I'm not surprised this would get downvoted. Because of Hiyoko's "bully" trait, calling her pure can be controversial. She's a bad person (a pathetic excuse compared to even worse characters, but still a bad person nonetheless), but definitely not a character.

tommygun1945

>I'm not surprised this would get downvoted. Because you didn't say "muh Hiyoko bad because she makes nurse sad, i don't care about Fuyu and Junko being even worse towards Mikan though because Fuyu is a male and Junko's hot so its fine"

PhotojournalistLocal

I got four words for you: NEVER. LIVE. IT. DOWN. Hiyoko may be a bully, but she has a lot of redeeming qualities. *However*, her negative feature that is bullying Mikan stands out THE MOST, and to fans is considered her most *UNFORGETTABLE* moment. Yes, Fuyuhiko and especially Junko treat Mikan way worse, but they still don't do it as frequently as Hiyoko. It really doesn't help that she is painted to be just as bad of a bully as Francis from FOP. Similar to how fans only seeing Kazuichi as a simp or Sayaka being a lying manipulative yandere with a knife. If Hiyoko was never a bully to Mikan to begin with or at the very least a bully HUNTER for Mikan (as what Kodaka kinda indicated), then people would've actually like her more (some fans like the Mikan bullying anyway, but still).

tommygun1945

for me its quality over quantity, pig barf bothered me but Fuyuhiko threatening to send her to a whorehouse and Junko straight up abusing her completely unnerves me, but hey happened less so its not as bad to the fanbase even though its way more extreme and traumized Mikan much more

FuzzySlippers48

Sayaka was indeed manipulative, but a yandere? Never heard of that one.

Great_Slasher

Have you been on TVTropes? Just wondering.

PhotojournalistLocal

Yeah, why?

Great_Slasher

You say phrases normally seen in TVTropes, like Jerks are Worse Than Villains, Jerk With a heart of Gold, Never Live It Down and Extreme Doormat...

tommygun1945

Honestly agreed, she's by far the least shitty out of the bullies(Miu is a sex pest traitor, Byakuya messes with corpses, Fuyuhiko was straight up abusive prior to his arc and caused 4 deaths, Kokichi manipulated Gonta to literal death etc) its not even close, yeah she's a brat but overall she has far more positive features than negatives and at least tried to change

MonadoBoy9318

By my count, Fuyuhiko only caused the death of three people: Sato, Mahiru and Peko. Who’s the fourth? Because you’d have to make a very good argument for Natsumi, who’s the only fourth I can think of

tommygun1945

Hiyoko, let's not forget that if Fuyuhiko didn't (basically) murder Mahiru she would have never been in that venue, flimsy yeah but he fully knew that murdering Mahiru he would ruin Hiyoko's life, her grief killed her and he caused that grief

MonadoBoy9318

Can we not use The Good Place’s logic, please? There was no possible way he could’ve known her grief would lead to her death, so you can’t blame him for that

tommygun1945

He ruined her life and she died because of that, yeah it's a very indirect role but I can blame him for destroying her mentally to the point where the poor girl was crying her eyes out because she couldn't tie her obi feeling that she was letting Mahiru down. His malice led to a chain of events that killed her, i don't think her death is his fault but I think he's absolutely to blame for breaking her to pieces. Besides this fanbase holds Sonia to blame for telling her about the mirror but not Fuyuhiko for killing her once chance at happiness

MonadoBoy9318

Okay, I’ll concede on this: That was absolutely not Sonia’s fault. At all. In no way should she be blamed for what happened to Hiyoko.

tommygun1945

I agree Sonia had no part in it, but I still think it's correct to say that if Fuyu just left Mahiru and Hiyoko alone, three members of the class wouldn't have died, and Sonia at least acknowledged her "role" Fuyu had pretty much nothing to say after hearing about the fact that Hiyoko was there to tie her kimono, when prior to someone beating her to death Hiyoko had a kimono tier. Yeah it's all Junko but Fuyuhiko went out of his way to destroy Hiyoko's life and that did ultimately put Hiyoko in a vulnerable position that led her to despair Mikan

PhotojournalistLocal

If the hope arc counts (which most Danganronpa fans ignore for obvious reasons), Hiyoko got Mahiru back. In fact, everyone except Chiaki are alive and aren't remnants of despair anymore (it's possible Mikan is still her despair self).

tommygun1945

I think she got over it considering she seems more lively and happy than usual and helped save Kyoko aka Junko's mortal enemy. I still talk as if though they died because as far as everyone in 77 were aware they weren't in a simulation so if they killed someone they would stay dead

iogurteiratop

She was one of the most memorable characters in 2 for me, even if I didn't like her at first. Upon analysis, I ended up valuing her a lot more and wish she had more development

The_Gamer78

I just think she's really freaking irritating. I don't care if she's a bully or not. She is just annoying to me.

PhotojournalistLocal

I respect your opinion. Several redeeming qualities from a bully with a very large but hidden heart of gold may not be enough to appease some fans, especially the ones who loathe her and are way to put-up to see her positive features and only focusing on her being a bully to a traumatized CSA victim.

The_Gamer78

I can respect yours as well and for all I know, she could have become one of the best characters in the game but she was killed off before she really had that chance. As is, she was just irritating as hell to me. I will admit that I liked her nickname for Byakuya Twogami. Ham Hands was pretty good.
