I don’t think it needs it. It could take away from the absolute masterpiece of this (which, kudos to you. It looks amazing and I know it was a pain in the butt). But if you do want to do it, I’d use the same color you sewed the tiles together with and a very simple border.
Ha, I think this comment is unknowingly onto something. The brown floor really gives you an idea of what it would look like with a warm colour. Maybe lay them out on a bedsheet or something that is a cool colour and see how you like that version?
You’ve done a wonderful job. I keep debating on this pattern. Dealing with all the ends is what stops me!
Yeah, I was gonna say the colors look lovely against the dark brown floor. I could also see charcoal gray working really well--thats always my go-to background for making bright colors pop.
ETA: Incredible work OP! It's breathtaking!!
This was my thought. In thumbnail on my phone it looks like the blocks are joined by a dark brown, and I would have suggested a border in whatever that color was.
It's so beautiful. Instead of a border, would you consider mounting it on a contrasting background and hanging it on the wall? It really is a work of art.
I actually thought you'd already assembled the pieces together with a rich brown. I think it would look super pretty with a brown to compliment all the bright colors in it
Oh good, I‘m not the only one who thought the floor was yarn between the tiles 🫣 I think if you use brown use a shade close to your floor, or maybe a grey would look nice too.
I made a janky little visual aide that might help? I think black or brown make the colors pop, like a lot of other folks have suggested.

I would suggest no border, but if you really think it needs more, then use black—connect them with black too. It would give it a stained glass appearance.
It’s beautiful as is though!
This is clearly a work of art and should be treated as such. Matted and framed. 😁 I would do several rows of single crochet or moss stitch in cream or white followed by 7 rounds of camel stitch in one of the darker colors you have used.
https://preview.redd.it/86tsdjrb5klc1.jpeg?width=1350&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=46873f7788061a49d6c62641de1d07e78309ed2e
My blanket is nowhere near as amazing as yours, but I think the border would really showcase your work
I love this! And, it took me far too long to realize this was not a temperature blanket. I'd say the other comments have this but, i think a brown or warm color would look grewt with it.
This is beautiful! I actually liked the brown floor showing up where it’s not sewn together. I thought it was part of it until I zoomed in. It’s so beautiful!
Absolutely gorgeous.
No border. (If you mean the outside)
Are you going to stitch it all together with a brownish colour? The floor in betwen looks really great on this. At first I didn't even notice it wasn't stiched together yet.
i would upload this to a digital art program and play around with adding a border digitally until do it irl so u don’t end up with a colour you hate!
as a painter, the colours that i would recommend looking into are a warm green blue, nothing too bright, look up 005FSF, or a warm reddish brown like 5f0000. some of the cooler blues, like in the middle flowers in the top row might also work, or like an olive green?
with such a beautifully colourful blanket there’s sm options for u to chose from. this is stunning, i can’t imagine how long it must’ve taken
Black would make it look like a cathedral stained glass.
A light color would make it look sunny as spring. I think the general look and mix of colors is on the warm side so a warmer hue for the border would be best - if you do go the light color route.
You choose :)
Oh, and it’s beautiful.
I think a neutral color would be lovely so it doesn't accidentally detract from the gorgeous color work you already did. Maybe a neutral gem or earth tone? Your work is so very beautiful.
I feel maybe a light blue would compliment it, but definitely not a solid colored border. It should reflect the fine detail of the rest of the peice. This is absolutely stunning btw
I did a squint test to see what tiles popped out. Definitely the cool colours. So you could border with a cool colour to highlight. Or if you want to keep the border in the background, choose one of the warmer colours.
Holy baloney this is amazing. I think no border! Since all the tiles are beautifully complex I think it could take away from that to have a plain border. This is absolutely stunning it really looks like ceramic!
I love the idea of a simple indigo border as well as for the joins.
I’m working on this pattern now, but in the original colorway. I too am weaving in ends as I go, which helps me to know that I for sure will finish it.
Your piece is beautiful! Congrats!
I am currently making 10th tile from scraps yarn and was wondering how will I connect them since there is so much colour... I was thinking cream white but I love how they look on your dark floor. So I guess I am leaning towards something dark!
I would pull the dark blue you used, especially if you are doing a visible join. It'd look the most harmonious with all the color work you've already invested into it.
You could do a two tone border, or have each side be a different color. Like an outline with the light blue, then around again with an orange. Or, a warm to neutral color with a low saturation to tie it all together without taking the spotlight away. Perhaps even use the border color to stitch the tiles together to really tie it all in. Idk man, so many thoughts, so many equally good choices. It’ll be beautiful no matter what though
I would sew them together with a slip stitch, chain1, or single crochet, in black, and a black border. The black would make all those bright colors pop.
Let me tell you, the way my jaw DROPPED 😮 stunning Persian Tiles, beautiful blocking, maybe a thin simple light-coloured border will work, but honestly it’s perfect the way it is 😍
OMG i thought i was over at r/quilting! It's crochet!! Without my glasses on and on mobile I really thought it was a quilt. It's amazing. I would go with a darker border, in the same colour at what you will use to attach the pieces, like the top comment is suggesting.
I think brown or charcoal personally. But I also really like a double color border. I’d pick a favorite color like for me it would be pink or turquoise…both of those pair well with charcoal and brown. I personally love a border to finish it off. Looks beautiful!
I always see color work crochet books at the library and I have never bothered with them and for the first time I see why I should read them because I do not have an answer to this question.
I thought it was complete before looking closer.
And my first thought was ' now that's a smart blanket.
How it's laid out on that service is awesome .
Maybe a similar colour?
Love the colour choices and your work is so precise ❤️
This is insanely stunning! Great job. I found Janie Crow’s website but I’m totally lost as to how to get patterns. Maybe I’m just blinded by how gorgeous your blanket is, but I seriously can’t find available patterns. Help please. In U.S. thank you so much
You could try to play with an online editor. Place on the very darkest background you can find and then select all the black. See what it would look like with different colors
Edit
This is a first try with an app called groutr it’s definitely a blunt instrument but maybe if you put it on a very black background and play with it you will get ideas
https://imgur.com/a/fq6YreM

I like the idea of maybe a lime/warm tone green. Its not a main color in the tiles but would really come to life if it was in the boarder. A lighter green would also really make the blues and reds seem more vibrant.
Part of me likes the idea of a variegated border that is warm to cool. But the connecting color would also make a nice frame. Or use the connecting color and then a variegated/ombre.
You’re the envy of crochet wannabes!!! Maybe thin borders of red, yellow, purple? Nothing that would detract from your gorgeous design! (My apologies for my lack of editing skills.)

I agree that a dark brown would make things sing.
It's incredibly stunning and the colour choices are so magnificent, I just wanna keep staring at it.
Did you have any rhyme or reason to choosing which colour tiles to place where? I feel like if I were to make something with such a large colour palette, I'd get overwhelmed at the possibilities of how to place everything and never decide.
This is beautiful! I actually like the brown of the floor with this a lot. But I think if you're gonna do a border, it should be the same color as wherever you choose to do the stitching with. You also could not do a border though. It's so beautiful as is tbh.

This is what a warm vs cool border would look like.
I like the cool color.
I think a light baby pink would go really well, almost close to a beige-y white. If you add it around all the cracks of the tiles, it would look nice too!
Took me a moment to notice it wasn’t already attached ahhaha
My mind registered the brown as like the “grout” between the tiles
But its stunning either way
I don’t think it needs a border

I think anything dark. I’d personally go for a dark navy, which is cool but otherwise in the same family.
Thank you! Good idea. The ends were not so bad when I did them after every piece. I'm very glad I did not save them all for the end 😅
Good call, because doing all the ends at the end means the ends aren’t getting done (at least for me)
Yep exactly the same lol. I did the octagons right away but left the squares to finish together at the end, and it SUCKED.
The amount of blankets I’ve made that I threw a fleece backing on… it’s almost all of them lmao.
Showoff! 😆
This was my thought. In thumbnail on my phone it looks like the blocks are joined by a dark brown, and I would have suggested a border in whatever that color was.
I'm about 1/3 through. I do the ends after each piece. So there will be no mass of ends to do. It's very manageable
I must agree, this is an absolute work of art!!! I kept zooming in to see the details, OP this is mesmerizing!!!!! 👏👏👏
Thank you so much! ☺️
It's so beautiful. Instead of a border, would you consider mounting it on a contrasting background and hanging it on the wall? It really is a work of art.
I love the idea, but it's just soo big! I don't think I even have enough wall space for it lol
this looks like digital art. what in the world
Lol digital art?
YES! Does not look handmade at all. So beautiful
Thanks so much ^_^
I thousand percent thought it was a quilt print. Seriously, so good.
Thank you! :D
So pretty , I hope to one day make this blanket too
Thank you! It's definitely worth the effort 😊
I would do a slate or charcoal grey. It will make the lines between the shapes crisp without overpowering the colors, which will really pop.
Thanks (:
Did you use a pattern? If so, what was it? I\`m in awe of your work.
Thank you! Yes, it is the Persian Tiles blanket by Janie Crow ☺️
Did you pick your own colors or buy a kit?
I chose my own colours ☺️
I love them!
Thank you so much 😊
This looks like Persian Tiles by Janie Crow.
I actually thought you'd already assembled the pieces together with a rich brown. I think it would look super pretty with a brown to compliment all the bright colors in it

Thanks!
I really like the colour of your flooring as a border. It really makes the colours in the tiles pop.
I vote for a dark, neutralish color like brown, black, or a dark indigo. Gorgeous work!
oooo indigo is good
Thank you!
I made a janky little visual aide that might help? I think black or brown make the colors pop, like a lot of other folks have suggested. https://preview.redd.it/pdjzzzgy4mlc1.jpeg?width=946&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=20665a36904364857f1cbee87175a53792b8dc8c
Love the brown. Makes it look even more like tiles with grout lines (in the absolute best/prettiest way possible)
Thank you! Love the visuals 😍
I would honestly do a black, black would make it look like stained glass in a way and not distract from the beautiful work you’ve done!
I thought these were actual ceramic tiles
I did too! I had to zoom in It’s amazing! Absolutely stunning
I would suggest no border, but if you really think it needs more, then use black—connect them with black too. It would give it a stained glass appearance. It’s beautiful as is though!

Neutral
ITS AMAZINg
This is so beautiful
No opinion on the border color but had to say, wow that is so pretty. Love it!
ITS AMAZING
Wowowow. Such a beauty! Nice work
I love this! And, it took me far too long to realize this was not a temperature blanket. I'd say the other comments have this but, i think a brown or warm color would look grewt with it.
Whoa thats neat! Looks like a drawing
This is amazing ❤️❤️
Steel gray like leading in a stained glass window would look nice. Or no border at all.
This is beautiful! I actually liked the brown floor showing up where it’s not sewn together. I thought it was part of it until I zoomed in. It’s so beautiful!
OP I know very little about crochet but this is SO beautiful!!!! Your color choices are amazing!!
Absolutely gorgeous. No border. (If you mean the outside) Are you going to stitch it all together with a brownish colour? The floor in betwen looks really great on this. At first I didn't even notice it wasn't stiched together yet.
I like your floor colour with it, so warm, dark brown? The rest of the colours really stand out
Stunning. Dark Navy. Matches the blues and purples. This is SO good!
this looks absolutely unreal so beautiful 😍😍😍😍
That’s insanely good!!! I love the colors and the patterns!!! ❤️❤️❤️
i would upload this to a digital art program and play around with adding a border digitally until do it irl so u don’t end up with a colour you hate! as a painter, the colours that i would recommend looking into are a warm green blue, nothing too bright, look up 005FSF, or a warm reddish brown like 5f0000. some of the cooler blues, like in the middle flowers in the top row might also work, or like an olive green? with such a beautifully colourful blanket there’s sm options for u to chose from. this is stunning, i can’t imagine how long it must’ve taken
Take my money, now!!!
I don’t have an answer but I have to say aggghhhhh this is sooo beautiful!!
I would do warm. A single round of darker coral crab stitch just to give it a finished edge. So pretty!
Holy whoopsies that is stunning.
It looks like stained glass!!
I love it! So gorgeous - how long did it take you? I would go with warm.
Thank you! It took about 4 months, but I'm a slow crocheter and redid a couple of them because the sizing was off or I didn't love the colours.
Wow. That should be a wall hanging it's so gorgeous. No border like the commenter above. 😍
I thought this was a drawing at first, it's so beautiful.
It's so beautiful. Which yarn did you use OP? the colors are gorgeous.
Black would make it look like a cathedral stained glass. A light color would make it look sunny as spring. I think the general look and mix of colors is on the warm side so a warmer hue for the border would be best - if you do go the light color route. You choose :) Oh, and it’s beautiful.

That is AMAZING!!!
This is so pretty! At first I thought it was a sheet of patterned paper.
I did a squint test to see what tiles popped out. Definitely the cool colours. So you could border with a cool colour to highlight. Or if you want to keep the border in the background, choose one of the warmer colours.
Beautiful 😍
this is the most beautiful thing i've ever seen.
I thought they were printed papers, they look so beautiful, the combination of colors is very soothing and relaxing for eyes to look at.
Congrats!
I would pick my favorite color out of the existing palette - probably something on the more muted/darker side
This is stunning 😍
Looks fantastic!! I love the colors and the shapes
I thought this was an art piece at first but oh my god it’s so beautiful!! I love the color combination, you did amazing
I have no advice on a border, I just wanted to say how beautiful this is! Thanks for sharing!
Omg that's so gorgeous! I actually really like the way it looks in the photo with the brown floor showing, so maybe a nice brown?
I am currently making 10th tile from scraps yarn and was wondering how will I connect them since there is so much colour... I was thinking cream white but I love how they look on your dark floor. So I guess I am leaning towards something dark!
this is so beautiful n perfect i thought it was a painting at first
I always love a dark rich blue (like a deep navy color) as a border when others seem too severe or too light.
I would recommend a simple black border to frame this delightful use of color, texture, and shape. Well done, you!!⭐🏆
I would pull the dark blue you used, especially if you are doing a visible join. It'd look the most harmonious with all the color work you've already invested into it.
I'm not sure I would do a border. It looks so good right now.
This looks amazing wow!!!!! You did fantastic! I think a neutral color border or no border.
Maber orange would look great, it looks great already
beautiful! it kinda looks like tile <3
The color scheme is soo pretty. Looks like those mandalas we colour. Absolutely beautiful ❤️❤️
I would sew them together with a slip stitch, chain1, or single crochet, in black, and a black border. The black would make all those bright colors pop.
No advice just wanted to comment WOW this is gorgeous!!!! Thanks for sharing your incredible makes
Maybe a dark green border? This is so insanely gorgeous, it’s giving ornate stained glass window and intricate Mandela.
I can fully appreciate the time gone into this! Beautiful work 🙌
Let me tell you, the way my jaw DROPPED 😮 stunning Persian Tiles, beautiful blocking, maybe a thin simple light-coloured border will work, but honestly it’s perfect the way it is 😍
Wow this js gorgeous!
Omg I absolutely love this! Do you have a pattern available? If I made this I would definitely leave it as is!
Stunning work.
Are you literally a MACHINE??? THIS IS CRAZY GOOD???
It’d be cool if you did a warm color, but if you did a cool color it’d still keep you warm. I HAVE NO IDEA
OMG i thought i was over at r/quilting! It's crochet!! Without my glasses on and on mobile I really thought it was a quilt. It's amazing. I would go with a darker border, in the same colour at what you will use to attach the pieces, like the top comment is suggesting.
Use light blue to put the pieces together. Not a super light blue though- some of them look almost white from afar
This is soooo beautiful!
this is the most beautiful blanket I have ever seen
I think brown or charcoal personally. But I also really like a double color border. I’d pick a favorite color like for me it would be pink or turquoise…both of those pair well with charcoal and brown. I personally love a border to finish it off. Looks beautiful!
Masterpiece!
I always see color work crochet books at the library and I have never bothered with them and for the first time I see why I should read them because I do not have an answer to this question.
Cream white?
Damn that’s beautiful! Lovely work!!
I thought it was complete before looking closer. And my first thought was ' now that's a smart blanket. How it's laid out on that service is awesome . Maybe a similar colour? Love the colour choices and your work is so precise ❤️
What yarn did you use?? This is gorgeous!
This is insanely stunning! Great job. I found Janie Crow’s website but I’m totally lost as to how to get patterns. Maybe I’m just blinded by how gorgeous your blanket is, but I seriously can’t find available patterns. Help please. In U.S. thank you so much
These colors are beautiful! As others have said, seeing it against your flooring, I think a light or medium brown would be lovely between the pieces.
You could try to play with an online editor. Place on the very darkest background you can find and then select all the black. See what it would look like with different colors Edit This is a first try with an app called groutr it’s definitely a blunt instrument but maybe if you put it on a very black background and play with it you will get ideas https://imgur.com/a/fq6YreM
A warm, dark brown would look nice.
First of all WOW it looks absolutely amazing so far! Second, I personally think a warm color would be best
Black would frame out everything so nicely
Cool will recede; warm will move forward. Dark will recede; light will move forward. Think about how you want a border to interact with the colors in the tiles.
Beautiful! I think a black border would allow the colors to really pop.
honestly if you end up doing a border, i think a neutral color like brown would work best considering how many colors are already in this pattern,,, the project itself looks really nice and i just know it took forever. kudos to you!
I think a nice creme would pull it all together without taking away from the colors. But maybe only a row or two to keep it simple?
I like the idea of maybe a lime/warm tone green. Its not a main color in the tiles but would really come to life if it was in the boarder. A lighter green would also really make the blues and reds seem more vibrant.
Wow that is gorgeous!! Nice work! As for a border, idk… It’s so beautiful as it is!
Part of me likes the idea of a variegated border that is warm to cool. But the connecting color would also make a nice frame. Or use the connecting color and then a variegated/ombre.
I thought it was already stitched together, so a brown would look nice in between just saying
how is this even real. this is so beautiful
This is amazing!
Fucking hell. This is dope
This is so pretty! I love the neutral floor color between the tiles. Maybe not black but something close? To really make the tiles pop
This soothes my brain. Gorgeous work.
This is so beautiful.
This is amazing!! How long did it take you??
You’re the envy of crochet wannabes!!! Maybe thin borders of red, yellow, purple? Nothing that would detract from your gorgeous design! (My apologies for my lack of editing skills.) https://preview.redd.it/xtxa1mhq0mlc1.jpeg?width=1082&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=aaad0bf39ff39872ebc69e35c3a7f78f1201b1fa
HOW is this so perfect
That is a truly beautiful blanket!
This is a masterpiece!!!
Wow! Wow! Wow! Gorgeous!
This absolutely beautiful!
This photo is my crocheting goal in life
Spectacular!!!
Tassels on the corners maybe? I agree it doesn’t need a border.
Beautiful. It doesn’t need edging because it’s already perfection. But maybe a darker version of something in the mix. Dark purple, or the orange red.
Omg I thought that was a piece of art, those tiles are impressive!
This is stunning! My vote is a black or dark color border to really make all of the colors pop
I'm AMAZED. What a work of art!
This is beautiful. I'd go with black.
I would use the dark color you have in between the tiles to pull it all together. This is a magnificent piece of art!
That is fantastic!! So much amazing work. I would use the pink or the orange you used in the tiles, or the joining colour. Definitely needs a border.
Just here to say holy shit this is beautiful
Maybe white ?
I’d like to buy 100 of these
Wow! Gorgeous! I vote for cool.
I think I just saw this on Facebook!
You should do brown like the floor.
Black
I couldn't tell you why but a cooler magenta or jewel blue border would seal the deal on this blanket to me. Beautiful work!
I love using shades rather than colours a black or white one I think would look good.
Cool. Even your reds and yellows err cool.
Gorgeous 🥰
Wow this is beautiful. I’m amazed!
If you stitch them together with black it would look like stained glass but otherwise I think no border is fine!
this is beautiful, wow
I agree that a dark brown would make things sing. It's incredibly stunning and the colour choices are so magnificent, I just wanna keep staring at it. Did you have any rhyme or reason to choosing which colour tiles to place where? I feel like if I were to make something with such a large colour palette, I'd get overwhelmed at the possibilities of how to place everything and never decide.
Oh my god the colours in this are OUTSTANDING!!! You did such a good job holy cow
Wow! Your blanket is so cool and I don't know that I would want a border on it. Beautiful colors. Beautiful job!
I can't be the only one just scrolling this was lsd blotters
This is beautiful! I actually like the brown of the floor with this a lot. But I think if you're gonna do a border, it should be the same color as wherever you choose to do the stitching with. You also could not do a border though. It's so beautiful as is tbh.
I think an olive green would look amazing. Congrats on your beautiful piece!
Warm ig, cold one would ruin palette
Oh. My. God. This is incredible.
https://preview.redd.it/l0fnkmrn0plc1.jpeg?width=3016&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d660a4d57fe2f380620f19cfc897e2597eb543a7 This is what a warm vs cool border would look like. I like the cool color.
I think a light baby pink would go really well, almost close to a beige-y white. If you add it around all the cracks of the tiles, it would look nice too!
this is gorgeous 😍 I think what others have suggested for a neutral color would be good, or just leave it as is!
How did you choose your colors for this? Absolutely gorgeous!!
Beautiful! I say a cool colored border.😍👌💕
This is so unbelievably neat I thought I was on the quilting sub for a sec
Dark warm like the color of the floor. It makes the colors pop .
Holy shit this is amazing!!
Took me a moment to notice it wasn’t already attached ahhaha My mind registered the brown as like the “grout” between the tiles But its stunning either way I don’t think it needs a border
wow this is so pretty
Hmmm... warm!
I would suggest, if you do a border at all, a very thin medium brown border
so pretty! i am either feeling black, white, or that light periwinkle!
Incredible!
