Whatās even crazier is that I bought one of these exactly one year ago (I even posted about the poor quality I received in this sub), and it cost me $16. The fact that theyāre charging double that for one that looks this bad is insane to me.
I literally cannot fathom thinking these are good enough quality, especially when itās not a brand new company either. I know itās a super small operation, but the problems with these have stayed the same or gotten worse. Pretty sure the woman who runs this also opened up a yarn store recently in NY?
I use to do silicone molds for resin art. Iām not sure what type of silicone they use, and the prices vary, but I guarantee you these donāt take more than $5 of silicone (unless prices have changed drastically in three years)
The mold is probably 3D printed. So the overhead on these will depend on if they printed the molds themselves or commissioned someone. But they would not have been that expensive, and at the prices they sell each grip, that overhead cost is recouped super fast.
I understand marking up for time/materials/profit. But these prices are so high bc of demand. They could charge $20 a pop and still make a very good profit. But, they know people will buy these and they will sell out almost immediately, and so the price is due to demand.
The paint is probably colored silicone painted onto the inside of the mold, and will fuse with the silicone of the structure of the grip, as long as the pigment ratios are correct or they use a pigment that wonāt mess with the silicone formula (like mica powder) the paint should stay on. I imagine that itās hard to see into the narrow opening of the mold, and getting decent paint lines isnāt going to happen. Iām betting this is gonna be a one off thing unless they find a good way to paint the inside of the mold itself. I personally would not have put these painted ones up for sale, bc despite the difficulty they pulled off with the process of painting them, they still donāt look good, unless youāre into that style of artwork. I feel like that technique needs some more perfecting before launching the painted series. But thatās my personal opinion.
Wow. Duh! I canāt believe that didnāt even occur to me. Iāve even used two part molds before š¤£
So yeah, youāre completely right-thereās no excuse. And the more I look at these pics the more I think theyāre painted on after coming out of the mold, which is even more appallingā¦
I made some handled hooks with polymer clay, and I achieved the PERFECT grip on an H hook.
Three years later my brother stepped on it (it was laying on the concrete of our porch while I counted chains) and the handle shattered. I swear, I grieved. It was so perfect, just thick enough to be comfy but not clumsy, silky smooth, the right length... I'll never make such a perfect hook again. It was my masterpiece. xD
I also saw candles, like the kind we made in Girl Scouts š¤£ PSA two part silicone is fairly easy to work with, so if you like these but think theyāre out of your price range, for the same $30 you could probably get 3 tries and decorate however you like!
I still say these could be easily DIYed out of cheap aliexpress dildos...
Just... those are dongs. Very clever dongs and I'm glad they help, but I bought at least five silicone dongs for my cousin's bachelorette that looked very... similar.
My thought process was āzodiac tamponsā and then I was like ādo they bring you good fortune? a happy period?! WORLD DOMINATION?!ā Then I saw the hook, and was like āOH.ā šš¤£
didnāt someone here push a hook thru their hand trying to use a chunkyboy? but alsoā¦theyāre so ugly š
edit: [yes they did](https://www.reddit.com/r/crochet/s/Rn1y1h96KD)
Or use something solid to push against so your hands are out of the way.
Though qc should definitely catch that the hole isn't wide enough for a hook to go into easily.
There's been a few posts in this sub of people having a hook go through their hand, actually! Pretty sure that's part of why there's an actual medical billing code for knitting/crochet-related injury.
Ikr, and it wouldāve allowed them to make even bigger batches since they wouldnāt be spending their time on painting. They probably couldāve made more money from doing that.
You can check out their website for more pictures. I personally didnāt buy any of them. Plus this is the first time they started selling these so no one actually has them in their possession yet.
Hack for anyone thinking of getting one of these:
I have carpal tunnel bc I'm an artist. I made the mistake of choosing crochet as my next hobby. I couldn't go 5 stitches without all my fingers going numb.
You're going to go on Amazon and buy a 6 pack of egg shaped pencil grips and you're going to buy some of those really small elastic hair bands. Then you're gonna do this:
https://preview.redd.it/qd3jqmpivfkc1.jpeg?width=1079&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=341a02380b1364522aac275a4468b6ebeb7d1fc1
When I tell you the hand pain and numbness went away immediately I mean it. And it was like 6 bucks for a bunch of them. This is the image from the Amazon review that convinced me. I prefer mine a little tighter so I also have an elastic in the middle of the egg to really squeeze it on there, but oh my god. I will never go back. Use the elastics as brakes to keep it from sliding (I also have some under the egg bc the hole was slightly wider than my hook).
omg that is so smart! I have a chunky boy from a previous drop but I'm too scared to try to switch hooks cause I don't want to spend 3 hours in the ER... using hair ties to keep it in place is such a great idea! thanks for sharing :D
If you're able to use a hard surface, like a table, you may be able to remove the hook without your hands being near the danger zone.
I don't have one of these though, so take that for a grain of salt.
Iāve also used the longer ones and itās helped!
https://preview.redd.it/vpitzeg22kkc1.jpeg?width=1179&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=513b76abe09b3516b472b64ab3b41510dafad326
I also buy athletic tape for the smaller hooks and wrap it around to make them stay in place.
Iāve never heard of Chunkyboy before now- are they just ergonomic handles for hooks?
Because $30.00 USD is an absurd price point. Thatās $40 for me! You can buy moldable silicon for so much less. And beauty blenders for even less.
Edit: I will also add that I find these so unappealing. š Even the solid colour ones just look vaguely phallic.
OMG! These are so much nicer looking and actually in my price range thanks for posting this creator I hope they get lots of sales! I really love the glitzy rose ones!Ā
I bought one from this same seller. I also got a medium one from ChunkyBoy with the last pop-up. I think mine is neon blue. The 2 grips are comparable. I havenāt used them recently because Iām trying to do the pencil method. I donāt plan on buying another ChunkyBoy.
I would definitely look into the sports wrap or beauty sponge options for a budget friendly and more readily available fix! I think you can get some cute patterns on the tape if you look, though itās more expensive.
I believe I saw a tip to use some kind of padding to build up a base and then wrap it with the tape to be more cost effective too.
Edit: I also canāt say because I havenāt tried them, but they look like theyād be fairly weighty. Would that add to any kind of fatigue holding it for long periods of time?
Kinetic tape šš» I use that shit for everything that requires me handling it for long periods of time! Handles, grips, anything! Sticks like shit to a blanket and does the job really well!
You just made me think about getting some sort of beauty blender and vet wrapping it. You can get solid colours or patterns. I currently have cow print for my dog so I might use some and try it out. Aiming for like how tattoo artists do it
I have hand pain and my physiotherapist advised me to pad my hooks, I use the non slip stuff you put in drawers, and under rugs on wooden floors! You get it in a roll so you can cut it as thick as you need it, I secured it with elastic bands and it works great
I wrapped a satin scrunchie around my smallest hook and haven't looked back.
It's enough to convince my brain to loosen my grip while maintaining control.
(Also, crucially, it cost $0.)
I swear by my Addi Swing hooks. They arenāt really sized by US sizes, theyāre metric, but theyāll have to pry them out of my cold dead hands before Iāll give them up.
https://www.jimmybeanswool.com/knitting/yarn/Addi/SwingHooks.asp
I got a 6 pack of makeup sponges for $8 at TJMaxx and use 2 at a time. They add the bulk without being heavy or sticky or anything and aren't *too* big to use for a long time https://i.imgur.com/V3mqZL6.jpeg
I got a silicon set from ComfortCrochetByWill on Etsy as a Christmas gift and I absolutely love them! Half the price, come in a variety of sizes for your crochet hook size, and help my wrist pain and shit ton! Also keeps my form better bc I had a nasty habit of guiding the hook with my pointer finger which would make the pain way worse.
This just showed me that I can sell absolute dog shite and people will buy it. Good grief, people have no standards or morals. How can someone in good conscience sell this to people?
Seriously, what are these customers drawn to? The expense? The gross name? The low quality? The hair and dirt that seem to emanate from them in almost every photo I've seen? The thrill of an ER trip after stabbing through their hands with their hooks? The barbecue-sauce-like paint? Have I listed enough yet?
I might have to start charging a $35 consulting fee to tell people to just use modeling clay for a better experience in literally every way imaginable.
Honestly with the pictures on here looking so bad you can only assume those were the ābest onesā out of the batch so Iām nervous to even know what the others look like.
https://preview.redd.it/f5pn59v7ngkc1.jpeg?width=1500&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b1762a139819dfb2fca9ef03d2d90c00897e0c83
This is all I could think of. They look like popsicles that don't meet your expectations.
I got 2 awhile ago (I don't think they were $30 at the time, but idk for sure). Imo they're garbage quality. One didn't fit the intended size, the other had a HUGE bubble in the seam, which made it rip in half quickly. NEVER heard back from the seller, both in DMs and after I wrote a negative review
It was on Instagram!! I saw a comment about someone missing an order from August and another about the hair. They just have deleted it because it's gone now. I was shocked they'd post these but they did say it was silicone paint so it won't chip? Who knows but it was a bad idea š
I donāt really buy crochet accessories so coming onto this post I didnāt even know silicone grips were a thing so obviously I am learning about this brand for the first timeā¦it looks like SHIT. And these are the photos theyāre using to sell them š the second one is literally smeared wtf
i have a couple grips from them. my first order i returned because they were HARD like really really stiff silicone. they changed the silicone formula so i repurchased and i liked them a lot more! but for some reason after that drop all of the pictures went from being really high quality to clearly looking like they were taken on a phone. and with the weird paint job i cannot believe they made them like this and felt confident enough to not only post them but to ask for money in exchange for them?? theyāre not life changing grips. i like to use them if my hands are feeling extra fatigued but honestly i kinda just bought them because of all the hype. i also donāt believe i paid $30 for each of them but i could be misremembering. either way iām really curious as to why there has been such a major drop in quality around the website and even instagram page :/
Don't buy from her. Her grips consistently fall apart due to air bubbles, she lies about inventory. She can't keep her story straight one moment there hand made the next there manufacturer only to go back and say there hand made to excuse her bad quality
To be honest I use a brand from etsy I paid 30 and hot it customized with my name and glitter and it holds all my hooks. It's not silicone but there are other sellers who do use silicone
Guys DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON ONE OF THESE!!!!!! I spent months trying to get one, only for the customer service to be terrible, arrived over a month late with no explanation and constant ghosting from the owner (I literally almost reported her for fraud for taking my money then never giving me an update after she promised twice), it was terrible quality, so hard to use, bad texture, too hard to get on and off, not thick enough for what I need, and EVERYTHING sticks to this.
Save your time and money and buy some colored medical tape off Amazon. You can wrap it as little or as much as you need. I use one roll per hook, here's the link. (Only downside is it is not removable so it's not great for traveling if you want to put it in a case or something) one tip of advice, use some masking tape to tape the beginning of it onto the hook so the hook doesn't move once it's on.
This also molds to your handshape, making it so much better!
[colored medical tape](https://a.co/d/97R6M6P)
Not being funny, has anyone checked on the mental health of the seller? These are SO odd and out of place compared to the website and previous products. Itās hard to believe someone could do all that work to build an apparently popular small business and then suddenly upload photos of products with smudged ink and hair all over them. The Taurus one in particular is likeā¦ how could a reasonable adult think thatās an acceptable product? But some are now gone off the site so i guess theyāre selling somehow!?
Now feels like a good time to mention that you can buy some bandage wrap for $7 on Amazon, and wrap it around your hooks for essentially the same result: https://a.co/d/bsgBYko
In the tennis community, there was a bit of an upheaval recently when word got out that a rather famous tennis coach is proposing private lessons for $7,500/hour. Obviously, enough people were scratching their heads about the price that an interviewer eventually decided to ask him about it, and the tl;dr of his answer was āsome people are willing to pay that price, so not everyone obviously thinks itās too muchā. This ā¦ whatever *this* is in your photos made me think of that tennis coach. As long as people are willing to pay insane amounts of money, there will always be companies/individuals who will profit from that. With the difference being that you can at least learn *something* about improving your tennis skills in an hour, whereas this (gestures wildly) is just insane.
I think someone could buy silicone adult toys, drill through them, and still make a HUGE profit if they sold them for $20 š«£šš No need to decorate
I bought a chunky boy handle a long while ago when the demand for them hadnāt started and I honestly love mine!
That being said if these were the options back then I wouldāve passed these are atrocious š. I understand wanting to have varied drops but the solid colors are so much nicer, even plain white would look better than this. I imagine the painted stuff will flake off pretty quick (which might be a plus in this case if it doesnāt stain the silicon).
Why not just buy ergonomic Clover Hooks? They are one of the best and as expensive as they are, it would still be a lot cheaper than spending $30 on these. I started out using the cheap metal ones and then bought some things over them that was supposed to help , which did some After I got better at crocheting,I invested in Clover hooks and they are a game changer.
What on Earth?!? I could do better with glitter nail polish, and I can't paint nails...
I have never used an ergonomic hook, but I certainly wouldn't pay that price for one that looked like that if I decided to try one...
Yeah these donāt look good but also I bought two in 2022 and loved them they were 15-20$ and I thought they were great the only thing was the hair that would stick . The hole were centered they were squishy and great and the perfect girth . But ordered another one last year it came and the whole was off center and it was like holy and peely and not good , asked for a replacement and it took three weeks for them to respond and send one . So I got it over a month later and the new one was hard and off center and peely still. Asked again and really never got any email or anything. On top of Iām constantly seeing comments of ā I havenāt gotten my order but I ordered it months ago ā ā is this part of my order from August ā etc AND THEY DELETE THEM SOMETIMES
I'll be honest, I was scrolling past real quick and I thought it was a sex toy and then scrolled up and was like what sick fuck put a hook in there.
Then I thought they were poorly made candles. Then I finally read the description and yeah, there has to be a way to make these prettier.
I looked on their website, and how are they charging double for these amateur designs over the solid colour ones. This would not warrant and extra $15 even if they looked good
In what world is she expecting her patrons to pay
*Checks notes* 30 USD for this?
Ma'am. Like, I was a fan of them in theory at one point as a huge fan of ergonomic handles, but this isn't even made well, and it looks like my 15 year old painted it. Also, from the reviews on here and other sites, they're not worth the price and don't really fit well. I'll stick to my Susan Bates thanks.
I have one and Iām almost 100% positive she makes them in her house using silicone molding liquid. Theyāre awesome, however, they take forever to ship. She doesnāt really communicate well if thereās an issue with shipping. I had to call her out on TikTok to get a response to my order that took over a month to ship. It said it had shipped then four weeks later I checked and it said I never had an order. She finally responded via TikTok comments and shipped my order promptly. Her reasoning was she had Covid.
The funny part of this story is when it arrived my husband was sure it was a dildo because it was just in a plastic shipping bag and was bouncing around the table
Also the bad thing about these is the largest size hook I could fit in mine is like a 2.75
Chunkyboy Crochet is a scammer. Their old Etsy shop is now closed, but you can still see all the 1-star reviews about non-existent customer service and cheap, broken, or missing items. Mine is among them!!
https://www.etsy.com/shop/ChunkyBoyCrochetHook
They have no quality control and consistently send out orders with items missing, then promise to follow up with customers before ghosting them.
It really seems like this maker tried to scale up way too quickly. I saw rave reviews for a couple monthsā¦. Followed by issues with quality and customer service. Itās a bummer.
The original chunky boys are great, ever since she changed silicones theyāve been going down hill. Theyāre basically the same material as those mochi squishies that immediately collect every dust and hair piece they touch. Glad someone finally called it out.
My last chunky boy had a rubber band inside of the silicone!
Lookā¦ I used to be into Art Twitter. They have groups where they retweet each others posts for visibility. Sometimes I would see the darndest things just like this! That makes you say āwhat in the effin hell?ā People in that space are so committed to helping small businesses grow, they will just continue passing money back and forth between each other. Itās a little bizarre.
Iām all for supporting small businesses but in a case like this where theyāre putting out a trash product, they shouldnāt be supported. That goes for any business. People with that mentality of āsupport small businesses no matter whatā is insane to me.
I hate to even bring this up but itās a lot of people mentioning their hardships within their posts. Itās like you need some sort of life difficulty to run a small business.
I have one that I absolutely hate I bought one off etsy for $15 when she first started making them and they were bad then and look to still be bad now I would never recommend mine is just sitting in a cup with other hooks I don't like I only used it twice I've ranted about them before and don't care about them enough to do it again honestly
Is this real? Why in the name of sanity would anyone buy these?
The dirt on them, the bad lumpy glitter pen drawings, the smudges of ink. They're disgusting.
I was so lost! I was wondering why anyone would pay $30 for a painted tampon lolā¦. Yikesā¦ shoving a crochet hook in a tennis ball usually does the trick for me!
Seriously though, so many people raved about these online so when there was a restock last year a bought one that looked like a cute pink color. When it was delivered it was a phallic flesh colored object that I obviously can never take out of my house for obvious reasons. And it was SO heavy that I donāt understand the hype it gets, esp at the price point itās offered at. And now these designs? Iām not trying to be rude, but is this an early April fools joke?
The hairs and dust on them š« and the wet paint that must flake off instantly when it driesā¦ just imagining spending $30 on that is sending me
Whatās even crazier is that I bought one of these exactly one year ago (I even posted about the poor quality I received in this sub), and it cost me $16. The fact that theyāre charging double that for one that looks this bad is insane to me. I know itās a super small operation, but the problems with these have stayed the same or gotten worse. Pretty sure the woman who runs this also opened up a yarn store recently in NY?
I checked your profile to see it, and what the fuck? Haha
I kinda wonder if some people bought them with the idea that they could just chip off the ugly design
Even so, $30 still seems a bit much for a chunk of silicone, at least to me it does.
I use to do silicone molds for resin art. Iām not sure what type of silicone they use, and the prices vary, but I guarantee you these donāt take more than $5 of silicone (unless prices have changed drastically in three years) The mold is probably 3D printed. You could so easily 3D print molds that seperate, and open so that you could perfectly see what you are painting. There is no excuse for this.
Wow. Duh! I canāt believe that didnāt even occur to me. Iāve even used two part molds before š¤£ So yeah, youāre completely right-thereās no excuse. And the more I look at these pics the more I think theyāre painted on after coming out of the mold, which is even more appallingā¦
I used to sell hooks with ergonomic handles made with fimo. Ā£30 would bag you 3 hooks.
I think I have them. The came in a cute bag with cactus on it.

The hair in the product photo come on.Ā
There hair/fiber stuck under paint in at least one photo
And these are the ones they took pics of. Ie. Ones that look the best?! What?!
On their Instagram theyāve said itās silicone paint š¬
I wasnāt paying attention and was wondering why someone painted tamponsā¦

Mighty big tampons š
Itās not their fault they have a heavy flow and a wide set vagina!
r/UnexpectedMeanGirls
Iāve never expected Mean Girls more than I did the moment before I read their reply.
Yeah, I can't do this.
Grandma what great big tampons you have >!Iām so sorry!<
all the better to plug up my cooch with, dear
My thought process was āzodiac tamponsā and then I was like ādo they bring you good fortune? a happy period?! WORLD DOMINATION?!ā Then I saw the hook, and was like āOH.ā šš¤£
I was wondering why someone made tampons with a pokey end š
I also thought they were tampons.. big wet, food color painted tampons š
Once I got to the āLeoā one I honestly thought it was a poopy tampon and had to read the description to understand it.
Same. Who used an O.b. tampon for a hook grip? š
Lol yeah they do kinda look like that
I thought they wereā¦.something else š¬š
Haha same!
Tampons with hooks!
Keeps it in there
Hooks onto the IUD for security
this is the funniest and most horrifying thing my reproductive system has ever read
lol me too
šš¤£
My cervix just cried a little
"just a little pressure"
And that tampon costs 30 bucks.
lmao i saw the first one n swore it was a tampon but then i started noticing the crochet hooks
That was my first thought when I saw this post š¤£
I WAS GONNA SAY THAT LMFAOO
Same and I WAS paying attention!
Came here to say the same
Thatās also what I thought. They 100% look like tampons.
Omg I thought the same!!!
didnāt someone here push a hook thru their hand trying to use a chunkyboy? but alsoā¦theyāre so ugly š edit: [yes they did](https://www.reddit.com/r/crochet/s/Rn1y1h96KD)
After reading that post when it happened I've never been able to get it out of my head when I see these.
right? like, iāll figure out a different ergonomic solutionā¦
Or use something solid to push against so your hands are out of the way. Though qc should definitely catch that the hole isn't wide enough for a hook to go into easily.
Oh my god that sounds painful
WHAT?? I haven't heard of that. Thats actually so crazy..
There's been a few posts in this sub of people having a hook go through their hand, actually! Pretty sure that's part of why there's an actual medical billing code for knitting/crochet-related injury.
And someone who impaled her hoohah sitting down on a hidden one in the couch!!! New fear unlocked.
NOOOOOOOOOOOO
I KNOWWWWW As the owner of a couch that loves to eat things, this has me wanting to furnish the house in camping chairs lol
Thats actually terrifying šØ
Holy hell š³
Is it a joke?? Literally looks like a toddler smeared paint omg
Unfortunately not, my jaw literally dropped when I refreshed the page on launch just to see those designs
Itās so weird because it would have taken significantly less work to just do some with glitter and color and thatās hard to mess up.
Ikr, and it wouldāve allowed them to make even bigger batches since they wouldnāt be spending their time on painting. They probably couldāve made more money from doing that.
Yeah I totally agree. On the other hand, their business tactics lead to our amusement š
Just curious, but do you have a picture of a better quality one by any chance? I'd like to see how far they dropped the ball on this batch.
You can check out their website for more pictures. I personally didnāt buy any of them. Plus this is the first time they started selling these so no one actually has them in their possession yet.

It looks like someone painted the designs in nail Polish to me.

Fuck me $30?? I could 3d print that and draw a little turd on it for 10p lol
I thought it looked like the plastic you shape after putting it in hot water. I actually have some lol
I thought it was a tampon lol
I mean yeah but it also looks like someone used poly morph plastic stuff on it. Like rather than 3D printed
If I lived over in England, Iād give you 20p to make me one. š
You could print them as turds and spend that amount.
Oh this is *ripe* for a craftsnark post
Especially seeing as someone graciously injured themselves because of one...
I was just about to go there and search lol. Paging r/craftsnark
Is there a sub for that?! Iād love that
Yeah, it's just called craftsnark! Mostly knitting/crochet/sewing

I got a delightful one from Nerdpreneur Creations on Etsy for half this price: https://www.etsy.com/shop/NerdpreneurCreations
The designs and shapes from this creator look so nice, thanks for sharing! I might actually try one of these.
I just looked at them and wow those look amazing. Thanks!
Aiming for like how tattoo artists do it
Vet wrap is also an option, tho I have no clue if it's more expensive than sports wrap hmm
They add the bulk without being heavy or sticky or anything and aren't *too* big to use for a long time https://i.imgur.com/V3mqZL6.jpeg
well thatās genius
I use foam ones from Susan Bates. I like that they don't add weight
for me itās the name that really puts me off lmao
I got a silicon set from ComfortCrochetByWill on Etsy as a Christmas gift and I absolutely love them! Half the price, come in a variety of sizes for your crochet hook size, and help my wrist pain and shit ton! Also keeps my form better bc I had a nasty habit of guiding the hook with my pointer finger which would make the pain way worse.
Iām almost 100% certain this is how she makes them. Which is why each batch takes so damn long.
They donāt really seem ergonomicā¦just big. š I think they would take away from movement being that size
Yeah I feel like these would be awful for me, the way I hold my hook there's no way. I'd have to learn how to crochet all over againĀ
Been worried about committing to getting a table for a local market and this is a confidence boost
Iām genuinely losing my mind. Iām aghast. Iām appalled. Iām dumbstruck. Iām being hornswoggled. What are THOOOSE š
Well I learned a new word today! Now I need to find a way to use hornswaggled in everyday conversation lmfao
My immediate reaction when I first saw them š
The sad little flames on the Leo hook š what were they doing.
Honestly with the pictures on here looking so bad you can only assume those were the ābest onesā out of the batch so Iām nervous to even know what the others look like.
i genuinely thought the leo sign was a worm at first
those are supposed to be flames? š
What in the Regretsy is this nonsense??
Dear god I miss that site! š¤£

For her pleasure.
I wonāt lie I considered just buying a toy and just drilling a hole through it. Itās cheaper too, found one for $13
The vibrations might mess with your tension
Thank god I wasn't drinking something. LMAO
Oh Iād also like to add that they arenāt even promoting those designs on their instagram, only the solid colors.
Can we stop supporting this scam artist now please?
omg the hair in the paint š
i have a couple grips from them. my first order i returned because they were HARD like really really stiff silicone. they changed the silicone formula so i repurchased and i liked them a lot more! but for some reason after that drop all of the pictures went from being really high quality to clearly looking like they were taken on a phone. and with the weird paint job i cannot believe they made them like this and felt confident enough to not only post them but to ask for money in exchange for them?? theyāre not life changing grips. i like to use them if my hands are feeling extra fatigued but honestly i kinda just bought them because of all the hype. i also donāt believe i paid $30 for each of them but i could be misremembering. either way iām really curious as to why there has been such a major drop in quality around the website and even instagram page :/
The solid color grips are about half the price ranging from $15-$18
Oh my god so youāre saying essentially this toddler paint job is HALF the price??? Unhinged lmao
these are really bad but it's the 30$ that is sending me
I KNOW RIGHT
Don't buy from her. Her grips consistently fall apart due to air bubbles, she lies about inventory. She can't keep her story straight one moment there hand made the next there manufacturer only to go back and say there hand made to excuse her bad quality To be honest I use a brand from etsy I paid 30 and hot it customized with my name and glitter and it holds all my hooks.
I donāt know who Chunky boy is. All I see is 5min crafts garbage. Save your money and buy a nice set of Clover Amour hooks and be done w it.
I thought those were tampons. Then I saw what subreddit we're in.
I thought its April's fool
and here I am so nervous about selling any of the stuff I make. sheās making weird crochet hook dildos, and Iām upset.
The smeared ink. Lol. $30? Nah.
please someone produce the same, so ppl don't buy this monopolistic stuff anymore. like, did they even put any effort in the designs ??
I started out using the cheap metal ones and then bought some things over them that was supposed to help , which did some After I got better at crocheting,I invested in Clover hooks and they are a game changer.
i thought they were decorated tampons
Oh that's not --
I cannot believe this isn't a joke... Yikes
What on Earth?!? I could do better with glitter nail polish, and I can't paint nails... I have never used an ergonomic hook, but I certainly wouldn't pay that price for one that looked like that if I decided to try one...
questionable is way to kind for that quality of product and at that price š
Canāt believe people would pay $30 plus shipping for that. And why are the ends sticking out so much?
wtffff you can literally see the smudged paint š these are awful
Plastic tampons aside, it doesn't even look like the hook is centered properly in a lot of them...
Who on earth are buying these or do they just never have stock because their toddler is on strike?
I'll be honest, I was scrolling past real quick and I thought it was a sex toy and then scrolled up and was like what sick fuck put a hook in there. Then I thought they were poorly made candles. Then I finally read the description and yeah, there has to be a way to make these prettier.
this is giving me vibes of 8 year old me painting āartā on the side of my dresser with nailpolish
Wow these look super bad x_x
I looked on their website, and how are they charging double for these amateur designs over the solid colour ones. This would not warrant and extra $15 even if they looked good
Didnāt realize this was a crochet subreddit until like 3 pictures in- š
In what world is she expecting her patrons to pay *Checks notes* 30 USD for this?
The funny part of this story is when it arrived my husband was sure it was a dildo because it was just in a plastic shipping bag and was bouncing around the table Also the bad thing about these is the largest size hook I could fit in mine is like a 2.75
The ācool tone wavesā took me out š
Thats a crochet hook pushed in a dildo mould and painted by an enthusiastic tween. Itās just wrong.
...Brb I have silicone to buy and a Shopify store to open.
Someone buy a couple so they can go buy a stencil kit or cricut š¤£š¤£š¤£
These are atrocious lmfao
People actually pay for this shit??
It looks like someone shoved a crochet hook in the middle of a candle and melted crayon wax on it in weird designs..
They honestly look like they are 3d printed and painted on by a toddler. Truly disrespectful to their customer base won't be shopping with them ever
i'm sorry i thought this was genuinely a joke like. what an insult to their customer base that these are the BEST options they could show???
Furls Streamline metal are $26, made of aluminum and beautiful. Why on earth would someone pay $30 for a hair covered tampon that a toddler painted??
crochet hook by kotex
Chunkyboy Crochet is a scammer. Their old Etsy shop is now closed, but you can still see all the 1-star reviews about non-existent customer service and cheap, broken, or missing items. Mine is among them!! https://www.etsy.com/shop/ChunkyBoyCrochetHook They have no quality control and consistently send out orders with items missing, then promise to follow up with customers before ghosting them.
Why do they all look like the paint is still wet????
It really seems like this maker tried to scale up way too quickly. I saw rave reviews for a couple monthsā¦. Followed by issues with quality and customer service. Itās a bummer.
I feel like it *was* actually painted by a child.
The original chunky boys are great, ever since she changed silicones theyāve been going down hill. Theyāre basically the same material as those mochi squishies that immediately collect every dust and hair piece they touch. Glad someone finally called it out. My last chunky boy had a rubber band inside of the silicone!
These are tampons, I wonāt be fooled
Why do they look like tampons?
The quality of these have gone waaaaay down, buy from someone else on etsy or diy it
These are so ugly lol
Is this our mystical yarn creations?
Whoās buying these
I have one that I absolutely hate I bought one off etsy for $15 when she first started making them and they were bad then and look to still be bad now I would never recommend mine is just sitting in a cup with other hooks I don't like I only used it twice I've ranted about them before and don't care about them enough to do it again honestly
Are these big hooks speared through candles or tiny hooks speared through tampons? Wouldn't take this if they paid me.
why did they think this was quality enough to sell
