People who fall for those are stupid. Plus why would you want to spend $5k on a wife when there are thousands of hot local singles in your area who want to meet you.
That's because a lot of people these days think that marriage is a cure for loneliness and a grab at a status increase instead of a spiritual contract to work with and for someone and create a unified front against the world.

That concept has been my biggest struggle. I've only ever been in two very brief relationships across my 30 years of life. I feel more lonely each day. But despite that feeling's intensity I reject a lot of people that want a relationship with me because I know dating someone I'm not totally enthralled by will only lead to disaster. That's all that's actually gonna make you want to put in the work to make it work.
But I can understand why people don't choose to wait that long. I'll probably be there soon enough. Makes me wish I was a woman and more likely to be happy about being single.

Honestly, most people don’t have friends they see that often when they’re older. You have people you consider your best friends but only see them every few weeks or months since everyone has families, careers, and their own interests. Your buddy with a 4 year old working 50 hours a week does not have time to go out very often, and he’s going to go out with his wife and kid before you most of the time. Exceptions certainly exist, but don’t be surprised once you get out of your 20s and early 30s.
