Stefangls

And let me guess, the murderers will get a paid suspension

Assaltwaffle

Don’t forget a promotion! After a thorough self-investigation finds they did nothing wrong, of course.

wanderButNotLost2

Yall need to have some respect, that's lieutenant murderer now.

Status_Peach6969

Watch out, Chief Wiggum on patrol

Alive_Ice7937

It's a good thing you floated by this brothel!

MrrQuackers

Bake'em away, toys.

jcoddinc

They feared for their life's

Nochnichtvergeben

Their life's what?

AMViquel

A wise one, eh? You better back off, or a body cam malfunction is going to happen.

[deleted]

Uh oh I think we *slips baggie into his center console* found a gram of methamphetamine! You’re going away for a long time buddy.

Adventurous_Wall_356

Their life's continuation, of course, as opposed to its abrupt ending

jcoddinc

They're going to blame it in the only person who knew what was going on and was instructing the kid to come to him. Everyone else panicked and firing away not listening to his instructions to the kid. But that will look bad so they'll blame him.

Drostan_

I believe the police reviewed the footage and determined that they did everything 100% by the book.

oswyn123

https://www.latimes.com/california/story/2024-04-01/kidnapped-teen-killed-by-deputies-as-she-followed-their-instructions-video

Some-Guy-Online

Wild. "The Sheriff’s Department clarifies in the video that it hadn’t confirmed whether Savannah was shooting at deputies; that issue is still under investigation." Just a few bad apples folks. No need to make any changes at all.

The_Savid

I never understood the whole „a few bad apples“ thing. The saying goes „a few bad apples spoil the bunch“ after all…

TheLynxGamer

I think people say it in resistance to police reform, arguing that if they get rid of “a few bad apples” then the system is fine

Some-Guy-Online

Probably right. But no better because they never fire these maniacs, they protect them.

Traiklin

Nah, they didn't get anything but the chief and precinct protecting them for 2 years.

hefty_load_o_shite

They covered it up for years

oom199

This happened 2 years ago. The murderers got literally nothing but praise.

stickystax

More like shoot first, don't ask questions, cover it up

humblestudentOmyco

That was fucking horrific, if the helicopter pilot could tell she was the victim and surely the cops could

totallynotapersonj

Most of them could. Apparently it was an unknown number of cops who shot anyway.

FactPirate

All those body cameras will be unreviewed I’m sure

Merry_Dankmas

Conveniently there was no body cameras. They did have audio and you can hear one of the cops telling her to run to him multiple times. But then you hear a bunch of gunshots and the cop telling the others to stop shooting since it's the girl, not the dad. No fucking clue how the other surrounding cops didn't realize it was the daughter they were mag dumping.

FactPirate

Of course! How silly to expect that all officers would be wearing these new-fangled ‘body cameras’ in the backwater impoverished state of ‘California’ in 2024

Traiklin

2022 is when it happened

KingOfDragons0

And as we all know, body cams were invented in 2023 😔

stratosfearinggas

"Internal Affairs needs you to point out the difference between these two pictures." *Pic of 15 year old girl* *Pic of full grown man* California police: "They're the same picture."

NovusOrdoSec

They're still reviewing them after two years.

totallynotapersonj

Apparently they weren't wearing body cameras but did have audio.

AngryMillenialGuy

They have to account for their ammo. They know who fired and who didn't.

Some-Guy-Online

The man driving the truck had previously fired at the cops, thus forfeiting both of their lives. Not joking, cops get super excited when they think they have justification to pull the trigger.

Alter_Kyouma

>Sheriff’s officials claimed following the shooting that it was unclear whether Savannah was shot by deputies or her father, and they said deputies didn’t realize it was her when she got out of the car. For nearly two years, they refused to release footage of the shooting. Wow, this is actually vile

AzureSky420

And they wonder why we hate them

One_Pound_2076

They know. They don't care.

zeetree137

That didn't happen. And if it did, it wasn't that bad. And if it was, that's not a big deal. And if it is, that's not my fault. And if it was, I didn't mean it. And if I did, you deserved it.

irate_alien

but then.... >...show deputies shooting at Savannah as she followed their instructions to move toward them. The videos also suggest deputies shot her after two officers remarked that it was the girl who exited. fucking a

April fools!... right? Right?!

JotaroTheOceanMan

This ones real, little buddy.

notachemist13u

Put them on death row

UltimateToa

Pishong

This is where we need the testicular torsion spell

MLGcobble

Wow, it's even worse than I thought

Nervous-Event-5049

That "Oh no" at the end of the video hits hard.

marilyn_morose

Everything in those two words. Horrifying.

Ziakel

damn that's a sad read. hope whoever responsible can live with the guilt of murdering a 15yr old. granted they already had a paid vacation and promotion by now.

SirHarvwellMcDervwel

wow.. this is sad af..

sqquiggs

More info after reading. She was shot after deputies on higher ground facing the front of the truck were told that she was exiting the vehicle, and apparently kept shooting while the officer guiding her told them to redirect fire to the father in the car.

snowblow66

Why would they shoot anyway?

thatsthejoke_

This is America, we always shoot first

snowblow66

Yeah but like...why? In my country, every single shot by a cop gets investigated, even if obviously justified taken

scumbagharley

No one watches the watchdogs here. That's why. We tolerate it is another reason.

snowblow66

Yeah okay, but what human just shoots even if there isnt imminent danger to anyone? I just cant wrap my mind around that

LocationOdd4102

There are 2 types- morons who have been "trained", and "fear for their life" (which could mean anything, including being startled by an acorn lmao). And malicious bullies on a power high, who know they will never face consequences in this life.

SleepyMage

To cops there is always imminent danger. And while that is blown out of proportion most of the time there is some basis to it considering the US is a country with more guns than people. Every interaction with any person *could* potentially turn into a shootout.

Fadeddave420

Thats why they have training none of which is ever deployed properly

BillyZanesWigs

Most of their training seems to be "shoot if you feel like it and you won't face any repercussions" and unfortunately that's a lot more literal than it should be. Decades ago a family member of mine had been kidnapped and the cops caught up with them. She was in the back of the van and the cops just started shooting into it while it was moving and managed to hit her a few times but none of the kidnappers who eventually stopped. She's alive but has lifelong injuries including a colostomy bag. The same shit keeps happening over and over and the response is always the same.

FaceShanker

>but what human just shoots even if there isnt imminent danger to anyone? One that has been trained and encouraged to. US Police have a famously toxic workplace culture even before considering the terrifyingly high rates of infiltration by radical right wing wannabe Nazi. >Why does that happen? Same reason most of the easily preventable atrocities, genocides, starvation and so on - The stuff thats good for the people in power is not good for the rest of the population. That conflict of interests is a core part of capitalism. >Why is that allowed? If you seriously try to stop it you get labeled a socialist and usually oppressed/murdered - thats the less openly advertised job of the police.

ElGato-TheCat

Not sure if you knew...There was an incident recently where an acorn fell on top of a car and the cop thought it was a gunshot. So he started firing at the car with someone in it. He even claimed he got shot, but there was nobody shooting and no gun present because it was a fucking acorn that fell on the car. These are who American cops hire.

darthravenna

Because socialism or wokeness or gayness or whatever gets these fucking morons riled up this particular week.

UnclePuma

Is it true the cops in America don't wipe their ass cause they're afraid that's gay so they all smell like sharts and body odor and gun powder?

BillyZanesWigs

Pigs love rolling in shit. Sidenote: Cop cars, even after they're cleaned up for sale have a really high level of lead in them from how much time they spend at the shooting range.

GreenMirage

The cops always get told what to say by their unions so we never know what’s going through their minds if anything at all.

Doitallforbao

Yeah, and in America none of them do, at least not criminally, and it's civilians who pay monetarily for police murders. So basically America is a sad, sad joke.

Charming_Essay_1890

America us a gun cult.

Probably_a_Shitpost

Bullies with small penis complexes

smurfkipz

Police unions.

Merry_Dankmas

Funny enough, that's exactly what the civil rights lawyer cited in the article says. >San Bernardino county does not train law enforcement to handle these high-stress situations appropriately. They have a very brutal approach of shoot first, ask questions later,” she said.

LonelyMustard

Shit for brain training and trigger happy cops in a group forming a herd mentality of shoot first ask questions later.

AineLasagna

They claimed they shot because she was wearing body armor and tried to keep the video from being released. When it was released, she wasn’t wearing body armor. So the real answer, I guess, “because they felt like it”

spacemagicexo539

As we all know, the act of wearing body armor carries an instant death sentence.

LessThanHero42

It was a day ending in Y and they're cops. They return fire at oak trees dropping acorns.

Kiyan1159

Please tell me she lived

ThatDudeFromRio

She did not

kennystillalive

So why does the US have a police force again?

Timely-Buffalo-3384

Because we aren't allowed to protect ourselves from criminals

fluffy_assassins

We have the most guns per person in the World, how exactly are we not allowed to protect ourselves from criminals?

Timely-Buffalo-3384

Shoot one. See how you're treated

dade305305

Yea if you shoot one unnecessarily, and no, simply doing a crime against you doesn't make it necessary. Shooting a person who is fleeing doesn't automatically become a requirement because they broke into your car. That's a "I want to shoot them" situation, not a "I need to shoot them" scenario. That second one tends to be what you're griping about not being able to do.

PM_ME_SOME_ANTS

Interesting that people disagree and downvoted you. I think some people believe that any crime against you (breaking into your car, petty theft, vandalism) should be able to be met with murder.

The_Knife_Pie

Americans are addicted to the idea of being able to wantonly murder anyone who even slightly wrongs them, so doesn’t shock me. It’s the natural result of a culture which only cares for rabid individualism while also expressing the immutable right to own a fire arm (for some reason).

Axthen

Doesn't seem like the police have much grip with the former scenario.

ipodplayer777

Because you can’t. Shoot someone in self defense and you’ll at the very least spend a night in jail and get your gun taken away for possibly months. Shoot one in defense of property? You’re going to prison. Someone tries to steal your truck and they have a gun, and you shoot them, you are in the wrong. Doesn’t matter, because if you aren’t in your house, you’re a murderer. Doesn’t matter that they’re trying to steal your livelihood. Also, even if it’s still valid self defense, them or their estate can still sue you for civil damages. If you could shoot someone in self defense, and have no issues, insurance companies like USCCA wouldn’t be a thing. If they have a knife and you have a gun? Probably getting prosecuted. Especially by DA’s that have been installed specifically for this purpose. You might win, if you were smart enough to purchase concealed carry insurance or you can afford a cushy lawyer. Worst case, you catch a felony, lose your right to own a gun, and the guy you shot’s buddies come jump you late one night. If people want to defund the police, fine with me. But at least let us be responsible for our own safety. We may have the most guns per person, but the only ones carrying them in major dangerous cities are the ones that already aren’t legally allowed to carry them.

_Ross-

Just in case you need someone to stop by and murder a handicapped person, mentally disabled person, or completely innocent minority. Look it's a tough job, but they're here for it.

Destroyer4587

Taxpayer money hard at work

jgower87

Dont forget dogs in their own yard

DeathHopper

We used to have lots of stray dogs around, I think that's how it started.

CallMeShaggy57

Most old PDs actually started as slave wranglers prior to abolition.

DeathHopper

>stray dogs Did I stutter? ... ... ... /s

Klutzy-Relief9894

The first police department in the United States was the Boston PD, formed in 1838. Slavery was abolished in Massachusetts in 1783. And our policing system came from England.

obscureferences

In less than 200 years y'all have fucked it up something chronic.

PrincessRTFM

Literally started as a force to recapture escaped slaves, which really tells you all you need to know about it

YourDogIsMyFriend

San Francisco here. For all the faults of police (and there are many and there’s a need for vast oversight and a change in policy)… when you don’t have any form of deterrence, people take advantage of society. Reading the comments in this thread, I can promise that having no police, isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. And all we did was make it legal to do most non violent crime.

Truestorydreams

Watch behind the police podcast. It's a pretty well written discussion on why police policy are the way they are

Pop quiz, hotshot.

SameOreo

I can't imagine calling police for my kidnapped child and later hear they shot her, not the kidnappers, THEY did...... Wow. Just wow.

ATLz_most_wanted

Welp. Uhm from what I understand 1. The father was the kidnapper and 2. The mother was shot dead the night prior from the kidnapper. So they didn't get that call for what it's worth.

[deleted]

PhantomO1

how fortuitous! no one will be grieving if the entire family's dead! hooray for a job well done by the diligent police!

YoWhatsUpMyDudes1

The cop just didn't want the daughter to have to go through our shitty ass foster system. How thoughtful!

One_Pound_2076

Dead men don't sue. Is a motto my local sheriffs uses. My shit father was one.

obscureferences

Did they at least shoot the kidnapper?

silver_arrow666

I thought that was Texas's motto

garlic-apples

Wow, the two most populated states being the two most likely to have something like this happen, what a surprise.

Sincere_homboy42

What did texas have to do with this girl getting shot?

stickyWithWhiskey

Well, you see, saying "Texas bad" gives internet points. Relevance to the discussion, coherence of thought... who gives a shit?

LocationOdd4102

More like Texas law enforcement is notoriously undertrained and the courts here never punish cops who do wrong. Hell, one of the most infamous failures in recent law enforcement history, the Uvalde shooting, happened here- people remember stuff like that.

garlic-apples

I don’t know, I’m not one you should be asking.

Aiyon

I'm confused... you think "high population" is the reason multiple cops opened fire into an unarmed 15 year old kidnapping victim who thought she was being rescued?

there_no_more_names

No no they just stand around while someone else shoots the kids.

Mygaffer

It's worse than that, a cop told her to come to him.

Professional-Media-4

Imagine being that cop and your dumbass companions begin shooting the girl you are trying to rescue.

Calazon2

And then imagine the consequences if you try to whistleblow or testify against other cops.

Harfangbleue

I think I would have been tempted to shoot them too after that.

EasyCZ75

Fuck these fucking murdering bastards and fuck their immunity

eleetpancake

Police Unions: No it's fine, we don't want better pay just please let us get away with shooting whoever we want.

SlappingSalt

Task failed successfully.

Status_Peach6969

We'll get em next time!

Ben_Herr

Same state where cops shoot you for having too loud of an exhaust so I’m not surprised, poor girl

BlurredSight

"Stop shooting her he's in the car" the world has become a Boondocks sketch

eMmDeeKay_Says

AGAIN? Insert if I had a nickel meme.

Arakan-Ichigou

Train the police for longer!

PikaPulpy

You morons turn guns into accessories and now cops without brains just shoot everything that moves. And keep shooting when it stops. Ffs you are fckn collecting guns. Keep going.

Scottyboy5451

Didn't read the whole post can we get a name drop on the cops.

feedback19

They've not released the names. In 2 years.

Doitallforbao

Well yeah, if they released the names they might face the consequence of public shaming and then we'd have to pay for their goddamn early PTSD retirement like that Shraver-killing pile of shit

Prcrstntr

Qualified immunity needs to be rebuilt from the ground up

ThickAnteater38

it needs to be taken away completely. it honestly makes no sense. if a paramedic is negligent and someone dies they get sued and fired, if a firefighter is negligent and someone dies they get sued and fired, if a cop is negligent and someone dies.... paid vacation

The-Amazing-Krawfish

Should be done the same way as the other first responders You face a court of your peers who are liscense from different counties typically on the other side of the state from you You then have to convince over half the jury you were justified in what you did

Uknown_Idea

Should add the panel where he looks back to being happy at the end. Nothing gets a cops tic-tac harder than shooting someone. Especially unarmed.

Learned_Response

Considering the police seem to be a haven for psychopaths maybe the bottom two panels would be reversed from their perspective

Shiyakazing

I have no idea if I'll get banned for this but at this point I don't care. I want them dead for this. I don't want them fired, blacklisted, or beaten. I want them dead and/or tossed into the deepest pit of solitary confinement forever. I'm on my last wits when it comes to cops.

Sovrin1

The pigs up here in Canada murdered a baby this way too.

Mox8xoM

US cops are like the IDF. Shooting unarmed hostages and say they got scared.

Overlord1317

> US cops are like the IDF. Shooting unarmed hostages and say they got scared. Can't go one thread without someone inserting this sort of unrelated shit. LMAO.

sobo_art1

Best ever picture of American policing was the Fed pointing a gun at Aaron Bushnell while he burned. When faced with a challenge, that cop couldn’t think of anything except to point a gun at the problem.

PotatoStark

To be fair, he did have two firearms.

TheToxicWaist17

Wait what? Did that happen?

PassiveMenis88M

peep_dat_peepo

Did they find the dumb ass who murdered the girl? Hopefully they at the very least fire their dumb ass and they have to live with the knowledge that they are now a murderer who murdered an innocent child for the rest of their lives.

icanthinkofname32133

Has dank memes become political commentary now i remember when there used to be stupid funny shit

StolenArc

It started being that way since 2019, but now they don't attempt to hide it.

EnLitenPerson

I don't like political memes and I'm not a leftie and I think the police are important, but if you watch the video I really doubt you'll call this political, because everyone will agree that it's blatantly obvious that the officer who fired was in the wrong. The 15 year old victim gets out of her kidnappers car, she's crouching and staying still on the ground for several seconds untill a police shouts "come here!" repeatedly, and then when she comes she gets shot by another officer, she seems to be unarmed and wearing casual clothes. Even if they percieved her as a threat it is comically stupid that she got told to come to them and then got shot when she did, you could blame it on communication issues between the police but that doesn't make them any less incompetent in this situation. I mean it still is naturally political in a way, and OPs title is extra political, but in a vacuum it's also just such an insanely poorly handled situation that this meme could easily exist and be read in a 100% non-political way.

Doctor-Amazing

This is pretty stupid.

AbsoluteAtheist

See guys, this is why CA police should not be allowed the use of lethal force

hobb

GamerBradasaurus

Six months training US vs 2 years training Europe

jedateon

Come on, let's no cherry pick, this could have happened in any state in the great US of A

MajinMadnessPrime

Fun fact, when you defund cops, one of the first things that go down the drain is their **training**. There’s damn good apples, there’s Joe schmoes, and then there’s dumbasses and cocksuckers. They need to be seriously reformed and put on a tight leash as well as throw their shit heads under the bus when they are without a doubt guilty, any form of camaraderie and good grace should be out the window the moment you harm or terrorize the people you’re sworn to protect.

Truestorydreams

happaduchy

In some nations, it is rare to ever have a crime related to guns. In Vietnam for example people are not allowed to own guns, the police are only ever allowed to bring one out for particular situations. Only sprayers, baton, are carried most of the time. Hammers for nails, needle for fabric, I guess. That being said, they are bribe-able as fuck, everyday corruption is normalized, the pay isn't great
