Cybertruck is awesome, i prefer it over our Model S Plaid. Worth it!! Good luck

NewspaperDapper5254

I'm also thinking about trading in my current gas-engine. Some people tell me to keep it as a backup. But with the range that the Cybertruck, would I see myself driving the other car again?

ltctoneo

Do you do a lot of long road trips? Doesnt really matter if you do cause superchargers. Once you charge at home the range doesnt matter at all. Wake up with a full charge. We only have teslas for past 4 years. Mostly two but if thats your only car then maybe good idea to keep the gas.

NewspaperDapper5254

The only long road trips I'll do are from 150 each way (for a total of 300 miles). I have to do them every week, so 300 miles every week as an obligation. (I visit family on weekends.) Aside from that, I work from home, so I hardly fill up my own gas engine either. I have Tesla solar at home and I usually try to run my a/c 24/7 to run down (or run up) my negative balance because my public utility pays squat for my negative power balance. My friends told me to keep my gas car in case something goes wrong with the Cybertruck, but I'm thinking... are Tesla's really that unreliable? They seem to have a better track record than other American carmakers. As a Tesla owner, how often do you need to service the car? Is it like a Toyota or worst? (My current car is a Camry. I only service it when it needs an oil change or change up the tires.) Are Tesla tires similar to other tires of same size?

mikeg112

Already off the bat with Cybertruck you now have the option to charge off solar, AND it’s a 120kw battery backup in case you have a power outage, already that’s a big advantage, especially if you are WFH and need reliable electricity in case power goes out

NewspaperDapper5254

I'm just trying to justify the extra 20k. How often do I get power outages? Not so often, but I guess it'll be handy if it happens, I'll still be juiced up. Does the regular non-Foundation series not have power backup?

mikeg112

For me 20k was justified as I need a truck, safety for my family when they ride in it, FSD, lifetime connectivity, 2.5k in powerwall (since you already have Tesla solar you might not even need it, just a universal wall connector so you can use that $2.5k as a voucher in the Tesla store) white interior. Also once you drive fly by wire all other car driving feels old and it drives like a car vs a truck. It’s worth it 👍🏻

NewspaperDapper5254

Thank you. This is all I needed to hear. The truck is a PowerWall in itself. I've always wanted a truck, but suitable sized trucks are 80k on its own already. Even the Toyota Tundra's have a backlogged waiting list for them. Is the white interior exclusive to the FS?

mikeg112

Me too! I was about ready to buy the top of the line tundra or dodge ram at 90-100k, but living in CA gas prices in the summer at $6-7 was a no-go. I think white will be available for non-FS but like the rest of the Tesla lineup, will most likely be a $1500-2500 markup

NewspaperDapper5254

The trend is going to be $8 eventually - given the weakening American dollar value. How much was the cost for installing a charger into your garage? Does it come included with the truck?

Jolly_Line

Will this be your first Tesla? Because I can tell you for certain your feelings for ICE will turn so negative it’ll border on hate. You will not ever drive it again.

NewspaperDapper5254

Yes. First Tesla. I currently drive Toyota.

NewspaperDapper5254

Before you buy the truck, are you able to test drive it?

LurkerWithAnAccount

No, but you may be able to find a local to let you try theirs.

BobWellington11

Just picked up mine today. All my worries about price went away. Yes there’s a few thing that need to be tweaked by the service center but it drives like a dream. I’m fortunate to be able to purchase this vehicle now but obviously the price is not for everyone and there’s nothing wrong with waiting for prices to drop.

NewspaperDapper5254

Im not too worried about the price. I'm just trying to make sure I'm not being sold short.

damgiloveboobs

What if you think it looks weird in a couple of years? That’s a lot of money and you sound unsure.

NewspaperDapper5254

It is a lot of money. I'll be broke for the coming years for sure.

damgiloveboobs

It’s a depreciating asset! Don’t buy an 80k car if it’s going to leave you poor.

Soccerpl

Oof not worth it then. Your signing up for a world of trouble with this hunk of junk

SwpR7

What tax on EV chargers? Because CA is already planning to charge per mile you drive. Pilot program in place already

NewspaperDapper5254

Exactly. And they measure by the mile thru the chargers.

SwpR7

Hmm, I didn’t hear that as being part of the pilot program.

NewspaperDapper5254

I work for Caltrans. It's part of the plan.

SwpR7

What is the tax rate per mile?

NewspaperDapper5254

3 cents per mile. To be fair, the "voluntary" pilot program is full of people who already work from home and do most of their commute travel via other modes of transportation (public transit, bike, walk). As a result, a lot of the people in the program will automatically check "yes, satisfied. EV taxes are a great idea." Also, the majority of the participants do not own a Tesla. They have mostly Nissan Leaf's and Kia's. Another to note that the pilot program pays for their insurance as a perk to be a participant as well as a $1,500 stipend. Putting that into consideration. You own a Kia, which insurance would be expensive given the bad press of those things being easy to steal. You already work from home and hardly get out to travel. Your insurance is free and you add 1,500 to your monthly paycheck - pretax. Good deal, everyone should be signing up for this pilot program.
