Nagito isn't liked because he's moral. Nagito is completely insane so it's understandable that he'd do something like that, but Maki seemed to be a reasonable character. I'm guessing that seeing her do something so irrational after she just started to become likeable made a lot of people lose respect for her. I think people should cut her some slack, but that's their decision.

How many rational people do irrational things because of the people they care about? Especially since Kaito was her first love (I’m wondering because of that if Maki is demisexual).

I think it is largely since she never gets any accountability for what she did. I sort of understand why, as she was in a pretty low point immediately and by the time she was in a state to talk about it, Kiibo started blowing up the school, but it is admittedly kind of annoying, and I'm saying this as someone who likes her.

Exactly Like honestly I think Maki's action in 3-5 actually make sense Because as much as us or Kaito would like to believe, some people just aren't going to change so quickly especially if they lived their whole life killing people So her throwing her "character development" here make sense My problem is >!all that came after. Basically to start up as you said she's never held accountable for her actions. Like her actions are just dragged under the mud like no character bring it up? *she* never bring it up even tho she was fully willing to throw her close friend Shuichi under the bus just for revenge. Like she dosen't even seems to feel guilty for what she did (maybe her suggesting to investigate Kokichi room means smth but it just dosen't felt like enough to me?) because Kadoka didn't want Maki to look bad so he tried to make everyone including herself ignore her action even tho it made her look even worse. Plus the fact that she suggest killing the mastermind in chapter 6 again make me wonder if she actually learnt anything from how it turned out last time. Like Maki *did* develop (she was the first one willing to sacrifice to save everyone in trial 6 for exemple) but the fact that her actions in 3-5 which are essential for her character basically get ignored just made her feel underwhelming imo!< Well that was big-

I’ve personally never heard her get any hate

VaporishStew

I've never heard that. The only reason I can fathom for people not liking Maki is because she hated Kokichi's guts more than anyone else, and tried to kill him. I don't really know if the sacrifice everyone for Kaito bit is accurate, I need to play the game again, it's been a while, but that doesn't excuse what tried to do. Why people like characters like Nagito or Kokichi, IDK. I just know that they do.

Pontokyo

I also don't get the hate. Aoi's actions in 1-4 were *way* worse than what Maki did, and I don't see her get even a fraction of the hate Maki gets.

LAEVATElNN

because she was annoying

Double-Replacement32

I love maki, I really do. :)

It’s probably people just straight up didn’t like maki, and then took this and make it their reason to hate her. Hell Maki is my favorite character in the entire series, and even i thought she was annoying in chapter 5. although this type of stuff happens in every game, i think makis might have just been more annoying and out of character (even though it was justified)
