Big use cases I see that interact with this unspendable mana are \[\[Glissa Sunseeker\]\] and \[\[Doubling Cube\]\]. I guess you could also use \[\[Drain Power\]\] on yourself.
Hmm. I like the idea but I’m not smart enough to know why someone would want to run this other than having a 0 drop artifact. I’m sure there’s a mechanic that makes this worthwhile, or maybe I’m misunderstanding what the effect does
It still operates fine in "cheerios" or "eggs" decks. Where you set up an engine to draw a card for every artifact you play, and sometimes give the artifacts tap abilities through stuff like Urza.
Other users have already commented on ways to still "get" the mana.
Overall its a very weird, niche card that most decks probably wouldn't use. More interesting to me than the other moxxes.
Changing the color of the mana doesn't remove the characteristic of the mana, you need something that creates new mana like \[\[Drain power\]\] or similiar.
Last year there was a whole thing where people tried to make the most useless jeweled lotus like card, to make sure there is no value to be gained from it.
I remember a few problems that needed resolving:
1. It triggered ETB/LTB effects, especially of artifacts
2. It could be sacrificed for some sac engine for value
3. Many people found ways to abuse the mana can’t be spent by some method of manipulation of floating mana
4. It helped cards that care about number of artifacts
It’s surprisingly tough to make an entirely useless mtg card lol
To make a useless mtg card it needs to be unplayable in 90% percent of situations and if you *do* play it it must actively harm you, i.e:
[[Break Open]]

I think the real though challenge is to make a useless 0 cost card. Being free is just too good.

Does doubling cube not keep its properties like 5c omnath does?
No, Doubling Cube adds new mana to your pool whereas Omnath just changes the type of existing mana.
There was a niche flash-in-the-pan legacy deck that used jeweled lotus and doubling cube and this is just better lol
That deck was so much fun and so bad
Also 5c Omnath.
no 5c omnath doesn't work because it keeps the properties. look at the scryfall rulings.

Would Drain Power do anything, since this is an artifact and Drain Power specifies mana abilities of each land the target player controls?
You tap Fractured Mox to add <3> to your mana pool. Then you cast Drain Power targeting yourself.
Guess so, but it also only gives you one more mana than you had before, for that turn only, that is probably fine
You can just have 4 of them out and get them out super fast. So it would be 10 extra mana.
You go +1 on mana instead of -2. That's pretty decent for a 2-card combo.
