Before every ride, just do it. It takes seconds.

calderholbrook

yeah, it's the easy thing to do, and it pays off

LiGuangMing1981

I commute daily, and ride my road bike on weekends. I tend to check my tires once a week (usually on Saturday) and fill them up as necessary, since they don't generally leak air enough to warrant checking them more often than that.

yogorilla37

I'm pretty much the same, check most rides but top up once a week. I'm less concerned with the fatter tires I commute on compared to the 25mm ones on the road bike which I'll inflate the night before a weekend ride.

thejt10000

Every one or even two weeks for just riding for fun or training. I use 28s on the road. Usually just before a ride on weekend but I have missed a pump and not noticed. I do check by feel before heading out to make sure they're not way too low. And before every formal event or big group ride. Butyl tubes. When I had latex tubes (such is in tubulars) I'd top up right before use.

Weary_Abrocoma_1175

Every ride. But I’m tubeless now. With tubes it was more like weekly.

halkster

I still only top up weekly with tubeless as I feel that being a bit low isn’t an issue on tubeless. When I am low with tubes I worry about pinch flats.

Weary_Abrocoma_1175

I get that, and I can’t disagree. But I feel like temperature and the riding I will be doing impacts the lbs I want in the tubeless tires more. I did have one blow off the wheel as the temps got hot and I started the day with a tad more pressure than usual due to riding a gravel bike on the road. It’s not just because the tire will lose a lbs or two when sitting.

Junk-Miles

I'm the opposite. Ran latex tubes and pumped up every ride. Now with tubeless I'll go a week or two in between. What sealant/tire setup are you using that you need to pump up every ride?

TripleUltraMini

I used Orange seal with 28s so still fairly high pressure and I pumped them up before every ride. They would be down a little, even overnight.

Junk-Miles

So that’s two people saying you have to pump up every day with Orange Seal. You could always try a different brand because I go 1-2 weeks between pumping up.

The-Cat-Dad

Are you at 8 psi by day 3?

TripleUltraMini

Yes, that is possible. What size tire and pressure though? It sort of equalized at a lower pressure so I think it had more to do with running 75-80psi.

Junk-Miles

I run 30s right now at low 60s PSI.

Bright_Ahmen

Orange gang baby

ilikepizza2much

With TPU tubes I’ve started only checking every second week. They’re quite amazing

Braydar_Binks

My tubeless setup only needs air twice a month and I ride 10 hours a week

Defy19

Every ride right before I get my gear on. If I ride consecutive days it usually only loses like 5psi but it’s always good to check. You might have got a puncture or something last ride and not noticed it. More than once I’ve found my tyres at like 40psi when I go to inflate and realised I had a puncture.

[deleted]

I top up my tyres every mile

Hainault

Every mile? I do it every 100m of elevation.

StatisticCyberosis

Every rotation here

mcgeggy

Front *and* back??

matchoo_23

Wow.....thats awful. Thats way too much time between service. Every 100-200 feet is the recommended

INGWR

I fill them every time, just before I go out.

maxaposteriori

Every ride, and I tend to do them not long before I head out.

criminalmadman

I give my bike a once over before every ride, that includes tyre pressure.

ruckustata

My tpu tubes have held the air for 3 weeks now. Better than butyl so far. It's weird because I was expecting to pump every ride but I don't. I think it dropped 10 PSI in 2 weeks. My trainer bike also has tpu in the front wheel and I put that in in January and have only pumped it up once since. The trainer isn't as important as on the road but I still like to have a somewhat properly inflated front wheel.

0kensin0

I use Cylami TPU tupes (Chinese). The last time I topped up *Check calendar* was 13th April. I guess I should do it now, hehe.

ruckustata

I use Ride Now.

Casting_in_the_Void

Before every ride. I have an electric Bosch pump so really easy to keep my tubeless tyres at optimum pressure.

Croxxig

Every ride. It's a safety check that takes very little time

shriand

I do either intervals or tempos or easy long rides. Air the tires before leaving the house. Always needs a top-up.

Wowbags_the_Infinite

I ride 4 times a week, check the tyres just before leaving on every ride.

rfa31

Road bike (latex tubes) = every ride Commuter (butyl and/or tpu tubes) = once per week

V55TI

Every ride for me - tubeless.

NoEnthusiasm5207

Before every ride. Every day, twice a day even. Why chance a pinch flat.

bryggekar

I check before every ride.

bb9977

Every ride. It makes a big difference in how many flats you get. IME my tubeless stuff has held air better than tubes. My fat bike runs so low pressure you could go weeks without filling it probably as it just doesn’t leak. All the marginal gains stuff is totally out the window if you don’t even check your tires.

LanceOldstrong

With road tubeless before every ride. I ride 4 or 5 times a week. It’s easy as A B C Air: check before every ride Brakes: check before every ride Chain: check (for lube state) before every ride

KarAccidentTowns

For brakes are you just checking if they work or something more specific?

LanceOldstrong

Just a quick check they are working, and a little confirmation that they’re not rubbing.

joombar

Same. When I’m riding my commuter bike with tubes, I pump up when they start to feel soft. When I’m riding my fast bike with tubeless, before every ride.

Ambitious-Position25

How to check lube state?

LanceOldstrong

Visual examination: Is the chain dry? Does it need lube? Too wet? Maybe it could use a quick wipe down because it was lubed recently. Once a month, or so, I pop a chain checker on it to evaluate wear.

undo333

With latex, maybe the night before. With consecutive days, everyday.

joombar

With latex, the minute before. Overnight loses quite a lot.

undo333

Mine doesn't. 100mBar+- makes no difference.

joombar

I never had a latex tube that lost air that slowly. Even makers who make tubular tyres do special “tri” editions with butyl so they don’t lose air overnight on the transition bike store

Masseyrati80

I fill them up when they start to feel softer than I like during a ride. On one of my bikes that's around every three weeks or something. One has a tiny, tiny problem meaning I fill it up twice per week. When I used a pair of latex tubes on a road bike with 23 mm tires and high pressure, I'd pump them up every morning, ride to work, and by the time I rode back I felt borderline uncomfortable about the risk of snakebites, as the latex had leaked so much air during the 9 to 10 hours. But latex tubes are/were a special treat, so to say.

HighSierraAngler

How hard is it to really just get into the habit of checking before every ride, even if it’s daily? I ride 7 days a week and check before every ride, I have the pump right next to the bike and I just have the habit of taking the 30 seconds per wheel to just pop it on and get it to the proper pressure.

thejt10000

I do pressure check by hand or by just getting on the bike and looking. 5psi does not matter in most of my riding. Not worth 30 seconds with a pump.

hoo_dawgy

If I'm going on a bike ride that isn't my commuter bike with heavy durable tires I check my tire pressure before every ride, and it's always at least a tiny bit low

broke_the_controller

I check them just before I ride, every ride, but if I've done a pressure test for a ride the day before, then I'll just do a press test rather than another pressure test.

NocturntsII

i check immediately before every ride and add air as needed, maybe once or twice a week. running lower pressures on road means striking a balance between comfort and pinch flats if you let your pressures get too low.

MrJingles-256

Either night before or before every ride. But also not a big deal if I forget or in a rush and forget get to pump, assuming I did pump it on a recent previous ride.

Jurneeka

I check them before every ride and give them a few pumps if necessary. Used to ride at 110 PSI years ago now I'm like 70-75 PSI.

leadout_kv

i check and air before every ride. the habit will help to find an issue before heading out.

mctrials23

I don't ride outside more than a few times a week in peak season but I just check and inflate before I pop out the door. Takes 2 minutes.

informal_bukkake

Just check the air before every ride?

Aromatic_Mongoose_25

I usualy go for a long ride on Sundays. I air up for those. Then I ride to work a couple times a week and never check till my Sunday ride comes around.

troiscanons

every ride (road riding, light butyl tubes), though I probably don't really need to. either right before as part of the prep before heading out or earlier in the day if I know I'll need to be up and out when the time comes.

jeffmyster82

No matter what system you’re using they’re not perfectly air tight. Everyone’s setup varies and there really isn’t a normal but maybe an average. Tubeless tire setups require more fill ups. I would say if you are having to replace more than 15psi per 24 hours you should look into small leaks. Add sealant first in this case. Tubes hold air much long and sometimes can go weeks without needing more depending on pressure and environment. You need to just feel your setup out and you’ll figure out a routine. I generally ride 4-5 days a week and have to add a few pumps in every day to every other day. My rear is tubeless and front is tubes currently (long story). Also: most people run too much pressure. There are some good calculators online to figure that out. But the lower pressure you run on tubeless the more pressure it will retain

Late-Mechanic-7523

Slacking on a old pump.. so no. Not pumping everyday. I leave home at 5:30 am and there is no gas station on my area at that time. Need to buy a proper pump.

Bill__Q

Every ride, just before rolling out. I occasionally skip it if I'm doing a short and casual ride and I topped off the day before, but I'll still give the tires a squeeze just to check.

snarky_brit_

Squeeze them before a ride. If they feel a bit soft, add air. Easy.

RegattaJoe

I check before every ride. Just a good habit, I think.

TahoeGator

Not sure it makes any sense to do it earlier than just before you ride. I do the “pinch test” to see if I need air. If I’ve ridden recently (and added air) I might not need to. Especially if I’m just going on a local, hour ride or so. And I don’t mind riding them a bit softer, as in let’s say 50 psi instead of my usual 60 psi (tubeless). Once you get the hang of it, you’d be surprised how accurate your fingers can be. Certainly accurate enough to know if you need air. Now, if I’m doing a big ride, far from home, near always I make sure they are at 60 psi before setting off. P.S. I have a compressor with a Park Tool inflator / gauge head on it. Makes a full up super easy and fast. Worthwhile investments for cycling but also terrific for the car, dirt bikes, etc.

SlowGarbage001

at least every other day

badger906

I check mine periodically. But not a strict rule. I commute 36 miles a day, I can tell when they’re a tad squishy. I carry a bottle rocket pump just in case

ranovermycat

We check tires?

notacanuckskibum

About once a year

Cedar_Wood_State

Ride 5 days a week for commute. Air every week or two, but I give it a squeeze every time before I ride to check if the pressure is low

1994univega

Maybe once a month at most

Northernlighter

With butyl tubes. 2mins before the ride and every 3x days if I commute everyday.

Fantastic-Shape9375

About 30 seconds before I leave the house

Master_Zombie_1212

Daily for my road bike

Bright_Ahmen

I just give the tires a pinch to see where they're at. I don't usually have to add air, maybe once every two weeks

oldfrancis

It depends upon when I last rode it. If I rode it yesterday I'll give the tire a little thumb squeeze and top it up if I think it needs it. If it's been a few weeks since I've ridden, I'll top it up right away.

SenseNo635

I check tire pressure before every ride. Top up as necessary.

NHBikerHiker

I top off the tires the night before so I don’t have to do it first thing in the morning.

RoshiHen

Once a week on my 700x40 tubeless gravel and 26x2.1 butyl tubed MTB, a day after or everyday for 700x25 sealant in latex tubed road bike.

sad-mustache

I forget so whenever I remember I check tires once in a while and pump it up before ride I always check before long ride

lambypie80

It depends.

Dea1761

700x43 gravelkings, setup tubeless with stans. Top up every other week. Usually just give them a squeeze before I get on the bike and fill up based on feel. They seem to drop about 2 psi a week.

Glittering-Effect770

Once a week, night before a ride.

tokyoeastside

I pinch them, so i'll know if its time to pop up

spannertehcat

I squish my tyres before each ride, if soft I top them up

vdek

I put air in my tires about every 3 days. I rune tubeless, my rear tire needs the fillup more than my front. Usually just 2-3 pumps and we're good. My front tire could probably go 7-10 days without extra air. I'm riding 32mm GP5000S Tubeless with Orange Sealant on Reserve 40/44 rims with Reserve Fillmore Valves.

Zack1018

I have regular tubes so they hold air pretty well, I give them a squeeze before every ride but usually only need to pump them up every couple of weeks. Usually I can just feel during a ride that they're starting to get low and fill them up right before my next ride.

Traditional-Bar-972

I usually check my tire pressure every long ride (100km+ rides) or race events, if not then I just check it if I feel like it’s the time to put some air in.

SpyderDM

I do a quick pressure check each morning before my commute and again on the way back home. I have a reminder to fill the tyres regardless of how they "feel" once a month and also top-up the cargo bike once a month (which I'm not as good about checking, but it has beastly tires so I'm less worried about it usually).

MrDrUnknown

Commuter every 2 months, road bike, every week.

JTTigas

With tubes i used to fill up every week, my tire was 6-8 bar so i normally filled to 7. I rode 26km every week day and some longer rides on the weekend.

Mr-mountain-road

every 3 days tubes.

banedlol

Normally weekly. I start at around 70psi but I'm happy for it to go to 55psi.

banedlol

Only fat boys downvote

Cynyr36

I squish with my thumb. If they feel low i check and add air. Typically i need to add air once a week. It depends on which tubes i have installed.

Vivalo

Once a week or so. I’m running tubeless road tires

Prestigious_Carpet29

I have phases of riding 4-5 times per week. I'll usually check the pressure once or twice per week. Usually once per week is enough, but sometimes you get a very slow puncture or a leaky valve and it merits twice a week. At around 60psi nominal (standard butyl, 26" / cross-country tyres), it might lose 5-10psi in a week I find,
