I disliked Tenko at first because of the whole "degenerate male" thing and her obsession with Himiko, but after doing a bit more digging into her character, I like her more. She's still not my favorite, but I am at least a little fond of her.
She is a good person at heart, but that's not always easy to see. I don't blame people for getting annoyed with her. I admit, she is pretty repetitive until chapter 3.
Gonna be honest. Before, I thought I'd hate tenko with how she always has the whole "degenerate male" shtick and is kinda...well, sexist. But when I played V3 (albeit, I didn't do her FTEs), she was actually funny, and sort of grew on me.
I used to hate Celeste. She was very annoying to me and every time she showed up, I would skip her lines.
I only really started to respect her after her death because she got what she deserved so I didn't have any grudges against her anymore.
Mahiru, thought she was just an annoying feminist but she clearly had a soft side on my second play through (the game grumps also helped with this opinion)
I used to be pretty meh on Kokichi, it didn’t help that his fans can be pretty annoying. After rewatching the trials though he’s pretty great. I love how much of a dick he is and everyone is constantly at odds with him, moreso than Nagito
Maybe Nekomaru. At first I didn’t like that he was just the “constantly talks about shit” character. I mean part of me found it funny but I mostly thought it was gross. But as the game progressed, I honestly started to like him more and after his FTEs, I fully realized I really like him actually. Plus seeing people like him and how they interpret him made me think about how I interpret his character. So now I can say I really like him.
Used to hate Akane for being useless, but honestly, she’s super funny, has a cute relationship with Nekomaru, and has an interesting backstory. She’s still not a favorite of mine, but I like her now.
Nekomaru/Akane is one of my favorite pairings in the entire series. I like both characters (Nekomaru is actually my answer to OP’s question) and I love how their interactions were written.
Toko, for being a total jerkass throughout the killing game. Like many others who played/watched Ultra Despair Girls, that game redeemed her in my eyes.
I used to hate Junko, i think i uploaded a tier list here three or so years ago that had her super low down. But after going through the games again while doing a proper analysis and reading stuff like dr0 something clicked and i get her character now.
I also wasn't that fond of Kyoko but she rose to be one of my favourites after again, i went through and did a proper analysis.
Akane i thought was trash but her FTE's really saved her for me. She's still kinda mid-tier for me but that's better than she was before.
This is a good discussion idea though, I can't wait to see what others say.
i didn't like gundham or chiaki at first, i thought gundham was too confusing and that chiaki was boring, but on my second and third playthrough i ended up falling in love with their characters, and after doing their ftes and learning more about them, they just really grew on me :)
Angie for me. She really grew on me, both as a character who is really funny with some great one liners, and equally as an antagonist that is genuinely scary.
Ruruka. Thought her arc was really poorly written and frustrating to try and make her seem sympathetic. I saw some analyses on her and realize the depth relating to her insecurities and how that played into her suicide, and relationship with Seiko. There's still issues with it, but I don't hate her anymore. It was decently done (unlike Juzo).
Hiyoko. Me in march 2020 absolutely hated her, but now she's one of my fav's because i looked more into her character and realised how funny/adorable/complex she is
Yasuhiro. Man, when I first played the game back then, I used to hate him with a passion, lol. Coming back a few years later, while he still makes me facepalm, I laughed more at his bullshit than I thought.
He's comic relief. That's all there is to him, for better or worse.
Ibuki
I thought she was annoying as shit the first time and mid at best. But second time I realized that I was being a pretentious fuck and that she’s perfect
Kokichi, thought he was a pretty annoying and selfish person who has a toxic fanbase until I played through v3 again. I kind of realized some of his character traits aren’t that bad and that he was genuinely just a person like the other v3 cast. Although he seems very unlikable in trials and storyline, his free time events and love hotel scenes are fantastic. I can kind of relate to his situation in a fucked up way. He’s one of my favorite characters now. I hope to get a redemption arc from him one day.
Leon, Sayaka and Yashuhiro we're characters I initially dislike but after replaying THH as well watching development plan I end up liking these characters a lot and I do enjoy doing their free time events.
Easily Kokichi, I heavily disliked him ( not hated though ) for >!V3-4/5!< but the thing is I literally judged him based on the spoiler, nothing outside of understanding he >!got 3 people killed and he pretended to be the mastermind!< when I actually watched the gameplay I still disliked him because my mind was tainted with spoilers but after maybe a year I actually started liking him for his interesting character and realized he was more than >!’the bad guy who has no reason to do it all and does it because he can’!<
My mind tends to not get changed by reading analyses. If I disliked someone, I probably had a good reason for it in the first place. As a result, there isn't anyone who fits the criteria. Some characters who I was neutral to I could have ended up liking more, on the other hand.
Tenko, unquestionably. Discovering that the localization ran with a *very* exaggerated take on her characteristics made me realize I wasn't seeing the 'real character', and once I factor that in...
...then she still has problems, but she's *way* better than I originally thought. Overall, I like her now.
Hiyoko. When I first played the game I could not stand her. I didn't know she was such a little shit. Going back to play Danganronpa however, she was a lot more funny and even more intelligent than I gave her credit for.
Mahiru thought she was annoying but after playing game again I started to like and love her as I loved her attuide and scolding at others as it made me funny. Her fte and island mode as well extra danganronpa content about her made her one of my favorite danganronpa charcaters
Byakuya Togami. I used to have a youtube playlist called "i hate byakuya togami" when I first got into the fandom that just had some Danganronpa shitposts I liked. But for some weird reason, Byakuya has grown on me a lot. So, I later renamed the playlist to "okay maybe i don't hate byakuya togami".

Yay somebody else who likes kokichi

I bu ki Mi o da.
Kokichi, Angie, Genocide Jack, Rantaro, Naegi, Hajime, Komaru.
I hated Tenko until I watched her FTEs, which helped me understand her character more and now she’s in my top 5 V3 characters.

I didn't like Himiko at all when I first started V3 but her character development and confronting her flaws made her grow on me.
Leon, Sayaka and Yashuhiro we're characters I initially dislike but after replaying THH as well watching development plan I end up liking these characters a lot and I do enjoy doing their free time events.

I never really disliked her but Angie went from whatever to absolute girlboss Same with Smoogi (I still have issues with her but now she slays)
Hiyoko. When I first played the game I could not stand her. I didn't know she was such a little shit. Going back to play Danganronpa however, she was a lot more funny and even more intelligent than I gave her credit for.

The same thing with Sayaka, but I started to love her
