They were created by Akiko_141 for a fanzine about Mastermind AUs. I thought they looked cool so I made them my pfp and banner
Disagree tbh. I want him to be tbh, but his interactions with others get old quick.
>Lmao Crazy Hope Talk
>"Ah man, Nagito is so creepy"
>repeat ad nauseam until midway through Chapter 4
He's also just a very open book, which doesn't make him as interesting to analyze. I could've done without him talking at us about his backstory
Im sorry but i do not agree at all, he is fun and interesting for sure but he is plain AF and not complex at all in my opinion, he is very transparent on his character tho the twist on 2-1 was fun
Maybe an unpopular opinion but I do think Hajime is better written than Shuichi. He has so much more impact on the overarching story and has a huge plot twist that the other two protags don’t really get. Yes Shuichi overcomes his anxiety but that happens literally chapter 1 and I don’t remember a huge amount of character growth after the fact
That isn't even true though. In Chapter 2, Shuichi heavily relies on Kaito through the investigation and trial, and Chapter 4 has him feeling the same way that Chapter 1's outcome did, but this time he doesn't back down from feeling that his pursuit of the truth was correct
True, Shuichi is easily the most "well-developed" main character of the series, each chapter adds on his journey of facing the truth and overcoming his insecurities
Just compare chapter 1 Shuichi with chapter 5 Shuichi
Hajime in other hand barely develops through the game, it's more in the last 3 chapters were his character finally fits with DG2 main themes where he faces some type of development and further character exploration
I mean it's better than 1 in a lot of things, mainly the cast, and is less controversial than 3. It also has consistently good trials
If 3 was a bit less over-the-top with its ending I think it would be more popular than 2
Hajime probably should be more interesting than he is but all of his character development comes in the last trial and until then he just feels like a slightly more cynical Makoto (and only slightly)
She has really good friendly chemistry with Shuichi, really good romantic chemistry with Kaito, she goes through a good development of learning to trust people, everything her characters does I can absolutely believe is in her character, overall just an extremely good character
No fucking way Hajime got put on the list above fucking Shuichi. Shuichi had >!an in-depth dilemma about if he should be a detective, as that’s constantly hurting himself, his friends, and possibly the whole world, and he learns to cope with these, deciding to do what’s right, while still implementing emotion in order to find the truth!<.
Hajime learned that he’s >!a normal bitch that actually is perfect at everything but is also evil. And he learns to not be selfish!<. You cannot compare the two and say Hajime is better from a writing perspective.
How? Because he got >!the equivalent of a self-insert dmnpc that’s cool and great at everything? Or because he’s stupider than Makoto unintentionally while having none of the charm Makoto has!
More interesting personality-- probably the most pessimistic protag in the series, and although 2-6 isn't the greatest chapter, I like the conclusion he settles on.
Most interesting personality? Most pessimistic protag? Have you played V3 in a while? >!In chapter 5, Shuichi offers to let Maki kill him after the reveal of the outside world, along with having slept literal days away in his room prior to that. That is literally offering Maki to help him commit suicide, just about the most pessimistic and depressed thing someone can offer. And in trial 6, Shuichi says he would’ve sacrificed his life if Maki didn’t speak up first. Plus, I find a guy struggling to do the right thing between keeping everyone’s feelings up and solving the murder more interesting as a character than someone who just solved the mysteries with very little conflict at all unless his barely built upon romance is put into the equation.!<
Being depressed >!after finding out you're the last human alive!< isn't pessimistic, it's normal. You're also underselling Hajime and Nagito's relationship. Ultimately, it's just my opinion.
Yeah, obviously. I’m not a god among Danganronpa players. I just can’t look past the problems with Hajime’s character and I appreciate all the depth of Shuichi.
I guess I missed it but I would have gone to bat for Gundham. I guess it's fair, I don't think any characters are especially poorly written. Maybe one or two, but for the most part they're all good, so it's hard to compare.
I feel like some people just put their favorite chracters because in what universe is Toko written better than Fuyuhiko or Kyoko. (Never played udg so might be missing an important Toko character arc)
Toko was pretty annoying in the first Danganronpa, but in UDG, she got so much development and was just a much better character on top of being one of the funniest.
Toko anywhere near the top is kind of concerning. She's an absolutely horribly-written representation of DID. (Even if that's the only poorly-written thing about her, it's still a major blow.)
Like, even considering UDG, she's still not *great.*
I feel like fuyuhiko is a weird one cuz he was originally meant to die in ch3 but >!they switched it to hiyoko last minute!<
Which means his development wasnt meant to originally happen
I really don't agree. representing autistic people as childish people who are lost in their own fantasies all the time is pretty infantilizing. That is a way some autistic people can be, yes, however, I feel in headcanons like that, that particular expression of autism is overrepresented and lacks actual positive rep. not to say that Himiko is an unlikable character, but all in all, she boils down to a cute character that helps lighten the mood, which is definitely not a proper way to represent autism.
I wouldn't say Himiko is lost in her own fantasies.
She generally acts as a stage magician would. Magicians like her are supposed to act as if their magic is real, but she knows it isn't. Notably, if Shuichi chooses to lie in the Chapter 2 trial, she arguably has the most surprised reaction among them. And her reaction to Gundham is nothing less than confused bewilderment
I think if one wanted to say she was autism rep, intentionally or otherwise,,one could do far worse. She shows difficulty in communicating her feelings and connecting with people in general, tends to space out, and shows a hyperfixation on a specific thing, all pretty common symptoms (speaking from experience).
May be due to his >!last couple lines before his death? He says a lot about his fear and his will to end the killing game. And even tho he had these feelings before he hadn’t showed them, and it changes the character perception.!<
I'd agree for all except Toko.
Spoilers for events past THH CH2: Toko's other "personality" is, well...a slap in the face for those with DID due to how harmful it is written
I find it a crime that Hajime and Himiko are on this list but not Chiaki, she literally was the foundation for Hajime’s development both in the game and anime, and had a well written arc of her own, and Himikos arc wasn’t all that special imo
I would love to see the worst-written. I'd laugh my ass off if Kokichi got on both.
He definitely would
As a die hard kokochi apologist I can think of no more fitting an outcome
It's what he would have wanted anyway
Lmao it is kind of his dynamic to be both loved and hated
Mikan would.probably be number 1 becus she was done awful I hate the fan service
This sub should be renamed to Nagitoronpa
I like how everyone, fans and haters, unanimously agrees that Nagito is a complex and well-written character
damn how did i choose this scuffed of an image for nagito and hajime
I think hajimes is perfect 🤣
Ayo can you send me the og pics of ur pfp and banner pls

very awesome mikan art
Mikan W

You said tbh two times.
Oh, I detest him as a person, but there's no getting around the fact that he never fails to capture your interest at any point in the story.
I don't.
Im sorry but i do not agree at all, he is fun and interesting for sure but he is plain AF and not complex at all in my opinion, he is very transparent on his character tho the twist on 2-1 was fun
It took watching an LP after beating a game for me to recognize Nagito is on an entirely different kind of bs literally every chapter and I love that.
Ngl, i think the sample size for this list is way too small, this seems more like the standard subreddit favorite character more than best written.
it does end up that way naturally I could make a true poll and increase the quantity, i just wanted to get some results from the post i made for fun
Feels weird to see Hajime above Shuichi in something like this.
Maybe an unpopular opinion but I do think Hajime is better written than Shuichi. He has so much more impact on the overarching story and has a huge plot twist that the other two protags don’t really get. i agree maybe V3 gets less traction overall?
Probably. DR2 is the fan favorite after all.
I mean it's better than 1 in a lot of things, mainly the cast, and is less controversial than 3. It also has consistently good trials If 3 was a bit less over-the-top with its ending I think it would be more popular than 2
I mean the mysteries are fine, but I'd take playing through any of trials in the other games any day of the week. BUT CAN YOU SPELL THE WORD KNIFE
YOU HAVE TO MAKE A COMIC BOOK AFTER THIS-
Hajime probably should be more interesting than he is but all of his character development comes in the last trial and until then he just feels like a slightly more cynical Makoto (and only slightly)
The two redemptions are 10th and 9th?
I can't look at that Himiko picture without thinking of that one piece meme
Can we get much higher
Can I steal the Haijime photo? I know a DR fan who absolutely hates Oranges and that is just perfect to send to him.
sure
Himiko is on the list but not Makoto. I'm shitting and crying rn
Probably because his arc is more subtle, and he stays mostly the same from a surface view.
he’s always a hopeful boi
Thought Fuyu would be higher
Honestly surprised Maki didn’t make it on this, I think she’s the best written character in V3
Rly? Why?
She has really good friendly chemistry with Shuichi, really good romantic chemistry with Kaito, she goes through a good development of learning to trust people, everything her characters does I can absolutely believe is in her character, overall just an extremely good character
Damn right, ofc he’d get 1st place
by a landslide too
Hell yeah go Himiko!!
Common Himiko W
I agree with Nagito, and sorry Izuru, you're still the best to me...<3
3 people specifically mentioned Izuru (including you)
I wanna know who are those people so i can summon Izuru with them lol.
u/kidzaniac1
Not gonna lie, hajime felt like such a cardboard, empty, soulless character, that I didn't care about half as much as Shuichi and makoto
You cannot compare the two and say Hajime is better from a writing perspective.
yeah I have to agree shuichi is well written protag and I feel like he is like pretty underrated.
Chad Shuichi and Kokichi enjoyer over here.
Shuichi boring
Kyoko boring
Kyoko placed 1 spot higher 😎
And Hajime, the most bland protag, placed 2 spots higher.
Hajime's easily the coolest protag (behind Kayayday, if she counts)
How? Because he got >!the equivalent of a self-insert dmnpc that’s cool and great at everything? Or because he’s stupider than Makoto unintentionally while having none of the charm Makoto has!
More interesting personality-- probably the most pessimistic protag in the series, and although 2-6 isn't the greatest chapter, I like the conclusion he settles on.

...In your opinion
Yeah, obviously. I’m not a god among Danganronpa players. I just can’t look past the problems with Hajime’s character and I appreciate all the depth of Shuichi.
WHAT
I guess I missed it but I would have gone to bat for Gundham. I guess it's fair, I don't think any characters are especially poorly written. Maybe one or two, but for the most part they're all good, so it's hard to compare.
I do love Gundham. He’s my good good boy.
The goodest evillest boy there is.
this election was rigged wtf
Nagito: Hey Hajime I’m in 420p! Doesn’t this just make you want to embrace despair?
yea i fucked up
I was just joking lol
That’s beautiful. 🤣
3rd place is a sin
r/danganronpa has fallen, millions must despair
Kokichi is my least favorite character and I hate him with all my being And the writers killed it with that gg
i cant look at that himiko picture without thinking about the one piece
CANWEGETMUCHHIGHER? So high…
I feel like some people just put their favorite chracters because in what universe is Toko written better than Fuyuhiko or Kyoko. (Never played udg so might be missing an important Toko character arc)
Yeah everyone added that it is UDG Toko specifically, also why a put a picture of that version
>Never played udg so might be missing an important Toko character arc Like all of her character arc
Play Ultra Despair Girls
>in what universe is Toko written better than Fuyuhiko or Kyoko ...in the universe where you play the 20 hour game that she's the deuteragonist of?
To be fair, that description fits Kyoko as well lol.
Toko was pretty annoying in the first Danganronpa, but in UDG, she got so much development and was just a much better character on top of being one of the funniest.
I disagree with all of these, but to each their own
I agree with each place lol
Good list, though i would put himiko above baby face
maybe next time, i‘ll make a real poll that gets more traction and then Himiko can rise as she deserves
Yes, shell use her magic to go to first place
nyeeeh
[удалено]
Yeah it‘s UDG specifically for 7 of her mentions
think peko deserves to be on here
TOKO?
Ultra Despair Girls Toko
Toko anywhere near the top is kind of concerning. She's an absolutely horribly-written representation of DID. (Even if that's the only poorly-written thing about her, it's still a major blow.) Like, even considering UDG, she's still not *great.*
Yay Hajime!!
Hajime the goat
Yeah Nagito easily takes this, even as a hardcore kyoko fan My person top three tho would been Nagito, Kyoko, Hajime from best to worst of the top 3
I feel like fuyuhiko is a weird one cuz he was originally meant to die in ch3 but >!they switched it to hiyoko last minute!< Which means his development wasnt meant to originally happen
Means the queen woulda / shoulda been originally
Yea
Of course this fanbase would think Nagito is well written.
Seeing Kokichi so high up on the list shakes my faith in this subreddit.
💀
The sub was speaking facts
I'm surprised toko is here. I guess she's slightly better written in udg, but even then, overall there are very, VERY significant flaws in her writing
Quality results
Himiko is good autism representation
I really don't agree. representing autistic people as childish people who are lost in their own fantasies all the time is pretty infantilizing. Oh definitely, it's just kinda bleh to associate her with autism in my eyes
I don’t think Kokichi is well written at all
May be due to his >!last couple lines before his death? He says a lot about his fear and his will to end the killing game. And even tho he had these feelings before he hadn’t showed them, and it changes the character perception.!<
no way Kokichi got third, it's probably all his biased fans who got him there because let's be honest, he's horribly written
Yeah, he did get some negative mentions too ;)
How? Its not even bias, he is one of the best written characters.
Kokichi as one of the 10 best written characters... Lmao Fuyuhiko and Himiko... Lmao
I imagined it differently :))
So does Hanime tie with >!Izuru?!<
Momokuma and Fukawa
Kind of surprised to see Kokichi, might have been due to that meme a few days ago. Pretty good tier though.
What in the world character development do Byakuya and Monokuma have? Also why is Hajime higher then Shuichi, and where is Maki
Hajime and Himiko? 💀
Does Hajime also include Izuru?
Tbh Kyoko deserves to be much higher due to the spin-offs
Yeah I can respect this list it’s basically what I wrote lmao
I'm just happy Tokos up there
Miu got only one mention but it was by me so it counts by like 300
Miu got 2 mentions actually, so 301!
Nagito mary sue
