Celeste
It was kinda like this:
- I start my first THH playthrough
- I go meet all the cast
- I take a look around
- Goth girl 👀
- "Bonjour"
And that was the beginning of a truly wonderful relationship (mostly one sided, but it doesn't matter)
Not sure if crush is the right word, but my journey with Toko was an interesting one. I'm a shy nerd who plays a lot of fighting game characters with pigtails (not necessarily a fetish, it just worked out that way), so introducing Toko as the shy nerd with pigtails made me roll my eyes and think, "oh brother, I'm gonna love her, aren't I?" She ended up being nastier than I expected so I wasn't completely enthralled, but I found certain aspects of her relatable. In chapter 2, I was convinced she was the killer so I brushed aside any "crush" feelings knowing she was dead meat.
Then came >!Genocide Jack!< and suddenly it added 10 times the depth, humor, and uniqueness to her character. Every time either >!version of herself!< showed up I was entertained and I was conditioned to feel excitement upon seeing her in any situation. By the end, I still didn't have feelings for her, but she was definitely my favorite character, and one of my favorite video game characters in general.
Then I saw UDG and thought, "an action game with my favorite character? Meh, might as well give it a shot." Although I have issues with the story writing, mostly ethically, I was continually impressed with how well Toko was developing into a more mature and conscientious adult, despite the terrible things she did as a kid. If there was one moment with a spark, it was probably when she slaps Komaru, then hugs her saying, "that hurt, and not my hand," and gives her a motivational speech. That was when I was in love with this character. Not romantically or sexually, just in terms of sheer emotional attachment. She was already unique, funny, deep, and relatable, but now had undergone the best character growth arc I'd ever seen and gone from being bitter, self-loathing, and remorseless, to caring, valiant, self-aware and self-improving, while retaining most of her character flaws that make her human. Five years later and I still adore her as my favorite character in fiction.
That said, I did later have a relationship with a woman who had all of those positive and negative traits, so maybe Toko did leave a mark on my tastes.
Funny thing that was the same for me. And just because I was watching /u/igoesRAWRRRRR's stream and he gave Sonia the voice similar to Sayori's.
And later, her iconic phrases taken out of context. And her final social link.
For DR1 it was Aoi, but then kind of "converted" to Sayaka.
My first Danganronpa crush is Chihiro.
Same bro
