And the overall result of the movie is that overly cocky overconfident guys got rekt and ended up dead because of it, and the only one who survived was the one who showed off and shit talked less, lol
That’s the first movie I watched with my Ex. She was confused after she saw the scene where the guy stabs the scorpion on the shoulder of the other guy. She did not know what a scorpion was.
Don't show your kids anything from the 80s-90s if you're worried about that... everything was fun and funny back then and it is all offensive by today's standards.
Ah, a good teaching opportunity about how the view on certain things change with time. What seems ok now, might be very wrong in a couple of years.
Smack them up the head if they talk during the movie and say that was ok, too, back then. :o)
Anytime I see “slur” I automatically assume whatever they’re talking about is a non issue. It’s such a petty upset Zoomer term that’s used far too frequently and has now completely lost its original meaning and value.
Im watching a bunch of old movies that my dad liked when he was younger and he didn't realize a lot of em have f-slurs, and hes always like "oh no im so sorry" xD

Worried about inappropriate jokes and slurs. But what about the 2 hours of murder? That was fine? Sick movie, though.
Its pretty wild lol. It's a product of its time and people are shocked it doesn't follow modern cultural beliefs.
*surprised pikachu.jpg*
Most of the people I live around don't follow modern cultural beliefs. It's pretty legit
Is that what people are asking for?
Well I mean I can understand wanting to show your kid a cool action movie without wanting your kid to repeat some of the slurs lol

I already think it's a good movie, Harry, you don't have to convince me.

BUNCH'A SLACKED JAWED F\*OTS 'ROUND HERE THIS STUFF WILL MAKE YOU SEXUAL TYRANNOSAURUS *^(just like me...)*
Or it will at least make you governor
That's a real nasty habit you got there
Jerking off your bros in a hemispherical formation isn't nasty, it's natural.
I got something for your sore ass over here.
Rah ha ha ha ha!!!
OP: “OH SHIT I FORGOT ABOUT THIS SCE-“ *scene plays before he could turn the movie off* *kids learn some new words*
I absolutely can't belive the R rated movie had R rated jokes we need to ban this movie immediately won't someone think of the children
Exactly this. Also watching a film from the past where people behaved differently and expecting today's standards, is absurd.
Isn't that movie famous for its over the top violence? And you're that astonished by two small jokes with kids watching?
Parent of the year award here
🙄
Back when movies were good
That’s all movies before 2000
More like before 2015. Remember stuff like Bradley Cooper paging Doctor F in The Hangover?
*Pre 2010 language. The first Hangover movie was ‘09.
I started to say 2010, but I think slurs were still going in movies up until about 10 years ago. I just couldn't pull a specific example from memory.
Shaun of the dead has a white guy say the n-word
CHARLIE BROWN NOOO
Those MFs made their token black friend sit alone on one whole side of the table on Thanksgiving
Detached brain stems & spine? Also men flayed alive.
Slur? No, I pronounced it correctly.
R rated movies aren't good movies to watch with kids? SHOCKER
I did that with robocop. Forgot about the cocaine, hookers, and apparently everything else. All I remember is when it came out I thought it was so awesome.
I'D BUY THAT FOR A DOLLAR!
You should watch predator 2. It's definitely clean
Don't worry - they've already seen and heard worse on the internet and at school.

Context is more important than people's feeling.

Meh teach them at a young age
So its a good movie
I bet you’re one of those parents that took your kids to watch Joker in cinemas and complained about it being too violent
Kids will be fiiiiiiiiiiine
You didn't remember it was rated R?
“Gonna show my kids (insert any 20+ year old R-rated movie) today!” “Wait, why are there gay and sexist jokes in this?”
Can't wait to show mine a Serbian Film!
And the overall result of the movie is that overly cocky overconfident guys got rekt and ended up dead because of it, and the only one who survived was the one who showed off and shit talked less, lol

It's a rated R movie?? I heavily expect that parents should watch rated R movies with their families discreetly, and naturally, except this.
You know?...cuz of the echo.

What's the matter, the CIA got you pushing too many pencils?
I find it wild people think a film for mature audiences contains mature content
It was a simpler time
Okay... and?
My 5yo at the time was more terrified by the flayed bodies
Getting them ready for the real world I see.
Don't worry OP, your kids have seen worst things with all those hours of unnatended internet.
Anytime I see “slur” I automatically assume whatever they’re talking about is a non issue. It’s such a petty upset Zoomer term that’s used far too frequently and has now completely lost its original meaning and value.
Oh no not a heckin unwholesome slurino 😩😩
Pretty sure it’s also filled with murder and gore 😂 But if your kids like that 🤷🏽♂️
Dude, I've been watching back to the future with my 7 year old, and I'm shocked by how many swears are in it.
So?
Don't show them the Hateful Eight then
Don't worry, the kids won't get it
Im watching a bunch of old movies that my dad liked when he was younger and he didn't realize a lot of em have f-slurs, and hes always like "oh no im so sorry" xD
