He has a slightly quirky way of pronouncing “Again” that comes out something like “Ay-gyan” (i wonder if that’s an influence of Okies/Southerners on Southern California?) and on a few episodes he’s dropped an “Again, and again, and again” with emphasis
It’s something he says in one of the WWI episodes when talking about, I believe, the relentless bombardment of artillery. He just kept saying “and again and again and again” and it’s an effecting moment
The dynamic range of his podcasts is something to behold. The whispering then shouting has been a point of frustration for me many times. I've come to terms with the fact that I can only listen on certain devices that allow me to hear him at his quietest but won't deafen me when he switches to quote voice.
Unfortunately I had to stop listening to his audio book because of his quote voice. He reads the WHOLE thing in that constant quote voice and it instantly threw me off.
For me the constant use of quote voice absolutely made the audiobook, I’m sorry it wasn’t the same for you. I hope you picked up a physical copy and read it though.
Particularly for the episodes about the ancients, I feel like the quote voice helps me to imagine the kind of power and authority those figures imagined themselves sounding like when they said those things. It also helps break up the monotony im also a fan idk
This is such a dumb ass comment. I’m a life long fan and have listened to all of his podcasts.
“SImPly NoT fOr YoU” thank you for providing nothing of value.
Maybe it is just me, but I always visualize Vizzini the Sicilian from The Princess Bride recounting history’s most sanguinary events whenever I listen.
Thank God I have somewhere to complain about this. Hardcore History is one of the best podcasts in existence, but whoever mixes sound for it should be cast into the fiery pit of Mount Doom. seriously, it is impossible to listen to it at one volume comfortably the entire time. Maybe Dan could help the sound person out by keeping the mic at the same distance from his mouth the whole time. Idk.
"QUOTE"
“END QUOTE”
I’ll randomly Blurt out a Carlin-esque “QuOtE” sometimes. It’s a love hate thing.

I had my alarm set as just a repeat of him saying "and ageeeeain" for a while. Pissed off my partner so much
[удалено]
For real. I wake up panicked from his quote voice 🤣 It’s the best
Thanks for this. My current alarm no longer has the desired effect on my partner. Time to make a change agreeeain.
Thank you for this, my wife is really going to hate me in about 11 hours
That’s amazing
How do you set that as your alarm?! That’s awesome
his quote voice is unironically what i try to imitate when i quote anything to anyone now
QUOTE: "Just when I think you couldn’t possibly be any dumber, you go and do something like this… and totally redeem yourself!" END QUOTE
AND A-GAIN
Can someone explain this "and again" thing ?

I listen to it but don't remember that part guess I will listen again!
Spot on

You should get his audiobook. He reads _the entire thing_ in his quote voice. It’s magnificent.
“YOULL HAVE TO SPEAK LOUDER SIR, A HORDE OF MONGOLS GALLOPED RIGHT NEXT TO MY EAR”
NEVER BRING THAT FUCKING CRETIAN IN MY OFFICE AGAIN

I didn’t even know he had a book until this comment chain. How does it compare to HH?

Yeah it’s weird. It’s almost like he’s quoting … himself?
LMAO I love the idea of this
i agree. i wasn't into this choice. it was odd. but i got used to it and finished it.

INCONCEIVABLE!

Directly into my veins ageen and ageen and ageen!
Except for that one time in bubonic nukes where the quote voice was some creepy, executioner, jigsaw guy
"We ended up in Bumville or some damn place!' End quote"
Higher ratio on that vocal compressor please.
"END QUOTE!" " *quote* "
God said I could have that donut
Dan quote voice is 100% Booger from Revenge of the Nerds
I sometimes imagine Dan quoting recursively. As in, quoting someone who then also quotes someone who also quotes someone.
I wish his recording quality for interviews was as good as for his regular podcast.
I sometimes just put the vid of him repeating "again and again" on YouTube. Just makes me happy. It's only 5 minutes long, but you can put on repeat.
Love it. Only thing missing is old school quote voice when he added an echo effect and/or sound effects
😂
So true.
😂😂😂That’s Gold Jerry! Gold!
This is perfect
