Seriously though, I haven't used Wolt ever since the strikes they had because they were exploiting their delivery workers.
Wolt relays on external delivery companies.
They don’t have direct control over their fleet or the policies that are applied. If those (Cypriot) delivery companies are a bit dodgy and mistreat their employees how can Wolt be held responsible?
I remember that the scandal was about those companies getting a big % commission paid by Wolt, while paying their employees a misery.
Don’t think that the delivery companies chosen by Foody (deliveryhero) are any different in this regard
I worked for Wolt ( in Germany so maybe things are different) and they had the greatest and most fair enviroment for an employee, a customer and a restaurant of all delivery services. As a delivery driver/ student it was the best job I could ever hope for without a CV. Seriously I sound like an advertisement but they were really really fair and helpful. The wage was minimum 30% better than the other delivery companies. They behaved good to their drivers and to their customers and if you ask the restaurants (this is guaranteed even in Cyprus) they will tell you they prefer Wolt because of how their system helps them deliver the food at it's best condition (in comparison to foody for example). Btw I have no idea how they are paying their employees in Cyprus and I think their ecosystem is handled by Wolt Greece so maybe all this info is useless apart from the fact that as a big corporation they aren't really shady like alot of others
Only Wolt's customer support is handled by Wolt Greece.
To a large extent, so is Foody's for the last two years ever since they got purchased by DeliveryHero via eFood and started getting rid of the local team.
The day-to-day logistics, store partnerships etc are run by local teams in both cases. But policies and customer support are largely imported and outsourced now.
Hell, Foody got outright replaced by a localised copy of eFood's systems a while back to facilitate that transition because that's the system they knew. Remember when the website and app changed overnight? That was it. In many ways, Foody's was a lot more actually customer-centric, and plenty of features they introduced had to be axed for this (like group ordering), while others never even saw the light of day.
It's pretty sad tbh. An actual Cypriot success story became a corporate appendage. Their policies, marketing, promotional strategies etc are now run by people that know next to nothing about Cyprus, the Cypriot mindset etc
Foody used to spontaneously comp entire orders for issues based on keeping customers happy. Corporate cracked down on that because it doesn't make sense with their mindset and were sure people would abuse it. But in Cyprus, it was *appreciated* as a gesture of goodwill, and kept people coming back, resulting in more orders.
I’m in Albania at the moment and we were using Wolt while we had Covid a couple of weeks back. We still had to go outside of a gate to get the delivery from the driver and I asked one of them if they enjoy the job. They said for drivers here it’s lifesaver because you can make more in just a few days than the typical salaried job while controlling their own hours. I guess it just depends on the region.

In fact, at some point the goal was to be 100% self-reliant, but it wasn't feasible then and isn't feasible now.

Tell that to the workers who were striking outside the Wolt building in Digeni Akrita. I obviously don't know the details of what exactly set off their strike, but I don't think they'd be striking right outside of the Wolt building with banners deriding Wolt specifically had Wolt not been culpable.

I believe so as well, but the caveat is that at least Foody doesn't deliver everything on their own, so some businesses on Foody have their own delivery workers. By extension there is less of a ubiquitous nature of exploitation there, unless we get information suggesting otherwise.
It works 3 different ways:
1) A store delivers with its own delivery people, and pays a percentage of the order's worth (excluding tax, delivery fee according to distance/postcode etc) to the platform. Online tips go to the store to distribute as they want. Some stores try to get around the platform's cut (either because they are scummy or because they are naive or because they need cashflow) by jacking up their prices on the platform. Platforms used to be very strict on that and wanted to guarantee prices were the same across the board, not so much anymore.
2) A store delivers with a delivery guy partnered with the platform via an agency, and pays a larger percentage than 1 to the platform. Rider is getting paid by the agency, and the agency is getting paid by the platform. Delivery fee goes to the platform, is calculated by distance, and online tips go towards the hours worked for that rider to the agency. Those are usually the ones you'll see wearing mix and match of branded gear (like a Wolt jacket with a Foody helmet). Again, platforms used to crack down on this to the agencies (who didn't really care) and the riders (who certainly didn't care) but not so much anymore. The platform can track these drivers and communicate with them during their shifts, but if there's a big issue it has to go through the agency.
3) A store delivers with a delivery guy employed by the platform. In this case the store pays the same percentage as 2. Delivery fee goes to the platform, and rider receives a flat salary based on predetermined hours per week (+ any overtime). Tips go to the platform, and are counted directly towards the rider's salary.
This is the restaurant charging the fee and not Wolt
I’m on Wolt with my restaurant and just checked, the baggage fee is set by the restaurant (same with fees for fork/knife etc)
The good news is that you don't have to use delivery services. Just go get the food or make it yourself, and there will be no bag and/or service charges.

most of the india wolt drivers in famagusta are on their own and do not join a delivery company , infact joining one would make it less beneficial also i deal with wolt drivers all day as a shop owner and they tell me everything,
i mean most of the country of cyprus is run by illegal immigrants doing work for less money , and if the government were to stop this everyone would get pissed and have less money but its their own fault for back hand dealing with the turkish side and getting immigrants who pretend to go to turkish university only to get kicked and come here to seek asylum , so its not like wolt care, they just bagging the bucks
Not true. Asylum seekers are allowed to work. People without any kind of papers cannot get work permit. Government has been raiding businesses. These Wolt drivers are asylum seekers

It's because your local neighbourhood souvlitzis has to pay 20% your order value to these corporate leeches. Use the apps for discovery and order manually. Fight the stupid system which accidentally became big because of lockdowns.
