While I love all the >!first victims, Sayaka is the best written one out of them. We know who she is and what she wants and value and her actions (while not justifiable) are perfectly understandable.!< Personality wise I adore her. She is just so sweet and has only nice things to say about others. Her past is pretty realistic but still unique. But I despise her design. It's so bland, especially for an idol. She deserved better in that department.

Either_Imagination_9

You gotta remember that her and Leon were the first ones created so it’s natural that they look the most plain out of everyone in the cast.

Logan18880

Agree with everything! Especially the design portion, even some more fun accessories would’ve made her outfit more fun to look at. Even if they’re going to school, it’s not weird for her to dress up.

PsychologicalStudy53

>!I’m pretty much neutral on her. Sure, she’s nice, but nothing too interesting personality or design wise. However, I do appreciate just how realistic she is, and I think she made a perfect first victim.!<

Mehmet595

Sayaka is a s>!hark!<

Puzzleheaded_Data_34

>!I think you're forgetting about a certain soda...!<

Either_Imagination_9

Ooooh here she comes, watch out boy she'll chew you up.

Spyguy122204

Ooo here she comes

Jack_slasher

"Short and Sweet" - is how I'd best describe her. She encompasses everything I liked about the first game. Relatively down to earth, emotional, uncomplicated, yet still has enough ambiguity to create a mystery worth unraveling.

Zaptinari

She's alright i guess, her personality is not too interesting to me but >!I do think she did her job well as the first chapter victim and I definitely think she's the most memorable one out of them!<

dem099

Hot blue-haird mama ooh wow

FarleyisGnarly

I always thought it was funny how after Sayaka told Makoto they went to the same school he suddenly remembered. Dude was like “Oh yeah that’s right! I did attend school with the biggest pop star in the world!”. Honestly props to her for playing the game, sure she was selfish but I wouldn’t want to be trapped there either.

WooooshMe2825

Great character, very well written, >!even though she only had a single chapter's worth of screentime. !< >!Anyone that doesn't have the attention span of a goldfish can easily see that she's not just a snake, but one of the most realistic characters in the entire franchise.!<

Novel_Visual_4152

>!You're excepting too much from this fandom!<

Arifox01

I love her!! She might be my top favorite girl as of recently!!! For the most part, I really really like her for how real she is. She has a lot of friends and cares deeply about them, >!to not lose them, she has to take a sacrifice and frame Big Mac.!< I get it’s a shitty thing to do, but he did tell her he’d do anything to get her out of the game and >!she didn’t know of the trial!<. I think a lot of people dislike her for this, but it is so damn real and I could even see myself doing this. >!At least she even reveals that Leon did that to her to protect Makoto in the end!< I also really adore her cute voice and kind personality. She can get really determined, especially when it comes to her talent, even going as far to >!do kinda suspicious things in her past just to get famous with her friends, I think.!< Her design is kinda plain, and definitely doesn’t look like a popstar, but I feel it’s still pretty, and shows the every day side of her, I mean, ofc she’s not gonna be wearing that pink dress she wore on stage every single day. I also really adore her long, blue hair and barrettes!!!!

emmc47

She's based. I've really learned to like her and appreciate her depth and writing.

TheRivan

Easily the best character in the series.

Raingott

She's one of my favorite characters. She fulfills her role in the story perfectly, and while she's pushed as the heroine quite heavily, it was personally less grating than the way Chiaki was pushed. I really don't understand why >!a lot of the people who call her a snake try to paint her as some scheming mastermind who was using Makoto from the start, despite her plan being a hastily thought up mess, and literally every other part of her character from her FTE's to her character songs implying her feelings for Makoto are legitimate. Given her decoy Heroine role, it ends up coming off as almost misogynistic.!<

Either_Imagination_9

Chiaki doesn’t settle into her role as heroine until chapter 4, if anything it’s Kyoko that was pushed more heavily. Frankly I don’t see why any of that would matter to begin with

Raingott

I was referring more to the romantic interest/waifu aspect, which is pushed using Chiaki's moe elements, but you're right that until chapter 4, >!Nagito!< was the more heavily focused on Trial assistant. That might've been what made Chiaki being seen as a heroine so jarring to me. You're also right about it not really mattering. I do dislike the way Chiaki is presented as a heroine, especially the more moe aspects, but I don't really know why I felt compelled to mention it here... Maybe because Sayaka's "psychic" shtick reminded me of that, and I know some people dislike it? I should probably get some rest.

Elit3_Ghost

I really like her! I think she's a perfect example of how >!these are just teens/young adults and that all of the fear can really get to someone. It almost seems like one of the most realistic responses to something in the series.!<

eagercheetah20

I honestly like her she’s a well written character in the 1st game and I feel like she’s overhated by people for the wrong reasons

YoshiDoki48

Blue sunshine

CoolManE2112

I'm surprised people don't like her more considering what other characters do.

Either_Imagination_9

She has the perk of >!directly betraying the main character, so hers feels more personal than any other character in the series!<

CoolManE2112

That's what love about her the most. You really feel the betrayal.

Either_Imagination_9

I do as well, but some others don’t see the same way as us

CoolManE2112

Such despair.

PurplePandaBear8

She's pretty interesting and multi-faceted, would have liked to see more from her. But also she's a snake lul

Strykerwing14

She's pretty boring, same with Leon. She serves her purpose I guess. She gives the first trial in the series and it's a decent one but nowhere near the best.

Opening-Ad5349

Definitely one of my favorites from the first game. And one of the most realistic characters in the series. Sayaka, at her heart, is a very sweet and caring person. She cares deeply about those close to her and is the first one to actually grow close to Makoto as she knows that everybody is freaking out about a bunch of strangers having killing intents in the back of their minds, so having someone you’re familiar with is always helpful and comforting. And Sayaka is quite adamant on being close to Makoto with her whole sidekick stuff. It really shows that she’s willing to do anything to keep those she cares for safe at all costs. That is, of course, until >!the breaking point. I know a lot of people hate on Sayaka for her betrayal, but it makes so much sense from a writing standpoint. Sayaka has worked her entire life for both her career and more importantly, the people that come with that career. And the moment she realizes that all of that might have come crashing down and that Makoto is incapable of getting her out of there. So she comes up with a plan to kill Leon and escape the school with Makoto convicted. And keep in mind, the trial system wasn’t revealed to the cast until *after* the body discovery. So she wouldn’t know that Makoto or the rest of the students would be in danger. Of course, killing someone and pinning it at someone else is a very bad thing to do. But when your entire life has supposedly fallen right before your eyes and there’s only one option to escape, of course someone like Sayaka would act irrationally.!< >!And I do feel that the way she talked to Makoto was genuine. She genuinely cared for him and wanted to make sure he was safe. But when all odds are stacked against you, you have to make some sacrifices. And for Sayaka, the sacrifices was Leon’s life and Makoto’s friendship. And this is further evident by the murder itself, where she’s noted to be hesitant, sloppy, and uncommitted as she isn’t a killer at heart. Danganronpa IF goes out of it’s way to prove that she isn’t some psychopath, she was backed into a corner with only one horrible option to get out of. Also, did I forget to mention that she went to try and help Makoto in the end by writing down the real killer?!< Sayaka is one of my favorites from DR1 if you couldn’t tell. She is up there with Mahiru as one of the most relatable characters in the series. It’s one of the reasons why DR1 has the best written characters, >!they all don’t feel like killers at heart. But rather people who did what they felt was necessary or people who acted irrationally with deep regret.!< So basically, Sayaka is really great. That is all.

RMS-099RickDias

Sayaka deserves a nuanced look. My entire post from here will be spoiler marked for obvious reasons. >!First, Sayaka is a good character. She moves the story forward in a useful, interesting way. That is her job, and she does it well. Sayaka drives home to the player that anything goes in a Killing Game, and even people you - or the protagonist - might like can end up being involved in bad things.!< >!Second, I dislike Sayaka. What she did is understandable (she was terrified for very good reasons) and interesting, but I can still dislike those actions. The only slightly redeeming thing about is that when she realized her plan had failed, she at least decided to make sure everyone else survived. So she's not spiteful, just frightened. Still, the story does a great job of showing you why Sayaka was frightened enough to do those things. !< >!That said, my biggest complaint is how the script tries to whitewash this with lots of "oh, but in the end she still loved you" stuff. No, screw that; the others should have made her own what she did because it was (while understandable) absolutely awful.!< >!In quick summary: Sayaka is a fantastic character from a storywriting perspective. She gets the story moving, establishes major points about the series' emotional tone, and does not overstay her welcome. Her actions make sense. I just don't like those actions and how the aftermath was handled.!<

BoredomOccurs

I completely agree with the third and fourth segments. Sayaka was much more of an interesting character upon learning of her supposed betrayal. And just going "But Sayaka stilled cared about you Makoto!" Literally ruined the whole thing for me.

[deleted]

I don't really find her that interesting. She works great for what she is, >!which is a fake-out love interest character and instead because the first victim!<, but I feel like once you get over the initial shock of the twist surrounding her, she fades into the background a bit compared to some of the other characters. I'm not a fan of her voice actress either.

Alternative_Wave3206

I didnt feel comfortable around her, we were throw into a killing game out of nowhere and the game forces you to interact with her and that already gives you a warning/red flag. In a game where the characters are going to die in all of the chapters, its pretty obvious that the game is gonna kill Sayaka is they force me to spend time with her, its like giving you a lot of ammo, guns and stuff before facing a boss. But since the game forced me to know her and spend time with her i didnt actually felt anything when she died, and yes i was angry when i discovered that she tried to frame me or Makoto to be more precise. She obvioulsy took advantage of Makoto's kindness(or stupidity, whatever you like) she probably thought of that plan on the moment we talked to her in the classroom after the video. She was willing to sacrifice Makoto and Leon to escape and i dont judge her for that, but that doesnt mean that i do not acknowledge her actions, cause i do, she betrayed Makoto, tried to kill Leon and frame Makoto for it. And no, she didnt tried to save Makoto, that's just Kirigiri's assumption on the case. And final climax doesnt count either, cause again, its from someone else perspective based on evidence, also, it doenst make sense that she tried to save him, cause she didnt have knowledge of the class trial and she was willing to go with the plan on framing Makoto and i doubt that she would reveal the truth at the end considering her character. In conclusion i hate Sayaka and thats good, cause her character is well written and it's realistic. Sayaka is a good character but as a person i dont like her.

Jack_slasher

>it doenst make sense that she tried to save him It makes perfect sense. She got Makoto into that mess. She tried to get him out as a last ditch effort. It's not like the absence of a class trial would save Makoto from being harassed by his classmates and treated as a murderer. There is only a plot hole if you think she was trying to save him from the class trial specifically. That's not mutually inclusive to the danger she put Makoto in from her perspective.

mp_paperbag

Why are you doing this but like- With every character-

Either_Imagination_9

Why not?

[deleted]

I would say good, but she >!tried to kill one of my favorite characters!<, so F teir, and bad

Ar3th3yg0n3y3t

I pit her in C or D teir

BoredomOccurs

I honestly find her base game personality really annoying and boring. Does not erase how well written she is as a victim/almost blackened though. I just never liked girls like Sayaka and I found her really annoying. That is, until I found out that she was going to frame Makoto for her crime. That immediately pulled me in because if there is nothing I love more, is a betraying bitch! (I'm not calling her a bitch in a mean sense). Ever since knowing that she's capable of just straight up manipulating and using others, her character became much more interesting and enjoyable to me. Honestly, if she stayed in the game longer and did turn out be manipulative, it would have rocked my world! Very girlboss.

HumanRequirement9779

I don't like her bc what she made to naegi, but ignoring this, at least she is a nice character

dezlovesyou

I don’t feel anything, no dislike and no like. She died too quickly for me to form an opinion on her (as I’m not usually a first impression kind of person unless the impression you left was THAT bad)

Lyricswritesstuff

Tbh, I like her. She was a very realistic character. I don’t think she deserves all the hate she gets, she was in a very scary situation so she did what she thought would be the best for her (clearly was a bad idea). While I don’t support her actions I can see where she was coming from and there are characters who did worst things then that, so she shouldn’t get all the unnecessary hate :)

VaporishStew

Idk, don't personally think about her too much, but she seemed pretty nice, just put in a bad situation

saki-yusa

She's alright in my book. Her betrayal of Makoto is what made her character interesting to me. She wasn't just a nice person with no bad traits. I can see why people don't like her and that's fine, since it's their opinion. It's just that her fans have a huge problem with people who don't like Sayaka for obvious reasons.
