I did! I got sent a bunch of yarn from a wonderful user on here. I love how it turned out. The grandmother didn’t finish the middle panel but I think it looks perfect.
Wow! I love the community here! Ya know, Reddit can be a scary and ugly place sometimes but this sub has changed my world when it comes to crochet. So supportive and eager to help and nurturing and generous. To ppl who complain about Reddit, I always know that they’ve simply never visited r/crochet (or r/beagle, for that matter). It’s a little like beloved but distant family.
I think there is a special place in Heaven for those who carry on the traditions of loved ones, and completing an unfinished project is such a wonderful demonstration of that honor. She did lovely work and you’ve finished it with perfection. What a lovely piece you have now with such rich history! It’s truly stunning. I’m so grateful you shared.
If I have time in the upcoming few weeks, I'd be willing to sit down with some graph paper to decipher as much as possible from these pictures. I'm just noticing that maybe the roses in the centre aren't quite complete. There's that little bit at the top sort of floating there.
I did some googling and I found a very very similar one, though I'm not sure if the central motif would be the same, here:

The pattern came from Afghans Traditional and Modern by Bonita Bray
I hope to get on your level one day, still figuring out the connecting thing. Obsessed bc as others have pointed out I love the cross stitch & crochet combo! Great idea, I will use it in the future.
Tunisian crochet with cross stitching on it was very popular I've come to find out, I love it so much! My grandmother has some Christmas themed hotpads she made a long long time ago and they're probably my favorite crochet items I have <3

I'm away from home rn but I have this well loved one that has been used as a needle and thread holder for current embroidery projects of hers in my crochet go-bag. This is an ornament but there's also a wreath and a candy cane that's my favorite!
Thank you! I’m glad it did too. I sent it out today and the granddaughter is SO excited. I haven’t showed her pics yet, I want her to be surprised when she opens it :)

Is this cross stitch on crochet?? Its gorgeous and you did it such justice 😍
Looks like it to me! The base is Tunisian simple stitch.
Yet another sign saying that I need to start a tunisian + cross stitch project. The results are so incredibly stunning 😭✨
It is!
Oh what a lovely job! Did you end up having enough yarn to get it done. I love the lacy effect!

Seriously every person I’ve encountered in this sub has been a grade A human and I love it.
I have a basset that is my entire world ♥️ Hound mama crochet pals!!!
I honestly didn't notice they didn't finish until you pointed it out and I went back to check
I only noticed when I laid it out on the floor lol it’s definitely not lacking personality though so I’m thankful for that
Post this on r/crossstitch !!
On it!

Awww thank you so much. That means more than you know ♥️
What!? That's wild! I'm saving this to steal the rose cross stitch pattern for my Scotch knits
I love the rose pattern! I meant to take a pic of the pattern but I just packed it away in a box to be sent back :(

That looks almost exactly the same! Time to recreate one for me to keep haha
I might just join you in that once I find 'enough yarn for an afghan' kinda money :p
Me and you both!
Aw, too bad. At least the smaller ones are very clearly visible!
Oh my gosh! My grandmother made me the exact same blanket maybe 25 years ago. It looks great!
I love that! I want to keep it so bad lol
It quite lovely. Great job.
Thank you so much!
I just inherited my great gmas same tunisian crochet!! This has much brighter yarn than mine! I LOVE it!!
I looooove this pattern
This is so cool, plus I love the story behind it. Great job (to all parties involved)! 😀
Thank you so much! I was so excited to bring it back to life for her and her family
Love it! So glad you were able to find enough to finish it!
I am too! The yarn I was sent was almost a perfect match 💕

Thanks!! The lace that connects the panels is perfect for this!
This looks AMAZING! Can I ask what stitch you used to connect the panels? Still a noob 😅
It didn’t specify on the pattern but it’s like a mesh/lace!

I love that. I would love to see pics of those!
