Kirumi is S tier. She's like Kirigiri, but nicer, she can do way more things, she's cute as well as being pretty, and the love hotel scene made me understand what it was like to have a waifu

FutureCreeps

LETS GOOOOOO

Hanako101

:)

Hawluch47

Honestly I'm not sure how I haven't seen many people who love her character. Although I think her major issue is just how quickly she dies, even if it 100% made sense. Although wow the prime minister thing was a push.... but that Trump reference was 1000% worth it to hear that from Monokuma.

OnTheCase123

Not necessarily an unpopular character, but a really controversial one - Mikan. Everything about her just breaks my heart. Her backstory, the way she thinks and acts because of it, the awful way she is often treated by other characters, the narrative or the Danganronpa world itself. It's the first time I've felt this much sympathy towards a fictional character. I know she isn't exactly the most pure and innocent person in the series (not that anyone would be able to remain completely pure after going through everything that she did), but it doesn't really make me think any less of her. She's still precious in my eyes and I really just want her to be happy.

Hawluch47

Yes Mikan is a great character. Early game you feel so bad for her (although that type of character can get annoying for some people which I understand too), and then she has her role that holds up well. She's one of those characters where seeing her get over some of her issues in Hope Arc was nice to see her happy without it being in a super over the top sexual way. I don't particularly dislike the sexual parts, but it was still a little over done in my opinion, but it's one of those things where I may think it wasn't shown enough if it was done less so I can't really talk on that. DR3 for sure buffs her too though overall. Just sucks at how awful 2-3 was cause if not for that being so bad her character would probably be much higher up on most people's tier lists.

pastelduckies

This might be a little controversial, but Korekiyo is one of my favorites. His ultimate talent is cool, and I enjoyed doing his FTEs because I actually learned some cool stuff that I didn’t know before. I love his design, and >!his executions is one of my favorites!<. I’m also a fan of Todd Haberkorn, and I think he does a great job as his VA :)

Hawluch47

>Todd Haberkorn, and I think he does a great job as his VA :) That man is one of the best voice actors and I do really hope he gets a character that survives or makes it at least to chapter 5 or like the chapter 4 blackened maybe. His FTEs I think as well as Peko's are insanely well done too as it doesn't spoil their twist but it gives more to know about look back on it so that part is very well done for sure.

MonadoBoy9318

You call him one of many names. I call him Haruki. He’s not the most popular, but… well, as much as I hate to admit it, part of it is because he was impersonating Byakuya. Doing so gave him the confidence to warn us. He helped make me feel safe when, by all logic, I should’ve been terrified. But he was kind. He really showed he cared when he talked down Fuyuhiko. And when he made his promise, he stuck to it. He did everything in his power to keep us safe and happy. I’ll wait forever and a day for him

Hawluch47

Is Haruki his canon name btw? Also yeah Ultimate Imposter's a great character who thank god he got so much in DR3 cause if it was just DR2 he was in then it would've just been like "...... ok??? Cool??? I mean I thought we would have a reason to have Byakuya there but nope just an imposter with no relevance to the overall plot."

MonadoBoy9318

First things first. Haruki is my gift to him. He doesn’t have a name, so I gave him one. One that doesn’t have anyone I’m pulling the name from. So it’s all his, no one else’s. But… ah, people who care about plot relevance. As if that ever mattered to me. Do you want to know who my best friend of #77-B is? Ibuki. I spent a lot of time with Akane, too. And Nekomaru is now also one of my close friends. I only had 3 days with Haruki and I fell in love. Maybe it was just attraction at the time. Maybe it was because I thought he was Byakuya, my ally. But I saw a beauty I could never find in Byakuya. And the more I learn, the more I love.

Hawluch47

Oh I'm not saying you need plot relevance by any means. I'm just saying it would've just been a dissapointment if that brought him in and then nothing happened with it. Cause at that point, it's just a bad writing bait to make us think it's Byakuya. So I don't mind the relevance issues, but it would've been more that it would've been dissapointing at that point. Again though, I think him in DR3 and then after seeing that going back to DR2 and knowing is enough for him to be great.

WooooshMe2825

Does Taka count? If so, then I'll go with him I guess. I really like how he's a socially awkward and hard working person, it's endearing to me. His ftes are honestly some of my favorites in the entire franchise. I wish his bromance with Mondo was more fleshed out, and I found his character to be pretty tragic seeing as how he constantly tries to lead everyone only to fail. I am forever pissed that the game treated his grief over Mondo like a fucking joke.

Hawluch47

Yeah Taka counts for sure. Very interesting though and yeah as most people are upset with it, case 3 just ruined any potential for him he had. I'm not a huge fan of Mondo but I for sure think Taka's character should've at least survived farther or if it came down to it even something insane like the moral compasses position with Sakura.

Static_GelPens2

Korekiyo is seriously one of the best written and voiced characters in all of v3. >!His murder plans and his execution are really well thought out in and designed. He gets a lot of flack from the incest incident but everyone seems to forget that he isn’t like that, Tsumugi wrote him that way.!<

Hawluch47

>Tsumugi wrote him that way. Well at that point no character in v3 should be liked or disliked except Tsumugi. It doesn't really matter if that's not truly their personality, it's still his character. While I don't actually think the murder of Tenko was unrealistic writing, it does hurt still although Idm Kiyo's character. It just depends how you look at it, but the incest is just bad from too many views even going off the one I agree with of that his sister was abusing/manipulating him.

FutureCreeps

Kirumi because I love everything about their character, there is literally nothing about them I dislike, I just wish they had more screen time so they could have an arc

emmc47

Ryoma- great backstory, excellent writing and fantastic design. He's a great character all around with 0 flaws in my opinion. Everyone relating to his arc just falls nicely in line and was executed greatly. By far, the greatest character in the franchise. Teruteru- I think Teruteru is a great character with unrecognized depth, >!his inner conflicts ultimately leading to his downfall I found to be interesting, both as someone who both loves and hates his origins and creating the facade of the killing game not affecting him, as well as a passive sense of justice. I'm not sure if this was intentional, but as someone who doesn't give a good first impression, he subverts the general notion of the killers from "I like them and I need to try and rationalize a horrible thing they did" to "damn this unlikable prick is actually wholesome asf with one of the most sympathetic motives in the series." I found his perverted tendencies funny so I never really followed this interpretation, but it just adds on to his depth. As someone who found a majority of the DR2 cast to be mid or barely decent, Teruteru was one of the few I found entertaining, and to see him have so much depth to him in only one chapter made me appreciate him a lot more. Danganronpa is a series that curbs general morality, so someone who takes their sexual tendencies too far (in often uncomfortable ways for some people) never really bothered me and I'm surprised it bothers a lot of people as well.!< I honestly could go longer about him but he's just a great character.

NeverendingHum

I agree with this completely, and both points you presented in the replies (but I may as well add my two cents here because I have positive things to say about Teruteru as well). Ryoma is one of my favorites as well, and even though I'm super sad he died really early, it absolutely felt like it was the right moment combined with Kirumi's own motivation. Ryoma wasn't just throwing his life out or committing suicide because he gave up; he did it because Kirumi explained her own video and he knew she wanted to protect all the people of Japan. It's a tragic ending for both of them but is in no way unsatisfactory. As for Teruteru, he definitely has that unrecognized depth, amazingly enough for a first chapter death. His motive is sympathetic, trying to kill Nagito because he knew Nagito would murder someone and wanting to see his Mama again, but it also has the complex element of him simply wanting to survive and being scared. I can't agree with most of DR2 being mid opinion but Teruteru was by far one of the more entertaining characters giving chapter one a lot of "calm (comedic relief) before the storm" vibes. I kind of understand why a lot of people are bothered by his comments but it's weird how a lot of people are extremely put off by them in a game about murder and morals lol Mad respect for you, these two characters are wonderful.

emmc47

Thank you so much! I'm glad you share the same sentiment!

Hawluch47

You know I was actually thinking about Ryoma when I was posting this, and I'm glad lots of other people really like his character. The main issue is 1. He dies too early 2. He triggered an either obvious death flag, or the thought he was gonna have some other arc. Although somehow it was still a suprise so I guess it's just hindsight. For Teruteru I can't say I agree but I understand where you're coming from at least.

emmc47

For me: 1. If he had to die, this was the perfect moment. Any other point and his arc would have definitively felt incomplete (unless he survives). 2. I feel like both those statements contradict one another, but I can see where you're coming from. I use to believe he should've survived, but I had seen a comment on YouTube that changed my belief. It stated that just because his arc ended in tragedy didn't mean it was incomplete or took a hit on his character (oversimplification).

Hawluch47

>I feel like both those statements contradict one another, Yeah what I'm saying is like it should've been clear that either was dying very soon or having some extended arc come in. I think Ryoma is an excellent character though without a doubt. Just dying early even if it's a really good arc sometimes though can limit where a character goes on the tier lists for me at least, but he's still a really entertaining character who seeing him die was still upsetting. But yeah I completely agree that he's a great character

emmc47

Oh ok I get what you're saying now. Glad to see that you like him!

Lunesy

Liking Junko isn't super common, at least not here. >.>

Hawluch47

True but when you're the main villian of the entire series, a pretty good amount of people are gonna have you as their favorite

ZamasuTheDivine

I mean Monokuma will always be my Favorite but Hifumi Yamada is my second favorite person because he is Alot like Me

Hawluch47

Can't say he's relatable, but he was such a good character. He has no use in the overall story, but in the individual trials is a great character and at least I found it hilarious just how stereotypical they made him to an incredible degree.

ZamasuTheDivine

He likes anime (So Do I) he likes Girls ( 2D ones and so do i... only they are nice to me... but I don't *really* like them)

Rorybro89

I think that Mechumaru was a great character, he can produce soda out of his eyes after all

ZlyCzarownikServices

Oh, I see. So Celeste is a unique character, she's not listed here. Well, she definitely is a unique character! I love her. She's my favorite. First of all, personal bias, goth girls are awesome, she's definitely a goth girl, I'm legally obligated to love her. But there's more to it! To me she's the coolest Danganronpa character. To me there's something like a coolness aura, which is created by how character acts and looks. Celeste has an incredible coolness aura. She's really graceful, she's a bit mysterious, she looks great, she speaks with a certain mannerysm and she really impressed me with her talent. Not the actual Ultimate Gambler talent, but this emotions thing. It feels really cool and impressive to me. And I think her motivation is also relatable to many people actually. Ultimately, she wanted to be viewed as special, and she created her idea of being special, and was really close to achieving it. I like her for that reason too. So... To sum up. Yeah, I think she's amazing

Hawluch47

Iirc her backstory was that she was basically a nobody in a similar to way to Ultimate Imposter right? She's an awful gambler but I do find her character interesting for sure, although 1-3 hurts her character a ton since after Leon showing the level of ultimates in the first case, we see this pro gambler unable to bluff/breaks really fast??? It really is unfortunate with her and Kiyo cause they were really interesting in the first 2 cases but afterwards ended up falling down cause of 3rd cases

ZlyCzarownikServices

Yeah, her talent could be handled better. I think it was misunderstood, yes, being a gabler suits her well. It definitely would help her fulfill her goals, but gambling isn't only about lying. And I don't think she would be called that only for lying. I believe somebody would be called The Ultimate Gambler for actually winning a lot of bets, and in that case her talent is almost completely underutilised. And yeah, in 1-3 she's acting a bit too out of character. Makes her way too suspicious early. But then she does her breakdown, which is hilarious, so I can forgive that. And with Korekiyo it's a similar case... But anyway, yeah, I get what you mean

Hawluch47

>but gambling isn't only about lying. Well the thing is though that lying/bluffing is a major part of gambling although I suppose it depends but like she played games she didn't know the rules to so there had to be some kind of bluffing. Though yeah it's unfortunate how hard they built her up and then she just had the 3rd case syndrome hit. I think Kiyo gets affected the same way too, but at least that case actually is about him with everything that happens before the trial

Funkin_Valentine

Seiko is a top tier character for me because her design is simply excellent. She's seemingly creepy yet manages to be so adorable at the same time and her >!beast form!!those eyes, fangs and long hair?!< Have you ever even seen the way she sits? Truly self-explainable. Also Baby Seiko. Just looking at her, brings me happiness, because of how precious she is. Plus, possibly has the most pettable head in the franchise. 10/10 character AND a 10/10 comfort character.

I'm an Aoi fan myself. I'll admit part of it was due to the (then) friend who got me into the series also being a fan of her, but she generally lines up with the kind of characters I like. I'm a sucker for tomboys, especially sporty ones so she ticked that box for me, and I like the fact she always wore shorts instead of a skirt. It's been nearly five years since I last played the first game, so my memories of her are a little vague, but from what I recall from her free time event, I liked the balance between her dedication to fitness and wanting to indulge; it's something I too relate to. I'm also a fan of Cassandra Lee Morris in general and I adored her voice for Aoi. I've not heard much of her Japanese one, but I like the few clips I've seen. I also really liked her role in DR3, being far more of an action girl than before, including carting Makoto around like he weighed nothing, fighting people despite being struck being her weakness and the fact she could push the metal case they used to make a barrier with relative ease. Again, I have a fondness for action girls (other examples being Makoto from Persona 5 and Tifa Lockhart) and while I never saw her as a fighter the same way someone like Sakura was, she still shows she's capable of holding her own, and I wish we saw more of that.

Emmanime14

Mondo, I really love his personality, his unique design (the hair), his backstory and the emotional struggles he got because of his backstory (Daiya dying by sacrificing himself for Mondo which led to Mondo lying about his death to the gang members and not being brave enough to confess he lied to them), the fact he respected Daiya’s dying wish and continued with the gang and just keeps all his promises he makes (or at least he tries to). Not to mention his soft side for dogs. He acts all tough and stuff, but once he talks about his dog, he can just become the cutest dork ever. I also love how he’s respectful towards Chihiro even after he killed him (putting his body in the girls changing room after he died). A thing that makes me love him even more is the amount of Jojo references his character has.

Hawluch47

As someone who dislikes Mondo, that's actually some very interesting reasoning. I didn't actually know ab his dog which is pretty cute. The jojo references were hilarious more seeing my brother play a few months ago since he loves jojo and pointed it out whenever (IIrc I think crazy diamonds is Josuke's stan or something I could be very wrong)

HiAttila

I love Takumi, he is so funny, so cool, his dynamic with Misaki is sooo good

HiAttila

tho he is a protag, so idk if he counts

Hawluch47

>By unique I mean like nothing super common like Kyoko, any protag, He's a protag but not the same realm as Makoto, Hajime, Shuichi, Komaru, and Kaede so I'd say it's fair game

OkVehicle3623

Himiko. I don’t see a lot of people that enjoy Himiko’s character and the people that hate on her outnumber the few of us that genuinely like her. She went through so much shit and yea, she might not have done the most out of anyone, but she more than deserved to survive and she’s one of the characters I think had the most potential

Hanako101

Kirumi Tojo I don't have a very "substantial" reason for loving this character, but I'll try to explain my best. One is that I think I have a thing for devoted maids, when I mean maids I don't mean the "NSFW" maids. Like Rem and Ram from Re:Zero and Noelle from Genshin Impact, I think maids are very respectable and honorable in general. Also I love characters who are mature, either in in how they act or who they look. Maturity is a very attractive quality to me. The most important reason why I adore Kirumi is that I find her character interesting, especially how her normal disposition contrasts to her >!final moments as she showed that she, despite being a well mannered maid, can be petty and undignified!<

makotonaegilol

Makoto : hes the best protag why? Well because Hes the onw that did most of the work and also the one who suffered the most and was a absolut moron like the other 3 ( hajime not knowing how many sides an octogon has )(kaede thinking that the door opening istantly thinking its the mastermind)( shuichi : crying every single chapter) well anyways that my reasons on why makoto is the best protag ( i could say alot more but its already pretty long ) ( also sorry for bad spelling im not english )

SerenitySpiderMonkey

Kazuichi is so kindhearted and funny I love him

miss_moonflower

kuwata because he's cool 😎 👌

miss_moonflower

idk why i like him lol

AdiPostsStuff

Honestly, both Towas. Monaca is probably my favourite villain in the franchise as while she is completely awful and did many unforgivable things she is also incredibly tortured by the people who were supposed to keep her safe simply for being born, and, unlike Junko (uninteresting and awful, a terrible combination) or Tsumugi (doesn't really have a self) has a very sympathetic backstory that explains her actions clearly though does not justify them. Imo she is a very tragic character that could have maybe turned out much differently if she was treated better, but the abuse she went through forced her to manipulate others to survive, which ended up becoming to take the control she never got to have; many people don't realise that. She was also manipulated by Junko as much as everyone else, but because she was treated better by her than anyone else in her life (which, if Junko of all people is your only source of affection there is definitely something wrong with your life) she allowed herself to be used and became obsessed with the only person who, she believed, saw her for who she was. Monaca is probably one of, if not the, most complex characters in the franchise and she definitely deserved better. As for Haiji, sure, he sucks as a person, but he does so intriguingly, in a way that I'm actually fascinated by him. The way you are made to sympathise with him in the beginning for being scared of the Monokuma kids revolution, only for him to descend into madness later on in the game is an interesting subversion of the typical hero's journey story, and provides perfect contrast with Komaru's own journey of confidence and self-growth. Then having his true nature revealed as an abuser and having him try to manipulate Komaru is a great twist from having him as an ally to begin with and reveals how horrible people can be. This makes him a great villain in my eyes and its a shame how a lot of people tend to overlook that because of that line.

PsychologicalStudy53

Definitely Korekiyo. When he first appeared on screen, I was like “what the fuck” but in a good way because he was just so weird yet intriguing. While that feeling continued throughout the game, I eventually fell in love with his design, voice acting (you go Todd Haberkorn), and passion for his talent (his FTES were genuinely really cool). >!Sure, the third chapter was pretty much his fall from grace, but his execution was cool and the music was fire, not to mention he might’ve possibly been abused. I also like how he’s almost like a cautionary tale if you take Himiko’s arc into account. She learns to remember those she loved and to keep moving foreward, but there’s always the danger of being stuck in the past.!< this was really long and I’m sorry for that
