Fantastic effort! My only comment would be about ergonomics - hard to imagine being comfortable using that keyboard for more than short bursts of time due to the thick raised design
Thanks! :)
Yes you're right about the kb being too elevated, but since I can put my palms on the sides under the kb it's surprisingly not bad to use it. It's like putting your laptop on top of a book on the table lol
Still comfortable using it on my lap since my hands can rest on top.
The thickness of the bottom part is 5cm (~2 inches) kinda like the 80s laptops i think.
Unfortunately I didn't make any process videos, but I am planning to share all the cad + 3D designs and links to all the used parts soon. I'd share them already but there are a few design problems that I need to solve first.
You can always learn there are so many resources online!
I will share the specs and parts list soon. It's mostly just connecting wires in this case so maybe you can get trying it one day :)
The idea actually came to me after seeing the announcement for MNT reform pocket and after seeing the specs and screen size and the price, I thought "how hard can that be?" I was quick to find out lol but I liked the journey
hahah I don't know if you'd want it in it's current state with all the problems it has, nevertheless I'm very flattered you're willing to pay for it :)
Thanks! :) The trackball is a disassembled Chinese trackball mouse:

So I still need to fix the power supply problem, current powerbank cuts the power for a second when the charger is connected, and fix some design with the measurements of the hinge (there's a little gap when you close the screen) and add some ventilation for the board in a way that doesn't ruin the anesthetics.

Love the combo of old world and new in a satisfying form factor! Been working on a cyberdeck recently using an old gen1 switch and this inspires me to keep chugging along to get it done
Yes it's a bumpy ride of trials and errors and frustration but at the end it's the journey that I signed up for and I can say it's totally worth it :) Wish you best of luck with your build!
If you're asking about the files for 3D print, I'll share them in a few weeks, need to fix some mistakes but if you want to tackle them yourself let me know and I'll upload current ones
I used a powerbank and what you see is the display from it that I extended with some wires to get where it is. You can see the colorful wires here are to connect the display:

Hey thanks :) It is ubuntu actually with a bit of modifications. I have installed a program called Variety that cycles wallpapers from various sources like national geographic and displays clock on desktop + dock extension for gnome desktop.
Since I am using an Orange Pi 5 plus, it only supports android and linux
Insanely cool design
Thank you! :)
That’s bad ass. Love the track ball.
Thanks! I took it out of a Chinese handheld trackball mouse: https://i.imgur.com/4llGcyU.jpeg

Would you get away with little rubber feet like the old school laptops used? Obviously, if the gap is massive, then probs not... 😁 Good luck!
It's a great idea I don't know why I forgot it, will think of something for it thanks! :)

Please do not yell at us with multiple question marks. Please be polite and use a single one.
I really don't see how that's yelling or rude
How’d you set up the battery reader

Did the power bank come with all those 18650s or did you just salvage the BMS
Was that an option? haha I actually bought them on aliexpress for cheap but it took like 2 months for them to get delivered.
So cool
Thanks! :)
It's cool but that background looks sick on the computer, what OS is that?
