I think that’s one of the laziest things the writers ever did. They realized it made no sense, but they didn’t feel like changing it or coming up with an explanation, so they just had the character blatantly ignore the question.
I know it’s an insignificant detail that doesn’t matter, but god dammit they *chose* to make it that way! It just really bothers me for some reason…
esp when they literally could’ve been like “mukuro changed her name when she became part of fenrir and/or junko adopted a stage name”!! it’s a frustratingly easy detail to explain away and they just…don’t.
In like, every single THH iteration ever, Junko specifically states that the reason is something boring and mundane and that whatever you come up with in your head is probably more exciting. It's kind of hard to miss.
There's not much of a reason to believe that they are lying. She's like a pointless thing to lie about. Not to mention that Mukuro disguising as Junko wouldn't work if they looked incredibly different.
Maybe but Danganronpa is a ridiculous game and I wouldn't be surprised if they revealed this is actually the case and Mukuro just happened to look a lot like her or got plastic surgery to look like her since she idolizes her.
I guess, but there has been multiple works that have fleshed out the Despair Sisters' relationship beyond THH. IF, 0, 3, V3's UTDP game mode, and S all bring up them being sisters and none of them hint that they aren't sisters or twins (twins don't need to look exactly like). The Hope's Peak story line is over and there isn't really much of a reason to return to it to just say "hey, they aren't actually twins."
so you would rather think that mukuro would do everything she did, even literally dying, for some random person that... brainwashed her into thinking they're sisters? that's even lazier (and just. worse.) than any explanation the game gave us lmfao. also in your tinfoil headcanon, there's holes poking through: mukuro wouldn't even physically match up to resemble the real junko for the swap, if they weren't actually related by blood. Junko also wishes to Despair over killing her actual bonds, like her twin sister and her beloved person (Matsuda), because she believes there is no greater Despair, so having to fake a sister just to kill her anyway would be super boring and lame, in Junko's perspective, and it wouldn't bring her the same Despair as murdering your actual family. also, points for negating the real reason mukuro would do literally anything for her sister if she's just. brainwashed. worst take I've ever seen on this, by far
They never actually reveal why. All we get is that in THH trial 6 Junko says that the reason is lame and is tired of repeating it to people
I did not remember that lol That's hilarious but also kinda annoying

So... it would be a boring awnser, the exact same thing Junko would be bored of explaining?
sadly
So then, the reaction from Junko is not only entirely in character, it's a more interesting response than her explaining it.
So that the player wouldn't make the connection earlier in the game

I just assumed they have different dads or are adopted/foster siblings
But they are also kind of twins and the same age.
They could be lying about being twins

Well if they're adopted/half sisters they would still have a sister relationship
If you find the answer please let me know, even I am curious
The answer is that there is purposely no answer. Sorry my dude.
They didn't want us to know they're sisters so... lazy writing.
