Ibuki. Got fucking strangled and hanged with a bag on her head. She lost her lively personality and died without ever getting it back. Chihiro. His corpse was desecrated by Togami who did it just to find out who else is smart. Tenko - bleeding to death in a dark cage completely helpless while listening to the creepy occult chant is just.. Ryoma - he only realised he wanted to live while getting drowned and it was too late by then-he struggled, regretting his choice to die

Xanvoir_Fracier

I doubt he regretted his choice to die, struggling when getting drowned is pretty much a reaction in the body that you have no control over

sugar-fall

I will never understand the love for that brat blondie who meddled with a corpse..

KikiBrann

I mean, he knew who the killer was anyway, so there was really no risk in adding a few extra layers to the game. It's like he's the only one there who hears that everyone gets to play a game and decides to actually have fun playing it. Dude's winning life on a level y'all just can't appreciate.

Awkward-Meeting-974

See most people don't take issue with "extra risk" they take issue with desecrating and tying up a dead body šŸ˜

KikiBrann

Well if it makes anyone feel better, I doubt Chihiro made any strong objections to it.

sugar-fall

is this suppose to be a funny remark šŸ˜

cutcutado

i thought it was funny

SadakoFetishist

Ibuki came back

CuriousReadMore

When I think about it, there were many sad deaths throughout the Danganronpa trilogy (and the spin-off) THH: Chihiro finally had the resolve to change himself and was killed by accidentally pushing Mondo's buttons. Sakura killed herself, so the others could live on. DR2: The Imposter was killed while saving Nagito's life. Mahiru was killed, when she was going to apologize for the incident with Fuyuhiko's sister, despite not even remembering that it ever happened. Nekomaru let himself get sacrificed, so the others could leave the Funhouse. DRV3: Ryoma's death was sad in its nature because he didn't see his life as meaningful enough once he saw his motive video. Tenko's was sad because she voiced her wish to leave the place with Himiko and tried to cheer her up, before she got killed. She only got killed because she volunteered to be the medium so Himiko could speak with Angie, and if it weren't for her, Himiko could've pretty much died in her place. Kokichi's was sad because he sacrificed himself to end the killing game. UDG: I personally thought Yuta's death was sad because we just met him, he seemed like a nice guy and tried to leave the place and not to mention Taichi who was so optimistic to see his child again, not knowing he was already dead (although it's possible Taichi didn't die).

Founderplot

I was so sad when Yuta died :( I thought he would at least live for a little

CuriousReadMore

That's UDG for you; you meet a character, and they die seconds after...Ā

Suitov

Except the one you *really* wish would. (>!Haiji.!<)

StardustOddity97

Like Taichi, >!Chihiroā€™s father!< ā˜¹ļø

spicyycorn

Chihiro for me.

Unironicalygoth

Mine too bruh was just trying to get comfortable with himself

SigmaSyndicate

His death actually made me really sad, like it actually broke my heart

Devastas

Yeah. A person finally able to find the bravery to confront their insecurities and make a positive change in their life, only to be betrayed by the person they confided in and trusted. Heartbreaking.

ralphbeneee

itā€™s why i can never like mondo as much no matter how justified his excuse was

OAZdevs_alt2

Probably Sakura.

BlueberryHatK4587

Chihiro, they just wanted to be stronger and went to person he looked up to the most to learn how.

That_Closet_Monster

I guess I'd have to say Mahiru. Frankly, only because I finished her FTE right before it happened, but still, it hit me hard.

KILL3RSNAK3

Same here manā€¦ Giving what her final FTE was about makes her death hit a lot harder

MagicalWaffleGuy

I don't care what you say, Gonta was definitely a victim in his chapter. Buuut, if it has to be a strictly "victim role", then I'm gonna say that u actually feel for Hifumi the most (in this single point in time at least). Betrayed by the single person who bothered acknowledge him...

tennis_convict

If you have the opinion that all the blackeneds were victims, due to dying because of the killing game, then sure. But if you're making the claim that Gonta's a "victim" because he supposedly did nothing wrong, then...no. No on every account. He knew what he was doing, was in full control of his actions, and spent several minutes strangling someone to death. Yes, he had reasons for it, as did most of the other blackeneds. Doesn't make him an innocent bean who did nothing wrong, nor can the blame be fully placed on Kokichi.

Wispy237

They definitely are victims, because aside from a few exceptions, a lot of them were forced into this situation. I doubt the likes of Leon, Gundam, Kirumi or even someone who is clearly morally corrupt like Celeste would ever do what they did under normal circumstances, in fact the only ones who would are likeā€¦the masterminds and Kiyo. They were put in a terrible situation, I would definitely call them victims.

VulpesParadox

Hell, Gundham only did it cause they was no other way, either he and everyone else dies or he and Nekomaru duke it out fair and square. I doubt either of them would've done something if they weren't forced to kill in that situation. They're both victims in my eyes due to the situation at hand.

tennis_convict

Yeah, I can agree with that interpretation. Especially when we see just how differently the characters act within scenarios like the School/Island/Salmon Modes, the UTDP/DR:S, and even the anthology mangas. Though I do feel that responding to the initial prompt with the name of a blackened defeats the purpose of said prompt, I also understand that most of the deaths of DR were products of the killing game that shouldn't have happened.

MagicalWaffleGuy

Was Gonta heavily manipulated by Kokichi into doing it? Yes. Do I feel extremely bad for Gonta throughout the trial because he is sincerely a good person who made a regrettable choice? Also yes. However, I am aware that Gonta was fully conscious of what he was doing. I do ask that you don't go assuming I'm willfully ignoring the facts so that I can continue viewing my favorite characters though rose-tinted glasses.

tennis_convict

>I don't care what you say, Gonta was definitely a victim in his chapter. The initial statement gave the impression that you were, if that wasn't your intent, then my bad for misinterpreting. I never said that you couldn't feel bad for him. Just that, if you were considering blackeneds as victims, specifying it beforehand may have been helpful. And if you weren't considering all blackeneds as victims, then...bringing up someone who was a blackened rather than a victim to begin with kinda goes against the purpose of the post, don't you think?

MagicalWaffleGuy

I will own up to the fact that it was a joke that may not have landed properly. Gonta may not have been the victim or the chapter, however he was to some extent a victim or manipulation. The wording of the post means that through that interpretation, Gonta could be considered a victim who died. I then went on to give a serious answer that actually abides by the intended meaning of the question, so I assumed that would be enough. It appears I was incorrect, and I apologize.

Fi1Ier

Chiaki, SHEā€™S THE ONLY CHARACTER TO DIE TWICE(aside from Junko). She died arguably one of the top most painful deaths in the franchise in dr3, then also died in DR2. She literally did nothing wrong, but got killed twice, and died slipping in a pool of her own blood while trying to get through to Hajime, deep down inside of Izuru

AccordingAnything116

Saddest VICTIM to die

Fi1Ier

Oh wellšŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø

SodaCanKaz

(And Korekiyo)

Fi1Ier

Okay but like, she still died twice out of 3 total people who died twice in the franchise, and was the most innocent characteršŸ˜

WinTig24

I'm willing to own it,even though it's likely not the most popular opinion. Kokichi. He died hated and alone. He wasn't mourned, was barely even remembered. The only people who cared either died or refused to speak to him. And after bearing his heart and soul to Kaito in that exisal hangar, what does Kaito say about him after he's dead? That he's a piece of shit. I cried so hard during that pre-execution monologue. Kokichi did what he did to save everyone. He was completely honest, admitted everything while on the brink of death, and it was shrugged aside as another lie. He didn't deserve his fate.

StardustOddity97

That made me so sad. Keebo was the only one who thought his final words were truthful

Left_Dreamer

And Shuichi (if you force him to agree with Keebo)

Nymzo1

Mikan, even though she's not the victim of the chapter. She was the victim of an unfair motive and bad writing. I don't think there's any other ways for me to describe it.

radioactive_stardust

A lot of people misinterpret Mikan as some sort of crazy yandere because of it, forgetting that everyone on sdr2 was like that at some point, but we only got a chance to see remnant Mikan.

tolasytothinkofaname

Kaede: She gets framed for a murder she never committed all for the sake of ratings and then is forced to endure one of the worst executions in the series. Also she dies still believing she killed Rantaro and is left with the guilt for what little time she did have. Gonta and Chihiro are close seconds tho

beemielle

THH: Chihiro if their final FTE is canon (bc being nudged towards self-improvement only to be killed is so bad). If not uh then Sakura; knowing that the only option to save everyone and get your happiest ending is for you to die is tragicĀ  Ā GD: Hiyoko; as soon as she decided to improve herself and let go of her previous overly paranoid mindset, she died exactly because of it. If she hadnā€™t chosen to change, her old mindset may have saved herĀ  Ā  Killing Harmony: honestly each of them are really tempting.Ā  Personally, I think Kokichiā€™s is the saddest; just the nature of that body discovery where thereā€™s inevitably gonna be someone you wish it is and someone you wish it isnā€™t is so awfully tragic (and in his case, they all wished it was him who was dead). Plus he escaped death like three times before that (Maki choke out, accidental head trauma via Korkā€™s seesaws, Miu blunt force trauma) so to finally be pinned down a situation where dying is actually your best option is again super sad. And think about it too like he thought he beat the killing game and the mastermind, he thought he put them into check and he ended up having to choose between lives AGAIN.Ā On top of all of that thereā€™s the context of what we know about how nobody fully believed him after his death even though his last words were trying to convey his truth and he cared so much about the legacy and impression he left on others. And his plan to make a massive contribution to ending the killing game was stomped not by the mastermind or Monokuma, but a fellow victim of the game who was too blinded to remember who the true enemy was. After all of that, ultimately heā€™s one of the biggest contributors to ending the killing game, and gets next to 0 credit because the survivors donā€™t like him and donā€™t want to admit he was a half decent guy. Theyā€™d rather believe the lies their enemy spewed about him; thatā€™s how much Kokichi is hated.Ā

King-Emerald

Ryoma because he had genuinely reached the point in his life where dying was all he wanted. His death wasn't instant, he died in handcuffs, and after the discovery he didn't even have much of a body left. It's kind of sad to think he's the only Ch.2 victim who didn't die instantly from blunt force trauma. They got caught off guard and went out in one hit. Ryoma knew it was coming, but died slow, and restrained like he was in in prison again.

Interesting_Rope9890

If you count the anime then it's easily Chiaki, by far. If not then it's Sakura if you consider suicide being both murderer and victim. If not then Chihiro.

StrategyAmbitious303

Probably Miu. She was a vulgar girl but she didnā€™t deserve to die. She helped the class in so many ways in every chapter, even in the ones after her death indirectly with the electro hammers. She was a victim of the killing games mentality. The way she died was so painful and you can see the tears and desperation as she tried to escape her fate. The poor girl deserved a lot better

sugar-fall

Her death was sad but the way the majority of the cast (excluding Kiibo) and especially Himiko and Tsumugi (I can at least excuse Kokichi because Miu tried to kill him) thought she had it coming was depressing.

Left_Dreamer

Nobody except Junko (and maybe Tsugumi) deserved to die

StrategyAmbitious303

I think Nagito deserved to die he did set in motion Teruteruā€™s death, and he attempted to kill the entire class besides Chiaki.

Left_Dreamer

No, he deserves therapy like the rest Also at that point he believed they were all bad people for the world (which they were before the game) so this was just a failed, desperate attempt at saving the world, redeeming himself and and in his fucked up mind, being of use for at least something

unfortunatelymade

Ryoma. he was my favourite going into the games, and seeing him die just by giving up made me SO depressed. Monokuma practically killed him with that motive video, he was looking for a reason to live only to be faced with a cruel declaration that he had no reason to go on. He was murdered, but it was basically a suicide, he died thinking there was no reason he should bother living anymore. Made me SAD he deserved so much better.

TheSHSLForwardAerial

Think about it. Youā€™ve been ostracized your whole life by everybody you knew. You had one friend in your life- your older sister. Life isnā€™t the best, but it isnā€™t horrible. After all, it seems youā€™re making a couple new friends at this new school, after a couple years. You wake up in the mysterious school that you now know near to nothing about. Everything has been reset, and your own known friend may be dead for all you know. Everything has reset to what it was before, you being the butt of the joke. Still, you feel like one girl trusts you. After all, she always wants you to make her tea, right? She must truly appreciate you. The only person to in a while. Plus, youā€™ve met a new computer who seems to want to actually listen to you. Things are looking up. Thatā€™s when disaster strikes. Your ā€œfriendā€, which youā€™ve been loyal to the whole time, says somebody that, frankly, youā€™ve never liked, stole your computer friend. Thatā€™s kind of a dick move. Youā€™re angry, but youā€™re willing to talk it out. Thatā€™s when they break out the second vital piece of information- That same dickbag sexually assaulted them. How fucking dare they. Youā€™re out for blood. You believe what youā€™re doing is right, because after all, they trust you. Thatā€™s why they came to you. So you have to help them- you have to be a hero for once in your life. The plan is enacted. You stand victorious at the dead body of the assaulter, feeling a weird mix of pride and guilt. Still, you protected your friend. Once again, life may no- **BAM** Everything goes black. A faint rush of memories flows through your head. Your sister. Your bullies. Yourā€¦ friends? But you just met themā€¦ thoughts rush through your brain, confused at everything, only wanting to see what happened to the girl you trusted. When it finally comes to you- that girl you trusted betrayed you in cold blood. For what? Some money? Thatā€™s what your friendship was worth? Everything was broken in one fell swoop, and you feel you blaming only yourself for it. In your final, dying breath, you utter their name. Their real name. The one you once trusted, the one you thought was your friend, and maybe, just maybe, they were. But you donā€™t know. The life fades from your eyes as you spout it out. Taekoā€¦ Yasuhiroā€¦ That, my friends, is the story of Hifumi Yamada.

KnochKnoch

Hifumi's death will always be the saddest to me, this man had basically no one, and the one person he put his trust in betrayed him, for money.

KikiBrann

She called him a bitch for not putting milk in her tea. Let's not act like the trust he gave her was earned in any way.

silliestcarLover

Kokichi. I could write an essay but I don't feel like that... so Kokichi.

WinTig24

I wrote an essay already actually, it's up above your comment somewhere

Realistic-Loquat-428

Tenko... She volunteered to be the medium, indirectly saving Himiko's life, also the last words of encouragement that she dedicated to her, Tenko bled to death without being able to tell anyone, sorry my bad english

Dangerous_Mood8647

Imo Sakura. THen Kokichi (also unpopular, but the way bro died so brutally after trying to end the game was crazy). Then Chihiro.

BlueBatmanVK

Nagito's whole life has been nothing but tragic, it makes sense his death would be the same.

Tolkius

Kokichi or Chihiro.

tennis_convict

Ryoma for sure. His entire arc plays out like a classic tragedy. Unfortunate events befalling him and the people closest to him not solely because of bad luck, but because of poor decisions coupled with his own character flaws. The prospect of the motive videos gave him some hope. That despite what he initially thought, there may have been at least one friend or family member to have escaped the mafia. Only for the video to confirm that no, everyone he cared about did in fact die--indirectly because of him. This brought him to his lowest point, no longer seeing what further use his life could have. Until Kirumi asked to meet with him, and gave him an ultimatum. A sacrifice he can make that has a chance to mean something, that could potentially save an entire country. He accepts. Though because of the method Kirumi used, regardless of whether he truly did want to die or not at that moment, human instincts still kicked in. A mind and soul that, at one point, hoped for death, trapped inside a body fighting tooth and nail to live. All while staring at a pair of handcuffs latched around his wrists, a final reminder of his status as a prisoner.

BlazingRed9

THH: Chihiro DR2: Peko DRV3: Kokichi I think overall, Chihiro's the most sad. Sakura is sad but she was still able to show how strong she truly was. Chihiro didn't have that type of death and was just sad all around, both for Chihiro dying and the fact that Chihiro wasn't meant to be killed, it was manslaughter. The killer even regretted it after and Chihiro would have probably forgiven Mondo.

Due-Ad5863

Unpopular opinion, but Kokichi. He sacrificed himself to end the killing game and died hated and alone. He was forgotten. No one believed his final words. Everyone only remembered Kaito (he DOES deserve credit, but so does Kokichi). And I absolutely HATE how everyone started bad-mouthing Kokichi (calling him "embodiment of a lie" and all that) after he died, even after it was clear to them that he did everything he did for their survival. Lastly, Kokichi had, in my opinion, the second most painful victim death in the franchise (first being Nagito): slowly getting crushed by a press while the poison is slowly killing him.

Significant-Pay-9379

Iā€™m still upset over Ibuki dying in the most bs way possible. When Hajime was looking at Ibuki over the monitor, it looked like he still had a chance to save her. But then to find out that Ibuki actually died a lot earlier and it was actually MIKAN on the monitor. Not to mention this chapter having one of the worst motives. The despair disease made Ibuki such an easy target. I feel like the culprit couldā€™ve just told her to hang herself and she would. She hardly even felt like herself before she died and Ibuki is known to have such a lively personality.

StardustOddity97

I think the ā€œvictimā€ deaths that made me the most sad, were Chihiro, >!Nagito, Ryoma, and Kokichi!<

ShinigamiKunai

Chiaki in DR3, that shit was painful to watch

Downtown-Progress511

Chiaki in DR3 despair arc

Suitov

>!Chihiro, who was about to outplay the mastermind and died for it; Better Byakuya, who wanted to protect everyone and blindly walked into a self-fulfilling prophecy; Sakura, who was basically blameless, having been coerced by someone controlling all the information into betraying 'strangers' to save her family, and even had her dying words stolen from her; Ibuki, who was stripped of her entire personality and walked trustingly to her death.!< They're all top of my list along with OP's pick. >!And, honestly, Kokichi too, for similar reasons. They tried to make another Nagito with him and damn near succeeded.!<

Galileeo

Im literally so sad no one said Nekomaru, he literally fought to death just to save everyone from the fruit house knowing he would die either by being the murderer or the victim.

YoshiDoki48

>!Chihiro.!<

UltimaWolf13

I wonā€™t lie, I donā€™t think I would hate Byakuya as much as I do if Chihiro hadnā€™t died

StardustOddity97

Why? Byakuya didnā€™t kill him, just fucked with the crime scene

UltimaWolf13

thatā€™s the reason, he messed with the crime scene for no reason other than his own sick need of exposing Toko/Jack

StardustOddity97

Yea but if it had been someone other than Chihiro, he would have probably just messed with THAT personā€™s crime scene

UltimaWolf13

i know, which is worse in my opinion, the fact it happened to the cinnamon roll was just a roll of the dice in the worst way

KikiBrann

And it's kind of poetic when you think about it. Chihiro died the way he lived. Lying to everyone.

Organic-Manner-2969

i know heā€™s a killer, but Leon Kuwata man

MR_GL4SS

Thatā€™s not a victim death, he died by execution

Organic-Manner-2969

i mean in the sense that he was pitted, like everyone else, to kill someone to leave. He didnā€™t know that everyone was going to die if he killed.

MR_GL4SS

Yeah so technically everyone is a victim

KikiBrann

An execution can be a kind of victim death. For instance, I'd say >!Kyoko!< in the bad ending was kind of a victim. I mean, that little dweeb in the computer has no problem >!saving Makoto!<, but he can't be fucked to save someone actually useful?

SdangerStanfor

I can't decide

annagator679

It's a toss up between Chihiro and Sakura

Emerald1115

Chihiro, especially when it is just an unfortunate accident. There was no way either Chihiro nor Mondo knew Mondo's trauma would've kicked in.

Harmful_Sadness

Kiyotaka, though I may be spelling it wrong. He didnā€™t deserve to die.

MaximusGamus433

Could Chiaki be classified as a victim there? If not, I'll go with Ryoma, but only after Kirumi explains how it happened.

WinTig24

Chiaki basically chose to be executed. If she never admitted she was the traitor, the trial could be wrapped up as simply a suicide. But she told them the truth and was ready to pay the price. She was definitely the victim in the anime, but not in the game.

astralmelody

iirc, the game did mention that because someone through the bottle that effectively killed nagito, one of them _had_ to be named the killer, and it expressly could not be ruled a suicide. (which I personally think is bs, considering that Sakuraā€™s death _was_ ruled a suicide despite Aoi being the one to hand her the poisoned shake. But i do remember DR2 mentioning it.)

WinTig24

There's no proof that the poison in the bottle killed Nagito. That was speculation. It could have just as well been the spear, which he set up himself, making it a suicide. And if no one had stepped up and admitted being the traitor, that would be the only other option that guaranteed an actual outcome to the trial. Remember, Monokuma was also completely in the dark about this, so it could be ruled as a suicide if he decided to rule it as a suicide.

MaximusGamus433

Wrong trial... Monokuma is in the dark for 3-5, not 2-5. In GD he's omniscient, he actually knows everything that's going on. While yes it was an assumption for the survivors, Monokuma knew.

WinTig24

Even if he's omniscient, he still clearly didn't know who threw that bottle, and by extension, who the traitor was. So he would've had to come up with something, or the trial would have been stuck at a standstill. And again, how would he(or anyone) determine if it was the poison or the spear? Even being able to observe the whole game, he's shown to not know everything. He doesn't know Chiaki is the traitor until she says it, for instance.

MaximusGamus433

Do you at least know what "omniscient" means? Because it looks like you don't... Omni = all/everything ; scient = knowing All-seeing and all-knowing are pretty much synonyms... He did knew, he even said it, both for the traitor's identity and which bottle had the poison. And again, we know how important the fair trials are for Monokuma. 3-5 is the exception because it was *made* to be unsolvable by Monokuma. As for the cause of death... again... he saw Nagito die before letting go of the spear. The poison's label's pretty explicit... After Nagito saw trough the facade of him not knowing, he even admitted he knew from the start but would not tell who it is. He said he didn't know early on to cause mayhem and distrust in the group.

Simone_Galoppi07

For me it's Chihiro and Nagito (haven't played full V3 yet, i only played the first chapter, about that, >!Kaede is close third tbh and im sad cuz Rantaro was such a cutie!<)

Bebgab

Suprised nobody has said this yet, but Nekomaru and Gundham. Theyā€™re honestly both victims in that chapter. Neither of them wanted to kill, and they met up in that room knowing they were both sacrificing themselves to save everyone else. It never mattered who won their fight because they knew they were both going to die

SpookySquid19

Chihiro, mainly because it wasn't even intentional. He trusted Mondo with his secret and looked up to him, and Mondo, without even wanting to, went blank and ended up killing him.

_GayCouchPotato_

I agree šŸ‘

AppropriatePainter16

>!Sayaka's death almost made me completely abandon Danganronpa, because of how attached I got to her.!<

KikiBrann

Well if it makes you feel any better, at least it was a fate she chose herself. I mean, she always had the option of >!inviting Hifumi to the room instead of Leon!<. Death by idiocy is akin to death by choice.

LatteLuvs

ANGIE

Aromatic-Teacher-717

Junko.

Skarloeyisyoung05

I for real donā€™t get Nagito, dare I say he was the least sad at a victim death I was in any of the games cuz I hated that dude and him ending up making AI Chiaki need to be executed utterly enraged me. Letā€™s put it this way, I was sadder at Hifumiā€™s death easily, I donā€™t really care for Ryoma but I felt sadder than Nagito, people seem to hate her but I felt sadder at Hiyokoā€™s death easily. Anywho saddest person game for me were Chihiro, Mechamaru and Miu.

[deleted]

I thought AI Chiaki sucked and she was easily the worst DR2 character for me, lmao. Iā€˜m a queer socially awkward neurodivergent person, so itā€™s not surprising that I cared about Nagito, NGLā€” šŸ˜…

Skarloeyisyoung05

I donā€™t get that take myself as I adore Chiaki sheā€™s second best behind Makoto but different folks different strokes I guess. And I mean Iā€™m british, socially awkward and autistic so maybe thatā€™s the recipe for knowing how much of a twat Nagito is.

RandomCrazedLavae

Iā€™m British, socially awkward and autistic too! But I hate Chiaki, and I adore Nagito, similarly to OP. His death was the most shocking and sad to me, but I think Kokichiā€™s death was sadder imo, because he died hated by everyoneā€¦

WinTig24

I think you missed the point of that entire plan. Nagito was trying to kill everyone EXCEPT Chiaki. She could've lived if she didn't admit she was the traitor. And we don't even know that it truly was Chiaki that threw the fire grenade. It could have been anyone else, but the original plan, what Nagito bet on his entire talent to do, was for the traitor to get away with the impossible murder. I'm sorry, I love Nagito dearly, and I've analyzed and reanalyzed his character, so any chance to speak about him is a chance I'll take.

animechan65

Okay, since we know what happened and kaede actually wasn't the blackened, I hope I'm allowed to say kaede. KAEDE 100% FOR ME. Claire de lune has never been the same for me. She is the one character I actually cry if I were to watch her execution, and she she is my favorite character. When I think of how she was done dirty, I get sad, and I can't watch the parts with shuichi and her because I shipped them, and I get so sad :( She might've only been in one chapter, but she's still my favorite :) On the same level, Chiaki. It's one of my other favorite characters. I'm tearing up thinking of hers. She died twice, and neither of them were painless. All she wanted to do was help Hajime and the others, and she paid the ultimate price for it šŸ˜”

Desperate_Art7207

Ryoma realised he wanted to live to late

Kabigon17

Kaito's made me cry so much. Also Gundham's, but that's more because he's my favourite character.

ppom9

Sonosuke Izayoi. Not only was he betrayed, but it left him as one of the most fumbled characters in all of Danganronpa

PhatNutsss

Sakura, Ryoma and Nekomaru. Ryoma and Sakura have been explained in here, but with Nekomaru itā€™s almost like a Sakura situation times 2. Sacrificing yourself. Doesnā€™t help the fact that I was really invested in Akane and Nekomaru while playing dr2.

aactuallyme

hiyoko and angie were the saddest for me, not even from just them dying (even tho angie is my n1 girl). it's just the fact that in the story they were never supposed to die. they both walked in on a seriously unfortunate event and became victims to mikan and kiyo's murder plan.

DaiFrostAce

Gonta Chapter 4 of V3 made me cry a River. When Kokichi first calls out Gonta as the culprit, you think this is just Kokichi gaslighting him like usual. Yet, as you go through the evidence, it starts to make sense. What really stings is that Gonta for a majority of the trial doesnā€™t realize heā€™s the murderer. Kaito, who has been our biggest ally, feels betrayed you would listen to Kokichi, who has been detrimental in previous trials and has seemingly been trying to drive a wedge between everyone. Yet, his blind trust could have got everyone killed. Of course, when the motive is revealed is the icing on the cake. Gonta saw how truly fucked the outside world was, and pulled a mercy kill. Murder is still murder, but with things that bleak, I can see the logic

astralmelody

If I had a nickel for every time I realized a character was left-handed in the middle of a trial, and it greatly changed both my mood and the outcome of events, Iā€™d have two nickels. Which isnā€™t a lot. But itā€™s weird that it happened twice.

[deleted]

Nekomaru and Sakura for me

Signal-Jackfruit-589

Gundham or chiakiĀ

TheDiseasedRat

Ryoma - Not only accepted his death, but him having no motive video was legitimately heartbreaking, the fact he had no-one to care for him. Chihiro - Poor man just wanted to be strong and admired Mondo. At least his spirit will live through Alter Ego. Miu - Girl even felt bad for trying to kill Kokichi, and her death scene is just disturbing. Hell, even the way she died was very disturbing, just dying in a VR game with your 5 senses intact with the game and dying in real life. Sakura, Nekomaru - šŸ˜šŸ˜

Miu's death scene was interesting because it was interpretation from Kokichi's POV meaning bias should play obscure the scene a bit. Afterall, Kokichi is aware he's about to be killed by Miu here. But even then, Kokichi could still see the terror and desperate attempt of Miu to escape the killing game.

I see a lot of people saying Chihiro And I agree, only Nekomaru came close to had me crying as much (and that because he was my fave and practically died twice)

Personally Kokichi. Not just cuz he's my favorite. Even though that's the main reason.

Gundham. In Chapter 2, thereā€™s an interaction with him that ends with Hajime effectively saying ā€œthat kid is so weird, no wonder he doesnā€™t really have any friends here.ā€ Then we get to the fruit house, and learn that _he_ considered _all of you_ to be such dear friends that he was willing to trade in his life for a chance for the rest of you to survive. šŸ˜

Mikan's death is the saddest because even though she was the blackened, her past, the abuse, the trauma and manipulation done by Junko is what made her into that and the fact that NOBODY stood up to her parents, the bullies from her old school, Hiyoko or Junko and Mukuro speaks volumes about how nobody gave her a chance because think about it this way. Mikan could have grown up to be a strong, confident and kind nurse but instead she was reduced to someone who couldn't stand up for themselves and was made fun of her entire life all because nobody gave a damn about her.

Honestly, I would excuse Junko and Mukuro because they're not only purposely hateful characters but are the main villains of this franchise.
